S02.E10: Nightingale

Everyone said they were sorry for the cop that got killed, but no one even mentioned the nice old man whose only problem was helping Colter.

ETA: Or was that who the sheriff meant when she said they lost a good man?  Wouldn't mentioning his name (and Colter looking sorry) have been better? Or at least clearer?

Did Colter even acknowledge that the nice old man died? it was his fault

Good episode not great but definitely better than last week's episode.

It's nice to see Colter using his tracking skills, but why is everything so dark now? The stories are darker and the cool scenery is almost gone.

Bobby's cousin is awesome, I hope we'll see him again.

The grandma needed more scenes and I knew her grandson was innocent before anything even happened.

The gratuitous violence needs to stop, the old man really didn't need to die, and the bad guy died anyway so the sheriff's plans were a waste of time. Two executions in one episode. And how convenient for the plot that the entire incident was on camera lol

Chris Lee as Randy, Bobby Exley’s charismatic and charming cousin who comes to town to lend him a hand.

Charismatic AND charming? If you say so. I'm withholding judgment. I mean, he was ok, but I like Bobby better.

Tracker needs to stop killing innocent people every episode, it doesn't add anything to the story.

Who did he kill that was innocent?

I hated that Vic, the old man, was killed (though not by Colter). He was kind. I agree that his death was unneeded. I mean, he was hardly on screen, and suddenly he's killed. Weird writing.

I didn't like the grandma, or at least the actress. I think she was trying too hard to be a gruff granny. (I did like when Ben called her 'Granny' at the end.)

I immediately knew Ben would seem to be a bad guy but really wasn't. The setup -- with him watching the singer, being called creepy, a little odd -- was too obvious. We're not going to identify the bad guy in the very first scene.

I liked watching Colter explore the woods and find all the traps and clues. That was cool. And that death whistle? Creeeeee-pee. Seems like I saw that in another show.

I don't know the actor who played Ben, but he reminded me strongly of Vincent D'Onofrio.

Randy is fine, he’s helpful. But I hope Bobby is still in the show. Reenie is also MIA.

Nick Gomez as the bad guy. He was recently on SWAT and NCIS Origins.

Vic’s death is on Colter. He has Angie. Instead of keeping her close to him, he simply gives her to a guy he knows for like 5 minutes. Bad call, dude. Vic doesn’t deserve to die. 😢

“You two are quite similar, you know. Well, I know what Ben had to go through to make him that strong. Whatever happened to you, or whoever, they must’ve done something right.”

Both Colter and Ben are survivalists. Their main differences — how they view the world and Ben has a rich grandmother. They are two people with similar backgrounds who end up on different paths.

Why was Colter driving the singer's van when they were making an escape? I mean-- she gets right in the back seat?

And why not drive straight to granny's place? She has plenty of money for lawyers and protection and was surely trustworthy. Why put the singer in Vic's hands, and then kill Vic? I think this show enjoys the carnage and it really bothers me. And it's just stupid-- if you're talking about not trusting people, why go to the vulnerable stranger instead of the trusted relative with resources?

On a much less morally and strategically serious scale, but one which does seriously reduce my enjoyment, they are still shooting at night a lot, and this is cancelling out the scenery.

I feel like this used to be a brightly lit show with gorgeous scenery, where Our Hero did rescues in a righteous way-- hikers, horses, innocent victims of local corruption. He had a bit of a sulky personality, but he wasn't a bloodthristy, brutal idiot who put innocent people at risk, was fine with torture, and made stupid mistakes.

I did enjoy the tracking. I guess they still want to remind us why that's what they named the show.

What I didn't get was why her van was still there. Why wouldn't the sheriff have the van towed away?

I thought he was going to take the singer (name?) to the grandmother's. It does make more sense.

I don't know if the show 'enjoys' carnage, but I do think it's a deliberate decision to make the show darker (in both senses) to attract a certain demographic. The show did well in ratings last season, didn't it? But maybe males 18-24 (or whatever the range would be) didn't watch.

I wonder if the title -- Nightingale -- is a reference to the old song "A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square."

Aaron Stanford (the second-in-command biker)! I know that hair and slight shoulder hunch anywhere. Now I want to go watch 12 Monkeys again.

Otherwise the episode was, eh, fine I guess. When they were describing the suspect’s size and military background I was like, so Colter’s fighting Reacher now?

There’s a chance I may watch too much tv 😄
