S50.E13: SNL50: The Anniversary Special

Recommended Posts

Quote

The award-winning sketch show celebrates its groundbreaking 50th anniversary live from New York, featuring musical performances, former cast members, special guests, and all-time favorite sketches.

Airs 2/16/25

The channel guide, and SNL itself, counts this as an episode in season 50, so there obviously should be a thread about it.

I like that the ladies and gents are well-dressed, and so far I haven't seen any wacky outfits.

Sarah Sherman going full on Betty Boop is so in character for her.

I don't usually watch red carpet stuff, but I tuned in for this. I awwed at Bowen Yang talking about meeting Denny Dillon and Gail Matthius.

"894 hosts, and only two of them have committed murder."

Norm would've loved that joke.

Also loved the shot at the writers all outside in the rain.

Just now, Carey said:

If they're referring to Baldwin, that might be messed up, but if it's someone else...

It was Robert Blake. Alec Baldwin was involuntary manslaughter, if I remember.

I guess over the course of 50 years, it’s a good thing that there are only two possibilities. At least nobody’s been shot on 5th Avenue yet. Have they?

Alec Baldwin?

It was Ashlee Simpson.  What she did in Season 30 was "unforgivable" (though she may have earned a second chance the next year).  Fans to that point disappeared and the show was never the same

Depending on who you ask, there were 3 possibilities.  After half a century, Lorne still moves forward as if Era B...which included Charles Rocket...doesn't exist.

Although time has passed and Eddie has participated on the show in some form for over a decade, the guy probably is totally in the 5 or 10 timers club sans his pettiness and being too big for SNL.

Which he was to be fair, but so was Tom Hanks and a lot of other people

He had beef with Lorne, but he's been more active in the SNL community recently and that's a good thing.

Ha, a few season 50 highlights made the physical comedy reel, like Melissa McCarthy in the parking lot sketch, and Adam Sandler bleeding on Chris Rock.

It was so sweet they ended it with the Gilda and Steve Martin dancing sketch. And they had Cowbell, the Will Forte dancing coach, Love is A Dream, and the Blues Brothers!
