Season 13 Live Thread

Yorkie should have gone in the first week and should have gone this week.

So I once again expect shenanigans.

Then again even if the vote is true, I think Monster is tilting the results so much that it makes everyone else a t oss up. Like if there are 100 votes, Monster is likely getting like 90-92 of those votes, so the remaining 8-10 votes get split among Nessie (who likely got most of them) and then Yorkie and Muffin got what's left and likely only have a vote or two difference.

Nessie did a good show, which is impressive considering his costume; as I said last time, it's a costume you expect for a One and Done contestant, not someone looking to go to the finals. He is apparently a professional singer.

Monster is still knocking it out of the park, but he's also singing to his strengths too. Clearly a frontrunner for the full season.

I had expected Yorkie to go home today, and with how she was hamming it up with the audience, I think she was expecting it too. She was the weakest singer of the group, but I guess  they don't want a sausagefest for the Pool C finals.

Muffin I know of the group he's with, but I'm not a fan of that style of music so I had no idea who he was. I do get the feeling he was a little disappointed to be going home now, but I also think it was preplanned. And yeah, MC Hammer? That was a Ken-level guess.

I noticed it seems like they are nudging Robin out a bit. Each judge should only be skipping one, maybe 2 of the guesses (Since they do 3 judge guesses after each performance), but I think Robin only actually DID one guess last nite. Maybe it was just how things were edited but it did seem strange.

Anyways, looks like Monster is going to be in the finals, with Nessie and Yorkie doing the showdown, and Yorkie revealed next week. No real surprises there, unless they really decide to bring Yorkie onward. From seeing her costume last night, it does seem weaker than the other two, so I hope they don't do any more shenanigans.

So Gold Derby has changed their guess for Nessy and I have no idea who this is:

Edwin McCain

Now I want to go back and relisten to Nessy’s performances. Granted I only know two songs by this dude, but he was huge in the late ‘90s-early 2000s.

Song for anyone who wants to feel old with me because I somehow still remember all the lyrics :

They've also changed their guess for Mad Scientist Monster:

Brian Kelley

Another person I've never heard of before.

Edwin McCain had a big hit with a song named I'll Be. Have they done a One Hit Wonder theme night?

I’d consider him more of a Two-Hit Wonder because he did have another massive song, but One-Hit Wonder night would be fun.

I think we all know how tonight is going to go, but the theme has me puzzled. Maybe they’ll explain it better once the show starts, but Decades Night just seems like a free-for-all with song choice and nothing to tie any of the performances together 🤷‍♀️

They're totally forgetting that Pearl clue about wearing some of Dolly Parton's clothes on stage when they performed together. The Gold Derby guess has actually done that.

They’re very selective in what they remember from previous weeks and sometimes what they remember isn’t even relevant.

Damn, BoogieWoogie’s been hiding this voice!

I’m guessing we’re getting rid of one of the two they named already.

What is the Gold Derby?

I've watched every season and things have come and gone over the years.  Nick talked about the Golden Ear trophy and how Jenny is in the lead.  Didn't the trophy for whichever panellist got the most correct used to be called the Golden Mask?  I thought the Golden Ear was something they did for one or two seasons in which the panellists had to pre-guess at the start of each group based on one performance who it was.  Then the person with the most correct pre-guesses would win the Golden Ear.

Now it seems there is only a Golden Ear and no more Golden Mask.

@blackwing, the Golden Mask is the trophy the winner receives. The Golden Ear used to be about which judge had the most correct first impression guesses, of which Jenny won twice and Nicole once. Now it seems it has morphed into whichever judge has the most correct guesses overall.

Ah right, Golden Mask for the winner, Golden Ear for the panellists.  Since I'm convinced this show is rigged to a certain extent (there's no way that I buy that anyone with an ear would vote for the screeching and yelling of the Medusa over David Archuleta, for example) it seems kind of meaningless to have an award for the panellists.  It seems obvious that even if the panellists know who it is right away, they are told to pretend to not know.  And it always seems convenient that they are allowed to say a correct guess in the episode that the person will get unmasked.

Hard to believe that Robin could have been #1 on any chart.

The awful Blurred Lines was on top of Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks 😬

Coral sounds really off tonight.

No Robin, Shawn White is not a skater 🤦‍♀️

Edit : Ok, Nessy confirmed who we were speculating about upthread. I saw the video of his daughter talking about her teacher playing his video.

This wasn’t my favorite Boogie Woogie performance, but I don’t think he needs to worry about going home.

TPTB must be reading here. After our conversations about how Robin hadn’t been guessing much all season, he’s guessed for everyone so far tonight.

Since this seems to be a theme they like doing each season, I’d love in the future if a singer sang their own song just to hear what the judges would say.

Actually, he’s both. I believe he was a pro skater before his snowboarding career took off and I remember he was going to compete in the summer Olympics but didn’t because Covid happened.

I thought "Skater Boi" was a poor choice of song for Coral, she performed it Ok but it wasn't great.

I also thought Boogie Woogie was rough, I didn't like his performance at all.

I think Mad Scientist Monster is the best.  All of the remaining contestants are good but I wouldn't have sent Nessy home based on last night.  I would have sent home either Coral or Boogie Woogie.
