Season 13 Live Thread

I thought both Bat and Space Ranger were terrible and the song choices were terrible.  The Espresso song was boring and repetitive, seemingly just the same verse repeated over and over.  Bad Blood is a terrible song too, and his rendition was even worse, he was basically just speaking/singing.  I'm confused as to why the panel loved Space Ranger so much.

I too had no idea who Bat is, but I don't watch shows like that.

We’re seeing a lot of Boogie Woogie’s neck/chin in the clip where he’s seeing the costume for the first time. Bad editing or giveaway that he’s a one&done?

I noticed that right away as well; but as I watched closer, the neck area seemed to flex and look different from skin. I think he had a pale scarf/turtleneck on, and it wasn't his actual skin. It would be a blatant clue otherwise and they don't usually mess up like that.

Rest of my thoughts are in the episode thread. Space Ranger should probably have gone home, but I didn't see Bat lasting long either.

I'm surprised they had two right guesses in the same ep. I agree with the guesses for Boogie Woogie. From what I know of that actor, all the clues match very well; though I'd never realized he was that tall. Knew he was safe though.

Pearl was a bit weaker this week, partly due to song choice I think, but still one of the better ones of this pool.

Space Ranger was basically fully revealed. His song was a bit weaker, but it was obviously his night to go home. He obviously was having lots of fun here.

Griffon is pretty good and might make it through the finals. I think he and Boogie Woogie will do the battle royale, and either could make it.  But I figure Griffon will be revealed next week.

And yeah, boo on the producers for getting Ernie and not letting him say a word. At least BW was geeking out to be around him. (Well I guess he said 3 words maybe). As far as I can tell they didn't even have a VIP section for him to cut to, let alone letting him guest guess. Nor did he show up for the reveal final song to hang out. I wonder if he was just contracted for an appearance and bailed as fast as he could? I don't know how much he tends to lean on his ghostbuster stardom.

Agree completely.  I was moved by Boogie being star struck.  Unless Ernie was being humble and requested being low key, I thought there should have been more accolades. Stay Puff got more attention.....LOL!

Boogie Woogie's baseball clue is throwing me. I can't find any way that matches who Gold Derby said it is 2 weeks back. The musical family members do fit some IMDB info for that person, though.

One of the people you listed from Gold Derby sang the National Anthem. Not the person GD said it was, who is who I was thinking after last week.

Someone who is in the same ballpark with kids as Nick? Wow. :) That does make me think more that things are mostly rigged, since setting that up (with that many kids) can't be easy. Honestly, during his clue package, I had half expected them to show his actual family in costume too.

The results were basically what I expected, but man, I hate to see Griffon go; I love that costume. Possibly one of my favorites in the series to date.

Boogie Woogie had a weaker night overall; I think Country music isn't his forte. The baseball clue does throw me off a bit though, since I can't think of anything my main guess had with baseball (and his voice didn't seem to match the Music Meister)

Pearl blasted it out of the park, and as someone noted, she sounded just like Dolly at many points in the song. She's certainly going to go far in the finals, perhaps final 3 or final 2 I think.

The "doctor" clue had Jenny (and me) thinking NPH last week. But if it does turn out to be this other guy, it sort of fits because

Spoiler

Kelsey Grammer is his 3rd cousin according to the IMDB. Andy was probably a kid when Kelsey got famous for playing Frasier Crane.

I'd never heard of this guy before this show.

I hadn't either.  Wonder if he and Kelsey are the only ones who got the musical/acting genes.  They're both really good singers.

It's seeming to be a better overall cross section of performers I've at least heard of this season.

Chat, remember on night 1 when I predicted I’d know at least 3 contestants this season? I’m happy to say it happened last week and we hadn’t even met everyone yet. Being on Group C!

Edit : Are we seeing the bottom of Yorkie’s face while she’s looking at the costume?  I see a white shirt, but it also seems like they’re showing glimpses of her jaw/chin.

Did I miss why Robin isn't guessing? Or am I missing his guesses?

Probably trying to save time by not having him guess every time. He guessed for a couple but the other 3 are just so quick to start talking.

Damn, haven’t heard this song in forever. Rob Thomas would be a fun contestant in the future.

I'm a bit surprised Cherry Blossom went home first. Listening to all 5, I thought she would be final 3 for sure.

Yorkie I felt was the weakest of the bunch, but Stud Muffin felt weak too, and I felt either could go home first.

All 5 were good singers though; no cring-worthy singers as others noticed.

Nessie I felt was quite good and was the first I felt was a safe Final 3. Cherry blossom also felt safe to me.

And Monster, damn, they didn't even bother hiding him. I have no idea who  he actually is, but he is certainly a professional country singer. I suspect they feel they can't hide his singing twang, but couldn't they have picked a more theme appropriate song? (granted Nessie's Roxanne isn't really theme appropriate either)

Monster is clearly the Pool C winner and possibly the Season winner.

I'm thinking Nessie will also be a Pool C finalist at this point, which is a bit surprising; their costume seems unwieldy and feels more like a costume for a 1-2 ep contestant, not someone running for the end.

Since my initial impressions were blown out of the water, I'm expecting Yorkie to go next week and Nessie and Stud Muffin singing in the Pool C showdown.

Did like seeing Cherry Blossom bonding with Robin a bit with their shared sitcom related history. I wish she could have done another round or two so they could tease that a bit more, and it would have given us more time to chew over who her related masked singer was. (I don't think many have died, so it would have been a short list to get to Bob)

As for guessing, I've noticed they always seem to have 3 out of 4 doing a guess after each singer. They're usually good about rotating so no judge isn't left out most of the time.

According to Google, other than Bob, there have been 4 other deaths - Jerry Springer, Kirstie Alley, Leslie Jordan, and George Foreman. All the sitcom talk originally had me thinking Kirstie.

I missed the first half of the show, but Mad Scientist Monster gave me major Tim McGraw vibes.  (I hadn't seen any spoilers before watching.)  Regardless, he was exceptional!

I didn't have any ideas about Nessy or Cherry Blossom's identities while watching live.  Nessy's performance was really good.  After CB/Candace's performance, though, I was thinking that she could make it as a singer, contrary to her low self-opinion.  I was shocked she was voted off.  I'm going to stream the whole program to see the ones I missed.
