Shannon L. February 11 Share February 11 (edited) Imo, this is such an underrated movie. You rarely hear experts mention it when talking about Disney films. These days, it has a bit of a cult following. My kids, one who was too young to see it when it first came out, and the other who wasn't even born yet, love it. My husband and I list it as one of our favorite Disney movies. The making of it is a really interesting story and it's honestly surprising that it was ever made in the first place. We watched it again the other day and there are a few jokes that probably wouldn't make it in a movie today, but overall, it holds up really well. Edited: The link I posted wasn't working and I can't figure out why, so I removed it. If you are interested, just google "oral history of The Emperor's New Groove" and the Vulture article should come up. Spartan Girl February 12 Share February 12 Oh how I adore this movie! It remains one of the funniest Disney has ever made, and so very quotable! “Yeah, I’ve been turned into a cow, can I go home?” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Sometimes I wonder if, had things been different, Chris Farley would have been cast, since he played such a good foil to David Spade. No matter, John Goodman had the right amount of paternal warmth as Pacha. Love Eartha Kitt’s Yzma! And who doesn’t love Kronk, the king of all himbos? 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8578250
Trini February 12 Share February 12 Yep, this is an underrated gem! Voice cast is amazing; it's worth a watch if you're a fan of any of one of them. Also, I'm now realizing that everyone ignores Kuzco whenever they talk about Disney princes! We gotta correct that somehow... 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8578279
Sarah 103 February 12 Share February 12 When I first saw the movie as a kid, I did not like it. When I saw it again as an adult, I throughly enjoyed it. I think the sarcasm didn't appeal to me as a kid, but I appreciated it significantly more as an adult. It is absolutely an underrated Disney movie. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8578722

That's a pretty crucial conjunction", but you can't work that into normal conversations. lol I agree that John Goodman had the right level of paternal warmth and Kronk? Omg....when he does his own theme music? His horrified reaction when Yzma pops up in bed with cucumber slices on her eyes? 🤣 18 hours ago, Trini said: Yep, this is an underrated gem! The casting was great, but I think Patrick Warburton was exactly what they needed to push it into perfection. 1 hour ago, Sarah 103 said: When I first saw the movie as a kid, I did not like it. It's one of the lines that I'm pretty sure wouldn't make it into a Disney movie these days. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8578794

And my sister and I often like to quote, "You threw off my groove!" :D. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8578988
FilmTVGeek80 February 13 Share February 13 I was a huge David Spade fan then, mainly because his sarcastic humor is right in my wheelhouse, and I adore it. So, as soon as the trailer came out and he was in it, I knew I would love it before I even saw it - and I did. It's not perfect, but it is one of the most genuinely hilarious - instead of just occasionally funny - animated Disney movies. 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8579025

He was the big reason I wanted to see this movie in the theater back in the day, too :D. Loved "Just Shoot Me" as a teenager and my family can quote Tommy Boy like nobody's business, so finding out he was involved in this just added to my interest in the movie. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8579043
andromeda331 February 13 Share February 13 I love that movie. It's so funny and so quotable. I also love how it pokes fun at its self like Pacha and Kuzco wondering how Kronk and Yzma beat them to the secret lab and Kronk pulls down a map and admits it doesn't make any sense. Or that Yzma tells Kronk she practical raised Kuzco "You'd think he'd turned out better." I love Yzma. She's a great villian. Terrible and hilarious at the same time. After being fired she's taking out her anger on a bunch of Kuzco statues. Agreeing to dessert before Kronk takes Kuzco out and finish the job. Kronk talking to squrriels, checking off bird he saw, and cooks. His angel and demon on his shoulders are just as dumb as he is. Maybe even more since he wonders what standing on one hand has to do with anything. But Angel Kronk agrees with Demon Kronk. All three of them pissed when Yzma says she never liked his spinach puffs. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8579736

Morrigan2575 February 13 Share February 13 I love this movie I never understood why it wasn't as popular as others, I think it's great. Maybe because it wasn't a musical? The humor/sarcasm may behave been too much for kids but as an adult I thought it was hilarious. 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8580127

I feel the same way about the Road to El Dorado. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8580506
Shannon L. February 14 Author Share February 14 According to the article I read, they couldn't figure out how to market it, which doesn't make sense to me, but it was a really different kind of cartoon for Disney at the time. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8580912
Spartan Girl February 14 Share February 14 My favorite “adult” joke had to be when Kuzco and Pacha scream in pure terror as Yuma pulls up her dress…then immediately sigh in relief when she only reveals the knife strapped to her leg. And yes, I was old enough to get it. 1 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8580958

Only in this movie would they be happy to see the villain had a knife. 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151847-the-emperors-new-groove-2000/#findComment-8581418
