This is more like it. The kind of show this show should be but never seems to ever get there.

You know...the kind of show where the characters drive the plot. The characters organically behave how they should. No one's forcing square pegs into round holes.

This episode...finally...let the characters do the work and do their own version of heavy lifting.

Let me tell you...when they do that, the results are beautiful.

Sure, this episode isn't without its faults. The baby subplot seemed to be just kind of "there" without any real dramatic tension. Natalie Farrow did her best sell job to depict a broken mother but we never really got to know why she abandoned the baby in the first place.

Then there were a few eye rolling moments from Vince and Manny that seemed to give them more needless trouble and created some awkward tension...

...but...

Can you really say either of them acted out of character?

Plus Jeff Fahey's sell job of going through Walter's pain at the end of the episode really put things in perspective.

This episode could have been a real train wreck under the wrong hands and the wrong guidance, but, for once, the show got the formula right and produced something that showed what it's truly capable of whenever they get things right.

They just need to learn how to repeat this kind of success again.

I liked it, too.

And it helped that nobody was extra whiney, not even Bode or Gabriella.

No fire, though, which is kind of hilarious. Is this the first episode without one? Maybe they took the special effects budget and repurposed it to hire writers.

I was fine with the baby plot. They used it to highlight the safe surrender program, and they used it to reveal some of the backstory for James.

I thought the pruno plot for the 3 Rockers was completely unoriginal, but I'm letting it go because they didn't piss me off as much as usual, over all.

Maybe it's because I'm not a bro, but I don't see how Jake sleeping with Gabby when she and Bode were broken up was such a no no.  Did Jake need to ask permission first?  Also, why Bode was having difficulty accepting Jake's "apology.,  as if Bode and Gabby were still together.

And let's not forget that Bode slept with Gabby after she broke up with Jake.

ETA: Danielg342, have you EVER give this show such a high grade?  (Not that it wasn't deserved.)

I'll be that guy and point out those flaws.  Never, ever position yourself below a vehicle on a slope.  Nobody is that strong, and the cardinal rule of any rescue is don't make yourself a victim too.

Sharon should have called the Sheriff Department the moment they received the infant.  I get it, they were all women cooing over a baby, but get that problem off your back.  What would happen the station had received a call in the middle of all that?  Don't answer that, I already know.  They would load babykins in the engine and take it with them.

I'm not sure...I don't believe I ever have. I don't keep a record of it so I won't say "this is the first time Fire Country has earned an A" but I don't recall ever giving it such a high grade.

I kind of wrestled with whether or not this episode deserved it...I'm not sure I'd put this among "TV's greatest episodes ever".

However, when I determined "this is the kind of episode that FC should be making", I figured it deserved the high grade. I couldn't call it a "standard bearer episode" and not grade it as such.

I’m with you. Who cares if they screwed? Why is it any of Bode’s business? As has been mentioned countless times, they were not together when Jake slept with her.  At least Jake brought up that he let it go when Bode got together with Gabriella after she and Jake broke up.

Break-ups don’t magically wipe away feelings.  Bode  broke up with Gabriella because she can’t make  her mind up about him two days in a row.  He still loves her.   So I understand this was hard to hear.   But Gabriella had as much a part  in this as Jake did.  It’s further proof that Bode needs to stay away from her.     And all of them need to watch their drinking with co-workers.   Soon Bode and James will have their own drunken evening.

i understand why Vince is in denial.. but Luke has been the one taking care of Dad.  Why did Luke ask Vince if all that was wrong with Dad was his hip?  Shouldn’t that have been the other way around?
