SunnyBeBe November 7 Share November 7 Can someone tell me the name of the character or actor who played the female detectives’ supervisor, who was leaning hard on them to make an arrest? At the end, he placed Burgess back in intelligence. I’m not a regular viewer and missed parts of this episode. I think I might start watching. I do watch Med already. Link to comment
Guildford November 7 Share November 7 Hmmm.... I remember an interview with Gwen a while back that said someone becoming detective wasn't a very compelling story and I guess she was right. This wasn't in ballpark of the rest of this seasons episodes for tension, storytelling and action, and seemed to meander through most of it. It was jarring to see them lean heavily on... 'this is the strict procedure that's followed every single time'.... when those who've watched the show for the past 11 season know they rarely do things that way. And as for never leaving your partner on a pursuit.... umm have they watched this show before? It was a little too anvilly. I was half expecting to find out that the detective that hit on the Suarez while pregnant & doing her ride along turned out to be the Chief... it felt that contrived, so thankfully it didn't go there. Suarez needs to quit, she's going to get someone killed with her paranoia & attitude. She's jaded & danger to anyone who has the misfortune of being lumbered with her misery. I still don't know the point of her telling Kim every 10 seconds that Reid was checking up on them and wanted results. It didn't feel like it was because she wanted to see how Kim responded under that pressure & more about her own issues. However despite that... YAY for Burgess, I am happy for her, and I loved how she stood up for herself when she could've just done it the way the Sureaz wanted to do it. I did also love the shade that Kim was not going to compromise her morals to have something over her to get the promotion. We all know that the previous blondie barbie got hers under very 'dubious' circumstances. On the balance, really happy for Burgess, it's great to have a new detective, it was great to actually get some Burzek scenes after having none all season.... but the episode overall won't be one I'll be rushing to re-watch. The case was weak and the characters were just meh. Link to comment
mommalib November 7 Share November 7 This wasn't one of the best episodes in a season that has produced some good episodes. And Burgess is okay but I thought Atwater would be/should be the one to make detective. 3 Link to comment

For this episode I though both Kevin & Trudy should've been in it, rather than blink & you'd miss Kiana, & Torres... but I guess they needed the later to set up the next episode with him banging hi CI. 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy November 7 Author Share November 7 This isn’t a compelling episode but it’s better than the Kevin centric one (E03). The connection between plots is done flawlessly — how Kim’s ride-along case is related to Torres’ previous UC work and the emergence of “Zibata”. Congratulations Kim on making the detective and also being assigned back to the “unicorn unit”. The promotion is part of political bargaining chip. Deputy Chief Reid is definitely up to something. Detective Suarez points out that Kim’s instincts are still very much of a patrol officer. This episode does explore the differences between Officer Burgess and Detective Burgess. It will be interesting to see the new Voight/Burgess dynamic. I hope the writers won’t repeat the father-daughter trope for them. It’s totally overused with Erin and Hailey. Among the OG trio, I really want Kevin to be the first one to make a detective. 😣 Quote “There was an opening on my team. I felt like it was my time, and I’d earned a shot. And honestly, nobody else was interested.” Are we supposed to believe that Kevin and Adam are not interested in the promotion? This is just the writers’ BS. 🙄 Am not looking forward to next week’s episode. Why do they have to bring that randy Gloria back? It was one of the weakest episode in S11 that tainted Torres’ character. UGH. 😏 PS: Elizabeth Rodriguez reminds me of East New York. I miss that show. 1 Link to comment

Guildford November 7 Share November 7 (edited) I think Marina explained it in an interview.... It's a lot of work & study & Kim & Adam couldn't do it both at the same time and Atwater is all caught up in his housing project that's keeping him occupied. That makes more sense than the throw away 'nobody was interested' line in the show. I was just happy that they showed it was a lot of work... and you don't just get it sleeping with your boss. FnkyChkn34 November 8 Share November 8 I'm glad that I wasn't the only one bored with this episode. Kim is fine as a detective, and it solved a problem that they may have needed to solve - their unit had no detectives after Jay and Haley left (other than Voight and Trudy, who is never allowed to join in that role). But I agree that I would have liked to see Kevin. I think he has more seniority than Kim, too? I don't know that Adam has been shown to be the greatest test taker, but he was being groomed by Olinsky from Day 1 out of the academy to be a detective, so he would have made more sense too. They probably just should have replaced Olinsky and Antonio years ago with experienced detectives from a different unit and there would have been continuity. Link to comment

I haven't watched for years but picked up the last few episodes. Even when "together" in the same building the same scenario of partners being so far apart that no support came when they got into extended fights played out at least 3 times. Link to comment
