So, this is supposed to be set in 1991. I worked in a federal forensic lab from 1984-2003. I'm going to have to pay more attention, but it seemed to me there was technology available in 1991 that this show isn't portraying.

Go with the theme of the NCIS pilot episode. They're not the FBI so they don't get the new stuff

A compelling episode.

This show has finally given me a reason to like young Mike Franks, a little bit. His love and attention to Gary Callahan is heartwarming.

I still find Lala Dominguez unlikeable and uninspiring though.

The “Greatest Love of All” scene between Gibbs and Mildred makes me cry. 😢 That little actress can act.

What is it with the CBS federal agent shows over playing their role , where were the Sheriff's homicide investigators? I get that they called in the NIS because of the missing Marine dependent but the murder was a state crime.

Is that lab supposed to be NIS? I think it was in the pilot or would work more real as being part of the county like in NCIS: New Orleans. How many shootings could he see at Camp Pendleton and perhaps the rest of the Southern California naval installations to remember a specific gun? While I was at Fort Riley there was one murder, and that was with a bow and arrow that was hidden as a hunting accident.

With Gibbs sneaking in the back way it never occurred to him that anyone could do the same to defeat the car parked out front. Of course the next police agency to have a protectee will do the same come the next TV show.

Name dropping an all but dead store, Kmart for the toy, nicely played.

That was adorable. She was great.

I don't like her or Franks. I like Austin as Gibbs; and as much as I love Mark Harmon his narration sucks.  It's so melodramatic!

I really like Lala. And Austin is loosening up ever so slightly--the way he froze when the woman (I can't keep the characters' names straight yet) asked him if wanted to give the toy to the girl, and shook his head ever so slightly...powerful stuff.
