This is my first time visiting this topic because I started late and was always at least 3 episodes behind. I hope there are a lot of others like me, because the dwindling comment count on the episode threads is disheartening.

I thought this was a really fun detective caper.  Sure, there were some plot holes and logical lapses, but so what. IMO, to dissect a show like this is to miss the whole point. It's not a procedural, it's just a laid back good time that puts  a priority on ambiance, charm and dark humor. The kind of show I love.

I haven't read the book this show was based on, but I used to be a really big fan of the Fletch series (although not the movie adaptations), and Vince Vaughan's character also reminded me of Fletch. I have never been a VV fan, always found his persona to be more cocky than charming, but this show may force me to reconsider. I thought he did a great job.

The casting was excellent throughout, I thought. I like Rob Delaney, and watching him literally fall apart before our eyes was so dark. Michelle Monaghan is also great, but I'll admit Bonnie was kind of pointless. Generally can't stand Zach Braff (although he was fine here), but not surprised to see him. I was surprised that Christa Miller never made an appearance. Bonus points for a cute monkey and a dog that looks like a priss but is a bloodthirsty vulture at heart.

Wasn't expecting so much death in the final chapter, but I guess it cleans the slate for another season. And I really hope there is one. Whether it follows another Hiaasen book or not, I think there are plenty of stories that could be told with the core characters.

I agree with everything you said. Some people felt this was dragged out, but I enjoyed it all. Vince Vaughn found his perfect character. I also agree Bonnie's plot was stupid and pointless. If there is a season two, I wouldn't be sorry to not see her again.

I am glad Nick and Eve got what was due to them, but Gracie's punishment  seemed harsh. I am not sure what her character was supposed to be. She was bad, she was a grifter, she stole, didn't believe in the magic until she did and then was killed off. Her story seemed almost as pointless as Bonnie at the end. Maybe if Egg had changed because of her, but he just kept working for those horrible people until the end.

Yancy and Rosa's story felt right. I am glad no hard feelings but they were not a perfect match.

Glad Neville ended up with Dawnie, Griggs and the watch.

Rosa's sister and the needy pilot who loves conch fritters! 🤣

But I think my favorite part of this episode (aside from seeing Eve plummet to her death - how deserving) was the mobster and Madeline buying the burned out shell of the horrid house next to Yancy's.

"I think they are fucking"

"I don't want to make it awkward. They are better than the last neighbor". 😂

I'm going to miss these characters. I hope it gets a second season!

Yancy at the end saying he's going to let things go, not get involved, lasted about 15 seconds before he wanted to see what Ro had in his car.

So that may be a good sign for VV coming back.  The narrator also said see you next year, if he's still the narrator.

Eve barely knew how to steer or start the boat.  She's going to navigate herself to another island and then Europe?

I guess possibly in a future season, if the show is renewed, they could have Yancy and Eve cross paths again.  But they did decide to wrap things up.

In the reviews, there were some raves about the performance of the actress playing Gracie.  But she seemed like an extraneous character.  She was going to stop Eve but ends up getting killed.  We at least the young girl will inherit her powers and become the new Dragon Queen.

Are dragons really a part of Caribbean culture and mythology?  Dragon Queen is more associated with Chinese culture, I thought.

If there is  a second or more seasons, it would be nice if they tightened the scripts and make it 8 episodes instead.

OTOH, I recall Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan saying that it probably cost a fortune to shoot on location in the Keys, so maybe they decided if they're going to spend that much, they have to get a couple more episodes out of the season.

I had heard that the Yancy character is featured in just one or two of the many books written by the author.  It will be interesting to see how they would use Yancy again.

How much serious crime is going on around the Keys, which Yancy seems to love?  Maybe they would have him spending a lot of time in Miami or other parts of Southern Florida.

Yes she got away with everything. I half expected her to end up having a relationship with the detective that brought her to the prison. Honestly her character could have been left out as she was just a distraction to me.

I loved every minute of this show and hated to see it end.  I could have happily watched another 25 episodes of it.  A solid 10/10 from me.  It was the perfect vehicle to get Vince Vaughn back on my screen and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I guess Bonnie's whole point was to get rid of the monstrosity next door to Yancy.  So, not completely pointless, but she had a lot of screen time considering.

I really liked the actress playing Eve. Liked her a lot in Search Party, too, and was glad to see her again. I could look up her name but that would be cheating. My only problem with Eve was how she died. Pretty "deus ex machina" if you ask me. Would have been more satisfying to see her story end less randomly.

The actor playing Nick really sold having a fishing pole impaled in your spine. To paraphrase a former president, I felt his pain. Good job from him through the whole season.

Character with highest ratio of how much I liked him compared to how much screen time he got: Ro. But looks like he'll have more next season. (If there is one.)
