Episode 8 was easily my least favorite.  The whole Edward and the Ethians plot was rushed.  Jane making her way through the crowd unscathed is ridiculous (even for this show), as is her standing on a bonfire trying to cut Guilford's ropes, then doing a Wonder Woman worthy leap to the horse's back.

It felt more like the writers thought they had 10 episodes, but someone said "10? No... we said 8.  Wrap it up.  Now."  The little flash forwards also weren't that great or revelatory.  Again, it seemed more like a cheap way of saying oops, we ran out of time.  Here's where we would have gone if they gave us more episodes.

Which is a shame, because I liked this series.  It was fun summer fluff and it was a fun twist on history.

When I first heard about this series, I was excited because finally we were going to ditch Henry VIII and focus on a period of Tudor rule that happened before Elizabeth I arrived on the throne. As much as I love the Tudor period, I am tired of the entertainment business thing that Hal and Bess are the only Tudor's worth having their story told. So, I was pumped for this.

And then, I did some research on the books they were based on, and my excitement turned to disappointment as honestly it sounded like utter crap. And I was thinking I've waited so long for some Lady Jane stuff, and this is what I'm getting?

So, when I tuned it to the first episode, it was with a lot of trepidation. But you know what, I'm glad I did. I loved this series. It was very much Jane's story told through the lens of A Knight's Tale and it worked brilliantly. I think have the omnipresent (?) helped a lot with setting the right tone. I loved that straight up they told us they weren't sticking to the history we knew. But I loved how the broad strokes of Jane's story were kept. Even the fantastical elements made sense, and I liked how the Ethians were used as an allegory for the Protestantism aspect of Jane's story.

I have been recommending this series to everyone that asks me if I have watched anything worth watching. It's a great fun series and I hope it gets a season 2.

Count me in as another person who didn't have high expectations for the show but ended up loving it. The crackling chemistry between the leads is so much fun to watch and I was fully on board with them and the way their relationship developed. I was surprised they got married in the first episode, but appreciate that didn't get dragged out. The wedding is one of my favorite scenes: when they first see each other and aren't sure how to react, Jane going through with her plan to sabotage it, and Guildford quickly seeing through her act. Also, the way her little sister throws flowers down the aisle is hilarious.

I was surprised to see Dominic Cooper in this in a supporting role considering he's a pretty big name, but he seemed to be relishing it. I also didn't realize that Emily Bader is American. I'm no expert, but her accent sounded convincing and consistent to me.

I agree with others that the ending felt rushed. Since the book this is based on is a standalone, I didn't expect the show to leave so much unresolved. I hope this does get another season, but sadly it doesn't seem to be getting much buzz.
