I'm kind of surprised by how much I'm looking forward to seeing this after watching the official trailer. It appears that TPTB* let DD grow up: clean hair kept mostly off his face, a whole new wardrobe (bye-bye wings), better diction. (Personally I think they're passing up a great new tagline for the show: Better Diction Daryl Dixon.)

I'm not sure I heard correctly, but it sounded to me as if Daryl will be shepherding young Laurent somewhere because he (Laurent) is the key to humanity's survival. Which sounds a lot like The Last of Us, but I could be way off with my take on the premise. Anyway, I will be firmly planted in my seat for this one.

*Since one of TPTB is Norman Reedus as an executive producer of the show, I'm guessing that he had a lot to do with the new fashion direction of Mr Dixon.

As executive producer Greg Nicotero observes, “Dixon takes us back to the beginning of what the DNA of The Walking Dead started as, which is a man on a mission.”

But that mission will be fraught. He faces a scary new type of walker, called burners.

“These zombies have mutated to a point where if they touch or bite you or their blood gets on you, it burns you significantly,” Nicotero says. “It changes all the rules.” And will have you screaming as you watch.

Acidic blood 🤔 well that should be a hoot, what about the Face Huggers?

Norman Reedus says 'we're making art' with The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon

"I feel like we're not cranking it out for numbers on a Sunday night".

Ouch......what numbers would that be? the million an episode 🤔

 "We're making art, and there's moving dialogue," Reeds  says. "It's a different animal and it's beautiful, it's touching, and it's sort of amazing to look at and listen to and watch and feel."

Of course it is Norm..... we believe you......no honestly 🙄

Are The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Last of Us the same show?

Daryl Dixon executive producer Greg Nicotero breaks down the similarities and differences between the two zombie series.

The mission of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is simple. Our adult hero is asked to escort a child seen as the savior of humanity on a perilous trek across the zombie-infested countryside while also dealing with threats of the more human variety. Sound familiar? It also looked familiar to Daryl Dixonexecutive producer Greg Nicotero. "I remember watching the first episode of The Last of Us and going, 'Ummm… guys?'" Nicotero tells EW.

Of course, at that point there wasn't a whole lot to be done about the mirror-like qualities. "We were already deep into production when The Last Of Uscame out," Nicotero notes of the video game adaptation, while also adding that "I enjoyed The Last of Us tremendously."

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Sets Early Fan Screenings in Theaters

Before Norman Reedus washes ashore in France in his new Walking Dead spin-off, AMC Networks is bringing Daryl Dixon to four U.S. cities. The network announced Thursday that a series of multi-city fan screenings of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will take place ahead of the show's September 10th series premiere on AMC and AMC+. In partnership with BeyondFest, Alamo Drafthouse and Rooftop Films, AMC will screen the first two episodes back-to-back during a special event preview on Tuesday, September 5th, and Wednesday, September 6th, in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Austin.

The Daryl Dixon fan screenings are free to attend with RSVP, but seating is first come, first served. See the ticketing information and details below, and visit the websites to RSVP or book your seats:

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Sweepstakes

AMC also announced The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon's French Tour Sweepstakes, where five lucky winners and their guests will follow in the footsteps of Daryl Dixon with an exclusive tour of France curated by the legendary Condé Nast Traveler. Fans can enter now through September 10th for free on the official website. AMC notes that the sweepstakes is open only to legal residents of the U.S. 21 years of age or older, and grand prize winners must have a valid U.S. passport and be able to travel from October 19th-October 22nd, 2023.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon follows Daryl's (Reedus) journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home after he washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. As he makes the journey, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan. The series stars Reedus, Clémence Poésy, Adam Nagaitis, Anne Charrier, Eriq Ebouaney, Laika Blanc Francard, Romain Levi and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi and is executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, Showrunner David Zabel, Reedus, Greg Nicotero, Angela Kang, Brian Bockrath, Daniel Percival and Jason Richman.

Yeah, as usual the being a resident of the US BS applies to these competitions, anyone would think I had a problem with being classed as a second class citizen, come on AMC get your act together FFS, its 2023 🥺

It pisses me off that they aren't releasing them early on AMC+. Absolutely the worst of the streaming services.

I was wondering about that, I thought my memory might be failing me. So why would people bother paying for + when they can get it through regular AMC at the same time? seems like a bit of an own goal. Unfortunately AMC+ still seems to be the only way to watch it in the UK so ill have to put up with watching it at the same time as the riffraff 😭  'Joke'

AMC Sundays are for back-to-back Norman Reedus. On Thursday, AMC Networks announced that this Sunday, September 10th, is "A Night With Norman" (Une Nuit Avec Norman) on AMC and AMC+, featuring the series premiere of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — Reedus' new Walking Dead spin-off set in France — followed by the season 6 premiere of Ride With Norman Reedus (with guest Keanu Reeves). AMC also announced that the "L'âme Perdue" series premiere of Daryl Dixon will launch across all five of its linear networks (BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, We tv, and AMC and AMC+) as part of its multi-network premiere event at 9:00 PM ET/PT.

New episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon premiere Sundays on AMC and AMC+ (episodes are available at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT on AMC+ ahead of the 9 p.m. premiere on AMC). AMC+ subscribers will have exclusive access to TWD Daryl Dixon: Cast Diaries, what AMC calls "bonus episodes" that will stream each Thursday on AMC+ following the Sunday premieres.

Following Sunday's series premiere of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, series executive producer Greg Nicotero will appear on a special episode of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs to discuss all the insider details of the European apocalypse. The episode airs on AMC, AMC+ TV and Shudder TV on Friday, September 15th at 9:00 p.m. ET, and will be available for on-demand viewing on Shudder and AMC+starting Friday, September 22nd.

Ok, so we AMC+ mugs do get a SLIGHT advantage over the Hoi Polloi and access to so called "bonus episodes" I've no idea what the last drive in entails.

Let's see if it justifies the extra expense and who's sober enough to watch at three am on a Sunday morning 🤢 they could have shown it on a Saturday night FFS 😱

AMC can SMD!!

Thank you, I've been saving that. I'm pretty annoyed that they're not releasing them on Thursday like every other show they do. I'm totally not watching that "bonus" show, so my AMC+ subscription is basically a waste of $$.

On a similar note, what ever happened to "Talking Dead?" It just quietly went off into the night.

AMC+ Changes The Walking Dead Early Access Schedule

AMC+ has clarified the day and time new episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and Fear the Walking Dead will premiere on the streaming service this fall. The network made episodes of the eleventh and final season of The Walking Dead available to stream early for AMC+ subscribers, with episodes dropping one week ahead of their linear airing on the AMC channel (with the exception of the simulcast series finale). Early access shifted from seven days to three for Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: Dead City as new episodes became available on AMC+ on Thursdays, followed by their cable premieres Sunday nights on AMC.

AMC+ customers will continue to access episodes of Daryl Dixon and Fear early — but now on Sundays instead of Thursdays. On Twitter/X, AMC+ support confirmed that new episodes of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (starting September 10th) and Fear the Walking Dead (starting October 22nd) will premiere at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT Sundays on AMC+ and 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on AMC.

The streamer also confirmed that all six episodes of Daryl Dixon — not just Sunday's series premiere — will be available on AMC+ after 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT on Sundays, as will the final six episodes of Fear the Walking Dead season 8 in October.

AMC previously stated that Daryl Dixon early access would begin Thursday, September 7th, but that changed in recent days when the official episode schedule confirmed that episodes would premiere Sundays on both AMC and AMC+. According to AMC, subscribers will have exclusive access to TWD Daryl Dixon: Cast Diaries, "bonus episodes" that will stream each Thursday on AMC+ following the Sunday premieres. (The first Daryl Dixon: Cast Diaries episode will be available on-demand this Thursday, September 14th, following the September 10th premiere.)

Viewers can tune in this Sunday for AMC's "A Night With Norman" (Une Nuit Avec Norman), a Norman Reedus doubleheader featuring back-to-back premieres of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and Ride With Norman Reedus.

Looking at the comments it seems as though this has not gone down well with many, surely a lot of plus members will be cancelling and maybe this might make them think again. What a strange time to choose though, 3am ffs, do they seriously expect families to be setting the alarm so they can watch the show together? Most will just record it and watch later, probably about 9pm 😂😂

I honestly believe AMC will change their minds about this, it's just a nonsense as it is, hopefully if nothing else the loss of revenue and continual abuse will get things back to a sensible state of affairs 🙏

Yeah, I'll be sleeping in on Sundays.

And who in their right mind wouldn't be? I haven't even worked out what time that would be in the UK, but whatever it is, unless it involved Maggie being soaked to the skin in a revealing costume, ill take the extra few hours of dreamy sleep thank you.

I still haven't taken advantage of my free access to the world of Fear, I really should get my money's worth and catch up on that masterpiece of televisual horror......... I promise i'll give it a go....

For those with TiVO, it's not picking up this series with my regular Walking Dead Season Pass. I had to create one for this series. I got a little complacent because the previews were being recorded with my TWD season pass, but the actual series fell under the radar.

My PVR recorded something Friday night.  It's ~3 hours long, says originally aired Sept 15 and it's called "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs".  I'm not seeing anything about this here or in any schedule/list of episodes.  Can anyone enlighten me?

Spoilers for Episode 102. Interesting interviews about the makings of specific scenes and what their vision is for this show vs the larger franchise. Reedus said in some interview I read recently in his new role as a producer for this series that they're "making art" and at the time I dismissed it as more of him characterizing himself an artiste along with his known extracurriculars of photography and painting. But now having seen a couple of episodes, I can kind of see it. There's definitely an ambitious cinematic quality to this show that we haven't seen in the rest of the franchise or even the more recent Dead City.

Norman Reedus Demanded 1 Thing for Daryl Dixon Spin-off Show
By Klein Felt   September 18, 2023
https://thedirect.com/article/daryl-dixon-norman-reedus-spin-off-show

Quote

Speaking in the latest issue of SFX magazine, Daryl Dixon executive producer Greg Nicotero revealed his involvement was the one thing Reedus insisted on heading into the series.
*  *  *
“Norman really rolled up his sleeves as a producer. He had very, very specific input on everything, including that he loved David Zabel. Norman wanted to collaborate with him, and he and I really felt that it was important to have a showrunner who was outside of 'The Walking Dead' universe.”

This ultimately led to David Zabel being brought in to showrun with Nicotero serving as executive producer on the six-episode spin-off.
*  *  *
“Initially, both Norman and I had a gut reaction like: ‘Ooh, that doesn’t feel like 'The Walking Dead.' And then after about 20 seconds, it was like: ‘Wait a minute, that’s what we want!’”

After directing several episodes of the mainline The Walking Dead television series, including the series finale, Nicotero wasn't brought into the fold on the Daryl-focused spin-off until about two months into pre-production.
*  *  *
“Norman kept saying, ‘You can’t do the show without Greg! You guys have got to make a deal. He’s got to be here!’ Then David called me and said, ‘How would you feel about not directing this season?’ Honestly, I felt that it was best for the show that we have someone else come in. Then I could help establish the visual palette, but have someone else realise it. In retrospect, I am really glad that I didn’t [direct] because it allowed me to roll up my sleeves with the directors and really hone in on exactly what we needed to do.”
*  *  *
“Stepping into this role as an EP, my job when I landed in Paris was to make sure that there was some continuity in the two worlds. But not enough that it would make the show feel like we’ve seen it before. I felt really passionate, along with Norman, that we wanted the show to have a different feel. My style of directing is kind of the style of 'The Walking Dead,' because I directed almost 40 episodes. I thought it was important that the show have a different visual flavour to it. So I was very glad because I didn’t need to be behind the camera.”

The orchestra scene was really cool. One of the better WD scenes, IMO.

I absolutely loved it,  if that was shown in Z Nation everyone would be saying how great it was, yet in TWD its more than likely to be classed as silly. Bravo to the new writers and producers for giving it a go, as far as I'm concerned they're definitely on the right track and I hope they're allowed to explore they're imaginations.

Um, what? I've never made any secret of the fact that I think awards shows rarely actually award the best performances of any given year, but again, what?

Daryl might as well practically be a cipher in this. France itself followed by Clemence Poesy are the stars here. Daryl's mostly along for the ride, and all the assorted baddies and the dripped out mystery of the "trouble" that brought him there are easily the least interesting part of this.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Recap: Paris Kinda Sucks
By Leah Marilla Thomas    Oct 1, 2023

Four episodes into this spin-off, and I’m continually struck by how well it works despite one very obvious flaw: Daryl Dixon is not a protagonist. I don’t mean this as a slight on the character or Norman Reedus’ performance, but Daryl doesn’t want to be the center of attention. He doesn’t even want to be perceived. He’s not a leader. I can almost see him trying on personas that are a little more Rick or even a little more Negan, and it just doesn’t work. But the show does, and it’s because of that thing Fallou underlined in his speech: the ensemble. If you’re going to make a show about a supporting character, you have to surround him with other people and make us care about them, too. And I do! I care about Isabelle’s sexy French depression. I care about Anna. I’m fascinated by Quinn. I care about Sylvie’s budding romance with Emile. I even care about Laurent and his destiny. I’m not ready for Daryl’s vacation to be over.

Carol breaks up on the radio, but Daryl hears that someone "came back." How important is that missing nugget of information?

Well, it is important to what her ongoing story may be, and it is important in terms of what we were thinking is going on in Carol's world at that moment. It's also not what the audience expects or anticipates, if they're anticipating something. So it will ultimately prove to be surprising. But that's all based on the idea that we're going to play out that story.

Melissa McBride joining The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon for season 2

The Daryl and Carol Walking Dead spinoff that then became just a Daryl spinoff is now becoming a Daryl and Carol spinoff again.

At a New York Comic Con panel for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon(moderated by yours truly), it was announced by series star Norman Reedusthat Melissa McBride would be joining season 2 of the AMC spinoff as a series regular. The news follows McBride making a vocal cameo as Carol on this past Sunday's episode on a radio call with Daryl, where she announced that someone had "come back" although radio interference blocked the identity of who had come back.
