katisha July 3, 2022 Share July 3, 2022 I'm absolutely gutted for Alvin. I really like him and I just cannot believe he's not there anymore and bloody Dan is. 😠 What have these judges got against Billie? Three eliminations in a row - come on! I'm glad Keyma ended up doing well in round 2 because I certainly would have felt her pain about having to cook not one but two dishes with oysters. I am not a seafood fan and realise most people will think that's weird, but oysters would be up there on my list of truly hideous-looking seafoods, second only to octopus. 🤮 But they are a much desired, expensive delicacy, so what would I know! That was the main reason I didn't like this episode much - one round of all oysters was bad enough, let alone two! And talk about a challenge tailor made for Dan to avoid round 2 - can that really be such a coincidence? Here's what Ben had to say about it all. Quote On a freezing desolate shore, the judges greet the final six and inform them that they are there to re-enact Series 6 of Vikings. But first, they must walk out into the water and meet Giles, a local lunatic who has dedicated his life to the cultivation of aquatic snot. Bahaha - aquatic snot! 😂 Quote Julie has immunity today, so she receives the greatest gift any cook can get: not having to handle oysters. The other five must first present their six oysters, dressed in any way they like: smart casual, evening wear, swimsuit, whatever. Quote Just a few seconds into the cook, anyone playing the MasterChef drinking game is forced to take a shot when Sarah mentions Indian flavours. Meanwhile Keyma is shucking an oyster for the first time ever, and discovering just how worth it the process isn't. As the only contestant willing to tell the truth – that oysters are revolting – Keyma is at a disadvantage, because today's challenge is centred heavily around lying to yourself and others. Everyone else, going along with the pretence that oysters are somehow good, is happily shucking their brains out. He had to go there - might as well, because Alvin did when he said, "The only thing standing between me and top 5 is these mother-shucking oysters!" 😂 Quote Billie has dressed her oysters in chicken fat. They are disgusting and the judges love them. Daniel has dressed his oysters in smoky soy sauce and coconut vinaigrette. They are utterly foul and the judges love them. Alvin has dressed his oysters in brown butter. They are nauseatingly awful and the judges are like, "eh, whatever". Sarah has dressed her oysters in pretentiousness. They are completely horrible and the judges think they're kind of nice in a way. Keyma has dressed her oysters in…I dunno, something yellow? They are vile. The judges are confused. "Had the passionfruit been more tart and less bright, that might've given us a greener underpinning," says Melissa, proving she's been out in the cold too long and has become delirious. Quote Billie is disappointed: she was hoping to win in round one, but not for the first time her inability to be Sarah cost her dearly. It kind of seems that way. Quote But at least he has the consolation that Keyma is also panicking. The taste of oysters is not coming through strongly, which is obviously a good thing, but nevertheless she is worried. She begins to panic. Melissa comes over and grabs her wrists, which some might consider comforting I suppose. "You are a woman," Melissa tells Keyma, and finding this impossible to argue with, Keyma gets on with it. "You're on the home stretch!" yells Melissa with ten minutes to go: a phrase that lacks the puckish humour of previous shout outs like "You're coming out of your shells" and "Why don't you all get shucked?" Quote Finally, Keyma, hater of oysters and therefore the only sane person on the show. Her dish is an oyster pisca andina, which is Spanish for "I wish I didn't have to put oysters in this". She too breaks down in tears, as she thinks of her family and how much they also hate oysters, and how much she misses being in an environment where there are no oysters. 2 1 Link to comment
CrinkleCutCat July 3, 2022 Share July 3, 2022 Poor Alvin. I thought he lost due to a technical issue out of his control (a wok he couldn’t heat up enough), but after the judging I think it was actually more to do with the flavours and complexities of everyone’s dishes. Still not happy Dan is there over others (who are better cooks) who have been booted, including Alvin 😞 1 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy July 3, 2022 Author Share July 3, 2022 (edited) The judges purposely put Billie in round 2. 🙄🙄🙄 Andy's comment on Billie's R1 dish: Quote "Super complex flavors going on in there. The oysters are the last thing that you get on your palate. It starts out with the burst of delicious chicken skin. It does provide a touch of bitterness which I think this style of oysters actually need. Then you get a refreshing burst of granita with the slightly sour but sweet apple and celery combination. Really well done. And then it pops out into like salt and oyster and umami which I really really enjoy." Mel's comment on Billie's R1 dish: Quote "The chicken fat does give you that beautiful mouth coating that am still experiencing now. So you kind of have top and tail of the chicken skin in the beginning, chicken fat at the end and everything beautiful and delicate in between. It will always gonna be about fine tuning and you really shine while you’re still here." Jock's comment when Billie presenting her R2 dish: Quote "Just an observation. Whenever you are in elimination and it’s a 2-rounder, you always always always bring your A game in the 2nd round. I think you cook at your best when we put you under pressure." Jock's comment on Billie's R1 dish was edited out but he mentioned about it during R2 review. Quote "After the oyster went missing in round 1 dish, you determine to hit the brief in round 2. And you hit it right out of the vineyard." Edited July 3, 2022 by SnazzyDaisy 3 Link to comment
Aerobicidal July 3, 2022 Share July 3, 2022 The amount of time devoted to Keyma in this episode was insane inherently satisfying. We got to see her conquer all of her fears, become empowered to reenter the workplace, and convert the humble oyster from an enemy into an ally. Surely this is the most impressive traversing of personal and culinary obstacles ever seen on Masterchef. The further this season goes, the more obvious it is that it's all plot arcs and different standards for different cooks and I'm sick of it. I'm sure it's quite possible Alvin deserved to go today, but the inherent miasma of corruption and bias left a bad impression on me. Now that Keyma's plot arc is done, I suppose she'll go next. I am still all in for Billie to win. 1 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy July 4, 2022 Author Share July 4, 2022 Sneak peak 👀 Truffle hunting and truffle 101 with Anna. Does she look familiar? Anna and her brother, Henry were on MKR a few years back. 1 Link to comment
katisha July 4, 2022 Share July 4, 2022 Second episode in a row which failed to really hold my interest, to the extent that I snoozed through most of the truffle hunt and only half watched the cooking portion of the episode. The main interesting thing about it was that Keyma won immunity. I was sure (as were Sportsbet) that she was the next in line to get booted and since we now know she's not, that brings up some interesting possibilities for tomorrow. We can almost guarantee it won't be Daniel, because apart from the "protected species" thing he's got going on, he's also now the only bloke left so that alone will keep him around for top three, I feel certain. Could it be...could it be that "Saint" Julie might be about to go? I feel it'll be one of the three ladies. If she does, be prepared for an episode which runs about 30 minutes over time while all the judges tearfully apologise for what they've been forced to do. 1 Link to comment
CrinkleCutCat July 4, 2022 Share July 4, 2022 Ha ha, Daniel gave them a dish they could not have possibly given immunity to: cabbage! That poor sad cabbage dish ha ha ha! 2 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy July 4, 2022 Author Share July 4, 2022 The only interesting part of E56 was truffle hunting with Douglas, Poppy and Peggy, they’re adorable. I FFed the cooking scenes and went straight to the result. We can see from miles away that a Fan will win the immunity and they cannot give it to Daniel’s roasted cabbage. So Keyma won, again by default with her recycled, elevated dish or whatever. It’s boring and tiring at this point seeing all the manipulations by the hidden hands. Tomorrow, another Favorite will be going home to make it 2F vs 2F. I just need to prepare myself that most probably it will be Billie. 😣 1 1 Link to comment

I just need to prepare myself that most probably it will be Billie. 😣 You can breathe easier now, @SnazzyDaisy. It was Julie. And I suspected that would be the case because during the episode they showed some footage of Heston Blumenthal walking into the Masterchef kitchen, and he gets this look of recognition on his face. That could only possibly be for Billie so I reckon she'll at least be final three. And in tonight's episode, since we obviously cannot possibly lose Daniel for any reason, it was always going to be between Billie, Sarah and Julie, and the odds suggested Julie (although they were wrong about Keyma). I can't snark too much about this elimination because it's probably not really Julie's fault that the editors decided to feature her quite as much as they did this season. I thought she took the news really well and with good humour. Also, she and Billie get points for having the manners to say "Service, please" to the wait staff. Sounded much more like an order when Sarah and Daniel said it without the "please". Recap time. Quote Sarah is struggling with the vegetable course, mainly because in order to make it she has to cook vegetables. It's a challenge to celebrate whisky in these circumstances except by simply serving a plate of carrots next to a bottle of whisky and saying go for it. Meanwhile Billie has fallen behind having spent most of her time butchering the lamb, as her bloodlust begins to cloud her judgment. Elsewhere Julie is infusing her dates with whisky, which is generally the best way to handle a date. Quote Back in the kitchen, Sarah's failed togarashi pales in comparison to Dan, who has forgotten to turn his fish down and now finds that it is far too loud. It's nearly service time and he can't serve overcooked fish. He runs to the pantry and finds a squid, hoping he can strangle himself with it. Failing that, he decides to try cooking it. Julie helps by telling him to breathe and smile, both vital components of correct squid preparation. In a frantic flurry, he cooks the squid, gets it drunk on gin, and shoves it into the judges' mouths. "It would've been nice with the salmon," says Jock, "but it's better with the calamari". The judges are agreed: it's a great dish, and Dan is a complete idiot for trying to make it with salmon in the first place. "I can't believe he's done that," says Andy, boiling with rage. Quote And so, in the most heartbreaking moment MasterChef has seen since Matt Preston spilt hot minestrone onto his naked crotch, Julie – the OG, the GOAT, Australia's sweetheart, the woman who taught us all to like eating things – is cast out into darkness, doomed to wander the Tasmanian wilderness subsisting only on wild apples and contemporary art. Never has an elimination kicked the guts so hard, especially considering – let's be honest – the state of what's somehow managed to still be in the competition. He's dead right. Love or hate Julie, there's no doubt in my mind that she should still be there and Dan should not. 1 1 2 Link to comment
CrinkleCutCat July 5, 2022 Share July 5, 2022 Bloody show. Julie is a better cook than Dan and Keymah. Bloody producers. On a different note: I wish shows like this were more honest and transparent about when the contestants find out about the challenge and how much time they have to plan and when they tell the production about the ingredients they want instead of this charade about a challenge being put on them and they don’t know what’s available to them in the pantry. Everyone had ingredients they wanted tonight! Sarah had seaweed and mushrooms?! Didn’t see any curry leaves that she didn’t choose! Billie wanted lamb… it’s the only red meat in the fridge. Don’t treat us viewers like idiots. I’d rather know about the time they have to prep. It doesn’t make the show better with the angle that it’s all last minute decision making. 1 1 1 Link to comment

The editors love Julie because she’s so articulate in the confessionals. She has some of the best one-liners throughout this season. My fav is “when a mommy mandarin and a daddy mandarin really love each other…” 😂 Alternatively, the producers and editors could be contractually obligated to feature her that much, as T&Cs for her to comeback. Who knows. With Daniel winning the dish of the day today unexpectedly, he could be winning the fast track to semifinal too. Ugh. 🙄 I want Billie to win the final immunity but that won’t happen I guess, based on the judging pattern. Keeping my expectation as low as possible. 😣 Today, when they’re cooking indoor, they’re provided with the induction burners. Why? Why there’s no induction burners for outdoor cookings for the past 2 days? And why the production team chose that gloomy and creepy venue for an OG elimination? It looked like MC gang initiation or something, it’s weird. Why can’t they use the space where they shot the dining scene? 🤦🏻♀️ Edited July 5, 2022 by SnazzyDaisy 2 1 Link to comment
Aerobicidal July 5, 2022 Share July 5, 2022 Right now the music from Sad: A Tragic Movie About Depression is playing on my monitor while I am thinking, that was a load of insane fuckery. The producers of this show are some real sadists to make us invest in 50+ episodes of the season leading up to a final week that is initially dominated by someone cooking ingredients they've never tried (and, in one case, still won't) and then the bizarre editing and manipulation that reached its inherent peak (hopefully!) today. I felt like the judges were wildly exaggerating the flaws in Sarah and Billie's dishes unless Sarah poured a bucket of togarashi onto their plates and heads and Billie's element that needed a bit more blitzing committed some sort of hate crime. I also can't imagine how any rational person who watch this episode and be thankful they decided to crown Daniel's dish as the dish of the day. Who are the editors rooting for? (Or who is Daniel rooting?*) Not the audience, not the contestants . . . I'll still traverse the finish line but have my fast-forward and mute buttons at the ready. *I think I know what this means in Australian slang because of Kath and Kim. 1 Link to comment

ppl July 6, 2022 Share July 6, 2022 Once again, the judging is biased in favour of Daniel and against Billie. Seriously, the judges are nitpicking every little thing that Billie does wrong and using a 3 Michelin Star standard to judge her dishes while helping Daniel and ignoring flaws in his dishes while using kindergarten standards to prop up his dishes. Telling Daniel to check on his fish after already giving him a big hint with the cured salmon is inexcusable at this stage. It is top 5. They should be able to stand on their own with their ideas and time management. If you really want to know how biased these judges are, Billie has never won immunity in a winner-takes-all against the other Masterchef contestants this season. Meanwhile, Daniel has never been in the bottom 3 besides Marco Pierre White's elimination (probably because they don't dare to go against Marco's opinion). 1 1 Link to comment

The producers would probably say it's not fair to judge Daniel using the same standards they would use to judge Billie, and it's probably not...but then don't have a season like this! It's also not fair to Billie that making one or two tiny mistakes has denied her immunity time and again. The more I think about it, the more I reckon this season was a stupid idea and if Daniel actually wins this I don't think I'll ever be able to watch it again. I'm not including Keyma in this rant because she's not favoured to the extent that he has been, so I cannot see her winning. 3 Link to comment

katisha July 6, 2022 Share July 6, 2022 Well, wasn't that a nice surprise! For once, the judges got it right: Keyma and Daniel knocked out in round 1, leaving Sarah and Billie to duke it out for the immunity spot with Billie as the victor! 😊 Can anyone tell me why Daniel was so impressed with his own shepherd's pie? The judges have over-praised him for so long, I think he's developed delusions of grandeur. There's nothing remotely revolutionary about using Vegemite and cheese together. I knew that was a good combo about 45 years ago. 😑 1 1 Link to comment
katisha July 6, 2022 Share July 6, 2022 And the recap is here. Quote Dan asks Sarah what she's making. "A boudin blanc," she replies. "What's that?" asks Dan. The tension of the class struggle hangs heavy in the air. As it turns out, a boudin blanc is a chicken sausage, "boudin blanc" being French for "I am too big a w*nker to just call this a sausage". Jock comes round to Sarah's kitchen to tell her that a sausage on its own isn't enough, and he's had enough failed relationships to know whereof he speak. Sarah decides to add a cassoulet, which is French for "I like to say French words". Oh, Ben loves to poke fun at Sarah's pretensions and I'm here for it. 😂 Quote Billie takes her parfait out of the freezer. "Is it set?" asks Jock, in the voice of a man who can only achieve sexual arousal by seeing parfaits fail to set. Sadly for Jock, the parfait is – more or less – set, and he will have to get his kicks from someone else's failure. Quote Billie decides to give a nod to the cakes her nan makes, but do it in a very fancy and elaborate way so her nan is really put in her place. Sarah, on the other hand, finds her mind going immediately to French fine dining and reflects fondly on how much better she is than normal people. Sarah compresses her cucumbers in the cryovac machine, then puts her scallops in to confit, as she methodically works her way through the Dictionary of Pretentious Cooking Methods. The judges visit to ask her what she's doing. Sarah doesn't really know, but whatever it is, she's doing it with some very expensive equipment, so she's hitting the brief dead-on. Meanwhile Billie is making a crumb, which isn't really that impressive: I make crumbs every night at dinner without even trying. Quote Sarah serves her confit scallops in a pool of nauseating green liquid. Melissa cracks out a quick "glossy", but in the end the sauce is like Aquaman: too heavy and too prawny. The scallops have drowned in the baby poo and Sarah has failed. Billie is through to the semi-final and Sarah has lost her sixth immunity cook in a row, proving that MasterChef really is a comedy. 1 Link to comment
ChicagoMe July 6, 2022 Share July 6, 2022 It's becoming more and more apparent as we near the end how embarrassed Daniel is about his standing. I think he's fully aware at how underqualified he is to have made it this far and how farcical his performance has been with all the fabricated praise heaped upon him. He looked like a fraud tonite and he seemed to be feeling it too. At this point I feel a bit sorry for him but better cooks have been booted off in favor of his weak showings in the final cooks and maybe he's now feeling guilty at having agreed to go along with this ridiculous competition that granted him this false status. Last season was a huge disappointment with Justin winning with his subpar cooking just to have a man in top spot. Here we are again so it seems. 1 1 Link to comment
Aerobicidal July 6, 2022 Share July 6, 2022 The editors are having a field day with Daniel and I don't know if I'm embarrassed for him, amused, or just weary. Today he went from "look at me doing a brunoise" (which he mispronounced, a huge pet peeve of mine on cooking shows) to "sick pie bro" to "me don't know what boudin blanc is" to "sick Vegemite bro." The last thing this show needs is anything remotely close to a Justin 2.0. The second half of the episode, despite its John Williams takes ecstasy on the moon background music, was quite enjoyable and of course I was happy with the outcome. I'm so happy we're almost done with this season. 1 1 Link to comment
katisha July 7, 2022 Share July 7, 2022 15 hours ago, Aerobicidal said: I'm so happy we're almost done with this season. Ain't that the truth. I usually love the episode we had tonight where the last few contestants get to have a bit of fun by competing against the judges, and annoying the judges whilst they cook stuff. But tonight I only half watched it because the season's just limping to a really anti-climactic finish and I don't think anyone cares that much. Probably the only highlight was Daniel's expert imitation of Andy giving feedback (which probably wasn't that hard because in the eyes of the producers, he kind of IS Andy, Mk whatever). Oh, and Billie's droll comments were appreciated too. She managed to be mildly snarky but she's too polite to really go hard on the judges (even though they bloody deserved it). Sashi was rather conspicuous by his absence and frankly, if he'd decided he couldn't be bothered to return under those circumstances I can't blame him (although he might have had commitments with his restaurant or had COVID or something). So, basically, wake me up when it's over. And are we there yet? 😴 1 1 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy July 7, 2022 Author Share July 7, 2022 (edited) The masterclass was okay. Jock was cocky as usual. It's so kind of Andy to save Jock from the potatoes boiling disaster. I love Sarah's lovely dress and Alvin's funky jumper. 😘 I hope Daniel's minions can see his sheer arrogance in this episode especially those who have suggested him to be a judge in MasterChef Junior. Gosh, what a terrible idea! He acted like a movie star when he's walking into the kitchen. 🤮 Am feeling a bit sad and angry seeing Michael on the gantry while Daniel was down there enjoying his limelight. Good for Sashi, Tommy and John for not joining this nonsense, just to stand up there and be a cheerleader, for what? 🤷🏻♀️ Am super duper happy that Billy won the final immunity when it matters the most. She deserves that after having to fight in several eliminations continuously. When Billie said, "I do wanna take Jock and Andy down. They're giving us hell for the last 3 months", all her fans would be like "hell yeah". Now, I can watch Peter Gilmore's pressure test without having to worry about Billie. Mellowyellow July 8, 2022 Share July 8, 2022 It is an absolute crime that Michael is gone and Daniel and Keyma are still in the competition. I don't like Sarah either. TVbitch July 8, 2022 Share July 8, 2022 I wasn't even rooting for Julie, but that elimination really chapped my ass! First the judges told Daniel to change his salmon dish cuz they knew he didn't have time to make what he was attempting, then they came back into the kitchen to tell him he had over-cooked his salmon, so that he would still have enough time to do the squid. Have they ever come back into the kitchen during an elimination once they are seated and tasting? Why did they not tell Julie she was burning her cake? On top of that, while Daniel was frantically recovering with the squid, he kept running his hands through his hair and over his face and then he picked up the squid with his hands to put it on the plates. YUCK!!! I wonder if he is aware that he is being dragged to the finish line. Thank goodness Billie made a perfect dish and won immunity! Now I'm wondering if the powers-that-be have FINALLY thrown in the towel on their agenda because they realize it is too absurd to pull off. I think they might shift to Keyma being the token fan in the final as they have been really upping her praise all of a sudden, but maybe they have realized they will be forced to let Billie (rightly) win as she is too clearly head and shoulders above the others. 2 Link to comment
Snazzy Daisy July 8, 2022 Author Share July 8, 2022 (edited) RECAP: 2 big (predictable) eliminations, Alvin and Julie Goodwin had to say goodbye to the competition. The Top 5 had some fun times picking-up oysters and truffle hunting in Tassie. Daniel seemed to be having extra fun in Tassie, enjoying the MC limelight. Daniel struggled in the Lawrence Distillery Service Challenge because of his bad planning, but with special guidance from the kind judges and extra support from his caring MC mommy, he made it thru. His minions were so happy seeing how much he has grown in the competition. A day after her elimination, Julie Goodwin wasted no time to correct the public opinion about MC judges having favorites (SOURCE). People who commented on socmed about Julie and Daniel being the judges' favorites (especially Billie's fans) have been called "conspiracy theorists". Billie and Sarah fought in round 2 for the final immunity and first spot in the semi final. The 2 ladies were having fun in their fancy kitchen while competing in a friendly manner. Queen Billie ended up winning the immunity. Yay! The eliminated contestants returned to MC kitchen for the final Masterclass (excl. Sashi, John & Tommy). Unfortunately, their roles have been reduced to a gantry cheerleader while the Top 4 were having so much fun cooking and competing with the judges. Sad huh. Mel said hitting the brief is more important than execution, so Jock and Andy won. Michael told Keyma that the judges vs Top 4 battle was rigged. Well Michael, we already knew that! What do you think of your own elimination??! (Screenshot credit to this Twitter acc) Edited July 8, 2022 by SnazzyDaisy 1 Link to comment
