I think those HWs are all involved in charity work because it's such a society/status thing there. It's not like that in SoCal - people are involved here, they just don't make a thing about it (well, except LVP but then she's not from here). 2 Link to comment

There's a little bit of history involved with charity and the wealthy on the East Coast. It mostly started during the Gilded Age when the super wealthy and well connected society women were called upon to help with donations to the poor and disadvantaged that lived in the tenements in the Lower East side of NYC. Jane Addams, a social worker, who came from a connected family called upon these wealthy women to donate money, clothing, food, etc. to these families that were so impoverished and living in squalor. It soon became a popular thing to do and a social must if you wanted to be invited to charity events and other social gatherings where money was raised. It continues to this day but has expanded to other locales where the wealthy party and socialize like the Hamptons, Palm Beach, Newport (Rhode Island), Greenwich, CT, etc.etc.. 3 4 Link to comment

She has no interest in "mixing and mingling with the locals." Many people go to foreign countries to immerse themselves in a different way of life, learn a new culture and meet people. Not Heather! She'd never be caught dead in an Airbnb, hostel or even a regular hotel. If you're just going to put up walls around you what does it matter where you are on the globe? I don’t like Heather and never have, but I will say that historically one of the things I *have* appreciated about her was that she did seem to take an interest in the local culture and seemed game to try new experiences during the trips. 4 Link to comment

And she asked about Jen's leg, too. I also dislike Heather but I agree that there are moments like this in which she actually seems like a good, reasonable person. And that makes me wonder if that person is perhaps closer to the “real” Heather versus the persona she’s putting on for the show. (Which begs the question of why anyone would deliberately come across as so obnoxious. For the paycheck, I guess?) 3 Link to comment

Heather still has her obnoxious and pretentious moments, but I have to say this is the first season I've enjoyed some of her scenes. Having watched her and her mother in the restaurant, we can now get why she is so particular about things. At least she isn't horrible towards the staff like her mother is. I think she's more relatable when she talks about being very sensitive, and having problems with her mother. I wish she'd be more like that on the show, and would stop putting on a front. I'm probably the only one, but I really liked her in That's Life, and when I heard she'd be on the show, I was looking forward to seeing her. But she was not at all what I expected! 😅 She's one of my least favorite housewives. 2 Link to comment

I'm not a fan of museum-like houses. I like homes like Kyle Richards'. Yolanda and David Foster's house was gorgeous as well. Part of the appeal of the franchise has always been lifestyle porn. Maybe it's hard to get the right balance or please everyone. I'm a fan until it goes from "ooh must be nice" or maybe you just have to be really rich to find that kind of spending appropriate to spending money like it comes from tap. The Dubrows take their spending too far for my tastes. I know Terry is a really successful surgeon, but still. I enjoy seeing mansions, luxury cars, designer clothes, travel porn, etc. When I hear about things like Erika Jayne's $40,000 a month on glam alone or $30,000 for just a random party, I don't find it aspirational. I find it excessive. Speaking of spending and charity work, Joanna Krupa is one Housewife who was awesome in this regard. She enjoyed the fruits of her labor. I remember she had at least one gorgeous home and beautiful things, but also said in interviews she didn't have a favorite designer, that super high priced skin care was a waste of money, that she'd rather give back than spend on her money on things like shoes, etc. She was and I believe is very philanthropic with animal charities. She made her own at one point, not positive if she is still working that particular one. On 2/6/2022 at 4:44 PM, Mother of Odin said: Good question. 50% so far.
