Constantinople June 3, 2022 Share June 3, 2022 It is really amazing how touchy some people get on the subreddit for HotD. Many people there seem to think laws of succession are inherent truths comparable to articles of faith and not rules developed and modified by society over time. And if you disagree, you'll be insulted personally. Oh well. Looking forward here to spirited though friendly debate about why the Greens and the Blacks are each worse than the other. 1 Link to comment
magdalene October 19, 2022 Share October 19, 2022 (edited) If you need more incesty fictional drama in your life once Hot!D finishes the season I can highly recommend The Borgias available on Netflix in the US. It's based on that particular historical family's infamous exploits. There are gorgeous sets and costumes, beautiful actors and a brother and sister pair that loves each other entirely too much. I have no idea whether Cesare Borgia was sexy in real life (he was cunning, smart and ruthless, Machiavelli's famous The Prince is based on him), but he sure is in this show. May not be for devout Catholics. Or people who are squeamish about sex and violence. Edited October 22, 2022 by magdalene 1 1 Link to comment

Speaking as someone obsessed with the new Interview with the Vampire series on AMC, I can safely say I'm neither of those, lol, and appreciate the recommendation. 👍 2 Link to comment
Meredith Quill October 19, 2022 Author Share October 19, 2022 While not incesty (well maybe a little in the latter), I submit two HBO series - The Tudors and Rome - if historical intrigue, sex & violence is your thang. 4 1 Link to comment

I love Rome, cancelled way too soon. I guess I should finally watch the Tudors. 2 Link to comment

By the way the Borgias also has a fascinating gay character in it who is Cesare's special side-kick. 1 Link to comment

proserpina65 October 26, 2022 Share October 26, 2022 I just might try watching The Last Kingdom again. I tried when BBC America (I think) was running it but only got maybe 4 or 5 episodes in before getting bored of the domestic soap opera aspect. Now, of course, there's a reason to give it another shot. Although apparently I will have to slog through all of the first season and most of the second, so . . . Link to comment

CountryGirl October 28, 2022 Share October 28, 2022 I have held off on watching the final season of The Last Kingdom, so I could finally finish Vikings. Then I’ll probably watch Vikings: Valhalla and S5 of The Crown, of course. 1 Link to comment
go4luca October 28, 2022 Share October 28, 2022 I just binged and am now all caught up on The Handmaids Tale. I love Bradley Whitford as Commander Lawrence. "Do you have an irony deficiency?" "Gilead's gonna Gilead." Link to comment
magdalene October 28, 2022 Share October 28, 2022 If you like Chris Hemsworth a good early movie with him is Black Hat, available on Netflix, US. If you like classic movies, I just watched My Man Godfrey for the first time. A classic for good reason. I rewatched The Last Waltz still the best movie of its kind. I wish I had been the right age to see The Band live once in my life. Rick Danko's and Levon Helm's voices make me want to cry. 1 Link to comment
RibsoroughMan November 10, 2022 Share November 10, 2022 Hi all My parent's charity (www.epiphany.org.uk) has been given a sound system from the House of The Dragon production team in order to raise funds for its projects (in Sri Lanka / Myanmar / Ukraine). Does anyone know of a good place to try to sell it? It feels a bit specialist for eBay! The value of the kit is about £2k and the presentation is quite special. (See details & pic below). Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. - A limited edition custom Bose soundbar 900 + Bose bass module - Custom QuietComfort 45 headphones - Beautiful custom wooden box to carry it all in - the sound entertainment unit is in conjunction with the HBO ‘House of the Dragon’ release - the sound bar has the house of Targaryen sigil embossed on it - the wooden box it comes in has ‘Sound will reign’ in gold letters written over it - the Showrunner/Executive producer/Director Miguel Sapochnik has signed the box Thanks a lot 2 Link to comment

Quoting myself to say that I've gotten through the first two seasons of The Last Kingdom, and while some of it was indeed a slog, Baby Monk was worth the effort. Plus, I love Ragnar and also Aethelwold, surprisingly. Unfortunately I have to hold off on the next season until after the World Cup because I won't have time for anything else. 2 Link to comment

The first couple of weeks were brutal with 3 matches almost every day, plus I work fulltime and couldn't watch games at work. It's more manageable this week and the next, though I'll still wait until after the final for the next season of Last Kingdom. 1 Link to comment

magdalene February 19, 2023 Share February 19, 2023 (edited) If you have never seen Matt Smith in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies you should watch that movie. He's hilariously funny in it. From what I read he improvised a lot of his performance. Edited February 19, 2023 by magdalene 2 1 Link to comment
Constantinople May 20, 2023 Share May 20, 2023 Interesting article in the Guardian today about the theft in 2021 of 45 bottles of wine from a Michelin starred restaurant in Cáceres, Spain. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2023/may/20/those-bastards-stole-the-most-special-stuff-the-inside-story-of-a-16m-wine-heist I mention it because scenes for Season 2 are being filmed in Cáceres (as I was reading the article I realized I had heard of the town even though, to quote the song, "Well I never been to Spain"). No spoilers are in the article. If you want those, head over to the HotD media thread. 2 Link to comment
