  1. If the writers wanted Laurel to be the main female lead, they shouldn't have shoved her in the background from season 1's mid-season to season 2's mid-season. Forcing her back into a lead role after all of that and given back lead screentime is problematic because she has no place in the show anymore. Felicity took over the role of Oliver's love interest, Sara has more than claimed the role of Canary, Diggle and Felicity are the trusted confidants, Lance is the law enforcement contact, etc. Laurel doesn't add anything to the show, which is proven by the fact that you can skip 95 percent of her scenes and not miss anything important. The show has moved on without her. The writers just refuse to accept it. I'm curious, after season 1 the writers admitted they handled Laurel poorly and acknowledged that she wasn't well-received by the fans; have they said anything similar since season 2 ended?
  2. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed that. Despite the repetitive storyline, I thought they did it quite well. I liked Sparkle. And this was without a doubt Lucas's best episode. They should let him be charming more often. I really enjoyed his scenes with Maya. I think I might start to actually ship them. Topanga had the best lines of the night with "I wonder how many people the idea of Cory and Topanga has ruined?" and "Oh no, I married Feeny!" As for things I didn't like? Wasting time on a side-story for a 5 year old. I just don't care. Also, I don't like Farkle; other then what I dubbed "life-lesson" time, he is always over the top annoying. And during the end credits I rolled my eyes so hard. The kid can be a good dramatic actor, the but writing for what is supposed be be his comedy stinks. Riley continues to be annoying. She needs to dial it back a few notches or something. Her constant smiling is creepy. Just imagine that smiling face with white make-up and green hair.
  3. Someone should tweet the writers about this complaint so they can correct it in season 2.
  4. To be fair, we already saw Barry on Arrow, and Caitlin as well. So thinking about how those two characters would go together on the same show is only natural. Not to mention, I think everyone is tired of the destined romance pairings pairings. People didn't react kindly to Lois on Smallville or Laurel on Arrow. I think this is partly because it takes much of the tension and mystery out of character interactions. Shoddy writing for those destined characters doesn't help. In addition to all of that, much of the Iris 'hate' comes from the fact that at her core she sounds awfully like Laurel. Right down to the over-protective cop father. The same writers handling the character doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Still, I don't have Iris on my hate list yet. Pilots are never an example of what a show will be.
  5. Its been a while for me too. But I don't remember BMW repeating the exact same plot every other episode. I hope the episode surpasses my limited expectations.
  6. Another episode where a character wants to change herself? Really? This show is getting repetitive. Every other episode is about a character changing herself/ getting a make over. Riley wanting to be like Maya, Riley becoming nerd, and now making over a nerd. There's only been around 8 episodes so far... and they've already repeated the same plot 3 times.
  7. I really dislike Riley. She annoys the heck out of me. As per the pattern, Maya once again stole the show. Maybe she should be the main character. I did like Minkus, Cory, and Topanga. I'd like to see Minkus recur, as he's the best thing about having Farkle around.
  8. 1. Riley/Lucas do nothing for me, whether together or as individuals I just don't care about them. I care about Riley when the focus is on her relationships with Cory and Maya, but thats about it. Maybe if they would give her something to do other than obsess over Lucas they could show me a side of her that will make me life her. In addition to looking like a 17 year old in a class of 13 year olds, Lucas to just to dang bland. There's no character or charisma to him. I do admit to liking all of his interaction's with Maya though, but that was mostly because of Maya. 2. I liked the scenes with Cory, Topanga, and Auggie. Seeing more into the home life of Cory and Topanga was great; as was the reveal that she is indeed a lawyer and not running a trendy pudding shop. 3. Cory pausing his lessons while the kids have a conversation and only continuing once the stop is annoying. 4. Farkles was toned down, thankfully. But the fact that he lurks outside of Riley's window is creepy. Just please drop his love for the girls. I did like that he was otherwise portrayed as a good friend. 5. Maya was great as usual. There were a couple of good insights to her life such as Topanga mothering her and serving her breakfast, and her not knowing how to flirt and not being ready for that yet. 6. The adult themes were funny. The allusion to Cory and Topanga's sex life like Cory apparently saying "whoa, baby" when hopping to bed with Topanga. lol All in all, I enjoyed everything other than Riley and Lucas. Its a shame they were such a major part of the episode. This is the third episode in a row where RIley is obsessing about him, and from the previews it seems that will continue next week as well.
  9. 1. Why are they always most excited about Laurel's story? Why do they keep trying to make her happen? What is it going to take for them to realize that she just isn't working? The writers must really admire the Lana Lang route. 2. I'm already tired of them using Felicity to try and make us care about other heroes. Its old already. These guys can stand on their own. You don't need to have them romance Felicity to make me like them. 3. Really happy that Sara is back. I'm hoping to see flashbacks to her time in the LOA, as well as explore her past and current relationship with Nyssa. But that fact that she still lives only makes the fact that Laurel's existence is unnecessary all the more pronounced. 4. A Tommy appearance is always fun. It will be interesting to see him as the party-boy again instead of the gruff, dark, sarcastic man he died as. 5. Thea is already more qualified to be a crime-fighter than Laurel. I'm looking forward to her story with Malcolm, 6. I don't mind Flash crossovers, even if it is early in the series. After all, Buffy and Angel had some good early crossovers. Spike appeared in Angel's third episode and spiced things up.
  10. @maraleia I've never been good at titling things. How about "Girl Meets World: Likes, Dislikes, and General Impressions"?
  11. Of the three episodes I've seen, this one is my favorite. I didn't like the Riley/Lucas plot. These characters don't do much for me and this romance is so rushed. What made the episode for me was Cory and Maya. I really like Cory as a teacher and mentor so far (even if I'd rather he put a stop to Farkle time). From his experience with Shawn he knows that Maya doesn't have the easiest home life, but he also knows that those are the kinds of people that dislike charity the most. So I think the final scene is in part him asking Maya to keep an eye on Riley and make sure she's ok, and part him wanting to present his motives as selfish to do a good thing for Maya. I like how they showed Maya's talent for drawing relatively early in the series, in contrast with Shawn's talent for poetry coming out of nowhere in the original series. Farkle was toned down, and he kind of had a good moment with Maya, but he still feels like an over-exaggeration of Minkus to me. His obsession with Riley and Maya is creepy and I can't believe Cory hasn't put a stop to it in the classroom.
  12. I decided to make this thread instead of cluttering the individual episode threads, especially as some of these either span all of the episodes or none of them. Instead of making multiple posts and topics, I decided to post them all at once. I figure we can all post our general likes, dislikes, and other thoughts about Girl Meets World. I apologize if this isn't allowed, I am relatively new here. My thoughts on Girl Meets World and the comparisons to Boy Meets World: 1. Cory Matthews is still awesome and a huge part of the show. I love it. Especially his relationship with Maya; his experience with Shawn gives him the knowledge of the right way to treat a person like her. Him being the new Feeny imparting wisdom is awesome. 2. I don’t care for Riley. I’ve seen 3 episodes and still don’t know anything about her outside of her friendship with Maya and her crush on Lucas. So far she is defined by them and I have no reason to care about her as a character. In the pilot she was trying to be Maya, why should I care? At that point in the series I had no handle who Riley was as character before she wanted to re-invent herself, so that plot had no impact on me. 3. Maya is the standout new character for me. The actress is just amazing, and as someone who doesn’t have all the newest things her character is one I can relate to. Between the talents of the actress and the characters charisma and troubled life, I think Maya is in a prime position to steal the show away from Riley. 4. While I liked Lucas well enough in the first episode (I didn’t love him, but didn’t dislike him), the following two episodes made me change my tune. He exists solely as a love interest. There is nothing else to him. 5. I don’t like the Riley/Lucas romance. It is way too soon and way too forced. In Boy Meets World we were given time to get to know the characters as individuals before romance became a thing. When I don’t know who either character is as an individual why should I root for them to hook up? Not to mention the actor playing Lucas looks like he’s 5 years older than her. 6. Farkle. I hated him in the pilot, but he was toned down a bit in the next 2 episodes. His obsession with the girls is creepy and over-the-top. “Farkle Time” is stupid. I’d rather see Cory able to teach a class without this little kid interrupting every week. I did like his scene with Maya mostly and he has a good scene or two in next week’s episode. Just tone him down to Minkus levels at the minimum. 7. Topanga has been marginalized. While she was never a favorite of mine, it would kill them to cut out some useless scenes of Riley mooning over Lucas and give her something to do other than be Auggie’s mother. 8. I don’t like the sets and wardrobes. Everything is too bright and Disney-ish. It looks like every other Disney Channel show. The sets and clothes on BMW were more realistic. 9. The complaint some people have about Girl Meets World not tackling tough subject matter like Boy Meets World did. That complaint is only made by the incredibly impatient. Am I the only one who actually remembers the first season of Boy Meets World? The hard-hitting topics that so many are praising mainly consisted of Cory wanting a new squirt gun, getting a perm, obsessing over baseball, etc. Granted there was some more mature stuff too later with Shawn’s episode, but that was later in the season and GMW is already tackling the subject of a difficult home life with Maya. The topics that Boy Meets World touched upon matured with the characters. I think the same will be true of Girl Meets World. 10. The complaint that it is unrealistic storyline wise. This baffles me. Boy Meets World was hardly the most realistic of shows. Cory taking cell phones from his class is ‘unrealistic’ and seems to make some people angry. Yet Boy Meets World had disappearing characters, timeline issues, time travel episodes, witches, a talking cat, Eric’s mental retardation, etc. Complaining that Girl Meets World is unrealistic in comparison is mind-boggling to me. 11. The complaint that Cory giving Maya a phone is inappropriate behavior for a teacher. Really? While I love Feeny and Turner they too had inappropriately close relationship with their students. Hell, Feeny followed Cory around throughout every step of his education. Does anyone remember Feeny threatening to flunk Shawn unless he went to the Super Bowl? Don’t forget about Shawn actually living with Mr. Turner. I don’t get how those are ok but Cory’s actions are condemned. 12. One major issue with the show for BMW fans is the POV and tone. Fans of Boy Meets World grew up with Cory over a span of 7 years, and the series matured with him. Now we have a new show with Cory and we have once again latched on to Cory as our POV character. We know him, we relate to him, we love him. But he’s not the series POV any more. Though Cory has aged, the current series he is on is in its infancy. We won’t see him and Topanga discussing mature topics as we did in season 7. Its a disconnect for BMW fans everywhere. Cory is there, but the show isn’t matching his maturity anymore. He’s still our POV character, but not the series’. We are adults unable to latch on to Riley’s POV because while we matured and grew with Cory, we cannot with her. I do my best to remember that this show is for the younger generation at the moment, and as these kids mature the series will mature with them. So, I enjoy the so far. Mostly for Cory and Maya, but I have faith the show will only get better as it goes along. What are your likes, dislikes, and general thoughts on this series?

I just watched the pilot and I have to say I'm not enthused about the character. Patton did a decent enough job, but the writing for the character did her no favors.
