The Lonely Js Club: James, Jackson & Johannah
graefin replied to SpaghettiTuesdays's topic in Counting On
I remember him as a preteen, and it was those interviews that led me to view him as articulate and intelligent (at least relative to the rest of the family). I did not find him obnoxious. -
Josh: Joseph John-David: Josiah Jill: Joy-Anna, James, and Jennifer Jana: Jason, Jackson, and Josie Jessa: Jeremiah, Justin, and Jordyn Jinger: Jedidiah and Johannah I'm not sure how Michelle could have considered personality types when matching up buddies, since they were assigned at birth.

Authors get an "advance," which is meant to cover the costs incurred in writing the book. Usually the first half is paid on signing and the second half on manuscript delivery. -

They've used the "boyfriend/girlfriend" terminology before with Jessa/Ben. -
Michelle is often very clenched in her photos, sometimes quite obviously. I've wondered if it's a sign of control issues or extreme anxiety.

I don't think I'd get too excited about the jeans. Whitney, who married Zach Bates, used to wear pants until she was "convicted to only wear skirts" following her marriage to Zach. Also, his mom is Guatemalan (according to Marjorie's bio). -

Eh, maybe they just want to have some place of their own to stay during the many times they come to visit. -

This is pretty surprising and, frankly, sad. Isn't Josiah younger than even Josh (who basically rushed into a relationship and marriage because he was "struggling with certain thoughts") was when he started courting Anna? I've always thought Josiah was the smartest Duggar and hoped he would be able to break the mold despite the shackles put on him by his family/cult. I tend to think this early courtship is a sign of the opposite happening. -
I noticed that too. There is definitely a drip set in the background, so it seems that she went home on an IV. I'm guessing that this isn't standard protocol following a C-section.

I find it more interesting that those who marry into the Duggars (Anna, Derick) are the ones getting adult braces rather than those who might need them more (Josh).

19 Things I Hate About You: How the Duggars Infuriate
graefin replied to Ljohnson1987's topic in Counting On
I would doubt they speak the way they do intentionally as far as diction and vocab go, but obviously I can't prove it. I also think they lack self-awareness about how they come across to others. (Let's face it: if Michelle had any self-awareness, it seems highly unlikely she would say or do 90% of the things she says or does.) I do think their intonation/voice pitch is intentional per Gothard "keep sweet" rules and/or their desire to be seen a certain way by others. In Michelle's case, I think the steady rise in her pitch is also attributable to her increasing mental decompensation. They clearly don't realize that saying things like, "the last time I went camping, a bear was clawing at the tent, and the experience was *horrifying*" in a high-pitched, cloying voice (Anna) makes them seem insane to the rest of the world. -
I'm not talking about her voice. I'm talking about her diction and (lack of) vocabulary.

I just saw the episode. Jill has got to be, like, the most inarticulate Duggar ever. I, like, cringe when I hear her speak. Some of her younger siblings sound less like a 12-year-old than she does. It's crazy. (Frankly, I don't think Derick is much better despite not having been deprived of a normal education.)
-
I think that's a regionalism. BTW, here's a good example of the Duggar inability to form a complete sentence: "When everyone else is asking you, 'When are you going to have that baby?' The baby will come when the baby comes." (Jill, from the People interview)
-
I think this might be a fundie thing rather than a Jill thing (although it could be that Jill is particularly needy). I've noticed that most married fundies share social media accounts with their spouses and most refer to their spouse as their best friend (as in "I married my best friend!"). They are incredibly immature for their age and say things like they find it sad/difficult to be away from their significant other during the 30 minutes or whatever it takes them to get dressed for their wedding (Jessa). I mean, really? You can't bear being apart for 30 minutes before you spend the rest of your lives together? Ben also accompanied Jessa on her speaking tour, saying something like, "I couldn't let her go alone." It's as if once they are married, they are one entity rather than also two individuals.

I think Michelle's interactions with *anyone* are phony. She really only cares about herself and seems incapable of feeling any genuine emotion. I think she was always this way, but lately it's either gotten worse or she's less adept at hiding it. Also, I think it's quite a stretch to conclude that Derick and his mom aren't close based on what we've seen. There could be many reasons he didn't go visit her (finding it difficult to travel with your pregnant, emotionally needy wife attached to your hip could be one). Actually, I'd guess that he and his mom have a closer, more meaningful relationship than Jill does with her mom. But then that doesn't take much.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

That's a pretty low bar. -
It's really two different things. Accidents requiring surgery are emergent situations, so of course they will do surgery even if the patient hasn't fasted. But whenever you can help it, you'd want to avoid having anything in your stomach that could be aspirated during induction of anesthesia, because that, you know, could lead to death.
-
I'd wager the mold remediation was filmed and thus the bill footed by TLC. Probably why he waited until now to fix it instead of when the previous tenant initially complained.
-
But that's been her plan for *all* household duties. Is it any surprise that she lumps education in with all the other chores like cooking and cleaning? I think she lacks the self-awareness to even realize that she is lazy. As far as I understand, narcissists are good at looking busy without actually really doing much.
-
She's also said things like, the doctor "contributed" Josie's medical problems to the fact that she's a preemie. Honestly, I don't think anyone in this family knows the meaning of articulate (with the exception of maybe Josiah?). They always talk without really saying anything. And yet it's still more than Michelle ever does.

I would count on it. Remember the "dinner theater" episode where Joy said to the little kids that if they don't obey, she'll "send them to Jana"?
