Did anyone have "Quantic Dream makes a Star Wars game" on their bingo card? Press "X" to "Yoda."

Fuck. This one hurts. For George's sake, I hope he's as comfortable and gets to live as much as he can. I also hope he might get to do another con just so fans can give him is due, but he should prioritize his family.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) (2023)

I also think that Glen and Beth A, neither of whom have had the whole thing weighing on their souls for almost 30 years were better equipped in that moment to support Tami. The other five were having a conversation they should have had back then, so of course no one is going to react in the "right" way, whatever that is. I get why Tami was upset, but I don't think she was being entirely fair to the others, especially Jon. I really appreciated them giving clips of other bad behavior on David's part. I'd remembered him being nasty to Beth, but had forgotten his hair trigger towards the other castmates, although admittedly, Jon attempting to hang a Confederate flag probably left a lingering bad impression. The whole thing really was just a crescendo of something that had been running through the house since the beginning. I don't blame the women for not being comfortable with him being there (especially if it caused Irene to sleep with her gun nearby, and especially especially after he whipped his dick out) and I don't think they owe him an apology for that part of things, although it's big of them to do it. Irene's "stop or I'll scream 'rape'" was wrong, and her apology was full-throated. And I do believe her when she said that was the one way she could think to call him off in the moment. It did bother me that only Beth S addressed David's other behavior, and then only in the confessional.

If memory serves, they were given three potentials to pick from, just as San Fran was given three to replace Puck. I do not remember a damned thing about the third one, but one was on the track team at UCLA and they all thought he was gay. Perhaps he would have been too similar to Aaron. Glen was a very specific early 90s grunge archetype--the whole "I don't want to sell out my art. I'm spiritual but not religious" thing. My emerging queerness would have been very attracted to him back then. But he had such an ugly personality in the end. But I can see why on the surface he would have been appealing.

I'm sure she's had a lot of assistance in that department. And I am in no way shading her for that, she looks like a good-looking older version of the woman we met in '93, not someone desperate to still look that young. If that's a route someone wants to go down, there's a lot to be said for restraint.

How is such a thing even possible? Nothing about this show should work, but basically everything does. I don't get how you take something as stupid as the original show and make it into some heartfelt and meaningful. While not taking itself too seriously with dumb humor that's actually funny?

By the end, Tami, Jon, and Beth S were close, although I think the two women might only have been in proximity because of Jon. I just remember how kind and supportive he was to Tami after she had her abortion. It's easy to understand why they stayed in touch. I also think all of the women--Irene especially--felt maternal toward him, since he was so young and the other guys had a tendency to pick on him. There was a really nice profile of Tami the day the first reunion episode dropped. I think she very much deserves to have the episode reconsidered after 30 years of conversations about consent and men being told what "no" means. It's still very disheartening to me to read some comments on social media putting the incident on her. And it's still disgusting that people don't quote Beth S properly.

I think Glen said he was in touch with Aaron. I guess I'm in the minority, but I didn't have a lot of sympathy for David, even back then. There gets to be a moment during the scene where she starts to look legit terrified, but he just kept going and going. I don't blame any of the women for not being comfortable having him stay in the house, particularly when he seemed to lack any ability to understand what he'd done wrong, even though it was inadvertent. He can talk today about how it destroyed his career, but what did that was HIS actions, not how Tami, Beth, and Irene reacted. Maybe there will be a return of the asshole Outward Bound instructors. All of the housemates were united against those douchebags. So, they did bond over that experience, just not in the way I think MTV had intended.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 - General Discussion
starri replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Mystery Science Theater 3000
This began its life as a Dr. Strange movie, but when they lost the rights, it was re-written hastily. It also stars Jeffery Combs from Re-Animator and Deep Space Nine. As bad as I'm sure the movie will be, he's AWESOME, so I'm really, really looking forward to this one. -
I think it was established that Adira is only 16 when they were introduced, although when you factor in that they have several hundred years of living in the symbiont, I guess notions of adulthood go out the window. That said, Hugh and (especially) Paul are very protective of them, so I could see about requesting a remodel.

The anomaly certain is...vulvar.

I like Disco for what it is, even if it's different than most of the other Trek shows. But the most Star Trek thing there is, it's a group of people working together to solve a problem. And boy, did they deliver on that one this week. I'm kind of surprised that Adira has their own quarters (albeit shared, likely with another junior crewmember) instead of bunking with their dads. I guess they're not being treated as any different than the rest of the crew, which I think I like.

I actually found the knowledge that after so many years, Beth S and Dom were able to make their peace with each other and develop a friendship kind of heartwarming. I wish he would have participated, but I really respect his reasons for not doing it.

Out of all the really bad bands that castmembers were involved in for the first few seasons, Glen's was the worst by a country mile.

I know Beth S is a drama queen, but even as a 15 year old in 1993, I thought Glen was a complete asshole to her for no apparent reason. I can understand 1993 David not understanding Tami's issues with her body. I can (unfortunately) understand 1993 David not having a clear understanding of consent, as we STILL don't talk about it enough. I can understand 1993 David misreading the situation. What I do not understand: 2021 David listened to Jon saw he was ashamed of himself for taking part in it. He listened to Tami basically spill her guts in more detail than she has before--and frankly, more detail than she should have had to. He saw the other women--including Beth A, who wasn't even there for the event--who all looked ill having to watch it again. He heard Tami say that she understood why he had acted the way he did, which was far more gracious than I'd likely be able to manage. And what did he do? Made them watch it again, and laughed the entire time. 1993 David was a stupid kid. 2021 David is an asshole who hasn't learned a damned thing in almost 30 years.

No lie, Kate Bishop is one of my favorite Marvel characters. Hailee Steinfeld is exactly who should be playing her. She's perfect. I'm having a slow day at work thus far, so I'm in my office watching on my laptop. No lie, I squealed "Pizza Dog!" and yelped when the Tracksuit Draculas gave us the first "bro." I am SO glad the door was shut.

No. No to the power of No. The entire point of ME is that it’s your story, not someone else’s.

In the last episode, Jankom mentioned being on a Tellarite sleeper ship. So he might be from a lot further in the past than his chronological age.
-
The Caretaker? That's all I got. We don't know how long the ship was there.

I think--on paper--it should have had me rolling my eyes, but I think it works on both a meta and in-universe level. The Federation is essentially starting from scratch, given that of all the characters we've met, the Vulcans and the Trill symbionts are likely the only ones to remember the pre-Burn galaxy. In a lot of ways, this is the where the United Earth Starfleet was, and I can see wanting to honor that. On a more meta level, as divisive as Enterprise was (including to myself), there are plenty of fans who consider it a beloved and important part of the franchise. It's nice that it can still be a part of the show's legacy, even with its shortcomings.

Very solid episode, and we finally got the crew on the same page. I wish we'd gotten Dal there a little quicker, but he actually acted like the captain this time. Although I don't get why Hologram Janeway needs to ask the computer for things, since presumably she IS the computer.

I didn't get that impression, actually. Nothing she said was unreasonable, and Michael didn't really seem to take offense to it. Unless she's going to give us Secret Villain vibes--which, given that we didn't get that with Vance last year, I doubt--I think she's a great addition. She's clearly a really good politician. Apparently I wasn't the only one verklempt at "Archer's Theme."

Looking at her nose, I believe she's also Bajoran.
