  1. If anyone's keeping track of troupe stuff, besides the 4 who were on GMA (Hayley/Alan/Britt Stewart/Brandon Armstrong), Britney Cherry has also confirmed that she's back in. Dennis (the German dude dating Leona Lewis) has confirmed that he's out. And all 5 of those confirmed troupers are performing at the Beauty and the Beast premier tonight and they have Paul Karmiryan with them, which I hope means he's our 3rd guy. (I like him! I keep thinking he'd make a good pro.)
  2. I think it may be interesting to see which of the "contenders" goes down first. You've got a bunch of dance trained or athletic women, who usually do really well. There's talk of how that stacks it to the female contestant side, but I think you also have a bunch of guys on the men's side that could easily fall into the "charming/affable guy, who is better than he thought he'd be at dancing and everyone likes him because he's so easygoing" sort that usually does well for the men. (See James Hinchcliffe.) I'd put the Cubs guy, the bullrider, and maybe the football player into this bucket. I could easily see them making the finals if they perform well, which would leave out one of our "ringers" earlier than you might expect, round mid-season. I'm curious to see which one it might be. (Simone because she's too similar to Laurie? The 5th Harmony girl because her online fans don't translate? Heather because of dance training backlash? Who falls first?)
  3. If the E article is accurate, they've got Bachelor Nick, Bullrider Bonner, Chris Kattan, Mr. T, and Rashad Jennings confirmed. Which gives us 5 and leaves only one more unspoiled male spot for a Property Brother or someone else. I still think this Shemar was way too hyped about his news for it to be DWTS related, though who knows. The 6th male might come out of nowhere. And if the above pairings are true, and the spoiled women are true, Maks and Artem are going to end up with either Heather or Nancy, who both should be good. My guess is Heather/Maks and Nancy/Artem. Heather feels wasted on Maks but here we are. And Nancy/Artem seems likely to be entertaining, though they might butt heads. My memory of Nancy includes her being kind of a bitch about Oksana Baiul when she lost to her in the Olympics (waiting for Oksana to come out for the medal ceremony, I have a strong memory of a microphone picking up Nancy saying something along the lines of, "what are we waiting for, she's just going to come out here and cry again," in a rather snotty tone.) But it's been a long time, maybe she's mellowed.
  4. New stuff from E: http://www.etonline.com/tv/211588_kym_johnson_returning_for_dwts_season_24_celebrity_pairings_revealed/ They have Mark as OUT. (Good news for Artem fans?) They're also adding Rashad Jennings (running back). Did we have that one already or is that new? They've also got some pairings (but not all) Confirming Sasha/Simone (yay!) Val/Normani (already spoiled) Keo/Charo (didn't we already see this with Chaka Kahn???) Bachelor Nick/Peta Bonner/Sharna Housewife Erika/Gleb
  5. Looks like another plausible option could be actress Cheryl Texiera, who was on Girl Meets World (Shawn Hunter's love interest/Mom of the blond generation 2 Shawn Hunter girl) and also the first season of SYTYCD. Though googling her SYTYCD audition turns up a little bit less than impressive skills, and a claim that at that point she was a small town waitress with only 2 years dance experience. (I'm guessing the SYTYCD bar was a little lower S1). So not that big a ringer and not that well known, the only thing making me think it's possible is the Disney/ABC connection.
  6. What do we think of this rumor? Courtney from Pure is claiming there might be a "star" who was once a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance, claiming them as the biggest ringer there's ever been. Not necessarily best known for SYTYCD but had appeared. The only person I can think of that might match this description would be Heather Morris of Glee, who was cut in the Vegas rounds of, I think, season 2. I can't think of anyone else who has an association with that show that could claim any sort of career outside of "professional dancer." Maybe, maaaaybe you could call someone like Domenic Sandoval a YouTuber, but dude also just won a dance Emmy last year. So I don't think so. (Fun fact about Dom, he seems to be currently dating former DWTS contenstant Bethany Mota.) Any other obscure SYTYCD contestants who have gotten themselves any sort of noteworthy recognition as an actor, singer or social media star?
  7. Had a feeling about Keo. His Instagramming was way too excited for him to be back in the troupe. Artem hasn't left too much of an impression on me one way or another, so I wouldn't be too sad if he were out. I could also see Mark sitting this one out to pursue more music, and trolling the Twitter fans with his random posts. We shall see. This Shemar sure is bootiful, but if DWTS is his "big, groundbreaking, life changing, you'll see it everywhere" news, he's got real high hopes for what this show does for your career. Don't get me wrong, no shame in it, I just don't know that it catapults you to the heights he seems to be implying. I'm supportive of this if it happens though. (I mean, bootiful.) The Property Brothers always remind me of androids their programmers got about 95% of the way up to human speed, but just that liiiitle bit off on full human interaction skills. Or aliens that are trying their hardest to assimilate, but just can't quite grasp the full nuances. Man that video is awkward. I hope he's on for some awkward, awkward lolz.
  8. Keo has been doing some vague Instagramming (vaguestagramming?) of excitement in the last day or so, which could point to his return. An excited face selfie with "you don't even know!!") as the caption. Mark has also popped up with some vague Twittering, though his excitement could always point to another project, I suppose. From my perspective, I don't really see the point of both an Artem and a Gleb, they seem to be competing for the same spot (stoic sexy Russians) and haven't done too much to distinguish themselves. I've been hard on Keo in the past but find myself not too upset if he gets another shot.
  9. Geraldo and Bristol Palin would be the other ones that come to mind, with Sadie as a tangential because of her grandfather. But people "boycott" the show for all sorts of reasons, including "celebrities who are too young" and "dances that are too sexy" so it's not all that surprising to me, the notable thing was Toms response. From an interview Deena and Rob gave before it was announced Rob was leaving, they said they were looking for "feel good" participants, which beyond potentially divisive political choices makes me hope for less of the "controversial" Real Housewife-esque contestants as well.
  10. A hint I noticed from Tom's Twitter (and I'm going to try to do this without getting political, which if you've seen Tom's Twitter is a bit hard, BUT.) Someone replied to his post about the cast announcement with something along the lines of, "Haven't watched in years because of (contestants connected to a specific political party)" and he replied "It's safe to come back *winkyface*" Which makes me think we're safe from Billy Bush. Well that and the fact that Deena Katz organized the LA women's march, which makes me think she'd draw the line at the specific scandal surrounding Bush.
  11. Re: rumors, I thought this was interesting. All the usual suspects with "inside information" have definitely been pretty quiet, looks like this would be why. https://mobile.twitter.com/KristynBurtt/status/834070056749240320
  12. Ah! I didn't know this. I guess that makes more sense why they were so happy to let Maks & Val promote it on the show, and how Derek & Julianne were able to incorporate DWTS dances into the Move show. (I had sorta wondered how those intellectual property rights all shook out.)
  13. Though this is a funny quote now (from last fall) http://www.tvguide.com/news/maksim-chmerkovskiy-leaving-dancing-with-the-stars/ Dude just needs to learn to keep his trap shut. Talk less, smile more, Maks.
  14. Maks also did his Maks and Val tour last summer. I don't know where they broke on that one, if they made or lost money, but he has done more than "just Sway." I've also seen them posting about expanding their dance studios. Dunno how much THAT brings in, considering I've known people who have opened yoga studios and that's a tough thing to break even on, but they have expanded them. Peta also has a skincare line (again, not sure how it does but an iron in the fire.) (Hey, look at me defending Maks and I don't even particularly care for 'im. ;)
  15. Yeah, same. I don't really dislike anyone but the only thing that might make me sit up on the pro side would be some sort of fresh blood. Especially on the guys side, it's been made even worse that they all seem to be competing for the same "smoldering Russian dude" archetype. Which, fine, but they're all sort of blending together into the same romance cover dude. (Even Alan, seems to be trying for "baby smoldering guy" when I almost think he'd be better embracing "goofy kid" just to be different.) I still think Paul Karmeryon as a charming boy next door type would be great. The women's side has more interest to me as you've got Lindsey out there delivering consistently fun stuff. Sharna can bring the creativity. Peta has been hit or miss for me but I don't really mind her back. I just hope this doesn't leave Emma out, she seems consistently on the bubble and would likely be the only one I'd miss. I might miss Jenna's crotch fringe, just because that was entertaining. I've moved into finding her "Dance Tracy Flick" antics sort of entertaining to watch.
  16. New Rob Wade interview http://www.glamour.com/story/dancing-with-the-stars-season-24-nick-viall?mbid=social_twitter_referral Highlights: Premeire date is March 20 On Pros: Derek is for sure out, because of the tour he and Julianne are doing, though Julianne still might judge because it's a lesser commitment. Mark has expressed interest in returning after Jersey Boys, but is not confirmed, Maks and Peta have invitations back if they want them and feel ready after the baby. He thinks "everyone else is coming back" (So sounds like no big pro shakeups) On Stars: Casting is "52 percent" finished. From the casting director (Hopefully this means less Real Housewives, but also hopefully less former governors)
  17. But maybe don't "quote" me and then change the text of that quote to be something I didn't say, yeah?
  18. Hmmm...I'm feeling in for a bit of a shake-up, and like it's time for a lot of the old standards to graduate or take a break, especially on the men's side. So in that realm, I'm gonna say I want Mark, Derek, Maks, Tony, to move on. (Derek and Maks are out anyway, Mark could come back but I kind of want other things for him. Peta is realistically going to be out for one more season.) Male: Sasha Artem Paul Karmiryan (He seems great! Why hasn't this been a thing yet?) give Alan a chance maybe one more season of Val new blood, or I could give Keo one more shot, maybe Female: Lindsay Sharna Emma give Jenna another shot Cheryl Oti, stolen from Strictly Troupe: Hayley (She pops for me too, but she still gets super camera shy whenever they ask her to speak), Brittany Cherry, Brit (same female lineup from last season) Shannon, (Keo or new blood), New blood Going to do the Jidges too: Louis (He's been doing show notes on Twitter, and I've liked his insights) Shirley Ballas (to take the place of Len) Julianne (I know I'm in the minority, but I like her here)
  19. I know this is the Derek thread, but Val's been hinting at thinking about moving on as well. Would be interesting to see what it would look like if he did - it might be an interesting time for a changing of the guard.
  20. Official word is that Broadway is theater locked for an indefinite period of time, with a long list of shows waiting for theaters to open up. Who knows though, but I would guess that's not happening until late 2017 at the earliest, if it doesn't get kiboshed. Harvey Weinstein's made an effort already of promoting it though which makes me think it wouldn't get killed completely. I think it's funny when people claim Derek only knows ballroom though, he's pretty cross trained with all his theater school background. And I'd imagine judging that show will be like judging Americas Got Talent. I mean, didn't JC Chasez judge Americas Next Dance Crew?
  21. Derek to be a judge on JLo's World of Dance: http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/world-of-dance-derek-hough-neyo-jennifer-lopez-judges-1201928896/ (I'm guessing that means he's out for more DWTS? Though I never know anymore.)
  22. Mark submitted. He was bummed he didn't get the nomination, there were tweets about it. There's a nomination event where they show a montage of submitted pieces, I remember Kristyn Burtt giving a recap of the last one on Twitter. They almost all submit, the last one had submissions from Val, Keo, Mark, Peta, Sharna, probably more. ETA: Found the link. All the pros are listed on submissions http://www.dancedishwithkb.com/single-post/2016/08/28/A-PartialLook-Inside-The-Emmys-Choreography-Submissions
  23. I think I remember Sharna answering this once. They are allowed outside choreographers at any time, the only thing they can't do is offload the actual teaching of the dance.
  24. If it was pre-recorded it was pre-recorded the same day, Derek was in several of the cast's social media from the day of the finale. I don't know about Amber, but I really think Derek just couldn't rehearse any of the numbers so they didn't put him in them. The rest of the cast (at least the troupe) was pulling 10-12 hour days the whole week leading up to the finale, while he had a bunch of Hairspray stuff, including pre-filming that spot in the Macy's parade, and then rehearsals and filming that Disney special which involved a trip to Orlando. Potentially he came for the opening and had to jet to another commitment? Presumably he might have also had to negotiate time off from his other projects to make time for Mark's wedding activities so he could have had to pack in more than usual before.
  25. Well, it's half sweet (we want everyone to be in the moment and not on their phones) and half entrepreneurial (it's harder to sell an exclusive to People magazine if all your guests give away the photos for free.) Probably a little of column A and column B, both are nice side benefits of each other. (No judgment, if I could get People to pay for my wedding I probably would too.)
