The Bletchley Circle - General Discussion
Catherinewriter replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Bletchley Circle
Stirling is every bit as beautiful as her mother was in her day. And without makeup! When she came out of captivity she was very pale, without makeup (unless she had makeup on to suggest that she had no makeup on!). I agree, I miss the use of skills they had in the first series. I was expecting Millie to do the "Right, Left, estimated distance, bridge, river horn") thing that I've seen people do in other thrillers, to be able to trace back where they came from when they can't see outside the vehicle. And bad news about the cancellation. The responses here suggest that the publicity has really fallen down on this series. They couldn't have given it more time? Also true for "The Hour." Poor Jasper. Note to self: Learn to proofread. -
S04.E05: First Of His Name 2014.05.04
Catherinewriter replied to Skywarpgold's topic in Game Of Thrones
Come back, Tyrion. Regarding the Lannisters being out of money, Davos has something in mind, doesn't he? Remember the last episode in which he's reading something and then quickly gets Shireen to write a letter to the (whatever) Bank? What does he know, or suspect? -
Well, damn. I don't recall seeing it but now that I know about it I can't not know it!
-
So the writer credits were a way to give writers more income, or more exposure, or what? Whatever the answer, seems to me to be more than a little fraudulent, no?
-
Color me confused. I know Milch was the producer, but he actually wrote very few of the scripts, according to the list. Or did he redo them all after they'd been written?

Hot!! Hot!! Burned my snatch!! Speaking of bathing, where is the bath house? There have been several characters who wanted to bathe, but I've seen tubs only in the room in which Al played off the two drug thieves against each other and then drowned one of them, and Joanie apparently has one at the Chez Amis. I don't think the creek is deep enough to serve for bathing. Anyone have any info? Where do the prostitutes bathe? And speaking of bathing, where do they get the water? Carry it from the creek? Of all the elements of life in Deadwood, the one that would militate against my being able to exist there would be not being able to be clean.

Willowy, which show is Matt Saracen in? Thanks

Merrick: All the News that's Fit to Print
Catherinewriter replied to Catherinewriter's topic in Deadwood [V]
Yes, the walkers club, that was lovely. I hope nothing happens to him next season. -
Assholes assume the right to be such, non regarding the likes or dislikes of others. They are assholes by choice.
-
Really, you have all the figures from the Buffyverse? Cool. Are there any from Deadwood out there apart from the two pictured here. Probably now. Unlikely that Deadwood saga would make for very appropriate "Happy Meals" figurines. Their loss.
-
Jeffrey Jones does a splendid job with Merrick, even though his role isn't particularly sexy, dangerous, or funny. I really feel his excitement when he's putting out the paper, and wonder what it would have been like to be at the forefront of printing daily tabloids or whatever passed for newspapers then.
-
Thanks for the link, Willowy. And fuckety fuck fuck. I've heard that many folks have problems with Milch, including, way back, Jimmy Smits on NYPD Blue.
-
I didn't have HBO for Treme. But I'm hoping it will reair sometime soon, as Kim is in that, I think, in a major way.

Joanie needs some attention here, so I'll ring in. Her relationship with Cy is one of the most puzzling of the series, at least to me. I know, he presumably "loves" her, but spends so much time tearing her down. And she is often so uncertain about what she's doing. I want more of Jane and Joanie in a friendship. I love it when the camera pans over Deadwood and the only person you can for sure make out is Joanie in her hat with the flowing scarf.

Oh, William, we hardly knew ya. But what we did was wonderful. May you find that trout in a pool in heaven. The actor has only been in one other show, according to IMDB - "Numbers." A shame, since he had a terrific presence. Did anyone else find it strange that neither Martha nor Seth held him, or at least held his hands while they were keeping watch? Was there a strain of Victorian behavior in the late 1800s that kept people from being physical with one another (except for the constant brawling, of course)? By the way, does anyone know what happened to Eddie. The last time I saw him he was apologizing to Cy (perhaps not sincerely) about his behavior after Cy killed the two con kids, and then suddenly there was someone else at the gaming table. Did I miss something. I liked the character.
-
Walnut Queen, that's a good point about Jane and her courage or absence of it. REALLY bad men. Which explains why she's just as likely to punch out many of the other not-as-bad men characters, or even the ones she "likes," such as Charlie, as listen to them. Be brief. Be fucked.

S10.E22: We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
Catherinewriter replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Grey's Anatomy
Agree with everyone who's mentioned how it defies credulity that Christina wouldn't have known where Burke was and what he was doing (even if just professionally.) So no matter whose name was on her invite, she'd have understood where it came from. Too bad that in an otherwise not bad episode, this plot glitch stood out like an MI. I didn't see anything except the last few minutes of the Season 3 ep, but wow I teared up at seeing George and Lexie. And others have mentioned the presence of Addison. So do miss those years. Do people know Addison is on "Fargo" - FX on Tuesday eves? -
Jane goes back and forth in terms of courage. She was courageous when accompanying Bullock and Charlie to Al's to recover Bullock's gun, she was courageous in caring for the plague victims. But when she has a chance to plug Wolcott to keep him from killing Joanie, she freezes. So Joanie takes care of herself. And the next morning finds Jane lying on her doorstep, armed, to watch over her friend. Admits she's "after the fact." Oh, Jane. I suppose courage after the fact is better than no courage at all. God, I love this character.

Off topic to Radiant AerynSun: I miss your show, so much. Leave Hodor the f--k alone! This means all of you! Re the scene between Margaery and Tommen: I thought at first we were seeing shoddy camera work at the end there, but on a rewatch I see a true POV shot. There's something going on under the bed. Who has it in for Tommen?
-
I fear he's going to have to take the blame for William's accident. Too bad, because he's not a bad guy.
-
Okay, good. I couldn't tell from his physical response what he'd decided. And since it was clear he couldn't give a f--k, I was afraid he'd blown Doc off.
-
Methinks me'd rather have the real things. Me does.

Seth Bullock: Canadian Born Frontier Badass
Catherinewriter replied to Wilowy's topic in Deadwood [V]
I don't remember where, if ever, Bullock and Alma agreed to end their affair. It seems to me that they simply didn't show up in each other's company again to leave town, and that was that. And Bullock says to Martha that there's been no contact since she came to town, so that seems pretty concrete. -
At Bill's grave, his desperation about Jane is so heartbreaking. He just doesn't know what to do for her, and yet he promised Bill he'd look after her, and of course his own decency would have led him to do it anyway. Broke my heart.
-
I was confused by the end of this scene. Did Cy agree to let Doc treat the Chinese women, or not? This arc is so, so painful, as I'm sure it was to the real women. And I wonder why people such as Jane and Joanie didn't take steps to alleviate some of the women's pain. God, what a life.
