Yep, had many friends myself who's parents were like that, but then had an aunt or uncle or even a 2nd cousin who was very attractive or they looked like them. So, I have no problem with Manny's parents being that attractive and he looks like that. I just think it was 9 years too late for this.

Perfectly said. I'm a watcher of Fuller House, but they did pay attention to those details, I'm talking small ones and the main story lines from years ago. Because it was what MADE the characters. Here, they basically said: "We have to make these stories work, so we will right it any way want to." I also call foul not only on the adoption agency with saying Jackie was too old to have a dog, but also the doctor saying: "For 33, you have eggs of a much, much older woman." I wanted him to spill the news and say: "You can lie all you want, but you might not look it, but your body is 43, not 33." Because they will know from testing if a patient is lying about their age. There are factors that tell a woman's fertility rate and how it ties in with their age. Basically the doctor said that Becky has had problems for years, but no one knew since Mark died and she gave up on things.

I loved Buck too. Growing with dogs myself, I always thought I would own one, but yes they can be a pain and yes, they can cost money to where you have kid 2 or kid 3 or 6 on this show. However, it's a family commitment and if one person is against, then it's a no go. It's just they did all this with the dog and Dre and Junior were perfectly showing why having a dog isn't the best idea. Then you add in these constant: "It's funny that no one pays attention to the baby" on going joke all year. Which just shows that the writers don't know what to with the baby and it makes Bow not working even more stupid then add in the nanny that was hired and then never seen again. If Junior does leave the show at the end of the year, there is still plenty with the twins, but at the same time. They think they it's cute to use Demonte when they want to enforce their "no one is watching the baby, OMG!" then the writers are out of ideas. Not to say spoilers, but if next week they are going to focus an entire story with Dre and Bow questioning after over 20 years of splitting up, I'm calling foul. They have both done extremely stupid things I'm surprise they haven't split up by now.

My problem is, their "problems" stem from Martin just not wanting to do anything and just like "not trying" for things. He was comfortable, and I mean as he enjoyed Lena doing everything, he stayed the fun dad and just worked and paid the bills. Even went out with his friends. What the hell possessed him for 2 years to not only not have sex with his wife but apparently avoid seeing her undressing or naked for 2 years doesn't make sense. Same goes with Lena, she is controlling, but really she couldn't go: "Why the hell aren't we having sex?" "Why do you try to not see me getting dressed or naked in any shape or form." We know from these few episodes they had their single years and then got together, married, had kids, ect. Apparently though Martin got it in his head: "Lena likes to do things her way or the high way, so I won't do anything." I mean he acts like outside getting dress, he doesn't know how to clean, he is oblivious to obvious things and if he was left in an apartment by himself, he might be eaten by bugs because he only knows how to make sandwiches or a can of soup. Meanwhile, Lena is: "We aren't having sex, he expects me to do everything, he even avoids seeing me naked, ect." tells her friends and everyone, but won't confront Martin at all until it's 2 years later? Doesn't work.
-
That's exactly it. 2 years is way, way too long. If it had been over a year, then I could see it. However, at this point, outside not able to live on their own (yet can go to dance lessons, field trips, ect.). The premise is having problems staying to the rest of the episodes. Also, that's how you "scrub" a house? I didn't see her pushing in her finger tips or anything her proper cleaning was like how fast you clean a table at steak and shake.
-
I know, I actually completely got Dre's side no problem. Even his coming around, but it's not funny having a baby just there no one watching them. I'm sorry writers, it was your BIG idea to do another baby and half the time you either ignore the kid exists or do things like this.
-
That is the problem. We see more of Bow and Zoey have more agreements than problems or clashes over the series. While with Junior, Dre has said and done some very mean things to Junior. While Junior has done very naive and at times very stupid things (the sharing showers idea or stock marketing based on Zoey's likes without making sure she didn't find out). Then you get things like bringing his grades up, taking care of the twins and Demonte and yes, even getting items working in the house. Yet, Dre only high fives Junior when he finally has sex with someone that his parents really didn't like to begin with. Because you know "right of passage". It goes too far at time, even with the times that Bow treats Zoey. It's played for laughs and when it is acknowledged by other characters doesn't make it right. Just makes it more poorly written. Same with Dre's office, seriously, anyone else would have left a long time ago, because if Dre has been making all this money and so forth. Any other company would have taken him and Charlie a long time ago.

I hate it when parents say: "I'm babysitting my kids." No, you are PARENTING your kids.
-
I agree, why lots of writers and creators leave series. They do the: "You can't do that because it's ______" then they turn around and the exact opposite happens on another show on the same network. Who answer to the same people. Because you know: "Roseanne is more important than your show."

General Discussion: You Exist Here
readster replied to ShadowDenizen's topic in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine [V]
Completely agree. I do say that was where Winn really turned her back on The Prophets. She was the Kai, she suffered and did so much to be that Kai and yet what happened? The Prophets didn't even give her the time of day and outside her vizier, no one trusted her. But as we know, people never see their own faults on why they are treated or viewed that way. They just are: "I'm right and you are wrong." -
Yes and shows like Gilmore Girls and Last Man Standing made floor layouts so twisted and turned you wanted to go: "What if I put a hole in one of the walls, will I get a magical work out room?"

Something that Black-ish and My Wife and Kids did twenty years is have it where the parents HAD to be right about their kids and when the kids weren't reminded about THE RULES, bad things happen. Then when they prove everyone wrong, they have to be once again told: "You are wrong and I'm right." Of course, both Bow and Dre's parents are exactly the same way and they continue to let them get away with that. That's what does frustrates me with shows that do that and then go: "But real people are like that too." Yes, but eventually kids learn, especially after they are on their own and have their own kids, NOT to do those same things. Example is my wife, she sadly listen to her dad about things several times because she felt he had scarified so much for her growing up, she HAD to listen to even his half-ass advice, that he never really did himself. Until our finances and other things took a nose dive and now she just agrees with him and doesn't do it after he leaves. Yet, the damage is done and he knows he caused it, but will he ever admit he was wrong? Of course not, which is as realistic as I find Bow and Dre, Ruby and Pops on this. They get proven wrong, but don't want to bruise their pride, so they look for reasons to spin it. Just like Dre's agency or the hospital that Bow use to work at. Talk about the "bad bosses" to the T and it's not funny, because they be out of work or sued so many times, they be living on the street. But its suppose to be FUNNY.

It's more common than you think. Being in education, I've seen it left and right and no excuses from poor diet or emotional stress. I've seen very over weight people have extremely attractive children and vice versa. Even ones that say: "I looked like that their age, and now look at me." I just felt that after 9 years, this joke was a little too late.
-
I know what you mean, my son doesn't say that at all. He just goes: "Dad is is doing his 'dad stuff'." I cook and clean, do laundry and there are many co-workers of my wife who say: "Can we switch husbands?" Sad to say how stereotypes still exist, but many men and women do still fall into that category. In this case I just wanted to go: "Of course, because Martin was shown and talked about how he is a "man" that is why he can't do laundry. Cook, clean or avoided seeing his Lena naked for over 2 years. Because you know, he's a guy who doesn't know better. They depict him as a typical teen who has a helicopter parent who knows how to google something, but doesn't know how to make a grill cheese sandwich.

He did mention though he could also do Juiliard too as a back up because he found out he actually liked ballet.

Exactly and then to see that neither Jimmy or Maya were up to date on things and even the half ass explanation of the principal. It just doesn't work, it comes off as bad writing. This isn't like a guidance counselor said: "Yes, we have 4 kids that are always distributive or causing trouble together, but there is only one class that they are required to take, so we'll just hope for the best and the teacher doesn't have a melt down." Which happens at a lot of schools, they feel they can just kill two birds with one stone. This was a: "Duh... we have to make it so there is a reason Kenny stays on the show and we don't know how to write JJ in college, so let's keep in high school one more year until we figure it out." Just like how they said they didn't want to lose the "crappy house" for the family, but they wanted to have a cliffhanger and since the dog was going to be the foil for it and the had set it up. It came off as just bad writing.

I know and it's been brought before even with Lily said last season she just started wearing one and even talked about how she didn't know if she was looking old enough like the other girls. It makes them look way too oblivious. Even when they were trying to do the "fake talk" at school to figure out what was going on.
-
How true and it would make perfect sense. Even an account number. I agree earlier, something left to them, nothing that is going to transform them with an instant windfall, but maybe a small trust fund for Oliver when he turns 18 or money that HAS to go to a college or business or trade school. No debt and would actually make things better for Katie and Greg not worrying about schooling for the kids. After all, Oliver still wants to go to Julliard.
-
Lilly being so under used this season has been so glaring. Then to have something like this with the entire bra situation would have worked if: 1. they wouldn't talked about several times last year that she had entered puberty. 2. The entire "spa party" where it was mentioned how not only they were older girls, but how Cam and Mitch were so out of touch on things. 3. That Lily was being asked to skip a grade and they wanted to be more focused on her. Instead Lily has been ignored to the point to where would a adoption agency ever agreed on such self-absorbed and oblivious couple. As for the Manny story, that was funny and basically was giving an answer: "No, Manny just had a bad spin of genetics for how he is." At the same time, I'm glad that both Jay and Manny were: "Wait, you are right, he does look and act like me." Even if it took Manny seeing the fake DNA test to get it. He is so oblivious to things to the point of Cam and Mitch.
-
In a way, I'm glad that Oliver didn't really get anything in the end. His whole agenda was to get Spencer to leave him his money and have Oliver's warped dream of: "Happy Rich Life" come true. He came to care about Spencer that's for sure, but in the end. He got the lesson he really needed to get, just like Taylor with her new friends ditching her.

That would be a major issue to go that dark. Like many have said, them being kicked out the way they were in the real world would have raised a lot of issues. Of course we were suppose to believe they didn't know about JJ's academics because: "No one talks to anyone at the school." If they get a season 3 and they are magically back in the house, then they need to tell the premiere in flashbacks. However, they better not find another stupid reason to keep JJ in high school another year.

That really, really bothered me. Forget the politics or "It's the only title I have" from Jackie. Even's Dan: "I wrote a poem for my dad and he hit me with a broom." That didn't come off as funny or anything. Now, granted being an educator and seeing how some kids are because really, their parents do tell them to: "Go think about it." or "Just course by in life, we did ok." Gives kids the wrong message, but after we were hit over the head on Roseanne and Jackie's home life and how it even tied in with Mark and David home life. To see Roseanne say those things just didn't work. Though I agree, if I would have said the things Harris said to my grandparents, and I do mean any of them, I would be hiding under the stairs with my toys. Because my grandparents didn't hit me and neither did my parents. However, my grandmother was notorious for taking a favorite toy when one of us grand kids got out of line and destroying it in front of us. I still have horrible memories of an old Lehand Drugs mini ball I kept bouncing and was told to stop. She told me to stop or she get a knife and slice the ball apart. I didn't because I was 4 and didn't think she do that and guess what? She did. After that I took those threats serious, but my grandparents realized destroying a favorite toy was much more en forceful than hitting a kid.

I can't get that Martin is that "old fashion" he doesn't know how to do laundry or that Lena would have left no laundry finished. Of course, we are suppose to believe that Martin while not having sex with Lena in 2 years never saw her getting undress or ready for bed or going to take a shower. As she put it: "The squirrel is the only man to see me naked in 2 years." They keep acting like neither one of them have common sense or it only works when the plot needs to point it out. Martin realizes a comforter in a humid garage in the middle of California is too warm. Yet, he doesn't know how to do laundry? Or Lena knows the dehumidifier needs to be on in the garage to avoid insects and other problems. Yet, can't realize she is going to be too hot with a thick bed blanket or knowing Martin doesn't do or wants to do laundry because he's sexist at times so leaves nothing for the kids? Ummm... huh? This a great cast of characters and comedic timing, but the plot has to not make sense to get the story from point A to B.

S10.E01: Twenty Years to Life / S10.E02: Dress to Impress
readster replied to tessaray's topic in Roseanne [V]
Becky while seaming in character, apparently was: "I can't waste my life in Landford and if you leave Mark, I'm going with you." When she didn't for one second go: "You know, I can take out student loans, I can go to community or Mark could have said: "Let's not be my parents and leap before we look." But not Becky, as much as it was previous established since season 2 how quickly she can just go emotional and not think first. Once they did that and leading to Sarah Chalk's portrayal of the character. It has been pretty much shown that Becky is now paying for things. As they say: "Mom and Dad were right!" As for David, he pretty much realized he needed to move on, and yes he was always smarter than Mark, but unlike Mark he didn't try to get away from his mother when his father took their younger siblings and took off (though that still bothers me to this day). David was a very gifted artist and good with computers, I could see him going into graphic design or IT as you mentioned. -
I know what you mean, I even read about upcoming episodes and I went: "Oh great, talk about the problems in the pilot and then not bring them up again until towards the end again." Like I said earlier, I'm not happy with the dad being treated as: "he's the fun dad, but clueless and acts like a big kid himself" joke. I mean the dehumidifier joke was funny, but after the wife rant at the end. I was thinking: "I feel sorry for her, but really? They want to go with the he has ignored me to the point he hasn't seen me naked or slept with me in years?"
