  1. I read this as Jell-O Whip 'n Chili, probably because I thought the glop looked as though it contained some black beans. Then I legit had to follow the link to make sure that wasn't an actual thing! Sometimes my mind goes in terribly gullible directions.
  2. All those gaping plot holes do take me out of the stories, to a point, but having binged last season, then having gotten as far as this episode over the past few days, I have come to the conclusion that they are, in a way, part of the charm. They give the show a certain innocence which seems to be lost in today's entertainment and, to me, heightens the retro feel. For each instance of being taken out of the story, whether by plot holes, toss-off lines which feel as though they should be coming out of a cartoon character, or even Seth's limits as an actor (because, so often, he just looks as though there is a twinkle in his eye that just says he is just getting such a kick out of getting to be a starship captain and have such a huge cosplay set for his amusement)...it all adds up to a sort of fuzzy feel-good aura for that moment, and you forgive the interruption in narrative. Then the whole thing mostly just manages to add up to an enjoyable episode complete with moments of actual depth and feeling. It's really hard to explain, but so far I am enjoying this more than I ever enjoyed any of the other Star Trek incarnations beyond the original series.
  3. Sorry to see that season one topics got eaten. I am just beginning to watch The Orville, and am three episodes in. Came here to see whether there were any thoughts on About a Girl because, though I do agree that it was very uneven, it seemed that between the plotline and the execution, it might have sparked some discussion. In any event, the whole premise of the show and the characters are very appealing so far. I've sort of meant to give it a watch for years, but never got around to it. If anyone has any more thoughts on season one and the episodes, I'd love to read them!
  4. I'm a bit late in realizing the season already started, but since I really know very little about dance other than I love to watch it and am mostly impressed by anyone who manages to not trip over their own feet, it probably doesn't matter what I say or when I say it. I really liked Konnor, and anticipate him being around for a long time. It will be interesting to see how the African guy's style translates to other genres, but he seems to have amazing control, and stage presence for days, so I'll be optimistic that he will be able to branch out. The quirky girl in the black and white striped outfit was really striking, and never let your attention waver. So much so that I have a slight worry that she will end up with a "look at me" vibe that might get a bit tiresome. But overall, I was definitely impressed. Was glad the Russian girl didn't get through, though it would be nice to see whether she has what it takes to brush up her technique and add to her performance repertoire. But if she never comes back I doubt I'll notice. The ballroom couple were good, and I was rather disappointed that they picked her and not him. Even though I'll admit that she looked a bit better technically, I thought he had better presence, and plenty enough potential to take a chance on sending him to choreography. They did spend too much time on spins that didn't show off enough other technique, though, so if they thought the spins were the best thing in their bag of tricks, they probably wouldn't have made it too far overall. The last girl (did I miss anyone else?) was OK, but I did feel a bit as though she got through on the strength of her message moreso than her dance. I'll admit to her genre not being my favorite, though, so unless someone does some truly spectacular moves in it, there's a lot of subtlety I probably miss. She did exhibit a lot of emotion, though, so there's that. Not sure I can see her branching out to a lot of other styles, though. I do wish there had been less back stories and more focus on dance, because I feel as though we missed some pretty good auditions judging by the ones they flashed through. The tapper and the Asian kid with his hair parted in the middle caught my eye, but there were others that looked as though they were probably good, but there was no time to even remember them individually. As far as the judges, I'm OK with JoJo; she's cute and enthusiastic, and does seem willing to critique, unlike some we have seen over the years. And I'll admit that I love glitter way more than I should at my age, so all her sparkliness just appealed to the magpie in me. Love tWitch, as always, and Matthew Morrison seems as though he'll be fine, if a little low-key. Count me in with those who kind of miss Nigel, though. For all his faults, his passion for dance and for the show really made it special.
  5. Yeah, but look at the male Rodlings. For all we know, training them to fast begins in infancy...
  6. I like the white kitchen. We have been wanting to do ours over in white for the almost 10 years we have been here now, but other projects keep getting priority. Ah, well... All white kitchens may be waning a little in popularity, but I do think that they will always fall into the "classic" category, and never go completely out of style.
  7. He's built rather like my grandson who is about 2-3 weeks younger. The doctor says he's quite tall for his age, but his weight is in the 14th percentile. He's not necessarily concerned, though. My grandson is a very active baby who has just started doing the combat-style crawl, so I guess he's burning through a lot of calories. I do remember my daughter being much the same way at that age; very wiry and active. I hope they are letting Nemo crawl and explore, and he is also just burning off a lot of calories, not subjecting him to blanket training and not trying to purposefully keep him "slim". Though I wouldn't put it past them.
  8. Hmmm...I don't know. I kinda feel that if there was any indication in that photo that there was something there to be envious of, Jill wouldn't be able to err on the side of not showing off her hunka burnin' love ...(excuse me while I vomit. The brain bleach wasn't strong enough to block that mental image).
  9. How would that work in an instance of, for example, pointing out David R's size vs that of his children? I would take this directly to a mod for clarification, but I suspect it's a bit of the sort of grey area which might need its own guidelines, and which a lot of us might be curious about.
  10. The only thing about donating bee hives is the cost involved in making them successful. We have around 7-8 hives. They require supplemental feeding during some parts of the year that an run into about 25 lb of sugar every couple of weeks, plus commercial pollen patties. Not to mention treatments for mites and other things that can infest hives. It's important to keep a close eye on the inner workings of the hive to make sure the queen is healthy and working efficiently. If anything goes wrong with her, it's best to purchase a new queen (around $45) as the natural process of having the hive raise a new queen can be risky (the queen may not survive her maiden flight, and the whole process takes about six weeks, which, if there is no queen in place to lay eggs, can devastate a hive). Even with the best hive management, these days it's not unusual to have 50-75% hive mortality every year, so those hives have to be replaced, which is also not cheap. Then there is the honey itself. We have had to leave all the honey the bees have produced for the past 3 harvest seasons (spring and fall) I the hives for the bees' use. So it's an expensive hoppy without the guarantee of anything in the way of profit. This year is looking pretty good so far, so fingers crossed that we will have a decent harvest in June. By the way, interesting to hear about all the badges/awards going out! I've been here 8 years (when did THAT happen?), And didn't get anything. Maybe it's due to the violation I got two an a half years ago which was supposed to be removed after 6 months of good behavior. 😄
  11. I think Hannah has a certain "type" of face with slightly sharp features which may be read as plain or beautiful. She sort of reminds me of someone, I think, and I find her face quite attractive in a slightly offbeat way.
  12. Not Milo...that's my new(ish) grandson's name, and I don't relish seeing it attached to a Duggar.
  13. She's around. She just commented on some photos I posted of spring flowers in my garden. She also just had what appeared to be a very enjoyable birthday a couple of days ago. 🙂
  14. Our semi-feral "PorchCat" has not come home for the past three days. She showed up here as an older kitten (about 6-9 months old) about 3 years ago, and has been a fixture here since, being invaluable in keeping rabbits and other critters out of the vegetable gardens. We put a shelter out on the deck for her in the wintertime, and she suns herself in favorite spots. She's never come indoors as our other cat has still not even altogether accepted her being outside on the other side of the door. It took a good six months for her to even let us close to her, but eventually she did get to where she would consent to be petted for short periods of time, but only up on the deck where she feels more or less completely secure, and pretty much only by Mr. Jyn. But she does follow us around when we walk around checking things out in the backyard. She must have belonged to someone at some point, though, because it appears that she must have been spayed, since she's never come into heat or had any kittens since being here. We tried to trap her to take her to the vet early on, but had no luck, and since kittens did not appear to be an issue, we've just sort of let her be, only trying to put the occasional flea/tick treatment on the back of her neck when we can. Our area does have its share of coyotes, and even the occasional bobcat, so we always knew that outdoor cats didn't really have much chance of a very long lifespan, and she always did like to wander around in quite a large area, including the fields across the street, where we often hear coyotes quite close (sometimes even crossing the road into our yard during the night). Anyway, she's gone missing for a day or two a couple of times in the past, but this time I'm getting a really bad feeling that she won't be coming back. And although I can't say I'm terribly attached to her, per se, I'm just distraught over the idea of her being out there somewhere hurt and confused, dying all alone. Whatever happened to her, I hope she didn't suffer. 😥
  15. It kind of seems as though BME believes that vitamins are all a kid needs to grow up healthy. Hey, as long as they get their vitamins, who needs actual meals? Probably works out cheaper in the long run, too.
  16. And THIS! I was actually going to add something along those lines. I can totally see him alternating between a frighteningly obsequious affect, and snapping with no provocation or warning.
  17. I'd say more "scarily creepy", but whichever way around you put it, it's still a disturbing prospect.
  18. I recall some posts of Ben's artwork back in the courting days. There was a horse drawing which was quite well done. Maybe Henry showed some interest. I'd really like to see some kid drawings posted - I just love children's art!
  19. Well, to be fair, the Noah's ark story is really one of global genocide if you actually think about it. I definitely found it quite disturbing, even as a kid.
  20. I feel for those of you with skin that reacts to adhesives and such. My skin doesn't seem to care much what I do to it, but a month of wearing that heart monitor did give me some little welts that got annoyingly itchy, so I can imagine how horrible it would be if you have sensitive skin. Speaking of the monitors, I don't know whether the ones you get will take as long to recharge as mine did, but be forwarned. The pamphlet I had said that they "could take up to 90 minutes", but after my charger never got to a green light after three or four hours, the, of course, did not hold the charge for more than a couple of days, I called the company to tell them I thought there was something wrong with it, and that I would run out of the replacement patches at that rate. They did send more patches which arrived via next-day mail, but was also told, very nonchalantly, "yeah, I know it says 90 minutes, but they generally take at least four hours". Mine took a little over 6 hours each time I recharged it after that, but it did hold the charge for the 5 days it was supposed to, so I had more than enough patches to last.
  21. Looking at that top picture, I can see myself picking out a similar outfit/accessories. Then I can see myself actually looking in the mirror and SEVERELY paring the whole getup down. But, yeah, whatever that says about me, I can see it seeming like a good idea in my mind. Except that I know that much as I wish I looked good in yellow, I just don't
  22. I will say that despite some of the other "poetry" he has been exposed to ( just going by other things I've seen Jill post, on the assumption that she thinks they have merit), he does have a marginally better sense of meter than a lot of what's out there. He has taken some pains to give a sense of flow to the whole thing. Sorry - this was in reference to Phillip's poem a few pages back. I'm babysitting today, and didn't get a chance to notice how much further on this thread had gone.
  23. Or maybe pronounce it. I don't remember where, but long ago I heard a comedian refer to someone who pronounced it as "chee-hoo-ah-hoo-ah", and it always stuck with me.
  24. Yeah, that makes sense. I guess I'm just in an anxious state of mind with feeling as though the world may be on the brink of disaster, so part of it is just me not being sure how much I want to be away from everyone here -as much as I really want to see everyone over there, if that makes sense. And I've always really wanted to show England to Mr Jyn, but he's always dug his heels in.
