  1. I couldn't quite hear Sherlock's exposition. So what exactly was his confession that allowed him a pass back home?
  2. I was a fan of Adrienne and thought she was more creative and interesting and would have loved for her to win but I think the emphasis that some people online are passing on the criticism of Joe's beef seems to be grasping at straws. Joe's beef was described as "chewy". Sure that is not the ideal texture but it isn't like the meat was inedible like certain other proteins we have seen. Also, the issue with Adrienne's second and third courses were the same, they were dry, no sauce to speak of to finish the dish. I was thinking the same thing when I saw her plate the octopus dish. That is all the grits you are going to give? And she didn't really put the octopus on the grits. Like they said, having it on a bed of grits probably would have helped with the dryness issue, along with having a sauce. And her beef dish, their issue with her smashing the peas was that it made it dry. Again, no sauce, the peas were her starch and from what I could tell there was no broth, so even though mashing beans is a good way to get a cream texture, if the beans are not sitting in a broth of any sort in my opinion it is likely any "creaminess" that one would get normally might have been lost. I don't recall how it looked on the plate, but it looked like a pile of the beans and additives, not really "lumped" indicating a stickiness or wetness Again we are not tasting but it doesn't seem unreasonable that could have happened. And in terms of dessert, naming issues aside, it seemed like they didn't have enough pudding. Again, I personally liked the concepts of Adrienne's dishes but it seems like she missed on a couple execution points.
  3. I think the rule was that the person who did not do the rappelling task had to take the puzzle. I know that based on the interviews that it was widely believed this was the case so at least Kristi and Jen based their rappel decision based on the fact they wanted Jen on the last puzzle even though Kristi's arms were hurting from HK. I think in an interview Henry and Evan said they agreed Henry should do the puzzle even though as Evan said at the rappelling roadblock, Henry would be better at it. I don't know if they realized what was the task before choosing Evan for the RB.
  4. I totally agree, they were my favorite team. The fact that Team BB decided to UTurn them was definitely a negative in my book. In all honesty they should make the NEL the UTurn legs. The UTurned team still has a speed bump next leg if they are last but it will add to the inter team drama right?
  5. It definitely was not as bad as Vanck and Ashton from last season. Of course, Team Ocean Spray was the first to the 2* U and had a bigger axe to grind and did it first. Team Indy had no real reason to do anything at that point except to save Team BB, and they decided to throw Team Yale under the bus instead of Team Extreme, a far bugger threat. It probably wasn't a matter of "ganging" up but it was definitely a matter of playing favorites because if Team Indy was thinking rationally and as "competitors" they would have realized that sacrificing Team BB would have made the most sense because with Cody they were a strong team. Not sure why there is much speculation about the grief between Evan and Henry. All interviews have shown Evan having nothing but pride for Henry and an emphasis on how far behind they were but Henry pulled them to within a couple minutes of winning. Also Evan has admitted to being self-aware that she can come off a certain way and specifically says how grateful she is that Henry has a patient personality. I think there is a big difference between being snippy in the heat of battle and wanting to win and being a sore loser which is something Evan never exhibited.
  6. Don't they always have the final team finish the puzzle? I don't think I ever saw the crew go to the last team and have them stop...except for maybe once when the other team didn't even get to the last puzzle by the time the first two finished.
  7. Yeah trying to discuss while running around is ideal but not sure how heavy the pieces were but the wings looked kind of bulky, I think the idea of trying to run as fast as possible and looking at the symbols and have a coherent conversation about the symbols was probably considered too much effort at the time. Especially if they were as far behind as has been said and were probably in panic mode by that point.
  8. I didn't say they couldn't discuss while collecting the pieces but what I said was at that point they were the last team to arrive at the task and by all accounts far behind. Stopping to talk about the pieces would have taken precious time when it was possible that Henry could have figured out the puzzle the first time with no collaboration and if they stop and talk about it, then he conceivably wouldn't even have a shot because the other teams would be done. I also said that depending on at what point he brings it up, whatever pieces are already at the plane can't be discussed since they can't stand there and talk so it is possible by that point he would still be working with incomplete information. She bragged to who at what point? The THs? Side-eyed who? Henry for saying they shouldn't check the math? She acted like a snot to who? Kristi and Jessica because they asked her for help? And she said, not right now, we want to check it out first? How rude of her that she wanted to make sure she didn't give out information that could decide who gets eliminated. Or when she wanted to keep the last symbol location under wraps? None of Indycars "friends" helped them with that last clue location. How snotty of them. I honestly don't know if I meant to respond to your post but if I did, I think I meant my posting to be agreeable and sarcasm directed at those who view the use of big words so negatively. Evan isn't a saint and can rub people the wrong way (especially with her communication with Henry) but I find her a lot more tolerable than other racers because she doesn't actively put down others and seems to get through any issues with Henry quickly and actively communicate what she has issues with rather than be passive-aggressive.
  9. Hmm...needing to attempt to belittle someone else to make yourself look better...sounds unfortunately very familiar. This is the type of attitude that made me dislike them during the race. And the U-Turn aspect? Team Yale didn't give two fucks about it after it was done (except for the mat prompting by Phil) while Team BB kept on harping on it and had to bring up the "karma" BS about Team Ocean Spray. Of course completely ignoring the fact they U-turned someone earlier in the race.
  10. What is with the name-calling? And as was pointed out by someone in the other thread, the mentions of Yale were not that frequent, pretty much it was debate debate debate, which is something they both did. I don't get it, on the one hand, people hate on Evan for not being supportive enough of Henry and shutting down some of his queries and suggestions, and on the other hand, those same people hated her for cheering him on too much. Oh you mean the same hat that Henry wore? Yeah the horrors that she actually likes using a full vocabulary, rather than trying to tack on random suffixes to a three letter word or use the same adjectives over and over. It may have helped for them to have stopped and discussed the stickers, the problem was they were so far behind the other two teams at that point that it was imperative to get the pieces first, then worry about the puzzle later. Also, if the rules were they couldn't help with the puzzle at the plane, then they could only look at the pieces they were holding at a time. I don't know at what point Henry brought up the symbols thing (first batch of pieces they picked up or some time later) but if it was later, by that point they couldn't collaborate on the symbols they already took to the plane building site. You mean stuff they are prompted to say in the THs? Like how Indy Car and Team Xtreme drew on their sports backgrounds to give them an edge? I definitely can't fault her for not packing one more random hat just because you are offended by the fact she doesn't want to hide the fact she went to Yale.
  11. All I can say is if there is any team worthy of being on all-stars or redemption or whatever they call the returning teams version, it is Henry and Evan, if the Amazing Edit is to be believed, they would be the first team to have actually really first solved the final puzzle but then brain-farted and lost the race
  12. Listening to the exit interviews on "Rob has a podcast" makes me realize that my impressions of the Team Yale hate were accurate, they just didn't interact like everyone else thought they should. I guess the other racers didn't view the process of finding locations actually a part of the "race". Also, Jessica got all the THs of anti-Evan, but the vitriol from Cody about Evan was kind of crazy, I guess he doesn't like assertive women who have opinions and are willing to butt heads with their man. And room all the reports about the social media war going on reinforces my negative feelings towards Team BB. And as much as it may have helped for them to stop and look at the symbols before getting back to the plane, the problem was they were so far behind at that point, you can't blame Evan or anyone else in that position to feel the most important thing would be to get all the pieces first. Raise your hand if you ever felt solving a puzzle was faster without all the pieces first?
  13. I agree it was tough, making the last sign red and yellow makes the most sense. And they were never in Paris when they were in France and actually were standing under the arch to start the leg so I don't mind that curveball.
  14. I couldn't bear to actually watch the entire assembly portion, it was too tense and I went nuts when I stopped and saw Henry had it right way before Team BB. Sigh, that is a bummer. I guess now the criticism to pile on Evan is that she isn't a better post-lost interviewee? I don't understand why he didn't get it checked, he doesn't lose anything by getting it checked and a thumbs down right? I am sure that Henry knew he had it since he eventually did get it and must have known he had the same combination. The way to do it probably was to lay out all the pieces and figure out which combination of 6 works. Instead everyone seemed to want to get it on the plane first.
  15. Exactly, Henry was in debate too so if he had legitimate concerns he should be able to verbalize them. There is no reason for him to have felt intimidated by her response, he talks about the benefits of debate as much as she does.
  16. Yup Tivo failed me, but they have the episode slated for next week so I just thought it was programming in my market. And when I actually flipped to the channel live the rerun wasn't on it was the Bethany and Frankie show. Ugh...next week spectrum is changing to digital requiring a set top box (instead of the analog I have now) so I might just have to catch things online now.
  17. Did something happen in some markets that resulted in the episode not broadcasting?
  18. I think you got it reversed. Evan questioned the math, Henry was the one that said do we really need to (since he did it) and she gave him the side-eye like we check everything. And what was wrong wasn't the math, it was being off by 3 cm in measuring the elephant's foot.
  19. The hate for Evan (and byproduct Henry) smells a lot like the hate from last season for the blonde female/Asian guy team last year. Just like last year, don't get it except for maybe they don't socialize with others like the others feel like they should.
  20. They have apps for everything, and no one was poo-pooing the idea or concept itself, in fact they were lauding the idea of a "waze" style feature which could allow travelers to know exactly how long it would take for their food etc. And he wasn't saying it wasn't a matter of finding food, it was finding certain food. And considering how many travelers travel through the major hubs every day, as long as you get a small percentage of them to sign up and use the app you have a very big DL customer base. My understanding is that it is a free app, so it isn't like people will DL it only if they "need" it, they will do it if they think it will be helpful and make their commute easier without them needing to think about it. How many inventions that get funding out there actually "solve" a "problem"? Squatty potty? 9 times out of 10, the inventions are not designed to solve a problem you know you have, but to present a solution to a problem you didn't know you had.
  21. It got painful to watch so I fast forwarded, but was there actually any constructive criticism for him? I understand that he had a lot of beefing up on the app to do, but they weren't exactly throwing out connections except for maybe contacting the airports directly to get the back-end. And he seemed definitely to be someone who is more of an "inventor" than an "entrepreneur" type, in other words, he had a great idea for a product but he needed someone to help execute (market the product to get the users, contact the airports and the businesses to do back-end etc.).
  22. Yup, now I see it, they needed to off her because she had just discovered the conspiracy. It was kind of extreme, but kind of made sense all the way around I guess since the bomb was originally meant to off Chandler.
  23. Thanks for giving me that hope! I have to say, this series, does a great job of killing of relatively major characters, but doing so in the suitable amount of fanfare to the individual characters. And kind of in a realistic manner, keeps you on the edge of your seat as to seeing if someone will live or die. I actually thought Slattery might die when he got stabbed, just because, Chandler is back to be able to captain the ship. And Maylan is quite capable of doing so too. I have to say, Valkyrie suddenly dying in China was kind of crazy. It seemed so random and unnecessary. But I guess they wanted to show Wolfe as being a total man-whore when it comes to the ladies. :-P
  24. At this point, after spending hours binge-watching, I am fully committed to the end, but I must say the start of Season 4 was not very promising. My viewpoint regarding Maylan was that he was not agreeing with the methods of Chandler (staying to fight, working with the pirates etc.) but he at no time really believed he was a traitor. He even went out of his way to try to find evidence to exonerate Chandler, and warned Slattery that at this point a court martial would find him guilty because there was no other evidence. He was probably pretty pissed about the mutiny, but I think after seeing how the pirates were helping the crew and realizing that Peng was just utterly and completely evil, even if he didn't agree with the "logic" of the mission, he couldn't argue against the ethics, and it wasn't like he had any other option, there was no way he would do anything to compromise the mission, as if it happened, they would all sink, so why not help and defeat the SOB. The entire time, he was willing to follow orders, albeit begrudgingly, until he received what he believed were orders to do opposite. Now those orders to do opposite were not tenable (due to the mutiny) no reason not to help. I think the scene regarding when they found the coordinates on the Henan which confirmed Chandler's mole theory came after the successful Museum mission was just icing on the cake and gave him peace of mind he did the right thing at the end.
  25. OK really late because I am catching up and binge watching. Interesting motivation for Peng, really wish they explained it more, maybe even through Sasha's intel file on Peng, like mentioning how his grandmother was from Nanking and he espoused some very Chinese Nationalist views before the plague. The actor for Peng was interviewed here: http://thelastship.tv/exclusive-interviews-body/fernando-chien-interview/ He seems to say that was partly his motivation for the character. And it isn't hard to imagine that the Americans didn't go guns blazing into the CIC and Bridge. One, this was still a stealth mission, they were "taking control" of the ship by taking the head and the heart of it, but if gunfire rang out and the rest of the crew was alerted to an attack, then things would get dicey as the boarding team was severely outnumbered. And the boarding team was fairly confident that the Chinese naval personnel wouldn't be armed, so no reason to go in blazing. The Museum operation was different, there were active patrolling soldiers there, all fully armed, so definitely a situation where going in blazing was necessary. Regarding other navies, considering the Chinese navy was down to 4 destroyers, it isn't surprising all the rest of the countries had no functioning navy. In terms of Meylin's conversion, but eventually, Meylin came completely around to Chandler when it was found on the Henan the coordinates of where the task group was going to be, confirming Chandler's theory there was a mole in the White House and a political coup. And the plot to get Chandler out of the way was two-fold, kill Chandler, but in doing so, cause Michner to lose faith in himself and then they could manipulate him the way the manipulated Oliver. Just killing Chandler via some random shooting wouldn't work, it had to be because of Michner telling him to do something...such as going to China to broker an agreement with a madman.
