  1. Mangled. So many quotes we all “know” have been paraphrased or altered to such an extent that they don’t really qualify as quotes. Here’s the Michael Caine quote:
  2. Wicked is a movie that drives subscriptions and is a valuable IP so it will be treated differently than many other movies on Peacock. Universal and Peacock have the same parent company so they are probably willing to make less money on streaming knowing that they will make more money in other areas (like merchandising and future box office sales). Plus entertainment contracts are now being negotiated with streaming as a consideration. Older and more obscure movies have less restrictions.
  3. CNN won’t cancel him because of the influence of a conservation billionaire on the board who wanted them to be more like Fox News.
  4. Not really. House Republicans would send it off to committee where it would be buried. At the moment there is nothing to challenge when it comes to his immunity. When it comes in to play, I am sure that there will be a lawsuit. Well over a hundred lawsuits have been filed against the Trump administration so far. Nearly every move they make is resulting in at least one lawsuit. Tracking the lawsuits against Donald Trump’s executive actions Litigation Tracker: Legal Challenges to Trump Administration Actions
  5. Was that people being shits? I thought that was just people doing Michael Caine impressions because when he says his own name it sounds like My Cocaine. I remember seeing an interview with him about it.
  6. He introduced Clairo.
  7. Yeah. It’s over his comments during the debate with Harris. The whole thing started when Harris called him out over newspaper ad so it will probably come up in the lawsuit. Since so many posters are fans of Jon Stewart, I’d recommend checking out the most recent episode of his podcast. His guest is Pete Buttigieg. I haven’t had a chance to listen to the whole thing but the clips I’ve heard have been really good. In other news, Bernie Sanders followed up a massive rally in LA with a surprise appearance at Coachella.
  8. I’ve been thinking exactly this. When judging that for accuracy, keep in mind that the percentages add up to 102%.
  9. They were unanimous which is really shocking. Supreme Court says Trump administration must work to bring back mistakenly deported Maryland man Also:
  10. That’s good, I guess. The tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China were always going to be the biggest issue though. Feels like a bandaid to temporarily boost the stock market.
  11. He’s already made that promise to GOP Senators to get them to pass the budget and it’s absolute bullshit. There is no way around massive cuts to Medicare and Medicaid given the budget on the table. Yes, I know. I don’t expect anything to come of this. But it’s being reported as a lose for Trump and Johnson which is going to piss them off. Fuck. While I hate what this is doing to the average American, at this point I’m embracing it. This is the thing that is finally getting them to turn on each other. The leopards are going to town and many that helped put him back in power are somehow surprised he’s actually stupid enough to do exactly what he said he was going to do. The idiots who thought he would only fuck over the poor people. Even Musk tried to talk him out of it. The New Civil Liberties Alliance, which is partially to blame for the current state of the Supreme Court, is now suing Trump over the tariffs. I feel like we’ve reached the point of steering into the skid.
  12. Turns out it’s harder to convince all the Republicans to agree to a budget than it was to convince some Democrats to give in. The holdouts are freedom caucus and they’re pissed that the Senate approved cuts aren’t steep enough which is ironic. Trump fails to sway many House GOP holdouts as his ‘big’ bill of tax breaks and spending cuts stalls
  13. I believe she is an Executive Producer which really doesn’t indicate the level of involvement. EP credit can go to anyone who is instrumental in a project being made and often have zero say. I think they have said she will be involved but I am wondering if she has script or casting approval. I had assumed she did but Lithgow being cast is making me rethink that. In the past she was adamant that all the actors be 100% British. ETA: I did some research and she had to approve the new series so it’s unlikely they will do anything all the unique with the show.
  14. Reading Rowling’s tweets gives me the same reaction I get when I encounter flat earthers. I feel like my brain is glitching. She’s now feuding with John Oliver and essentially admits she’s “anti-science”. But she also claims that science supports her view point. I wonder how much control she has over adaptations of her work because I would love it if they have LGTBQ+ characters on the show. Mostly because I think it’s a natural fit for that world and pissing her off would be a nice side benefit. At this point HBO is probably going to need to do something to address the issue because she is clearly not going to stop attacking and offending potential viewers.
  15. According to the article posted, he is accused of being aware.
  16. Ugh. I’m not happy with any organization that goes but watching the team that prides itself on being Jackie Robinson’s team do this is particularly revolting. And next week they are going to celebrate Jackie Robinson Day like this administration didn’t try to erase his accomplishments. Most of the players I like did look they were having a hard time stomaching it though.
  17. After this weekend, I doubt that we will see them in any significant capacity at protests. The contrast in how the mostly white protestors were treated by law enforcement was too stark. I agree with you about MAGA. But, I don’t think that the fear for Republicans is that their base will turn. The fear is that the tariffs will destroy the economy enough it tip the swing voters and the voters who usually don’t vote at all. If the state of the economy leads to higher than normal voter turnout in 2026, it will be bad for the party in charge. Also it would be wonderful if Trump voters switched sides but it is more likely that they don’t vote at all when Trump is not on the ballot which puts Democrats in a stronger position. Trump vs Biden in 2020 resulted in the highest voter turnout in more than a century. The last two midterms have been higher than normal and bad for Republicans because of Trump and abortion being on the ballot. Which is why I can only laugh when anyone says that Republicans are the fiscally conservative party.
  18. We’ll have to see if enough Republicans will do the right thing but intentionally collapsing the economy seems to be the line for some. Probably because it hurts their bottom line and because, historically, elections after the implementation of widespread tariffs have been a bloodbath for Republicans. House Republican moves to rein in tariff powers US Senate Republican pushes to require congressional approval for new tariffs
  19. I loved the parallel they drew but I don’t think that Belinda was anywhere as bad as Tanya. Belinda was hesitant to even entertain the idea of starting a business and it had only come up once. Yeah. Really all Belinda could do was tell the police where to find him and he can easily move to a different place if he gets concerned. She was only an immediate threat. Now if he was smart he’d be more concerned about Chloe.
  20. I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen. California to Negotiate Trade With Other Countries to Bypass Trump Tariffs
  21. That actually doesn’t surprise me. Say what you will about Mormons but they hold very strongly to their faith and it is one of the religions least likely to excuse Trump’s amoral behavior. Although I can’t really agree that the state has become more liberal. I think people are becoming more vocal in opposition but the policies and many of the attitudes are extremely regressive. As a POC it’s high on my list of states to avoid like the plague.
  22. Yeah. I was using that term very broadly. Mike White is all writing subtext so I don’t think that moment was about showing Chelsea being attracted specifically to Saxon. If I had to guess I would say it was about showing how much Chelsea is craving the intimacy she has, or that she thinks she has, with Rick. Saxon represents “see no evil” so I would guess it was about showing him once again turning a blind eye to the truth Chelsea is showing him.
  23. I can see it being interpreted either way. I thought the point was to show that Saxon hadn’t really changed and was still trying to manipulate her and that she realized she was in a situation she didn’t want to be in. I think it was to show where they each are individually than any potential relationship between them.
  24. I swear that each time Trump “saves” TikTok it gets a little more in his pocket. My algorithm is extremely liberal but I just logged to a post from a random pro-MAGA news site that the protestors are paid by Democrat billionaires.
  25. You know something significant is happening when people are showing up to protest in Utah. It makes sense that a lot of people of color are afraid to march in public. One other factor in the lack of diversity is that at lot of Black people (especially women) on social media have said that they are opting out after being the only group that overwhelmingly voted for Kamala.
