  1. I know. Although he was charged (you can’t be arrested without being charged). The charges were dropped. It’s mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter and other places but I didn’t dive into the details. It actually says multiple sources. Those are allegations that he’s never denied. He specifically denied the criminal charges only. My point is that there are enough allegations, that I find believable, just in the workplace sexual harassment for him to make the list of celebrities I choose not to support. The beauty of me being just an average consumer is that I get to make that choice for me. I get to determine my own standard of proof. And, for me, repeated accusations of sexual harassment is enough. It is what many people mean. Although I have rarely actually seen “believe all women” actually used by people who are part of #MeToo. Believe women is what I have mostly seen and the difference between the two is really significant.
  2. It wasn’t just one accusation. In most of the cases where there are lasting consequences there a dozens of reports of concerning behavior. There were many people who were aware of concerns. In this case the criminal charges led to others coming forward with evidence of inappropriate behavior, including with minors. There is a pattern of behavior that the high profile accusation exposes which plays a big role in the outcome. I don’t know if he was guilty of what he was charged with but even without that there is enough to see he is a creep who shouldn’t be any a position of authority. Here’s a quote from Hollywood Reporter. Even if this is all he was guilty of that’s enough for me. Which is often the case in these stories. The best case scenario, the one the accused admits to, is enough to make me never want to support them in any capacity. I can think of quite a few examples where one accusation had zero effect. And way too many where multiple accusations also had no impact.
  3. I’m fairly certain I’ve come close to influencing someone to violence with an eye roll but I would have also been the recipient of the slap. Fortunately my parents restrained themselves to verbal smackdowns.
  4. In his special Chris brings up Jada’s boycott and said she started the feud then. That just makes me think Chris as an extremely fragile ego. That Oscar’s was the year when all 20 of the top acting nominations went to white actors. Spike Lee was actually the one who started the boycott talk. And yet I didn’t see anyone claim Spike was just pissed he didn’t get a nomination even though he was also snubbed that year. Who knows what Jada said to Chris in private by publicly she expressed support for him in spite of the boycott.
  5. Absolutely but Chris didn’t chose to call Will a bitch. He chose to focus his anger on the women who did nothing to him other than show up bald and roll her eyes at his joke made at her expense. In all of this Jada is the only one who has responded to an appropriate degree and yet she’s the one called a bitch to a worldwide audience.
  6. Netflix chose to give him a huge platform where anyone with a Netflix account has a ticket to his concert and Chris Rock chose to take that platform. Then they hyped up the special specifically with the fact that the slap was going to be addressed. I agree. I agree with the first part and strongly disagree with the second. He should be (and is) allowed to say whatever he wants and the public is allowed to voice their opinions in response. Free speech is a two way street.
  7. I feel like that can be a significant distinction when talking about a child being disciplined but not when talking about a slave. Particularly when the character is based off of a real person who was nicknamed “Whipped Peter”.
  8. I don’t begrudge him wanting to speak out. I do begrudge the misogynoir. Particularly from someone with a horrible track record on the subject.
  9. That makes sense. I watch on HBO Max so don’t pay attention to air date. I agree. Same day live ratings don’t mean a lot for premium cable. If anything streaming has become more significant since HBO actually gets some ad revenue from it. The Last of Us and House of Dragon are bringing in huge numbers. I didn’t realize the Real Time did so much better live than streaming. Although I guess that makes sense with less binging.
  10. Quoted from the latest episode thread. https://ustvdb.com/networks/hbo/shows/real-time-bill-maher/ I think these are the ratings being referenced. When The Last of Us was against the Super Bowl it had a huge drop in the same day cable ratings and Real Time easily took first on the network. The Last of Us retook first with last Sunday’s episode.
  11. Exactly this. So many of the beliefs about gender are the foundation of homophobia, transphobia and misogyny which are engrained in children from such a young age. It’s not the activity and personality trait that is the problem but the ascribing of those traits to specific genders. Interesting question. I definitely do. Growing up my dad did not know how to handle his own emotions and was completely out of his depth when dealing with mine. I also struggle with showing affection and have a very hard to time shaking the belief that my sensitivity is a flaw to be hidden.
  12. I agree but that wasn’t her phrasing. The poster recalled that Pam said she felt “safety” in marriage. Safety and protection are are very similar but can have very different connotations.
  13. Emotional. Spiritual. Mental. Financial. Physical, anywhere other than home. Feeling safe is about more than protection. Hopefully she‘s realized she’s not likely to find what she is looking for it in the men she normally chooses but safety is a complex and basic human need.
  14. Hallmark wasn’t involved in it’s production. The production company was one that has made a lot of movies for all the network that air this type of movie and has a close relationship with GAF’s CEO. The owner of the production company has invested in GAF which probably explain Greene’s presence. He is one of the actors who moved to GAF.
  15. Yes there are people of color involved in front of the camera. They want to appear to be accepting and mainstream. So there are token and trope characters. Abbott’s approach has always been marginalization, segregation and implied diversity. So Black or Asian best friends, mentors or bosses and coded queer characters. Nothing that implies interracial couples or anyone acknowledging a couple is gay. Normally one or two movies a year with an almost entirely Black cast because in their mind they’re not racist or homophobic. I don’t know if any of the actors are openly queer. There haven’t been any in their main stable of actors but they have acquired a lot of movies so there probably is.
  16. The Chief Creative Officer of the network saying “I think” when talking about content for said network isn’t definitive? Meanwhile, Jodie Sweetin who knows Candace better than most Hallmark or GAF actors has been supportive of those critical of Candace. She posted support on a post where Jojo Siwa called out Candace’s statement and shared Holly Robinson Peete’s post spelling out why language like “traditional marriage” is a problem.
  17. I think Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip proves that point. He’s frequently compared to Henry Cavill and isn’t in the US press at all. A surprising number of princes and princesses go to school in the US with little fanfare. Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon went to UC Berkeley. The Spanish Crown Prince went to Georgetown. The Swedish Crown Princess went to Yale.
  18. Lifetime. I’d go one step farther and say it’s in the top 5 of the worst Hallmark or Lifetime Christmas movie ever.
  19. Did anyone catch any cameos on Friday or Saturday’s movies? I spotted one but now can’t remember who it was or which movie. Eta: I should have checked IMDb before I posted. It was Chris McNally playing the elf in Christmas Class Reunion.
  20. Yeah Hallmark Now is pretty worthless unless you really like rewatching older movies. If you specifically want Hallmark On Demand, FrndlyTV is probably your best option. It’s $8.99 a month included the DVR. It has 72 hour on demand for Hallmark’s full schedule and in the 72 hours you can record past program so it will be available for 3 months. The one real downside is On Demand include commercials and the fast forward isn’t great. I would sign up every Christmas season and cancel after the new year. Plus you get several other channels that air Christmas movies including Lifetime. If you only want the new releases and planning on watching within 72 hours Peacock is a really good option.
  21. I really hated that and it was what made me turn it off. The treatment of color blindness and her “I’m determined to help” approach was infuriating. It’s also absurd to think he would be accepted trial without having an actual eye exam. The vision screening she did is just to identify potential issues. No one is getting a contact exam or being diagnosed with what we saw. She didn’t even us the standard what number do you see test. At least one of the writers was American. I couldn’t find the nationality of the other writer.
  22. If it’s specifically Hallmark (vs Hallmark-esque) I had the wrong movie. Snowmance was an Ion movie with Jesse Hutch. I’m not aware of a Hallmark movie with a snowman coming to life but there’s a lot I haven’t watched.
  23. My issue is with things that aren’t mistakes. Stealing and killing a family pet isn’t a mistake and it’s not ethical in the least. That’s better than most but I’d have a lot more respect if Joaquin Phoenix went to the PETA shelters that have been accused or proven of euthanizing animals in questionable circumstances. I find in frustrating the the celebrity supporters of PETA aren’t challenged on the more horrifying accusations against PETA. They see the PETA approved horrors that show when PETA is justified.
  24. There are so many other stories though. Like the family pet who PETA employees attempted to lure out of their yard, that they stole when that failed and they killed within hours. PETA does many good things and they do many horrific things because they are a massive organization that attracts many zealots. I’d rather support smaller, local animal organizations. I can’t feel bad for PETA over the massive lobbying groups against them when they also have a massive lobby and umpteen celebrities to pretty up their image.
