  1. I'm not sure a comparison between Rod kids is the right comparison. The FundieSnark subreddit had a side-by-side of Sophia and Meredith Duggar. Both just turned 4 but the difference in the two is pretty stark. Sophia looks far more gaunt than Meredith, imo.
  2. Small kids love vacuums. (In my limited experience.) It's weird, but all the small kids in my life went through a phase where the vacuum or the broom was the best toy ever. There a decent chance he chose it himself and was actually having fun.
  3. I'm not going to lie and say I don't watch beauty gurus or that most of my makeup application techniques don't come from YouTube, but Jill's video ... is unique. I'm having a hard time believing Jill ever had a cosmetology license. Her first step is eyeliner, then mascara, then she contours with blush (... which ... my face is already pink. The thought of adding more red is horrifying), then she goes back to eyeshadow, and then she finishes with a powder foundation. I don't understand. All of that goes against literally everything I've watched anywhere else. We're not even going to talk about rimming your entire eye with thick green eyeliner. But what caught me the most off guard: have I been pronouncing Nurie wrong? I assumed it was one syllable with the emphasis on the first part, Nur-ee. Kinda rhymes with blurry. But Jill made it two syllables with the emphasis on the second syllable, New-ree. Kinda sounds like Marie.
  4. Jill is so desperately trying to make herself the cool mom. It hurts Who is the dark haired Rod boy? This might be the best look we've seen of the Rod kids. Which isn't saying much, but it's something.
  5. Capital gains are taxed on real estate, but you're exempt on proceeds from the sale of a primary residence (meaning you lived there full time for at least 2 of the previous 5 years) up to $250k if you're filing single or $500k if married filing joint. Meaning Jing and Jer likely paid (or will pay) no taxes on the sale of their house, provided they owned it for at least 2 years. You can roll proceeds over into the purchase of another house (which has its own timeline, I forget what) tax-free, but that's more for income properties or second homes. It wouldn't really apply here, especially because there's basically no way they'd owe taxes in the first place.
  6. I think the difference is that Anna and Josh have opened themselves up to the public and as such, invite questions. Banning someone because they asked a question, if it was in a relatively respectful and civil way, just causes more problems. They get enough comments that if they don't want to answer ... just don't answer. They're not obligated to respond. Of course, there a difference between "wow, how did you manage to afford a family trip for 7 people on a one salary household, that's crazy" and "you moochers can't even get a real job, did you fund the trip by begging?". You ban the latter, but for the tone, not the question. You don't want to answer the former, fine, don't answer, but banning just looks like you're to trying to clean house and hide.
  7. Jill's house is an awkward layout (though I'm predisposed to not like ranch houses and often think they're not laid out well), but I think it could have been a nice starter house if they had prioritized different things. Like not having a guest room and instead have each boy their own room. And kept the clutter to a minimum, or at least unpacked and organized before giving a tour. Of course, it's only a decent starter home if they keep their family size at 4. I don't hate the color, or the finishes even if they are on the low end. But I like cool tones, so the grey and white are right in my wheelhouse. Jill could dress it up with personality in finishes, or paint the non-public spaces a different color. (Which is what I did; my living space and kitchen are grey (well, more of a blue grey than I wanted, but grey) and myself bedroom is blue and my bathroom is green.)
  8. Also, didn't Izzy just turn 4? In the US most places don't even let you enroll until you're 5. How has he finished? Derick Al obviously means Jill's version of homeschooling kindergarten ... which could means absolutely nothing.
  9. Hashtags are really just an indexing tool for social media or micro logging sites that allows users to search and view similar created content. If I search #CountingOn I'd expect to see posts related to Counting On. General etiquette says to limit your hashtags, though there is no formal limit. (Instagram banned receive hashtags at one point and people just started putting them in the comments.) Jill's issue is that she didn't seem to understand hashtags aren't meant to be commentary. Things like #rip and #besthubbyeva are pointless and stupid and make her seem like a 9 year old trying to keep up with the cool kids. (And the emojis certainly don't help.) Jill's use of hashtags remind me of the Jimmy Fallon/Justin Timberlake skit, #hashtag. It's definitely with the watch, imo. (#shutthefuckup 😂)
  10. Thanks, everyone, for the info on the process regarding stillbirths. @QuinnInND, I'm so sorry for your experience with your daughter, but thank you for sharing. Mentioning that you wished the was something you could have noticed earlier to prevent it falls more in line with my idea that if it were me, I'd always wonder if there was something I could have done for a different outcome. Follow up question: was an induction recommended as soon as possible for Joy? I imagine there would be risk of infection to mom the longer they waited. I'm surprised that Carlin had time to make the trip, only because from my tangential experience with my sister's pregnancy they don't mess around with concerns of a pregnant woman. My sister went to triage a couple of times (they advise it if you fall, for example) and the last time was because she was concerned that baby want moving as much. They ended up sitting her and her daughter was born without too many complications later that night. If they suspected problems with baby and steered Joy to the nearest ER I find it unlikely they'd give her the time to make plans.
  11. Because heaven forbid people know that Nurie has legs! But is that modest with Nathan around? Did they make him turn around while Nurie shoved things up her skirt? There are so many things I just don't understand and it seems like why posing with legs out and thumbs up is only the beginning.
  12. My heart goes out to anyone who has every lost a baby, Joy included. (Lauren less so, but she's entitled to her feelings. She should just be more cognizant of her comments.) My question for those that have been there, because I have not; do they do any sort of autopsy on stillbirths? As the parent, would it bring any peace or understanding to know why your baby died? Obviously it's not going to change anything or help with the feeling of loss and grief, but I could see there being some comfort in knowing your baby didn't suffer from a lifelong illness or something else incompatible with a long or fulfilling life. My friend was very cautious in her pregnancy, following doctors guidelines to the letter: no soft cheeses, deli meats, prenatal vitamins every day. She said she wanted to know that I'd anything happened that it wasn't sure to something she did. I get that but I always thought that was silly because I thought of it were me I'd always wonder if there was something better I could have done, or not done, or changed. (She ended up with a healthy baby.) I hope Joy and Austin find comfort as they grieve, and while it wouldn't be my choice of comfort if it's in their faith I can't begrudge them that.
  13. Is that not a still from an insta story she posted promoting the Cameo gig? I figured whoever captured the still just did so at an unprinted time, not that Jinger choose that photo.
  14. But you could, theoretically, put a price on their beliefs. Like, they might not do it for $60, but what about $100? $500? I don't think the site allows you to set a price for them (nor do I care to find out), but it could be an interesting game.
  15. Nurie could be a really pretty girl if she ditched the 80s hair and makeup. They weigh her down so much. Nathan's tie in their courting photos had the lyrics to Amazing Grace? ... and Tim casually addresses his sister as "beautiful" in his congrats message. That's weird.
  16. One more than a forehead. Basically, a large forehead, either due to lowset eyes/brows (or in Josie's case, non-seeable eyebrows) or a high hairline.
  17. That's it! I don't think Josie is an unattractive child (though I think proper nutrition would help immensely to diminish the preemie look she still kind of carries), but her hair is so fine and light that the lack of eyebrows really doesn't help. I get it. I'm blonde and my eyebrows trend on the lighter side, especially in the tail. I feel like I look better when they're filled in (which is why I have them tinted 😂. I got tired of taking time with an eyebrow pencil!)
  18. Jill's courtship announcement for Nurie is so infantilizing. I would have thought she was giggling about a 12 year old with a first "boyfriend" and not her 20 year old daughter that she's gunning for marriage for.
  19. But only if they spell it in true Gaelic and go with Medb. 😂 I hope they don't use Madeline/Madelein/e/Madelyn ... only because I actually like that name. (Not that I'm having a baby any time soon, but I like that it's common enough to not be weird but it's not trendy. And it was my grandma's middle name.)
  20. I don't know much about the Kelley family outside of what I read here, but I'm kind of glad for Nurie. Not that she's essentially being sold off, but getting married is her only way of potentially having her own life instead of being at home with her crazy family. Not that I really think she'll use it, but at least it's a potential. Given that the Keller's have a couple divorced kids, one that eschewed Gothardism, and one that had a baby outside of marriage ... maybe Nurie has a chance. (Again, she probably won't take it, but.) There are more unfortunate looking men than Nathan Keller. And maybe this will spur Nurie to be her own person and ditch the heavy makeup and finally be able to eat a sandwich. It could end up being a win/win. Jill gets to be in-laws with Anna DUGGAR's family, Nurie gets a glow up, and ... well, Pa Keller seems to get screwed but maybe he's just tired of playing matchmaker for his kids and gave up.
  21. How does follow up care with a home birth go? Do you just call a pediatrician and tell them, "hey, just had a baby, I'd like to follow up with a well baby visit in a few days"? Who files the paperwork for the birth certificate and a SSN? When my niece was born she had her well baby visit with her pediatrician at day 4 and a follow-up visit on day 8. Or do they forego all postnatal medical care?
  22. Does Jill realize that as recently as 100 years ago boys wore dresses? (Okay, sacks, basically. But definitely not pants.) Like, gendered fashion wasn't a thing until the early-mid 1900s, at least until you were an adult. Let people wear what they want Jill. Are they hurting you? (Actually hurting, not offending delicate Christian sensibilities.) I can't with her.
  23. Nah. Breast feeding is natural. It's only horrifying because Michelle used breast feeding her 17th child in public on a float to prove she was the greatest mother of the year. How modest. If she was a regular mom sitting discreetly on a bench with one kid I wouldn't give it a second look.
  24. Someone else on another thread (I think) managed to parse out that it seems all the balloons were supposed to have white confetti, except one. That one would have pink or blue confetti, depending on the sex of the baby. But none of the balloons had anything but white, until Lauren's sister produced an extra balloon with the pink confetti. My question is, why have the sex-reveal balloon hiding away? Why not just give it to someone and make sure that one was popped last? Or have a bunch of decoy (non-confetti filled) balloons to follow? Actually, why do confetti in balloons at all? That seems wasteful and messy.
  25. Do they let you register online? I just had to renew my license and had to go in, but I registered online and they sent me text updates as I got to the front of the line. When I was #10 in line the text instructed me to head to the office, and after that it took about 30 minutes to get to my turn. The whole process took about 2.5 hours - when I registered online there were 53 people ahead of me. But it was nice because I could go shopping and do things and not have to waste a day waiting around the office. Highly recommend if yours does that.
