S01.E06: Auditing
zxy556575 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
I laughed when Leah was so appalled to be asked for weed. She definitely retains that message from Scientology: Drugs are destroying the world! REALLY BAD!! Really. Monday's extras had that scene where Leah and Mike talked a bit about how Scientologists have no empathy for others. I'm glad Mike is aware of it and working to correct that in himself, but he sure looked bored during most of the interview with Aaron. -

It's going to be more expensive, isn't it. -
Thanks and congratulations to PTV on their third birthday! I was pretty bummed when TWoP closed -- don't make me have to go to Reddit -- but voila! PTV saves the day.

Even the small bit of mystery we did get was foolish. Anyone who wanted to hide in a dark car as a surprise would, you know, bend down below the dashboard. Ringing the doorbell and saying "surprise!" would also work, without the potential for scaring Dad to death by leaping out at him wearing a black seat shroud.

Jimmy Kimmel Live - General Discussion

Maybe viewers have to be fans of The Bachelor/ette franchise to appreciate tonight's special episode, but I thought it was hysterical. Chris Harrison in particular mocks himself spectacularly. -
S01.E06: Auditing
zxy556575 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in Leah Remini: Scientology And The Aftermath
Of course I watch the Monday previews and weirdass five minute episodes! Tomorrow's looks fun -- Leah rattling around Clearwater talking to a drunk woman on the beach. I think the opening credits for the show are really effective, with the various adjectives being flashed on screen about Leah and the "church." All these staff and Sea Org members killing themselves working 60+ hours a week for almost no money, having little to no contact with spouses and children, making zero progress on their own spiritual advancement, miserable and hurting ... and who do they blame? Themselves.- 238 replies

Danged NBC is in a slap fight with stupid DirecTV and is withholding their signal. Out of 62 shows on my DVR season pass, only two are on NBC (Tonight Show and Seth Meyers). I can easily catch them online but am determined to be annoyed on principal. -
Kids Baking Championship - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Kids Baking Championship
I thought the kids were cute and their baking skills about as good/bad as the adult versions. The cupcakes that failed seemed to be because the kids didn't know how to incorporate the additional carnival twist. A couple seemed to pretty much ignore it and didn't get dinged from the judges. It was surprising that the kid whose buttercream frosting broke was in the top three, but I guess it tasted good. I appreciate that Duff and Valerie get along and seem to have fun together even when they disagree about one of the offerings, Lorraine and Nancy. -
I now want some gingersnaps.

Does it seem like Cumberbatch has kind of forgotten how to play Sherlock? My disappointment was that the tone of the episode completely tipped over into soap opera and away from clever detective work. I should never be able to figure out a damned clue before Sherlock Holmes! The entire aquarium scene made me heave a gusty sigh. Jesus, Sherlock. Walk in, immediately hold Norbury at gunpoint, and wait for Lestrade. Small moment: I liked the scene with Lestrade bemoaning that it was impossible for him to take credit for closing a case when John then ruined it by blogging.

The closed captioning determined that it was "anguished guttural sobbing."

Not only is Mary the most ingenious spy of all time, she's also faster than a speeding bullet.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Different sponsors! That rocked me back. Since when does HGTV change? Like, who got pissed at whom? Did Wayfair really think this show that nobody watches any more would be good exposure for their cheap furniture? The show dumped designer Linda Woodrum a couple of seasons ago but I don't remember if this was the same guy from last year. At least Delta is still hanging in. Go, little faucets! Southern beach town. Jeez, we haven't seen that before. Nitpicks coming! The exterior looked like a mish-mash of styles and I hated the front porch. I assume there are different thicknesses and coatings for cork flooring, but that stuff scratches really easily and seems ill suited for a home gym. There were too many different wood colors and textures in the living room. A walk in closet with an entire long wall given over to art -- put some damned shelving up. The master bedroom was my favorite. Internet star, ugh. Just wondering, but I don't get why so many people on flip shows say their favorite day is demolition. It always looks like tiring, dirty, hot work to me, the purported joy of smashing things notwithstanding.

I can't be the only one who knew from the start that something had to be hidden in the Thatcher busts? Quite careless of super spy Ajay to break them on the premises instead of just stealing them. Sherlock always gets antsy and manic when he doesn't have a case so that behavior didn't strike me as odd, but I didn't at all buy John flirting and possibly being unfaithful. I can't even ascribe it to him still subconsciously being hurt and angry at Mary for her lies. It's just not him. If Gatiss/Moffat, and possibly Freeman, want John to have more depth and layers other than being the rather plodding expositional sidekick of the books, they've already done that. No need to give the man a completely new personality. And really, haven't we already done the "John is furious with Sherlock" storyline last season? I liked Mary and enjoyed her expanded role as part of a crime-fighting trio, mostly because it provided a way for John to still be involved in Sherlock's life and cases without unrealistically abandoning his home life. But I'm not bewailing her death by any means.

It's all entertaining bollocks anyway, right? If I were sent back two hundred years to be brick layer I wouldn't know how to do that, or how to act in those times. There was some lip service paid about the Travelers not knowing how to drive but there are hundreds of others things they'd be clueless about, especially how to be a freaking FBI agent. I suppose the team could have found old tech to practice on in their time, except the future as alluded to appears to be desolate and scarce. The shock of possibly traveling into a different gender hasn't been addressed, either. Would MacLaren still have been in love if Carly was a male now? Interesting about the Traveler ID numbers. Maybe there are those who administer the program but never jump themselves? The Director should have a process in place to track what changes have been made to the timeline, so it seemed to me that Grace would have realized that our team weren't aware of the Faction stuff. I hope season 2 would give us more info on the team's lives in their time; who were they and what made them sign up for a suicide mission. It doesn't seem like anyone can return once they've traveled.

Last Week Tonight & John Oliver in the Media
zxy556575 replied to Kromm's topic in Last Week Tonight
Correspondent is kind of a shit job, too, right? Or at least requires a certain type of person who thrives on travel and doesn't mind acting like somewhat of a dick to strangers on remote pieces. Or maybe it's just my personal idea of work hell. -
All Episodes Talk : Season 9
zxy556575 replied to zxy556575's topic in Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee [V]
First repeat appearance, with Bob Einstein. I liked his episode fine but did Jerry run out of comics already? If he needs suggestions, what about Russell Peters, Jen Kirkman, Iliza Shlesinger, Maria Bamford, Garfunkel and/or Oates, John Mulaney, Moshe Kasher, etc. And I really want Billy Eichner to yell at Jerry. (We seem to have gone a little cattywampus with the season numbers, but Crackle says this one is 9.) -
Late Night With Seth Meyers - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to Words's topic in Late Night With Seth Meyers
I'm usually against corporal punishment but think Seth and the show deserve a bit of a spanking for that lackluster New Year's Eve show. It would have been meh for a regular Tuesday, much less a special show on a special night and time intended to bring in viewers who might not otherwise watch. Did Seth seem nervous? I dislike forced, fake laughter among all late night hosts, and Seth was more manic than usual. A guest saying hello is not funny, so quit it with the constant, braying laugh already. -

The Director also has to find people who died within a certain time frame and in the same general vicinity, so the available pool isn't all that extensive. As to why the deaths for an incoming team couldn't be a few weeks apart, who knows.

A Case Of The Mondays: Vent Your Work Spleen Here
zxy556575 replied to potatoradio's topic in Everything Else
Do you think she was telling the truth about four people agreeing with her no-donuts edict? She sounds like a loud-mouthed and petty person who's going out of her way to make trouble, but now I just want a bear claw. -
I really like the tradition of New Year's resolutions. My most successful one was not buying any new durable consumer goods for the entire year. I struggled most when my spatula got ruined, but persevered. Happy New Year to all!

Brain Bleed: The Shows We Hate & The Reasons We Hate Them
zxy556575 replied to SPLAIN's topic in Everything Else TV
Same with me and Designated Survivor. Was it meant to be an allegory? A fantasy? The fever dream of a child who knows nothing about government? Nope, it was supposed to be realistic and I couldn't hang with that.
