Just not feeling this season, I'm mostly bored.

Yeah, this was the first Good Place episode that I've ever felt "meh" about.  I'm chalking it up to the law of averages catching up with it and guessing that the show will be back to awesome-ness next week.

And what ticked Bernadette off the most was the ridiculing of a physical feature of hers. That should have been off limits.

Yeah, that bugged.  And it was compounded by Bernie's "Oh, so you wanna talk about bodies?  You really wanna go there" to Amy came dangerously close to fat-shaming, IMO.

I was willing to pretend that the scar didn't exist, otherwise she'd have to worry about every freckle, but for me, the same exact earrings on "both" women would be impossible to ignore.

Guess suspension of disbelief is the only logical option there.  Because in real life, SG and Kara are both so attractive that a lot men and women would pay a lot of attention to their faces.  My guess is that 90% of those folks would pick up the scar and make the connection.  Since the make-up people seemed to put more effort in covering up the scar (HD is so unforgiving) looks like one of the show runners has been giving the topic some thought too.

In a better-written show, there would be a lot of exploration of the ramifications of this. Everything from paranoia about who else could be aliens in our government and elsewhere to the systematic undoing of the President WW administration's accomplishments. There would be hearings as to who else might have known she was an alien.

Totally agree.  And it would have taken just four or five lines of exposition from President WW to establish her position.  Just plain lazy writing and direction detracting from what should be a pretty compelling story line.

Watching Lena, Kara and Eve try to run away from Grace and her goons had the unintended effect of penguins trying to all run away at once.

Wow, great comparison.  Those scenes did have a kind of "March of the Penguins" feeling to it, lol.  All you needed was some wacky music.

Bright side: Kara doing Supergirl things while she's force to stay Kara. Not sure what was funnier . . . her catching bullets and just flinging them back to injure her attackers, or fake-sneezing to blow some troopers away.

Forgot about that one, lol.  Between the two of them Lena Luthor and Eve Tessmacher must have a combined IQ of about a zillion.  IRL, they should have both figured out Kara's ID based on that one incident alone.  If not for the fact that it's known that Kara and Clark are cousins, she could just as easily forego the secret ID thing altogether IMO.  It takes a lot for her to maintain, and for the most part she hasn't done such a good job of it.

I liked seeing Lena being kickass, but her not knowing who Kara is has gotten to the point of embarrassing. She is supposed to be this super genius, but she cant tell that the woman who looks exactly like Supergirl...might be Supergirl?!

Having said that, I do notice that the makeup folks have done a better job of camouflaging MB's forehead scar this season.  It always bugged me that no one in that Universe has noticed that both Kara Danvers and Supergirl share that distinct characteristic.

    • Love 2
  7. If Lena hasn't figured out that Kara Danvers=Supergirl after this episode, I have to wonder how intelligent she truly is.  At this point, I'm assuming that she' figured it out, just like Kat Grant, and is simply not saying anything for reasons of her own.

Was Hank the only African-American at the Agent Liberty rally? If so, he should have really changed his appearance to blend in better.

Yeah, I thought that too.  And he could have read Agent Liberty's mind - and the rogue cop's too - to find out more about the anti-alien movement.

All-in-all, I liked this episode.  Mia and Brainy could be an interesting couple, unlike most other pairings on this show.

I feel like the show is at the point where it's getting cancelled or the writer who was Frank's assistant is becoming head writer soon.

Some of us could almost hope for that, but ABC will never be the only Big Three Network without a Soap.  TIIC are probably lamenting cancelling AMC and OLTL.  I know plenty of folks that are still lamenting the loss of those shows and wonder why GH wasn't the one that was canned.

Also for a show where 5 of the 6 actors have amazing bodies, it’s impressive they don’t have them in their underwear in every episode. I guess they’re saving that for later seasons when they run out of ideas.

I’m wondering where they go now. It sounds like Groundhog Day the series. When it looks like you have eternal life you find meaning by helping others.

    Serious question here - who's the 1 of 6?

I was wondering that too.  My guess is TETRANEUTRON meant Ted Danson...which may be true at his age.  But he makes up for it by being...Ted Danson.

If Barr can clean up her mouth and the cesspool that seems to be passing for her brain and actually make some positive changes that's great and in the long term maybe she can get herself another acting gig somewhere but I for one am glad they didn't write this episode in anyway that leaves a door open for her to come back.

Also, given that Barr is clearly mentally ill, The Conners really should in the future tackle that topic as well, maybe that will serve as a Dog Whistle for Roseanne.

Good LORD the show really decided to go for broke with that Kiki/Griffin sex scene. Too bad that no matter how naked they get, I'm never going to forget that they're both complete trash.

So now Ava has to suffer the indignity of having fucking Spencer read her the riot act? He is a CHILD, he should never speak to an adult like that, and I'm so tired of being sold that it's perfectly fine that normal rules don't apply to him. And more importantly, I'm done with the show's campaign to systematically tear down Ava from all possible angles.

I should not have to sit here in relief that Laura has escaped being sexually preyed upon by Ryan, and yet.

Oddly enough, I don't find either actor particularly attractive, but together their love scenes bring the sexy.  Who would'a thunk it?

ITA - doesn't matter how smart or precocious Spencer is, as the old folks say he should have the taste smacked out of his mouth for talking to any adult like that, even Ava.

I chuckle at how hard Ryan works at downplaying his repulsion to Laura.  Poor Genie Francis.

I did watch 2 Broke Girls and so far there's not too much difference between Beth Behrs as Caroline and Beth Behrs as Gemma, but we'll see.

Beth Behrs, though talented, is one of those actors who plays themselves no matter what you see her in.  But as another poster pointed out, she is mad sexy.  I also don't think this is the best vehicle for Max Greenfield's talents, but time will tell.

I'm Black, with roots in Brooklyn and Philly, the former of which is crazy stupid gentrified and the latter of which is catching up. I spend a lot of time thinking about gentrification because it affects me and my family, particularly my Brooklyn home owning family, directly. I think a show about gentrification could be fascinating if done well - but this is not that show.

I agree, and this show might be missing a great opportunity with all the comedic talent on hand.  I too am a Brooklyn boy born and raised, now living in the Jersey suburbs.  Whenever I read or hear about Brownstones and Condos in my old Bed-Stuy neighborhood going for seven figures, oh wow.  There is so much comedy that could be mined from the show's concept without even trying.

I appreciated that they gave some explanations for why Superman and J'onn will be missing from action scenes.

And...the writers continue to contort themselves into pretzels explaining why the two most powerful heroes (depending on how you rank Kara) will never be available when the shit really hits the fan.  I'm really trying to stick with this show, but TPTB are making it extremely difficult.

Does anybody else see a problem with anybody being able to purchase an image inducer, where anybody can look like anybody else or look completely different than what they really look like.

More than that, they're stealing from X-Men comics now?  I believe either Professor X or Forge created an image inducer back in the late 70s or early 80s so that Nightcrawler could go about in public without scaring people.  Different universe so I guess it doesn't count, lol.

Boy, even though they don't share DNA the Danvers sisters can really be bitchy to folks who are on their side.  J'onn didn't deserve that attitude from Kara, nor did Brainy from Alex.  Speaking of which - Alex?  Brainy is like the most brilliant being on Earth, try showing that asset some kind of respect.  Also - Kara?  Your Cousin outright said that J'onn is the most powerful being on the planet, keep that in mind the next time your impulsive, immature ass gets in a serious jam.  Yikes, I'm not sure why these girls even have friends. heh.

I enjoyed it, though I groaned when I remembered James/Lena was still a thing.

That pain will be short lived; James will probably find out about Lena's meddling around episode 3 or 4 and that relationship will be done.

Despite all that was wrong, this episode wasn't horrible, and it does seem like the showrunners are at least trying to do better this season.

I'm getting worried as well.  Three out of the first four have been pretty flat.  I was hoping the writing staff would get energized by it being the final season and pull out all the stops.  Watching episodes from the early seasons, the writing is so sharp.  I want this show to go out on a high note!

This, exactly. A local station today was playing the episode where Penny goes along on Sheldon and Amy's first date, and the B plot was Leonard and Raj taking Howard to the ER after he got his robot arm stuck on his penis. The writing was so sharp and witty, and though I've seen this episode several times, it still made me laugh throughout. That very rarely happens with the last few seasons, though they occasionally do still hit it out of the park. Unfortunately, that's now the exception rather than the rule.

Over on Mayim's Groknation site several posters noted that this episode and the two before it seemed "off," and that there appeared to be a tension between the characters.  I have a feeling that the cast had a hunch this season would be the last even before the official word dropped, and it reflected in their performances.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion here, but I for one am basically ok with BBT coming to an end.  As a big HIMYM fan, it was rough watching a brilliant sitcom evaporate into mediocrity over the last three seasons.  That cast wanted to go on past season 9, but CBS saw the writing on the wall.  BBT has slipped a bit in the last three or four seasons as well, but not nearly as much, and I don't want to see this show, possibly one of the top ten best sitcoms of all time, go out the same way.

Bernadette really sold poor Raj out.

That scene left me with such mixed feelings.  I'm a bit concerned that Bernie and Penny may have scared Anu off, she did seem a bit surprised by Raj's idiosyncrasies.  On the one hand, as friends they should be more in tune with Raj's loneliness.  Geez, even Stuart is happily hooked up now.

On the other hand, I do remember how upset Bernie was once she realized Penny hadn't given her a heads-up about Howard's sordid past.  Ultimately, for me it comes down to the fact that Raj may be weird (they all are) and a bit of a Dick sometimes, but there's a heart of gold underneath all that.  They're all getting older now, real friends wouldn't derail his shot at being happy.

    I'm really liking Anu.

Me too.  She's nice, really grounded and adds another non-scientist to the core group.  I was hoping for a return of Yvette the Vet as endgame, but Anu is looking even better.  Plus she'll probably be the most "normal" of the group, outside of Penny.

Bernadette--I dunno, she seems to be getting meaner and meaner. I don't mind a snarky female character but dang, there has to be something likeable about them or it's just unpleasant to watch.

ITA - the writers seem to be ratcheting up the Bernie's mean factor and it's making her really un-likeable these days.

  19. Jon's last birthday present to Gary was pretty cool.  But...does anyone else think Jon seemed to be a little too perfect?  As a few posters have noted, I think before season's end we'll discover that "perfect" Jon had a very dark side too.  Committing suicide...there was probably decades of pain and anger that those closest to him seemed to know nothing about.  I'm 50/50 on whether or not he had an affair with the Shady Assistant, though.

This episode was the best of the bunch, and I am totally on Team Grace Park. But I just wonder how she will remain a long term character. She is so isolated from the entire group.

I think her character was written as a bitch in the Pilot to generate audience animus.  She was less bitchy this episode, a lot more relatable, but not really likeable as a character.  My hunch is, like Gary said, that marriage was pretty much a bust from Day One.

    21 minutes ago, ElectricBoogaloo said:

I also liked that when Gary asked if they were just supposed to pretend nothing happened and have a good day, Rome said that that's exactly how he gets through every single day.

As someone familiar with depression, that's how you do it.  When you have a good day, acknowledge it and keep pushing through.  Very realistic scene IMO.

How in the world  did these two fuckwits think that they could live a happily ever after. That Jon and Co would be cool with a couple shuffle and still hang out with everyone. Like Gary and Rome wouldn’t side with Jon and no one would see these two ever again.

Reminds me of a time in the early 70s when two Yankee players switched wives...and families.  I always wondered how others in their lives felt about the swap and what the repercussions were for everyone involved.

That's my point. It was a relatively easy if showy gesture. That's a very juvenile conception of what romance is. For all of Raj's flaws, I thought his ideas of what romance is and why he craves it were more sophisticated than that. I thought wrong, apparently.

Or, maybe the not-so-sudden realization of dying alone (a terrible thought, actually) made Raj temper his romantic idealism a bit.  It happens as some folks grow older.

Wow it’s a really bad episode when Raj is the star of it.  I kinda liked where is storyline went.   He originally walked away from a potential wife that wanted more a business arrangement then a marriage which caused her to seemingly make it more romantic.

I have a hunch that Anu (?) will be the one to curb Raj's asshole-tendencies.  As another poster pointed out, she figured him out very quickly, and Raj can easily be dominated by strong women.  Also, despite her pragmatic, assertive nature Anu seems to have a sweet side that Raj's romantic nature speaks to.  The proposal did surprise me; I expected her to call him back after he walked away...but to suggest continued dating, not matrimony.  Could be after 11 seasons the writers felt like they had mined the "Raj can't find a woman" well as deep as they could.

  24. Guess I'm in the minority here, but this episode was actually pretty good IMO.  I like Raj's fiance, she's got a real Mindy Kaling vibe going on.  Will probably fit in a lot better with the group than any of Raj's past GFs.  I hope they go the distance with the S/L.  Even Stuart's found love, heh.
