  1. Tremendously pleased with the results, Ukraine's song stood out the most when I first heard it because it was so different to all of the others. It wasn't my favourite but well within my top 5 and the victory was so sweet. I was prepared to hate on the new voting system until I saw the madness and the magic of it. It was truly the most nerve-wrecking hour or so of voting I've ever experienced in all my years of watching Eurovision. I was incredibly against Australia winning and considering they took hold of the lead and a big one at that for pretty much 90% of the voting, I thought it would've been a blow out. Naturally all the hateful anti-Ukraine comments have surfaced all over Youtube, Instagram etc etc. It really bothers me. Looking at the voting breakdown on the Eurovision site/app, the Ukraine public gave Russia top votes and the Russian public gave Ukraine the 2nd highest votes. Clearly these Eurovision viewers do not hate each other as much as the ones spewing the hateful vitriolic comments on social media. I think Jamala is a great artist, it was a good song performed with so much raw emotion and power. It goes to show that you don't need crazy fireworks or fancy props or men running in hamster wheels, to convey a poignant song across and touch peoples' hearts.
  2. Snippets of the first rehearsals are up on the official Eurovision Youtube page, avoid if you don't want to be spoiled at all about what the final staging might look like.
  3. For the first time I'm not put off by the bookies' favourites: Russia & France Happy to see either of them win. Normally the favourites really irk me, like Mans from last year and Aram MP3 the year before but thank god Conchita won. Not quite sure how to feel about Romania being disqualified. I think I would care more if they had a really good song but Ovidiu Anton's one sounds really cheesy. Good Eurovision cheese, I supposed. I am NOT a fan of Frans. Totally biased and I'll be the first to admit that. It's the faux-sounding (might be real...but it doesn't matter) Brit accent when he sings, the very grating song, the fact that he tries to act all cool and blase (like the message of his song perhaps?) in interviews. His stupid hair and beanie and the terribly bland staging just adds to the hate.
  4. For me, this looks better than TFA. Can't wait!
  5. Yeah I kinda figured it would be tied in a little bit with money and political stability but I'm a little annoyed that it's partly because of that. Would be less annoyed if they sent a good song! What about the other Nordic countries though? They have the funds to host. Give Norway a chance (again!) or Denmark (again!) or Iceland, etc etc. That said I have a sinking feeling despite the anti-gay stance, Russia might claim it this year. That would almost guarantee Ukraine pulling out of the contest next year.
  6. How is Sweden the second favourite to win? The song is terrible! I mean Sweden has always sent top notch songs to Eurovision and hell they won it twice in recent times but this one? Absolutely terrible. I don't know what bugs me more, the song or the insistence of the Swedish singer to sing in a faux-Ed Sheeran Brit accent.
  7. I have to agree with the most negative reviews because GOD WHAT A WASTED OPPORTUNITY! I won't dismiss the notion of a Batman vs Superman storyline to be shit because it has lots of potential IF it was done well and you see shreds of it at the start of this film but somewhere along the way it's like Terrio and Goyer lost the plot. BvS is clearly DC trying to squeeze 3 separate movies into one: 1) Their new take on a solo Batman film, 2) Batman vs Superman, 3) Setting up the JLA Whilst Marvel had 8 or so years to pace themselves and set up The Avengers carefully and deliberately, DC took a bunch of LSDs and went nuts in one movie. There was so much FILLER material that could've been left out of the movie. Was Batman's multiple dream-sequences absolutely necessary? Why did Lex Luthor have to have such a convoluted plot to push the Batman vs Superman showdown? Was Scoot McNairy's character absolutely required? Could we have done without Lois' stint in Africa? If some of those could be trimmed and the others all summed up nicely in one solitary sub-plot, this movie wouldn't feel half as convoluted. At a 2.5hr running time, this movie was at least 45mins too long. Also what was up with the last hour or so? It was as if the writers realized how much they effed up the plot and it was too late to salvage anything, took a bunch of drugs and just went nuts in the final hour. It was pure cacophony and explosions everywhere! What really bugged me was they would cut midway through the frenetic fight scene between Wonder Woman/Batman & Doomsday, go to Lois and Superman's terribly painful drama where the pace would sloooow right down. That said, the editing for this movie was all over the shop as well. I agree with all the reviews who say that Wonder Woman is one of the best things about the movie because she really is and Gal Gadot owned the role and really looked like she was having fun, it's just a pity that she had such little screentime. I was glad that Ben Affleck actually fared pretty well as Batman, I didn't hate his Bruce Wayne/Batman. Perhaps it's the poor writing (most likely) or his portrayal but Henry Cavill has turned my ambivalence of Superman into sheer dislike. I was none too upset that Doomsday "killed" him. Good riddance. Looking forward to the solo Wonder Woman movie. Her score by Hans Zimmer/Junkie XL is also the other great part of the film.
  8. I might be wrong but I don't think Rindy was born yet, when Abby and Carol had their fling? Movie timeline wise, Abby told Therese what happened was about "5 or so years ago" and I'm assuming Rindy is about 4? I mean yeah it's cutting it a bit close but I'm of the assumption that Rindy wasn't in the picture at that time. And Harge probably naively thought that once they had a family and a kid, Carol would double down and be settled in the role of dutiful wife and mother.
  9. Not sure if this has been posted but J-Roth's reply to the backlash. A kinda non-answer answer of sorts: http://tvline.com/2016/03/21/the-100-lexa-death-interview-jason-rothenberg-lgbt/
  10. Seems like Russia is leading in the favourites pack to win. Normally I am averse to them winning (politics and all that) but I have to say that I won't quite mind it if they won this year. Song is quite catchy and Sergey Lazarev can sing live and perform with lots of energy. If they stage the live performance as well and flashy as the music video looks, they have a serious shot at winning.
  11. I guess this kinda belongs in the S2 Spoilers + Spec thread but is anyone heading to PaleyFest for the FTWD panel? If so, please do share any and all info/tidbits/spoilers. Thanks!
  12. I'm disappointed with the way her character was written. It was like no effort was put into it aside from a few stereotypes: the A-plus student, who just wants to "get outta this town", the golden child of the family (compared to the older druggie brother), love-hate relationship with her brother but deep down she'll do anything for him, etc etc. It just seems like a waste of potential because ADC is a good actress and she did a pretty good job on The 100. Same can be said for Cliff Curtis. Hopefully in S2 her characters fare better. Actually, I hope all the other characters fare better.
  13. So I've only just gotten into this (with a 6 ep first season, it's not that hard to catch up) and whoa...the general consensus that FTWD is shit is right! But howww?! I've seen the cast in other things and they're all pretty amazing (so it's not that they're bad actors) especially Cliff Curtis (in all the movies he's done) and ADC in The 100. Could it be that the material that they've been given for FTWD is really sub-par? Because boy did they cobble together the most boring family ever. S2 wishlist: -Better material for the actors (although isolating the location to a yacht might not be helping?) -More zombies (I am assuming FTWD is trying to lean towards more of the psychological horror, rather than gore and I think that's not a bad move) cause more zombies wouldn't hurt -Tobias? Is that you? -The kids (Alicia, Nick, Chris, Ofelia) actually doing more stuff than just being kids? It's a zombie apocalypse people, say goodbye to your childhoods, time to kick some ass!
  14. This is worth a read. How The 100 buried its gays and almost got away with it: http://www.buzzfeed.com/sarahelake/how-the-100-buried-its-gays-and-almost-got-away-wi-283y8
  15. Would be interesting to see what the ratings for this week are in light of the 307-gate
