  1. The actress playing tween/teen Kate is no longer beleivable for the role. She's grown out of the softer look and she no longer looks like someone who could turn into the present day Kate. Physically it could happen, sure, but I think it would be unusual for an adult woman of Kate's size and age to look back at her pictures from that age and see a very average sized girl. The closer the flashbacks get to current time, the more the actress needs to be someone heavier. But I guess they're committed to the young actress and won't ask her to gain 60 lbs. a la Robert Deniro in Raging Bull. (I'm not suggesting they should. That would be terrible.)
  2. No fan of that guy, but in fairness, having the gears marked on the knob doesn't the problem. You can know, and see by the markings on the knob, that first gear is in the upper left position and still have trouble finding it. Sometimes it's all about feel and you think you have it in first when actually you have it in third, one slot over. Which is what he was doing.
  3. She kind of fumbled the bowl as she set it down on the table, and reacted with a small smile like she knew she had messed up. But she went on and they left it in. Sort of an endearing, real moment.
  4. I've watched every episode and just read all four pages here, yet I don't know who Lauren is or who the woman in the picture is. Sometimes it feels like my brain just says, "No. That's enough. Too much to decipher here. Just watch these people stress over several decades and go to bed."
  5. I think you're all being way too critical of Ari. Consider her plight: She was leading a nice middle class life in America when suddenly, through no fault of her own, she was impregnated by this man from Africa and whisked off against her will to live in in a place with no affordable apartments, no car seats, and they actually want to circumcise baby boys! She had no idea she'd be at home with a newborn baby, no money, in a society she doesn't understand, appreciate, or even seem to enjoy on any level. She knows no one, doesn't like the baby's father much, and resents his family's interaction while also whining that she's alone all the time. She wants him to provide for them but doesn't want him to go to work. How did she end up here? What unfortunate series of events led to this? She had no role in all this! She's an innocent victim! Good lord, people, how thoughtless can you be? This poor young woman was snatched from her comfortable life against her will and forced to live this miserable existence. Have some pity on the poor girl.
  6. I want to see them driving! Some of the best TAR experiences are when they have to drive themselves in a manual transmission, diesel car in an unfamiliar country. They bicker, they get lost and frustrated, they put gasoline in their diesel engine, they struggle with the manual transmission, they break down. That's some good TAR watching! When it's all of them getting on the same flight, then to waiting taxis, it's like someone said up above -- "a group tour with activities." Let's see them get themselves from one place to another. That's where the racing really comes in. And phooey on alliances. Race, damn you, race!
  7. Is there no one in Brittney's life who can point out to her that it is unrealistic to think she can move to Jordan and continue her life as an entitled skank? Neither her father nor her mother seems to have pointed that out, and not Yazan's sister she knows, and not this new friend either? Or, now I'm suspecting that they all know it's unrealistic and that she never had any intention of moving there and marrying him. They're all in on the joke that this is a television stunt and nothing more, and maybe they think Yazan and his family are in on it just as much as they are. But it is clear they're not. And from Brittney's experience with the family, she knows they are not. Yet she continues with zero regard for what it means to Yazan. Such a terrible person.
  8. I just wanted to snatch Brittany out of the screen and slap her silly when she was in the car to the airport. Yazan calls and tries to tell her he bought a fancy car to satisfy her, but he wrecked it and will have to spend more. She does that haughty "why you trippinnnnn...?" routine where she's so condescending and aaargh, I just want to slap that stupid grin off her face. Hate her. Hate hate hate her.
  9. Sofia forgot Archie's name. I'm sure of it. Just a total mind freeze when it came time to say who she picked. She got all embarassed and coquettish about pointing and finally asked Howie to say his name.
  10. Exactly right. I've become jaded about most of the people on this show because so much of the plotlines seem scripted and/or the people are idiots who get what they deserve from their actions. But I think Yazan could pay a very high price for Brittany's little game of "tease the Muslim man and his devout family." She thinks it's all fun because no matter how bad it gets she can call it quits and go home to America. Yazan may be naive and driven too much by his lust for a trashy American woman, but he seems sincere at least in trying to make some kind of relationship with her. It is beyond cruel for Brittany to toy with him and lie to him about things that could put him in very real danger while she's back home shaking her booty for likes. It's the only real drama on this show, but not in a good way. I really wonder what will happen to Yazan when the truth comes out. Or what has already happened to him.
  11. It's no surprise, but Ari's behavior is detestable. We all saw it coming. She had fun getting all the attention for being so free sprited and adventurous about moving to Ethiopia and having her baby there, starting a new life in a new country! Isn't she just the wackiest, bravest gal you've ever met! And bonus points for making mommy and daddy worry about her safety! As soon as her mother left, she realized she was alone in a very foreign country, with no one except a guy she had sex with on vacation and then had some cutesy long distance communication. No planning or research into how she and Bini would live in Ethiopia. She milked all the drama and parental angst until the moment mommy left, then fell apart once she realized the game was over and she was really there, in those conditions, and very pregnant. I have absolutely zero sympathy for her. And the way she was coldly taunting Bini about how she has options, she can leave any time she wants... that's just mean and selfish.
  12. Libby's family is too stupid to pick up on the story Andre's friend (brother?) was telling them about why they left Moldova. And they're so determined to find out that that the truth is something terrible they can hold over Andre's head. The guy was basically telling them "We were in the police here and the Moldovan police are notoriously corrupt. We didn't want to do some of the things we were being forced to do, so we left. Can you please read between the fucking lines here so I don't have to spell it all out here in front of a TV camera and put my life at risk here in Moldova?" The family replies with, "I don't know..... sounds like you're saying Andre had to leave for some reason. Why? Why? Tell us why!" A bunch of trashy idiots. Though I suspect this whole interrogation storyline is just something the producers came up with, or they agreed when the family suggested it. All the Moldovans they're interrogating may not know that.
  13. Absolutely. It's just a game to her and she enjoys stringing Yazan along, lying to him about her intentions and even her ability to get married. Yazan seems much more sincere, though naive and driven by lust for this crazy western girl who is everything his culture says he shouldn't have. It's cruel for her to play with him and his family like that. It's a dangerous game she's playing and she can only continue because the cameras are there.
  14. That drum performance was ridiculously bad, or "just stupid" as my high school band drummer son said. Jumping around the stage hitting a drum once in a while, in no particularly impressive fashion, and you couldn't even hear the drumming most of the time over the awful soundtrack. If the guy has real drum skills, he needs to show them off in a way that focuses on, you know, the drumming. But of course the judges were dazzled by the spectacle of it all. Agree with another poster here that the editing on the silks act was wierd and confusing. A couple of times I thought he had messed up and had the silks tangled, or maybe he was just not making transitions smoothly. But with the editing I couldn't really tell for sure.
  15. Didn't his father say something about Syngin being "unstructured" and questioning if Tania thought she could change that just because they're married? I thought "unstructured" was a wonderful way to acknowledge that his son doesn't have any drive, passion, or a path ahead of him, but well, that's our son and we love him. Tania is just another woman doing the "I love him! He's wonderful! I can't wait to change him!" routine.
  16. When you stand back and look at what acts made it this far, it's dumbfounding to think how many acts auditioned or wanted to make it to the audtions and this is the best of the best? A very standard dog act, not that polished or performed well, that you could see at any county fair? A few kids who can kind of sing okay? A pretty routine juggling act? And what's with this obsession with Bello? Are they just letting professionals come on the show over and over? Bello headlined Ringling Brothers circus, for pete's sake! If Celine Dion decides to audition, do they just have to put her through and let her win over all the non professionals? Sheesh. This show used to be more fun to watch.
  17. And it's all such a shallow farce. One party says "My religion is sooooo very important to me that you must convert!" The other party says "Okay, I'll put on a scarf and mumble some stuff I don't understand. That good?" Yep, that's just fine. They accept that "conversion" as if it means the person knows anything about the religion, much less is truly devoted to it. It's all just a charade.
  18. Exactly what I came here to say. It was bad enough with Deavan and her dead face refusing to comfort Jihoon or accept his show of contrition, but when that harpy of a mother was screaming at him, I felt dirty just watching it. She was so extremely abusive and hurtful over something that wasn't Jihoon's fault, or at least his sin was not nearly so great as they were making it out to be. Emotional abuse like that can be devastating, especially to a young man like Jihoon who clearly is not a strong person and is under a great deal of stress. She was screaming at him like Jihoon had thrown the child in front of a bus. We did not see Jihoon stop, turn around, and yell at Deavan instead of chasing the child. We only heard him yell in response to being yelled at. Those two terrible women seized on that (and maybe his hesitation while running, we don't know) as an excuse to blow it all out of proportion and be vicious to Jihoon. It was disgusting. Good lord, how did they get me on Jihoon's side?
  19. The highlight of this episode was that scene with Angela talkling to the camera with her bra stuffed full of everything a white trash woman needs. It was like a tactical bra. Instead of an extra mag for your gun, she's got an extra box of Marlboros, just in case.
  20. Larissa abandoneed her children and came to America with dreams of living the gold digger life in Las Vegas. When you find yourself begging to be let into in a cement block house in the middle of the night to sit on a cheap bed with Christmas lights on the wall, arguing about ownership of an old phone and what a broke gay guy said about your vagina, you have failed in your mission. Go home.
  21. Kalani was just being mean when she told Asuelo that he was making out with his mother. Sure, the kiss went on for a wierdly long while, and at least from one angle it looked like it was on the lips. But the man child was seeing his mother after a long time away and she was showing affection without demanding his wallet. Even if it looked odd to Kalani, she could have let him have that moment without turning it into something ugly. I mean, really, telling your husband that he was "making out" with his mom? That's seriously crass and hurtful. Probably even more for an innocent like Auselo from his culture. I thought at first that she was just lightly teasing, and when Asuelo demonstrated the kisses on Kalani it seemed they were going to brush it away with some playfulness. Nope, Kalani had to keep insisting it was something ugly until she succeeded in making her husband feel bad about being greeted so warmly by his mother. I don't blame him for walking off. Then Kalani talks to the camera with her big innocent cow eyes and says, "What? He's just so sensitive." Typical mean ass bully bitch behavior.
  22. It's good that Paul cares about his dogs and wants to treat them well. But if you're penniless and calling your mom to come buy dog food, you shouldn't be in a pet store buying pricey dog food (it looked like Blue Buffalo, which I buy for my dogs) and browsing the ridiculously overpriced dog treats. I think he said three tracheas for $18, which actually is less than what I'd pay at a local store, but those are real luxury treats. I think he walked out with two of them. While you're stone cold broke, you should buy a reasonably priced, healthy but not top-tier, dog food at the Publix they showed just outside in the same shopping center. And buy the luxury dog treats after you're getting a paycheck. Btw, these 90 day shows are getting less and less fun to watch as I learn more about the scripted, fake stuff. It's bad enough when you know the producers "facilitate" things with money or behind-the-scenes arrangements, but it ruins the guilty pleasure of watching when I know the people arguing are just doing it for the camera and are friendly in real life, or that some parts of their lives are just made up.
  23. Sigh... we were waiting to see how the Mexican love story would go bad, and Kenny turns out to be yet another American who commits himself to living in a foreign land without doing even minimal research on what to expect and how to adapt. I do more research for a week long vacation trip abroad than they do for moving there permanently. And the sheer rudeness of going to someone else's home land, especially your partner's, and being offended by the little things of daily life. Armando was excited to show him the candy cart that he loved as a child, and Kenny immediately turns his nose up and says it's gross and full of germs? That had to hurt his partner, but Kenny didn't care. It's like inviting someone to your home and having them sneer at your way of life, your furnishings, your food, your income level. Just inexcusable. Can't look at that clown hair Kenny the same way now.
  24. When manchild Asuela was on the bridge talking to his father-in-law, I was hoping he would find a way to say something like, "I'm in a culture where I don't fit in, I miss my homeland and my family, and my father isn't here to give me the advice and guidance I need. Can you do that for me? Can you be the father figure I need and help me do better?" Of course, he'd say it in a more childlike way because I genuinely think he has the mentality of a much younger person. Then his scary father-in-law would take him under his wing and help him become a better man. But I know, that's way too much to expect from this show. Libby's comments about wanting American food at her wedding were outrageous. It's ONE MEAL. Can her family not take on a sense of adventure and explore her husband's culture for just the duration of a reception? Eastern European food is not so strange. Heavy on the meat, some of it unfamiliar, but there would be plenty of vegetables and starches too. If you can't fill your American belly, for god's sake just get a sandwich later. Libby is just another American who marries someone from another country without bothering to learn or appreciate any of their culture. Who goes to be baptised (!) without taking the time to learn what it means and how to act? Her whole attitude is so dismissive and contemptuous of her husband's culture, religion, and his family.
  25. I could hardly watch the footage of Steven with his monstrous legs and feet, and his personality is even worse. What a thoroughly revolting person. And then some woman married him and moved him in with her daughter??!! Unbeleivable. And his mention of having sex, ugh, that made me queasy. I'm now intensely curious about what kind of woman would marry him and live with him. I know there are all kinds of wierd relationships with women seeking out convicts and such, and I know some people can just overlook physicial issues when the person is otherwise a nice human being. But that's not Steven.
