  1. I think it is really baby and toddler stage because obviously children do play independently unless the parents are helicopter to an extraordinary degree. Years ago the problem was solved because young kids were put in play pens and so the parents didn't need to watch them constantly. Child raising customs have changed and I don't think parents use play pens anymore as a way of not having to be in the same room as a crawling kid or a toddler.
  2. She is imitating Gina’s accent. Capitalizing the misspelling to underscore that it is a joke 😂
  3. I always assume that whenever people move because one person in the marriage has been offered a fantastic job opportunity, that indicates that person is the chief breadwinner because absent very unusual circumstances, you are not going to have the high earner quit their job. Often they mention that both people found jobs or one person can work remotely - which they didn't do in this case. Or it is a situation in which a person is pursuing a graduate degree and so that makes sense in terms of the long term interests of the marriage. I was completely bored by this episode as it seemed even more predictable than usual. Of course they were going to take the first home - they weren't going to take the ranch with the carport or the third home which was "dated". On the general subject of peeves 1) May I never hear another HH praise a stair case because they will be able to take photos of their child coming down it for prom - a subset of this are people who discuss homes in terms of having a window to display a Christmas tree. Of course this was taken to an incredible degree by some lunatic in HHI who had a 14 foot artificial tree shipped to Australia and therefore needed a home with 15 foot ceilings. 2) People who look at a room the size of a closet and state that it is fine for the baby. Babies grow into children and most babies also come with a lot of stuff to be comfortable - typically a changing table or dresser; crib and a comfortable chair for nursing.
  4. No doubt but the weight loss made her less attractive because she looked emaciated and her face was skeletal. She was such a beautiful woman and her body was gorgeous.
  5. I just saw the show - Luanne doesn't really say much - at least in the edit. But she is painfully thin. She was always slender and had an enviable figure but she was never unrealistically emaciated looking. Her face is really gaunt.
  6. There had to be some unknown factor for the Philly couple to opt for that awful place. The only explanation is that they needed to be reasonably close to the schools the kids were going to - she had mentioned moving closer to their school district. The basement would be difficult to convert into a safe bedroom for a kid. I think a family of five would have issues with one toilet. You can schedule baths and showers and limit time in the bathroom for washing faces and brushing teeth but it really is difficult to deal with kids needing the toilet - or even adults. Even a powder room with toilet and sink makes it much easier. The guy was delusional in terms of what he would be able to DIY. Plumbing and electrical work for a bathroom needs to be done by someone who is licensed and experienced which is why bathrooms and kitchens are expensive to remodel or to add. And equally delusion - although obviously they didn't buy the home - was to think you could just add a room - albeit a sun room to a home and DIY. Even elevated decks are tricky because they need to tie into the home in terms of waterproofing. But a "room" is a whole other thing thing.
  7. I am going to have to rewatch the consignment shop scene because I didn't see the LV she bought until the receipt was on the screen - and I wonder which LV it was. Some of the authentic discontinued styles are quite pricey like the Sprouse bags and even the original Murakami collaboration aka the Multicolor bags. On the subject of bags, last season there was a lot of discussion about Crystal's $80,000 Birkin 20 which looked like a house with windows. I am on a mailing list for the super high end Hermes replicas (the ones that start at $2000 and go up from there) and they had a replica of the bag for I think about $2500.
  8. I went to the website and I still don’t understand how she generates income. I assumed she would actually be selling an extensive line of home decor items as well as offering design services. There was literally only a few items of clothing which seemed to be actually sold by other websites There just be some source of money that isn’t mentioned. The husband said he was a life style photographer and I can’t imagine that is a huge niche.
  9. To be fair I don't think Che has had any real money to be smart about. I think the series would have been her shot at making real money. Even a pilot - even though it pays more than episodic pay wouldn't be super lucrative - after deducting agency fees; manager fees; taxes and whatever. I don't think Carrie regretted her abortion in her 20's. None of the women I know who had abortions when they were at the stage of their life with random people regretted their abortions or ever second guessed their decisions. There is nothing to suggest that Carrie was infertile or that having or not having children wasn't a conscious decision. If Big built her that closet I am reasonably certain he would have been fine with having a child with her if that was what something she pined for. With his money, it wouldn't even have crimped their life style although they would have been rich married with children like Charlotte.
  10. I truly don't understand the enmeshed relationships these teenagers have with their parents. I don't have a problem with Charlotte not freaking out because her daughter is having sex - seems to be a high school junior. I just don't find it believable that the daughter would announce plans to be deflowered at breakfast nor do I think a kid would call their mother for condoms. Also if Charlotte knew her daughter was planning on being sexually active, I am 100% certain she would have taken her to the doctor for the pill because condoms are only effective when used properly and I wouldn't trust kids to be 100% careful in the moment. But I also found the idea of Brady calling his mother for emotional support because he broke up with his girlfriend in Europe to be ludicrous.
  11. I grew up in Brooklyn when even the Von Kemps wouldn't have set foot there. I went to school in Manhattan from 7th grade and I was seriously embarrassed about where I grew up/was living and would kind of cough when asked. It is astounding to me how gentrified Brooklyn has come.
  12. Isn't that the point of the franchise - especially New York and Beverly Hills which are supposed to be about the lifestyles of the rich and fabulous. If anything franchises like Orange County are banal because the people are wannabes and so they only thing they bring is boring fake drama. Bring on the housing and clothing porn - the shoe closets.
  13. To be fair Potomac is mentioned frequently and has even been a storyline several times. Who lived there and who didn’t. Potomac was originally supposed to be about women living in this enclave who were part of the whole Jack and Jill social group. Karen’s shtick first season was that she was the doyenne and social arbitrator of this group Now that the group pretty much doesn’t live in Potomac, geography isn’t mentioned.
  14. I have read that the reason the first episode seems to not gradually introduce the housewives is because they had to scrap any footage which had Lizzy in it after she was fired or quit. So what we are seeing would be more like a third episode and we probably would have seen the competing dinners and other standard introductory footage that would have included Lizzy.
  15. And who wants to watch average women. That was never the point of RHONY. Jill and Ramona were wealthy Manhattan ladies who lunch. Luann was still a countess. The Van Kemps got a lot of flock for being desperate social climbers - the good old days when they were reading the social pages of the New York Times to see if they were mentioned. Bethenny wasn’t rich at the time but her background was that of someone who ran in those circles and she had been raised as an economically privileged person who had gone to an expensive prep school in Florida
  16. I'm in - this is exactly what RH of NEW YORK should be - women who appear to be wealthy and who are obsessed with the nuances of social status - remember the good old days when Ramona was horrified at having to have her driver take her to Brooklyn to visit the Von Kemps. Even their diversity doesn't seem forced the way the last season of NY did. It is either Catch or Craft - the issue with Catch is that it hasn't been around long enough to have been hip in 2005 since it opened in 2011 while Craft opened in 2001 and is a bit long in the tooth for true trendiness. But refusing to meet friends at a tourist restaurant - isn't that exactly what RHONY should be ?
  17. The glam room cliche is really laughable because it is generally spoken by women who have a bunch of cheap clothing and are looking for low cost housing. Who wants a closet full of Target or H&M crap clothing - what a waste of money. I am no frugal saint but ironically I learned that I would go to the beautifully cut expensive black pants and wear them all the time because they looked and felt so good and the cheap crap that I bought because it was a bargain or I was bored and trawling the malls would stay in the closet - sometimes literally with the tags still on. None of these women are housing gorgeous designer clothing. Trailer RV HH was looking for a cheap home - she would have been better off saving the money she spent on crap and been able to afford a better home.
  18. I thought they would be mistaken for aging hookers. That is where high end escorts trawl for out of town hookups.
  19. Viagra was introduced in 1998 which coincided with the show. As I recall there was Samantha who started going out with a rich geezer who used Viagra. The sex was okay but she fled when she got a look at his flaccid tush. I think the original was lightning in a bottle which captured a certain gestalt of urban women in their 30's - and those a bit older or younger could still identify with it. Even when slapstick there was somewhat of an emotional truth. This new version just lacks much emotional truth - what may have been understandable or endearing in a 30 year old just lacks any kind of emotional resonance in women who are in their fifties - especially since the women as originally written and played weren't complete idiots Carrie dealing with grief last season at least had some element of emotional truth. Carrie rejecting a very eligible man because he was working long hours for a project with a deadline two days away was ludicrous. Nothing I can add to Che/Miranda that hasn't been addressed Seema aka Samantha doesn't work. She had promise last season but seems to be relegated to a cartoon character. It is probably the reason why Kim Cattral wanted no part of a shit show in which she would again play the cartoonishly sexual Samantha. It could have been a far more interesting thread if Charlotte went back to work - albeit at a gallery where her social connections would be an important part of her being hired.
  20. It streams on Hulu which is actually a very good streaming service. I am currently finishing Justified which somehow I missed in its initial run. Actually it was worse than that because evidently they were shopping for a used mattress. Most thrift shops won't accept mattresses or anything related to beds because of bedbug issues. And why would ANYONE be buying a used mattress - mattresses are plentiful and not expensive just for a "mattress" and bed frames are equally inexpensive if one isn't trying to get something super stylish.
  21. I was excited that there was going to be an episode with high rise condos in LA and then so disappointed. I live in a high condo in LA but not downtown. My HOA is high but it includes valet parking; guest parking; pool; gym; dog park; 24 hour doormen and obviously maintenance of landscape, roofs, elevators, janitorial services for common areas. Disappointed because the choices shown were so awful. I had hoped they would show the ones along the Wilshire Corridor, or even the ones scattered along the Sunset Strip or a few in Hollywood that are considerably nicer. I don't think DTLA (Downtown LA) has recovered from the pandemic and I wonder how pricing has been impacted. I guess if you worked downtown not having to commute would be a plus - but if you worked from home there would be zero incentive - at least for me. Being close to the Staples Center - which they alluded to - wouldn't be a draw for me particularly as there are other places where being close/within walking distance would be a plus - I do live in an area of Los Angeles where is rated 98% for "walkability" but the only place I actually walk to is Runyon Canyon :-) Regarding some of the issues raised by people Having guest parking is a HUGE plus if you live in a dense urban area in which people need to drive. Everyone drives in LA. My building has free guest parking because otherwise my guests would either have to circle and circle and walk a distance if lucky OR pay $10 or more to park at a garage a block or more away. Their dog run was a bit strange and not sure why anyone would actually want to use it. I used to live in Manhattan and dogs were walked on sidewalks without problems. Obviously with new rules, you picked up excrement and urine was not generally thought of as an issue since dogs almost always used fire plugs and light fixtures - the cliche being true. My condo does have a dog run that is somewhat like a side yard in a private home. People use it because it is like a dog park and the dogs can be off leash and visit with other dogs. The first two condos were awful - having an "interior" view as a euphemism for facing a wall and windows with some straggly plants below. And the peekaboo view that was blocked by walls and pillars was equally ridiculous.
  22. I remember that one - As I recall they were moving to New York. That one actually didn't bother me as much because I think they wound up with a home with a formal living room for the antiques and casual places that were kid friendly. I grew up in an era where there WAS a formal living room and no one used it except for formal occasions. Even on formal occasions we were generally just allowed to hover at the door to say hello. Of course I had no particular desire to attend adult parties and was just happy because we got to eat some really good food in the kitchen :-).
  23. I definitely got more than a whiff that the parents would have been delighted if he hadn't made the move with her. Why did he need that kind of monstrously oversized truck - he really seemed kind of low class. I don't remember what he said he did to earn a living but I didn't get the sense that the occupation required a monster truck.
  24. For some reason the DVR in the living room tapes completely different shows than the one in my bedroom - which is where I generally watch mindless television like HH 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣 There was one that might have been a rerun although I can't remember seeing it. It was a female who was moving to Dover for her medical residency with her boyfriend. Her parents were providing the down payment and the couple would be responsible for mortgage. They had done this for her in medical school so it seemed as though it made financial sense for them as it appeared they had sold the prior home for a profit. She wasn't married and the boyfriend didn't seem to be much of a prize. Not sure what his occupation was but it didn't seem to be professional. The reason I bring it up is that HE had this enormous sofa and the home HAD to be able to fit the sofa. There was a segment with the sofa and it was similarly butt ugly and over sized. The parents more than once suggested that it was ridiculous to buy a home based on a sofa - maybe they also were obliquely stating their opinion of the guy 🤷🏼‍♀️ I get wanting to have someplace comfortable but that massive oversize fugly atrocity was meant to be housed in a basement and not in a small living room in a small home. Not to mention the cost of dragging that thing cross country - as I recall they were moving from New Mexico.
  25. I don’t think the woman in Southern California was making a huge salary based on the price of housing she was looking at. She must have been receiving some financial benefit to move out of a home she owned with her sister. Their costs living there would have been minimal since I assume there was no mortgage and because of Proposition 13 their property taxes would have been extremely low because when a child inherits the assessed value remains the same. Also most well run charities or non profits don’t over pay their workers and you can check out their ratings which take administrative expenses as a factor in evaluating and giving them a grade. To a great extent, people working in non profit segment make less than they would in the private sector for equivalent education and background. Of course there are scams and less than well run organizations but for the most part, they aren’t attempting to grift. Also isn’t necessarily a charity. For example, many hospitals are non profit because they don’t have shareholders or individuals who are making a profit but salaries can be extremely high depending on the position. An HOA is incorporated as a non profit but it has no charitable function at all.
