  1. I love Hello Kitty schtick so this episode was fun for me. Plus the return of the shade-throwing puppets! While I'm not necessarily rooting for her to win it all, Pearl actually has grown on me quite a bit over the last few episodes. Her BFF look was hysterical! Come on Hello Kitty, if you were gonna be friends with Katya's BFF you could be friends with a bad influence too ;) I kind of liked her snuggie gown, especially compared to Kennedy's hot mess leo. Violet also really brought it. I was disappointed to see Katya go. She's still going to do well for herself but I always looked forward to her wacky creativity in building characters. I thought her looks were just fine, and I preferred her LSFYL style to Kennedy's ( came off super frenetic and desperate). I really thought she was going to stay :(
  2. The solution to the mystery in this episode seemed pretty obvious. Other than that, I enjoyed it. It was another ensemble and plot-building exercise and a new series always needs that. My husband called Blaine "Zombie Spike" and so far I agree. I am kind of enjoying the character but also not sure how far they want to take him as the villain of the show. As for some of the other men...Clive is starting to be entertaining, Major is showing a darker side ( and I'm glad he's not completely clueless...I think the actor IS taking him step by step a bit beyond a Dudley Do-Right stereotype. I'm not invested in who he or Liz end up with..it's too soon in the story for that), and I really like Ravi. Maybe its the South Indian in me but I think he's good-looking and hey, that British accent :) Lowell could go either way for me as a character to root for, I think a lot will depend on what they do with him in the next episode. Too soon to start really pairing people up permanently. I am enjoying this show a lot more than I thought, considering how much I dislike zombie films & shows.
  3. This was an interesting concept for a challenge style-wise although I thought the mashup dance concept didnt work quite as well, especially for Trixie and Ginger. They were clearly the bottom two compared to the other two pairs, and even though Trixie brought everything she had to the LSFYL just like the last time, the other girl just nailed the style required much better. I could tell that Ginger ( all purported bias aside) was going to win it. Its too bad. I thought that Katya, Pearl and Violet were all quite stunning in their looks. They all really stepped it up.
  4. Aww yes...I stopped keeping up with this past season momentarily but something in me stirred me to tape the season finale. The moment the song started I had a feeling I was watching a series finale and it looks like I was correct? Anyway, it was always a sweet and quirky show, and even when it went off the rails, there was always something fun to draw me back in. I love that they wrapped it up on a good note for everyone, and as far as a musical finale goes this was one of the best ways to say goodbye to a show I've seen. I agree..there's too many dark and depressing shows right now ( and I do watch some of them) ...and I truly enjoyed visiting Bluebell for a taste of something different. I'll miss this show but I'm glad they got to wrap it up right.
  5. woohoo! TNT is finally starting back up with season one. Aaah I loved this pilot episode. Can anyone remind me why/how the vocal ranges changed on the actors? Was it a natural occurrence or did they make an acting choice about it?
  6. I think its an intriguing side-question. I'm OK with the show playing with it as a way of further complicating some of the lead characters for depth. I like that the show is pretty focused on Peggy as being all about her work and still in mourning, but if they keep making more of these mini-series ( and oh I hope they do!) then maybe it will just be a bit of a teasing through-line. I am really enjoying The Chad in this role and until last night's episode I hadn't really seen him as a contender for Peggy's heart. But now...somewhere down the road...maybe? Neither of them is ready and he's definitely got more baking to do. I dont want to see an icky triangle but I like the idea of giving him and Sousa more depth as this story keeps going.
  7. This episode went dark faster than I expected, which I liked. And Jesse was an interesting concept and the kid did a great job. I know they wrapped him up by acknowledging that he could never be found again because he was that powerful, but I am surprised that there aren't more kids like him around, if that's how they can get made. Also...I kind of hope we see him again in a penultimate episode of some sort. He's too good of an idea to just drop.
  8. Just popped in to say hey to fellow lovers of the music on SN. I'm not generally a fan of rock music but I always dug how it was used on the show. Now that I pole dance I have more of an appreciation for it as well. The show does pretty well with picking the music...not too much repetition of songs that are trendy on the YA soaps at any one time. I use 8tracks a lot to find fun playlists, and was gratified to find a ton of fan-generated Supernatural playlists with some excellent choices that weren't just retreads of the old school rock music that Dean listens to ( although there's plenty of that as well).
  9. Yes, this episode was pretty good. Even though the ending was sanitized in comparison to the original storyline, it still worked. The music over the last scene was powerful. So far I am liking how they are weaving in good chunks from the comic book canon and putting their own spin on it for this TV iteration. The cast is growing on me. Zed is still a bit of a psychic Mary Sue but I don't mind her too much. As long as she's part of the ensemble she serves a purpose.
  10. I really enjoyed it. I would watch it again. I haven't had a huge appreciation for all the meta episodes but when I watched "A Very Special Supernatural" I got a better insight into why they make these episodes and I appreciate them a bit better as a part of the show's construct. I thought it was a lot of fun...most of y'all have already picked out all the good bits to talk about. At first I thought the Calliope piece of the plot was the weakest but as someone else mentioned, if Chuck/God loved it then it stands to reason that his muses would too. I downloaded all the music already :https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/supernatural-musical-songs/id940720595 As a theater nerd turned grown-up theater artist I alternately hugged myself and cringed at all the self-important, overly earnest and yet sweetly smart touches the girls put on their version of the story. The stage craft was hilarious. And yes, the version of Carry On My Wayward Son was so lovely...I wish it was a little longer!
  11. Oooh good I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering about Asian Ellie suddenly becoming Anglo Ellie. Other than that, it was a nice, quiet-ish episode. I figured the age gap between Chin & Steve existed and worked out with the show canon. The flashback at the end with Steve and his dad was just meant to be much earlier. I must have missed an episode or two but yes, I thought Steve was considered "taken", even if his girlfriend is overseas regaining her honor or whatever? And the scenes with Jorge and the brothers were funny. I wonder how many other LOST actors are going to end up on the show now.
  12. Aw now I'm terribly nostalgic for this show after reading this thread! I don't get the cable channel that reruns Farscape...I really wish Sci-Fi would do that again. Does anyone else have that collection of songs a fan created for Farscape? Gammak Bass/Kobol Dance Party, maybe? I was just listening to it. The mix he did for "Prayer" is excellent. It actually gave me an idea to start creating a piece inspired by the dark goddess that Aeryn Sun references.
  13. So far so good, I got pulled in. I refused to see the movie on principle because I couldn't fathom KR in the role. This actor is more credible as John to me. Nice to see some callbacks to some supporting characters, and I am cautiously optimistic about how they'll handle Newcastle. The effects are just enough so far for me and the last scene was cool and made me slightly nostalgic for the DC comic books I had collected as a teen ( AND THAT MY MUM FOUND AND THREW AWAY NO IM NOT OVER IT). Relieved they sort of wrote out Liv AKA supernatural Mary Sue although I won't mind seeing her once in a while, and I'm OK with Harold Perrineau's angel although I'm a bit overloaded on annoying angels due to SN's never-ending angel story lines. I LOLed a little in my heart thinking about what might happen if John and Castiel ( Supernatural) ever met. They could try on each other's wardrobe for size ;)
  14. Yeah, I agree that this one was a clunker. I actually like both versions of the story ( short story and novel) and the "Endless Night" song in the movie still sticks in my head as an eerie piece of music. Despite knowing that it could be justified as originally being a Marple tale, the way they shoved her into this story made no sense. The lead actors were all very attractive but I ended up FF-ing through most of it. The bit where the architect ended up having this connection to Michael and how it all ended was ludicrously soapy.
  15. Yes I was happy for both of them. They seem to have come a long way. I prefer the episodes where the competition is strong but the affection and/or respect is also healthy. The dim sum and cocktail challenges looked like fun. The vegan challenge looked stressful if only because Rob Zombie seemed pissed about everything. The mochi PB & J dessert looked yum!
  16. I too am perplexed but game to follow along a little longer, mostly for John Simms who is adorably befuddled by the situation. I haven't read the book so I'm completely lost at the moment although some of the theories being posted here are helping. Since this is based on a book...is the idea that this is a discrete 8 episode series? No second season?
  17. Add me to those confused by Allison's move to DWTS. Lacey & Chelsea were excoriated for a little bit on that show for their SYTYCD roots as was Dmitri for a little bit but they all have dancesport cred. As much as DWTS seems to allowing its pros to live out THEIR SYTYCD fantasies by adding hip-hop & contemporary to all the forms, I just am puzzled...it feels like she is being set up to fail. As far as a male contemporary dancer winner...Nick Lazzarini was the first SYTYCD winner, so its not the first time, even if its been a while...
  18. Regarding the Bollywood routine...it was a tribute to the closing dance routine from Dhoom 2 so the guy in red was meant to symbolize the lead actor/dancer Hrithik, who is a hottie and a bad-ass dancer in his own right. I was pleasantly surprised to see the crew because I had been FF-ing through that competition...this is the contemporary Bollywood I had been wanting to see on the show, and Bollywood dance team competitions are a huge phenomenon in the US. Go, dudes!
  19. "In my house we obey the laws of thermodynamics!" "You'll have to speak up, I'm wearing a towel!"
  20. I was really bored with this finale. None of the dances really stood out as particularly memorable. Aaron & Zach's tap routine came the closest. Was I correct in noting zero ballroom in this finale? Has that ever happened before? Tyce's choreography for Valerie & Zach I found rather awful. Travis' routine for Robert & Jessica put me off because it felt like it chronicled a violently abusive relationship that was being sold to us as sexy/intense but it seemed to consist of Robert grabbing Jessica by the head or neck while pushing her away, while she kept coming back and clinging to him. I FF-ed through all judges' comments so there was that. Honestly I was hopeful for the beginning of this season but really never came up to snuff for me. I suppose Zach is the best choice of all 4 finalists for me, but I've really ended up indifferent. Meh-ish dancers, meh-ish choreography for the most part this season.
  21. as far as i recall its always been two boys, two girls. Season One it was Nick, Jamile, Melody & Ashle.
  22. Ha ha yes, Mrs Isabella had some serious stank face going on. Even my husband noticed. Although I laughed even harder when Mike picked his wife to help over his mother...when the camera cut to the older Mrs. Isabella THAT stank face was epic. Even though I find Mike annoying too, I warmed up to the challenge. Yes maybe they are overdoing the distant cousin bonding a bit for me, but I'm not them...so if it really means something to them, it gradually showed more and more during the challenge which made this episode have a different tone than the others. I enjoyed their takes on Italian home cooking and both of them showed dishes that looked good ( although my heart clenched at the sight and description of the scampi soup).
  23. Hmm I think this has ended up up being one of those seasons where the closer we get to Top 4, the less interested I become in the finalists, for a lot of the reasons stated by posters upthread : immaturity, general blandness etc. Zack is my favorite of the lot because I do like his presence, his ability to adapt to the dances and I do enjoy his tapping. I was more drawn to Fik-Shun in that routine but Zack looked really good. I can't imagine the remaining dudes doing as well, besides Teddy & Emilio. I don't dislike Valerie or Jessica but I think they have more baking left to do, to use a Buffy aphorism. I don't think all dancers need to be light and floaty, there's a place on this earth for dancers who sink in a bit and are "heavy" in their roundedness but if that's what Valerie is going for she needs to commit to it fully. I liked Jessica in her auditions, I liked her first duet with Ricky but since then she hasn't really grown for me but it is also because she hasn't really been challenged. That "jazz" piece was exceedingly WTF for me. Ray Leeper is capable of better. Perhaps it was their youth showing, but yeah that disco didn't do anything for me. It was very "Time Machine" and didn't come alive. Honestly the best disco on this show was Season One's Nick and Kamilah. Not even Brandon & Jeanette could touch it. Ricky did fine in that cha-cha but otherwise he's turned into one of those contempo dudes with great tricks and not much else for me. That solo was trick after trick with nothing else holding it together for me. Actually, only Zack's solo felt like a dance to me. If nothing else, these solos are pulling me back down to earth as I wig out about about MY competition routine because as much as I am feeling the pressure to throw tricks, I don't want to feel like I'm not making a dance...so maybe that's where I'm coming from here. There wasn't anything particularly innovative tonight for me in terms of styles, except for Phillip's concept for the HH. Although the emotive rolling around on the stability balls was very pretty, it didn't break new ground for me visually, and I guess after several weeks of boredom I was looking for a moment like that last night and never got it.
  24. Not too much stood out positively about the show. I'm sorry Marquet is gone because I liked the idea of him..but I think while he was ok in his routines he wasn't the standout I was hoping him to be. I can't even remember the girl who was eliminated. A lot of the dancetestants really are blurring together for me right now. I liked the Travis Wall routine, shockingly...it was sort of the male version of "Addiction" and both dancers inhabited their characters fiercely, with the set piece and lighting also serving them well. I still find Teddy's manscaped eyebrows disconcerting but damn if he didn't mesmerise me with his slinky hips! Speaking of slinky, Tanisha worked that stunning bodysuit ( GIVE IT TO ME). Not sure how much I liked the choreography but I enjoyed watching her. Rudy stayed out of her way and that worked out well. Everything else was sort of eh to meh for me. I know I've ranted about Nakul's choreography before but seriously dude ENUF ALREADY. He has turned Bollywood on this show into what Dorian Sanchez has done to disco : an ethnic Indy 500 of dance. Forget about whether those two cheerful chipmunks could pull off the flirty character he apparently wanted from the dance, all I could see were a pair of panting dancers racing to keep up with all the flailing attached to every quarter beat of the song. Add to that how ridiculous I thought they both looked in the outfits, like they were playing dress-up in their Desi friends' wedding trousseau. For all that's holy, please SYTYCD find someone else to do Bollywood!!! OK I guess I still feel strongly about that.
  25. Plus the Kimchi Slap at the end was completely unexpected for me.
