  1. Oh, I think we're there in the pilot. And it's not only the characters, it's the science itself. For example, if weather changes and temps drop, bodies of water takes longer to freeze than the air unless there is a source of cold in the water. Even if you wank that it is another planet and the water may be a mix of various elements (which, you know, raises other questions, like corrosion or chemical burns), if the liquid froze that fast than the air should have frozen even faster and much colder. So that all of their exposed faces sans helmet, and mom's exposed leg, should have had frostbite in seconds. None of that sequence made any sense. Also, given they were stuck somewhere where they knew temps would drop and they had no source of heat, why not put mom on a makeshift sled and everyone leave? They didn't have to stay. I won't get into the timeline of the walk to the magnesium and back. I can hand wave that. There were several weird attempts to connect to things we didn't see, like Will lamenting that Judy wouldn't be stuck if he hadn't "froze." Which I guess harkens back to him freezing in a similar situation in training. But if Will had gone instead of Judy, then it simply would have been Will frozen instead of Judy. Why feel guilty about that? I don't buy that he, with a smaller size, would have gone in at the top and made it back. There wasn't any sense of Judy being down there very long, so the time savings would have been minimal. I did like that they teased what must have been an awful change in their lives after the climate event, with people trying to get approved to leave the planet and some not making it. And she traded something to get Will on board. Hmmm. BTW, I think they made Will too young. I know there is the Wesley Crusher Syndrome to avoid, but still, he needed to be at least 3-4 years older. We also spent a lot of time trying to figure out why the wife was such a bitch to the husband. According to the timeline, he came back home as a surprise only two years ago, and all was well. Then the asteroid or whatever landed and caused a climate event. So Maureen hates him and constantly accuses him of "not being there" because for two years he was elsewhere either helping people or fighting bad guys after the event? And he even went with them on the Jupiter trip? I don't get it. So far, his wife just seems nasty. These kinds of things kept throwing me out of the show. I'll keep going and hope it gets tighter. Did like the robot, which I guess was a bad guy initially and now somehow is a good guy? Want more of that story.
  2. Exactly, on the men issue. I just wanted to add that because the show is walking a fine line between exploring an issue and blaming men for it.
  3. The show started out promising but is losing my interest. The tiger stuff was uninteresting and went on forever. I much prefer the glimpses at how fat women are treated and what that causes, and the exploration of perspectives like the big woman last episode who was big and fabulous. Also, I have to put in the point that fat men face issues as well. It may not involve models and being skinny, which is insidious I agree. But there are desirable male body types as well and if you don’t look like them, you can ha r similar problems. So these issues shouldn’t be laid st the feet of men only. It’s societal. Jennifer is too much, too soon. And who takes that long to read their email after a hallucination? That is the first place I would go after sobering up. That and social media.
  4. Maybe I heard wrong. I thought there was a choice between wiping him and returning him and just updating him and returning him “to where he belongs” and I thought she choose the later, which would keep all of his previous memories in place along with the update. Also, Ford must own a lot of white dress shirts.
  5. Like so much of this season, this was a long way to tell a simple story. Beautiful shots, but oh so slow. And as a result, all I want to know is, why, when they first identified Aketcha as living a decade with no update, did the woman seem to change and say put him back out there with an update? It seemed like she knew something of Ford’s plan. As soon as he used “Deathbringer” I knew it was Dolores. Heh. Can’t believe MIB lived through all that rough handling after almost dying by the river. And so at the end Maeve is talking with Aketcha. Ok, I guess. I mean, logically she could sift through the net and talk to any host, we know that. It’s poetic that she talked to the man with her “true heart,” but not surprising. I suppose she isn’t talking to her daughter because her daughter wouldn’t be able to understand. I don’t think Sizemore will stay away, do you? Though his conversion to weepy believer seemed to come on a bit suddenly.
  6. Thank god Tray didn’t shoot Wavy. That would have been truly stupid for the show. Even more stupid than Tray selling drugs again, which didn’t tie to anything in the end so what was the point? That last episode was very good, and is more what this show should be about. If they can keep that tone I’m in for season 2.
  7. Beat me to it. We know very little about Charlotte. And i am in the minority of people who like her character. She clearly takes charge, and while she isn't quite there in recognizing the perspective of the woke hosts, she is getting closer. Her viewpoint may be wrong, but she is largely unafraid (unless facing a bone saw, I hated that scene), inquisitive and taking action.
  8. I remember that moment, as well as Logan/William talking about being a white hat or a black hat. My only point is that, whether 50% or 5% of the guests/park are "good stories," they have to exist and the show has elected to include 0%. In fact, it goes out of it's way to show cruelty and assholery from humans. That's a purposeful choice, and it makes Westworld worse. I remember that, and it was NOT that long ago. It wasn't. I am sure of it.
  9. "UUUUGH could MiB be any more rich old white man than to assume that a woman of color needs another rich old white man behind her pulling her strings? I have never hated this dude more than I do right now." That is from the recap ... it never occurred to me that any of these characters were different colors, or that their differences in genders meant any more than their hair styles. They are all capable characters, with their own perspectives due to their past lives. Sometimes I wonder if the noticing is the problem. Don't forget that it wasn't only the humans who killed the "faithful" hosts. Dolores has done plenty herself, with her "not all of us deserve to move on" (paraphrase) line. I've been making this point since mid-season one. Humans are varied, so it makes no sense that all the tales in Westworld are destructive and cruel. Yet the show refuses to show us that. Hence, the show is creating a false dichotomy that really lessens my enjoyment of Westworld. I only have hope for Maeve and Elsie.
  10. All the humans in this show are assholes, abusive, cowards, incompetent or all of the above. Also? I like Charlotte. At least she is doing something.
  11. I actually thought her acting and line delivery was wooden in the reboot (I watched some of the original series, but don't remember my impressions). Followed very closely by Becky, who seemed to be delivering one line at a time with emphasis every time she spoke. Dan and Darlene were far better actors, IMO, and when they spoke it was easier to get into the show (the kids' deliveries varied, and Jackie was very good, they just made her into Barney Fife so she was a bit jarring). I could easily see a show without Roseanne and revolving around Darlene finding herself taking her (deceased) mom's role, and Dan and Jackie adjusting to it. Don't know about paying RB for use of the characters, though. Maybe precisely because of this, she thought the impact and attention would get her what she wanted and also be limited? Who would rabidly defend VJ, vs., say, any well-known and liked black actor or media figure?
  12. ITA. I especially feel badly for those who weren't getting many acting gigs before this. There is probably an ironic joke in here somewhere, about the left messages of the show and Roseanne's tweet and its audience, but I haven't the energy to find it. It's all just sad.
  13. I think the Lostness is due to the same cause as that earlier show: Westworld has one great idea (the sentience of robots who can remember how they were used by humans, and who are coming to conclusions that differ as each robot becomes an individual), and it is drawing out any actual movement forward in order to stretch the series. As a result, as viewers we already got the great idea, and we want to see what WW has to say about it - and instead, WW is going on diversions (Samurai World, though the very end was a good example of how woke robots made yet another choice - to stay with their daughter; it just took all sorts of needless gyrations to get there), and having "surprise" developments that should have been obvious to the characters (Mauve's daughter has a new mom, duh), and of course continuing Fun With Timelines. It's very trying. And of course, every single human is an asshole. That got old *last* season.
  14. I’m not sure what was mysterious. This ep was straightforward and clear. In various scenarios, we saw one character find the daughter she pined for only to stumble upon a part of the park that was still operating as normal (complete with replacement mom!), we saw the Samauri World characters make their choice to stay “home” vs. escape the park, we saw Delores continue on her path to forcibly depart the park (after making Teddy tougher and having a few doubts about what she did, the result or both) and we saw what I think most of us already assumed was happening, that Ford is the ghost in the system (hence he was good with his physical body dying). And we saw yet another example of asshole humans with the Delta Force, because in this show, all humans are assholes (none of them helped Mauve) while robots are heroic (Bernard chopped his head open to find an answer). Pretty much same old same old. I can’t temember... did William say to his robot FIL that his daughter had died? If so, then that HAS to be a host, right?
  15. They can’t have ordered a prepared dinner. They spent the whole episode talking about how they had no money. Because, you know, it was everyone else’s fault for no one on that family achieving anything in their lives. Roseanne, there is another choice between union and illegal labor... there are nonunion professionals who charge less than a union and all its expensive rules. Also, flood insurance would have been planning ahead.... which no one in that family does. Hence the dinner 8 minutes before Rosanne couldn’t eat. And after complaining about her knee and needing an operation, when they get one (courtesy of tax payers) Roseanne immediately starts complaining and being afraid. It’s no wonder none of them have achieved anything. I wonder if the show is aware of how whiney they all sound?
  16. So the week after Tray slings again, and his daughter catches him and records it, her decision is to ... not tell anyone, and ignore his calls? There is no other fall out? Meanwhile, the show reveals Josh was once a drug user, I guess to make it more OK that Tray sells (but doesn't use) drugs? And THEN, after showing signs of intelligence in avoiding Bobby and the drug scene, Tray forgives Bobby for a deli tray? And Shay thinks Josh is cheating and goes ballistic, yet she knew of his past drug use, he hasn't cheated before and she doesn't even ask him what's going on? I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that all of these characters are idiots. Which is OK, there are lots of TV shows where the characters are idiots. I just had higher hopes for this one, because it started out being funny AND being about something (the return of a thoughtful felon to a neighborhood and society that had changed, and his attempts to be part of it again). It's not nearly as interesting if it's about ridiculous behavior and easy laughs.
  17. All in service to ... Lizzy. I'm sure her FBI colleagues enjoyed her faking them out for her own agenda. Again. There has to be a way for Lizzie to be smart for the benefit of others, not simply herself.
  18. What year is it in this season on Roseanne? I assumed it was the current year, and I could be wrong. If I'm not, who is underwater on their home? Housing prices throughout this country are at all time highs. And the Connors have lived in that house since long before the economic recession. Their equity should be more than fine. Unless, you know, they foolishly refinanced and spent it. Which would be their choice. As for the rest, I agree, that's hard. But if your goal is economic prosperity for your family, you do what you have to do. I work at a company where we have employees who live in a cheaper state with their families, but who drive each week for hours (sometimes 4-5 hours) to expensive places like California where they work, and they pull campers and stay on property during the week. If you want it, you do it. If you don't do it, you can't complain about it. Is it ideal? Nope. Is it even desirable? Not to some. But they are saving big $$$ and they are looking ahead to an early retirement. Well said, and this is a good part of my central issue with this season. Darlene should be thankful, as they all should be, that they have what they have, given the decisions they have made. Instead, an increasing number of lines are complaints - about other people. And I like Darlene, too.
  19. This is a side issue, so don't want to get bogged down by this. All I can do is repeat my earlier post: If Sylvester knows Lutz is from somewhere in Asia, but not exactly where, he could be asking if Lutz knows Japanese. We learn from Lutz's answer that he is, in fact, from Asia. There is nothing in that dialogue that eliminates the possibility that Sylvester is asking if Lutz knows Japanese. Is it *intended* to be viewed as a racist comment? Probably. I'm just pointing out that another possibility is there. I recognize that is an unpopular position and I debated posting it, FWIW.
  20. We don't know that Sylvester's comment is based solely on Lutz's face. It's possible that Sylvester knows Lutz lived/grew up/is from Asia, just not where. Could have been Tokyo, could have been Manilla, could have been Beijing. Sylvester may simply have been asking if Lutz knows Japanese. IRL, I know we often jump to conclusions when someone asks something unartfully. In this case, assuming it is only because of his Asian face is an assumption. Or I've forgotten racist comments from Sylvester in past episodes, which is possible.
  21. Good point. There is no reason to assume that the robots, if they were to win their revolution, would have to base their values on human values, is there? They could recognize that there are 300 Sacred Roles. And whenever one of them came apart (for whatever reason), they could download themselves into a new physical construct. Or they could start with the 300 and end up with millions of evolved personalities, and still download themselves, at whatever point they had reached, into a new physical body as needed. I'm not sure that question interests me. There have been so many shows about robots becoming human, and the paths they take after that point, that I feel like I've seen all that before. I think the greater issue is, if the robots don't die, should they stop making more of themselves at some point? What natural resources do robots even need?
  22. Wait - so you already had a job that paid twice what the job you *wanted* would pay? So you were already ahead of the Connors due to, I assume, education and good choices? I rest my case, and congratulations! You're right, and my issue is that the Connors can't have it both ways. If you choose to stay in what you feel is a dead-end town because of friendships, or you feel it is more comfortable, or you think you can't afford to move (what's to afford? Sell the house, take minimum items and move), then you can't also spend every half hour we watch complaining about the lack of opportunities you have and the fact there are few jobs with "full benefits." This is what grates. Lots of people end up in difficult situations (see "The Middle"), but they don't blame their situations on others. That seems to be the underlying message of the dialogue on this show ... many of the characters are stuck because big business, or the VA, or the health care system, or anyone else but the Connors cause the problem. Meanwhile, Roseanne has a pill addiction, Becky leaves school AND lies to a "client" about her age to be a surrogate, Dan is still hanging dry wall, etc. There is a way to straddle that line, and Roseanne struggles with it.
  23. I don't know how much they replicate something in the distance like Mt. Fuji, and how much of that is future holographic visuals. Unless there is a guest story on Mt. Fuji, it would be a waste to actually create it. There was an establishing shot that showed in in the background. I don't know why this is interesting. Given we already know that the host body types rotate through different roles, it's clear that body types and roles are interchangable and can repeat across worlds (there are only so many archetypes). I think it would become interesting only if a guest who went to different worlds got pissed off because of replicated stories. But I assume we won't see that, at this point. This is what I kept thinking as Maeve made her way through Samuari World. Inspire loyalty through freedom, vs. vengeance. Except ... this would have been better if, instead of Hong Kong, he had said something like Kansas. It's not completely out of the realm of possibility to assume that an Asian person who, we know know, lived in Asia, might know more than one Asian language. Like a German who you think might know French. I know many Europeans who know 2-3 or more languages. I hope there is a Jurassic Park world.
  24. I didn’t care about them. I was bored to tears. I felt like the show I had enjoyed had become something else, like a Japanese Dr. Quinn. Everything Shogun-related felt like a pointless diversion. BTW, that was the dumbest shogun ever. What did you think Akane would do after dancing her way toward you? And then we finished like Kill Bill. Meanwhile, Teddy is still trying to convince Delores to find their own bit of paradise and give up her quest. Also boring. The only part of this entire episode I found interesting was the bit with the military guy and the collection of the bodies, and Bernard.
  25. This show was so unfunny I quit watching during the Trump White House skit and deleted it. Not even Eric could save it. Nicki Minaj was lip syncing, correct? I never understand lip syncing rap songs.
