  1. I just read a run-down on all the guests on Hamsterwatch, and was amazed that the youngest is 34. Most are considerably older.
  2. I agree. I hate clutter. It makes me feel panicky and overwhelmed. But I also feel uncomfortable in stark, minimalist rooms. I love to have lots of interesting, beautiful (to me) objects in my home, to make it cozy and expressive of who I am. It's all about creating order out of chaos, really, and order can look very cozy. I don't know if I agree that Kondo-ing our possessions is privileged or classist. I've lived at both ends of the economic spectrum, and when it comes to valuing what you own, and keeping your possessions streamlined and in order, I just don't think it makes a difference. Where I live, between the thrift shops, yard sales and dollar stores, not to mention friends and family just giving you stuff, it's easy to become overwhelmed by possessions even if you're below the poverty line. (Speaking from past experience.)

  4. I always wonder how high-energy, giant personalities like Anthony S. will fare when trapped in the BB house with so many other big personalities. The train wreck potential seems enormous. Then again, Omorosa did very well last season. She actually behaved quite normally and the whole house got along relatively harmoniously. Man, people are unpredictable.
  5. I can't lie. There isn't a single person who I can say about, "Oh! I like them!" Either I've never heard of them, or I have bad associations with them. Open mind! Open mind! (That's me talking to me.) For some reason I have a prejudice against athletes. Maybe because I was hopeless at sports and got teased by the athletic students a fair bit. I generally find them scarily disciplined and don't get their humour. Hopefully, these ones will prove me wrong.
  6. Wow, there must be something wrong with me but I really liked the first family and thought they were sweet. Did I even watch the same episode as everyone else? I have no issue with people who didn't like them, found them annoying, thought they were bound for divorce, etc. I'm just amazed at how different people perceive the same thing so differently. I guess we all see things through the prism of our own lives and experiences. Did anyone but me think they were a nice, loving family?
  7. Thanks for that! Oh my. What a....diverse group. (I'm trying to be nice. I promised to keep an open mind.)
  8. Maybe this is why even celebs we expect to hate can be interesting to watch and even likeable on these shows. (Although not always.) They're surrounded by people who are as famous or perhaps more famous than them, in a weird environment that takes them way out of their comfort zone. It can really humanize some of them. Also, it's 24/7 so they can't always project a fake persona. Also, famous people presumably love attention, or they wouldn't be celebrities, but they can't all be monsters, especially when they're just starting out. There must be something charismatic and entertaining about them, or they wouldn't have become even D list celebrities. (This might not apply to athletes who are famous mainly for their physical talents.) I'm actually pumped for the new Celebrity Psychology class (a/k/a CBB2) to begin, mainly because we get to come here every day to discuss all the specimens. I mean houseguests.
  9. I'm another one who's never heard of Johnny Bananas. But wasn't there a guy last year on CBB who was some kind of singer/Internet personality who everyone dreaded and who actually turned out to be quite fun? I'm totally blanking on his name.
  10. I had to Google half of that list. There's no one on the list I'm excited to see, although I suspect Sean Spicer might be interesting. Then again, I'm embarrassed to admit I watched several seasons of The Surreal Life and found it bizarrely fascinating, so I'll go into this with an open mind.
  11. Wow, kirklandia, that's an amazing article! I love the line, "There's a fine line between bestow and burden".
  12. It's so weird. I'm not a touchy-feely or new agey person in the least, and yet silently thanking my things as I let them go has been wonderful for me. When I sold the house I grew up in recently after my dad's death, I went from room to room, mentally thanking each room and letting it go. Pure Marie Kondo. I'd be embarrassed to tell anyone about it, but it made the process so much easier and less painful. It gave me a feeling of completion I guess. So I appreciate this show and seeing others go through the process. I can also tell which people on the show just don't get it, and are struggling with deep hoarding issues.
  13. Well put! I agree that Marie Kondo is pretty kooky but she's helped me a lot. In particular, the above mentioned method of thanking things and letting them go. It's bizarrely helpful, because as you say, the items are inanimate and don't care what we do, but it's really helped me let go of both sentimental or useful items and the inexplicable guilt I feel over getting rid of them. So far I've really enjoyed the show, which as someone noted is like Hoarders without the tragic mental illness. But I'm feeling pretty anxious watching the Matti son episode because the wife has very strong hoarder tendencies. You can tell that she doesn't get the joy concept at all. To her, joy is keeping everything. Marie Kondo isn't really equipped for her. And her husband seems really upset about it. It's uncomfortable to watch.
  14. Great thread title! (I haven't seen this episode yet, so not much else to add. I'll be back later no doubt.)
  15. As previously noted, I have no political opinion on Sean Spicer. However, I did appreciate that he was able to laugh at himself, when I heard that at the first press conference after Melissa McCarthy's hysterical skit on SNL, he was planning to take out one of those super water blasters and pretend to shoot the reporters with it. Sadly he was told not to do it. I mean yes, it would have been very unprofessional, but I'll bet the reporters and viewers would have loved it. Either way, no matter what you think of him, he must have a good sense of humour. And that makes for a great BB guest.
  16. I remember in the old days at TWOP posters could start threads themselves. Sometimes they were deleted, but other times they remained. Could you start the All episodes thread yourself? (I'd look into it, but I haven't had enough coffee yet)
  17. There are several people on that list I really don't want to see on the show. Then again, I felt like that about a couple of people in the last CBB and ended up enjoying the season a lot. It was funny, because I was sure that the season would be endless battling egos and giant personalities who didn't have an Off switch, and oddly, it didn't work out like that. I suppose celebrities got to be celebrities by knowing how to behave on camera, and knowing what their audience wants. Thankfully, they kept things pleasant and fun, without a huge amount of ego or bitterness. Or sleaziness. Either way, I can't lie. I'll be watching every second. (No offense to Sean Spicer, but how surreal would it be to watch him getting covered with slime and throwing himself in front of Otev? The absurdity and ridiculousness of this image is one of the reasons I won't miss an episode.) (FYI, that was not a political comment! I just love weird juxtapositions.)
  18. Hee. So many crime shows! So little time!
  19. While I agree that James' wife didn't act very alpha, I can't disagree with her excuse that she acted out of fear. Given what he did to Nick, who knows what he might have done to her or their children if she'd made him mad. Him going to prison was a best case scenario for the 3 of them, sadly.
  20. Good recap! So much crazy. You left out the part where James made his wife serve supper to Jessica and treat her like a guest. Hearing that, I lost all sympathy for Jessica. What on earth was her game? I guess I thought James shot Nick because of jealousy related to Jessica? Or something? But I guess that doesn't make sense. Let's all get together and write the screenplay. Now who should play Jessica? In the first photo of her, she was startlingly pretty. So we'll need an actress who can play both attractive and crazy. Blake Lively? (I just saw her in a movie playing a gorgeous, but crazy and vengeful woman.) Judging by his dating history, Nick could obviously turn on the charm in a big way for at least 6 months. Lookswise he was pretty average. It appears that at any given time, only the woman he was currently charming liked him. Everyone else thought he was a jerk. Not sure who should play him.
  21. Yeah, that episode was insanely convoluted and twisted. It would make a great movie. I still don't have the whole story straight in my head, but it would be fun to watch a fictionalized version. It's weird how the final girlfriend is still idolizing and idealizing Nick. According to his track record, if he'd lived, by now they'd be split up and she'd be furious with him. Something that I really dislike about Dateline is how they keep having little popup questions, like "Who do you think killed Nick?" or "How would you feel if someone poisoned your child?" They post the questions before we actually find out much info. I find it annoying because seriously, what is the value in anyone's answer to these questions? Who even cares? In a way, it's sort of patronizing, as if the show thinks putting their 2 cents in will somehow make viewers feel important or like they're part of things. Surely most viewers can see how pointless these questions are. Also, it makes the crime seem a bit like a game, staged for our entertainment. I suppose there's some truth in that, but I'd rather they not rub it in so much.
  22. What fooled me was the way Chris seemed so relaxed and then asked the interrogator to promise not to tell Joe what he'd said about him, as if he had zero idea Joe was dead. It just seemed so natural. It seemed inconceivable that someone could be like that, knowing they'd contracted the murder. But there you go. People are infinitely unpredictable.
  23. I can't disagree. The mother's behaviour and affect were so odd. In one way she seemed like someone who could come across as charming and quirky, but at the same time, you have to wonder if there was some kind of personality disorder at work. The family seemed sort of resigned to it. Speaking of personality disorders, I was really shocked that Chris turned out to be guilty. I thought his behaviour in the initial interview was pretty Oscar winning. Hardly what you'd expect from someone who had been plotting for years. No wonder it took them so long to put the pieces together.
  24. I just watched The Favourite Son. The whole show was really interesting and surprising but Joe's mother most of all. What a unique personality! I feel like there's so much more to her than what we even saw. She also looked like an older Meg Tilly.
