  1. So you might not like this answer, but yes it’s shifting. It’s NOT going to be straight comedy. This article explains the direction they are taking. https://www.google.com/amp/s/variety.com/2019/tv/news/sara-gilbert-roseanne-conners-family-ties-michael-j-fox-1203231632/amp/
  2. Sorry back to Darlene’s hair that was mentioned earlier looking like a rats nest lol, Sara Gilbert was literally running around the lot and the studio right before filming getting her workout in and looks like they didn’t fix it. I guess that’s the beauty of the show, looking like a hot mess is a thing. I’ve seen Emma walk into the studio looking stylish and beautiful and then they take off her makeup and cute clothes so she looks more like a Conner.
  3. Aren’t Trader Joe’s everywhere now? I’m guessing he got the job bc he is a really good artist.
  4. It should tell her something that even Jackie can see how screwed up this is.
  5. Lol- I don’t think it’s that bad. But she could use a change. It’s been exactly the same for 3 seasons.
  6. I agree the love triangle thing needs to end soon. I’m not quite as hard on Darlene bc I know this is a tv show and I can make allowances that I wouldn’t in real life- but she should just grow up about it and be honest with both guys. Even the way she was explaining that she needs to figure out who she wants to spend the rest of her life with.... like that is a joint decision and also she doesn’t HAVE to spend the rest of her life with one or another. I’m still leaning towards David being endgame. Just the way the first scene was structured, you saw that nuclear family all together for the first time I believe. Not that it means anything by itself but I guess I honestly don’t see how David will be around being a great dad and partner, he and Darlene still love each other, they apparently still have amazing sex (in their words, and this was brought up last season too), and she will have a successful relationship with someone else. So yeah. It’s either gonna be David or polyamory, as Jackie indicated lol. This episode is one of my absolute favorites. I always love seeing Mark- he is such a doll. Also Ames was still 11 when this was filmed (he just had his 12th birthday a couple of days ago), and he is such a great actor already. I think the story of the kiss was very important to show and also his reaction after. We haven’t really seen him struggle bc he is such a ball of sunshine (I love this contrasted with Darlene’s depression wardrobe), my eyes got watery when he was taking off his nail polish. I love how his parents supported him 1000%. After taping Johnny went over to Lecy to give her a hug and tell her how amazing she did, but she was too busy hugging Ames and telling him how amazing HE did. It was adorable to watch. You can tell this cast loves to be around each other. (Another cute story- Johnny brought Emma her water bottle at one point, which isn’t anything extraordinary but it was like he was really her dad haha). Laurie cracked me UP this episode!!! Omg she is so funny!! I felt like every single line she said was a winner. And her obsession with Ben lmao. I don’t think the last scene was her fantasy, I think Ben was just being funny and a good spirit. Ok Dan and Mark is everything to me. I LOVE how much he loves and supports his grandson. And you can tell how fond John is of Ames. You see a wee tad of Ames’s reaction when John said “you don’t have chickens, *I* have chickens”. At the taping this was much longer and it just John having a great time with Ames and it was SO cute to watch. And Dan and Becky!!!! My heart!!! That was such a sweet and funny and CONNER story he told her- it was perfect. God I love this family so much.
  7. It’s because the original adults were younger than the current group- they started in their 30s and ended in their mid-40s. The “kids” are staring in their mid-40s, so they look like what the cast would have looked like if the show had continued on.
  8. I still love this episode as much as when I saw it filmed- which is a lot.
  9. Oh yeah!! Now I remember. They really do need therapy don’t they? Lol
  10. True. I do like the fact that he is working now at Trader Joe’s as a chalkboard artist. Not the most glamorous job but seems to be a good fit for him. I seem to recall an episode where he got the opportunity to study art in Europe but Darlene told him not to go. I can’t remember what happened in the end but I get the feeling he never went.
  11. Didn’t he just bail that one time? Of course that was a pretty big bail lol
  12. I think she has chemistry with Johnny Galecki I just wish he didn’t look like such a bum. He used to be a snazzy dresser (for the 90s haha).
  13. Why can’t Harris be more like Emma?!? 💗
  14. Agreed- I think Darlene had a valid point. And Dan had an even more valid point. I actually loved this moment between them. It felt messy and real.
  15. Hmm... well Becky was a waitress before, but now she wants to be the bartender. Interesting that we will finally see one of Harris’s friends. We have seen a few of Mark’s but that’s it. I would love a scene of just the grandchildren alone a few times.
  16. Oh I agree. I’m actually pretty surprised this is the case. I will say the episode I watched (which is next weeks episode) seemed to be a lot tighter than the one that I saw last year. But it really feels like they are writing the episodes more like an hour long dramedy then a sitcom. And actually that reminds me of something else I wanted to mention. Attending these tapings doesn’t feel like watching another sitcoms being filmed- bc the audience loves this show and these characters. We want to know what is happening next and we care about their lives. The warm up guy had to remind us to audibly react bc he said we are so intensely watching what is going on that we get immersed versus providing an adequate laugh track. And that was exactly my experience. Strangely too invested. And I’m wondering if the writing is falling the same way. For example- Harris’s “burn” towards Darlene about never being around. If Becky or Darlene has said that to Roseanne back in the day, the audience would have “ooooh”d it. But in this? Complete silence. At home watching it feels like it fell flat. But I’m betting the audience didn’t react bc they wanted to know what happened next and not miss anything. (Well that, or this was the 3rd or 4th take lol). Hopefully as the season goes on, the writing gets tighter and tighter. I feel like the cast has way more confidence this time around too.
  17. Whats bizarre is they could have easily made her older- she was actually supposed to be in her 20s anyway. But I guess they wanted someone who still had to answer to their parents.
  18. Having been to a couple of tapings, I can say they film a LOT for the Conners. To me it seems almost like half of what they film doesn’t end up in the show. They definitely film a lot more DJ but his scenes are the first to go. The same thing might be happening with Harris.
  19. Yup- I feel like maybe they should base some of Harris off of Emma Kenney’s real life personality. I saw an interview where she was talking about astrology and she was just so cute. Also she tends to really look at characters (introvert vs extrovert, the quote I posted about David above), just a very curious and analyzing girl. Let’s see some of that versus just this gruff “gotta do all the bad things for reasons” character.
  20. Just for kicks I went back to see how far along Darlene was when she gave birth to Harris and they said she was 28 weeks along.
  21. Well it definitely makes sense to have The Conners go up against those other big shows versus something else. 👍
  22. I just saw The Conners came in 3rd for viewership last night. I hope the numbers improve as the season goes on.
  23. Regarding Harris, I thought of a way they could possibly address her bratty teen self- had to search for this interview I read a few days ago. I definitely don’t want her whole arc to be “daddy issues”, but possibly if some of her conflict within David is addressed, maybe we can see a different side of her? As for how David and Harris’ relationship will evolve over Season 2, Kenney hopes her character can find common ground with her previously absentee father. “[Harris] sees things more realistically rather than how David sees things in kind of a dreamy world and tries to take the best out of everything. I think that Harris definitely has a soft spot in her heart for her dad because he’s her dad and I don’t think she knows him the way that she wants to. It’s probably a little bit of an unattainable relationship.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/decider.com/2019/09/23/the-conners-season-2-interview-lecy-goranson-michael-fishman-emma-kenney/amp/
  24. Isnt that Mark though? At any rate, the good thing is they can start writing her differently at any point. Darlene herself went from tomboy to emo to pure snark to what we see today which is a surprisingly open and sweet mom even thought she still has her quirks. But I don’t know if they care enough to do so.
  25. I agree with this. She is too typical annoying teenager. I adore Mark, he’s so refreshing, but Harris needs more depth.
