Ratings and Scheduling: Who's the fairest of them all?
Souris replied to Serena's topic in Once Upon A Time
I've started watching on DVR after the godawful 4x05 so I can hit the FF button if Regina scenes get too annoying for me. I do think the 2-hour "event" followed by a week off made some people think it was over until spring. -
Spoiler Discussion: The apple was poisoned?!

Oh, God, and then Regina will be the one to Tell All to Emma, thereby saving the day yet again and proving what a wonderful and changed person she is, to restore Emma's love to her when that awful Emma took hers away by bringing back Marian! ::head desk:: -
Speculation WITHOUT Spoilers: Lalalalala! I can't hear you!
Souris replied to regularlyleaded's topic in Once Upon A Time
I'm wondering if, when Rumple drops Hook's heart (crushed or not) into the hat, and the spell doesn't go as he thinks it will (because I think that's probably a given), all the hatted beings will come out, including the Apprentice -- who will be holding Hook's heart and will restore it to him. And that will be yet another thing the show doesn't let Emma accomplish when it's set up to be her. I'm feeling particularly cynical today. Ugh, there were a lot of clauses in that first sentence. -
They are vaulting and doing flips like Olympians. Emma was just using Hook to make Regina jealous because she's really in love with her, so it's proof they're endgame. For serious. I kid not.

Rumple gave him some sort of magical sparkly dirt to sprinkle on the door.

She needs to scream that in Regina's face every episode. They can't let Robin see the EQ, because it would make him look EVEN WORSE for still mooning over her. I really don't think they know what the hell to do with Will. I think they haven't even thought about him and just stuck him in 4A to keep him tied to the show because they like him. But they don't know what they're doing with him. Given the writers, I was expecting this ep to be awful. So it was definitely better than I expected. But it wasn't great. It was kind of a throwaway. That felt very, very off. Realistically, people would be HORRIFIED at what they had done and said to their friends and loved ones. Not giggle like loons. It would be very awkward as people processed what happened. Belle's worst self is really sleepy? Oh, come, you know Regina's hate for Emma is really LOVE. ::eye roll:: Ingrid's life and story felt very tragic to me. She did really bad things and was twisted and crazy, but I felt sympathy for her. And she atoned in the end. They managed to do that with her in a short time -- why can't they accomplish that with Regina? Is it because they try way too hard to make her the poor victim in spite of her crimes, so it just feels forced? But, yeah, Ingrid, help your "sister" Emma out before you die and let her know about Rumple's plans for the town and her boyfriend. I sincerely hope that Belle overheard Rumple's villain monologuing. Could we not get a "Where's Killian?" from Emma at the end? Sheesh. It felt like there were more commercial breaks than usual this ep.

Fandom and Viewer Issues: "Fan" Is Short for "Fanatic"
Souris replied to Emma's topic in Once Upon A Time
I don't get this, either. The cynical part of me wonders if it's simply a way to keep SQ fans watching the show and counting in the ratings. Or maybe they're so scared of the homophobic label that they bend over backwards to cultivate/placate SQ shippers without actually changing their vision and doing it on the show. They won't even call out SQ (or other) fans who clearly act like bullies online, instead thanking them for their "passion." I'm sorry, passion doesn't excuse rudeness and bullying. (But, then again, they let Regina get away with it on the show, so....) I think that continuing to do things like tag #SQ or promote eps as SQ or tease it in interviews when it's not going to happen in a romantic sense on the show is total queerbaiting. And I find that disrespectful to both SQ lovers and SQ haters alike. They may have alluded in the past to SQ not happening on the show, but I feel like they need to say it forcefully again. If they say it enough, maybe it will finally sink in. -
I’ve decided that I think Mulan and Marian should get together. They’re both kick-ass women who are in need of a happy ending. The only way Sleeping Warrior is going to happen is if Philip dies, and I don’t really want that to happen. So Mulan should get a new love interest. And Marian is awesome and deserves better than Robin. Mulan is supposedly a part of the Merry Men (despite being AWOL), and I think Marian was probably their real leader from the start, since she has real conviction and Robin is such a feckless, weak tool. So Warrior Maid for the win!

Fandom and Viewer Issues: "Fan" Is Short for "Fanatic"

Obviously people can ship whatever they want, but when they start demanding of the writers and actors that their fanon ship become canon, that's taking it way too far. And if it's a same-sex pairing, their fans calling anybody who doesn't support it homophobic is disgusting and offensive to me. I feel like some fans wield social issues like homophobia and rape culture simply as a weapon to bludgeon other shippers with; it's really about the ship rather than the issue, which IMO ends up trivializing very real issues. SQ fans throw out the homophobia accusation all. the. time. -
Killian Jones/Captain Hook: One Handed Pirate With A Drinking Problem

Ah, I thought I was the only one who doesn't find Hook and Spike similar! A lot of people compare them, but I just don't see it. -

OMG, that's hysterical! I now want them wreaking drunk havoc all over Storybrooke. -

I think Scott Nimerfro is treading in turbulent waters and making things more turbulent. Given what he's written for the show (4x05 was atrocious!) and his Twitter history (like retweeting that young Emma & Lily should kiss and his vocal SQ support), I'm definitely not a fan. We'll see what his ep Sunday, with another newbie writer, brings, but from what I've seen, I'm not optimistic. I don't think he's a positive addition to the staff at all. Bringing in other writers to his discussions is very unprofessional, IMO. And when your boss has to go online to clarify/try to explain your tweets, that's not good. I think he seems full of himself and self-promoting. He even tweeted that his ep Sunday is "the best!" I mean, WTF? Who says shit like that? And "Hope ALL enjoy this Sunday's episode of OUAT. It's a "mouthy" romp with lots of snark, sass, and swords. Thx!" Plus he said he didn't like Orphan Black, so his opinions are clearly wrong and twisted, LOL! ;) -
I is for the Ice wall that Ingrid made appear in the Storybrooke harbor.

I wish Snow didn't feel guilty about killing Cora, but why would she beg Regina to kill her back then if she didn't? -
Now I'm remembering Colin sitting beside her at the Fan Favorites panel and looking ever so slightly overwhelmed when she really got going.

Killian Jones/Captain Hook: One Handed Pirate With A Drinking Problem
Souris replied to Arandil's topic in Once Upon A Time
Well, they said sexiest, and as great as DH was in Hook, I'm not sure I'd call him sexy! I haven't even read the VF thing yet, but it sounds stupid and badly done, as people seem confused about the ordering and inane comments. I suspect their comment page may be in for some comments from Once Hookers! -

A scene breakdown of what was filmed yesterday: 1st scene: Cruella and Ursula getting chased by Emma and David 2nd scene: MM and David loading stuff in the truck and Emma comes. 3rd scene: Cruella and Ursula coming out of Granny’s and walks passed Hook and Emma (who was on their way to Granny’s) and then David comes out to talk to Emma. 4th scene: Mr. Gold by himself 5th scene: Mr. Gold, Belle, and Will -
I suspect that they wanted Hook to be a regular but also wanted to be sure that chemistry worked out with Colin. He was made a regular really quickly, before his first ep aired. And there had to be some time in there for agent negotiation, too, so it was even quicker than the announcement. I think the beanstalk was a big chemistry test for Colin and JMo, and they passed, so TPTB pulled the regular trigger.

That's a favorite argument/insult of some SQ fans, too. Real-person shipping makes me SO uncomfortable. Real-people shipping when one or both of the people are not even of the sexual persuasion to make it feasible, or if one or both of the people are married/in a relationship majorly skeevs me out. I admit that there are some celebs who are dating/married where I think, "Oh, they're so cute together!" Or if a celeb couple splits up and I think, "Dang it, that's sad." It's kind of like how I would feel about random people I vaguely know in real life; it's a general desire of mine for people I like to be happy. But mentally putting nonromantic couples together -- no. I don't think it's particularly healthy. It makes the objects of the shipping into, well, objects rather than real people, which I think is a problem of celebrity culture, anyway. -

I hope the king isn't Arthur, because they've already got so many characters in 4B. If they're doing Arthurian legend, I want them to do it properly, not as a throwaway (which is what they did with Lancelot, which still bugs me). Tossing Arthur in a half a season when they already have Cruella, Ursula and Maleficent is just too much IMO. I also don't want Blackbeard to be Hook's father, because: 1) Hook was old enough when his father abandoned him to remember what he looked like; and 2) There would have to be some contrived reason why Blackbeard was also able to stay alive and not age for 300 years. If we must have Blackbeard, I prefer him as a foil to Hook, not a relative. I'm all for Davy Jones as Hook's father, though! -

TVLine on Hook's predicament and a king being cast. (ETA: Oops, sorry, didn't see it had been posted already.) Maybe Belle will find Emma’s phone while locked up in the shop and hear the message. And there were BTS filming shots of Hook, Rumple and Belle together from a scene we haven’t seen yet. Since we’re supposed to get more backstory for Robin (zzzzzz) in 4B, maybe the king is Richard or John. (Though as you know, I would prefer they not use REAL historic personages like Blackbeard in the show, but it seems inevitable with the Robin backstory.) I’m sure it’s not the case, but I’d like the king to be the corrupt king that Killian and Liam served.
