The actors all look great but this just seemed clunky and forced to me.
It didn't seem that way. Thought it was ok.

Is this show coming back? I want more Benny!
Word. Too funny.
Definitely. Benny is adorable.

Really liked tonight's episode. Jim was great and I loved how Corky kept on trying to interview Pence lol.

Just found an old quote that Raymond made:
"People would say: 'Is he sleeping with Della Street, and if not, why not?"' Burr said this year. "Fifty percent of them want him to, and 50 percent don't want him to. I try to play both 50 percents."

Found it before in an interview, glad to have found it again.

Just found this good article: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/barry-kibrick/schlemiel-schlimazel-hase_b_8512356.html
A bit about the history of part of the Laverne and Shirley theme song.

Oh no. I’m shocked. I loved her raspy voice, her sometimes unintelligible manner of speaking and her body of work. RIP great lady.
Same here. RIP Penny Marshall.

Another one from the screaming-vocalist archives: Scoff by Nirvana.
What he's actually saying: "Heal a million, kill a million"...what I hear: "Heal Neil Young, kill Neil Young."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3M0gvrdkrbQ
Also "Apologize" by OneRepublic. The line goes "it's too late to 'pologize" but my husband thought it said "it's too late to form a child" and the song was about trying for pregnancy at an older age.
I hear that too!

Lately my comfort tv has been: Will & Grace, Murphy Brown, the Conners and Double Dare (so sue me, I really like Marc Summers corny jokes :p).

I grew up in Canada where they only focused on the history of Quebec and a little bit on the history of Canada. I wanted to take world history my senior year but not enough people signed up for the class and it was cancelled. I took typing instead so no, I don't know a lot about the Vietnam war or WW1 or WW2, etc.
That's unfortunate :(.
Found some good info on Walter Cronkite via History.com's site and via biography.com's site.

I was at a fundraiser for Honor Flight (takes WWII vets to see their memorial in Washington for free) and a 30 something asked me 1) who the US fought against in WWII and 2) was WWII before or after Vietnam. Appalling and sad to think these world changing wars are so easily forgotten.
I bet 90% of those who didn't live those nightmare years of Vietnam have no knowledge of Cronkite and his impact on that war. After all, it wasn't on Facebook or Twitter so how important could it have been?
Was fortunate to have teachers who taught us about the Vietnam War, Walter Cronkite and so on, and I still appreciate learning more and more about the history itself.

1 hour ago, iMonrey said:I thought this episode perfectly encapsulated what's wrong with the show. The dialogue was so clunky and so contrived I cringed. That entire scene with Murphy, Frank and Corky sitting around at Phil's reminiscing about the good old days of journalism was like something you'd see in a sixth-grade play, where the characters each stand up and explain the meaning of Thanksgiving to the audience. The story about LBJ saying if he lost Walter Cronkite he lost the country is something I've heard a dozen times in my life. To work that into the dialogue as though it were news to anyone felt so didactic and condescending. I mean, everyone at that table knows that story like the back of their hand . . . why would anyone recite it as though nobody had ever heard it?
Too much of what the characters are saying sounds deliberately instructive, it's like they are directly channeling liberal commentary that's so stale and obvious it feels totally unnecessary. I don't need this show to teach me a lesson in civics or state the bleeding obvious about the current administration.
I enjoyed the bits with the dog and that's about it - when the script veers off its moralizing agenda it feels more like it used to back in the day. But most of the time, it's objective is about as subtle as a ton of bricks to the head.
Some of the younger generation may have not. It's not all about your generation (this is meant in a general sense). I can see why it can be viewed that way in terms of the dialogue, but in a way I can see why it needed to be mentioned. History is very soon forgotten.

I’ve neVer really liked pets on tv shows unless they are vital to the show. I view them like moonwalking bears. People are so focused on how cute the dog is that Murphy could have been murdered by Avery and the scene flashed to a “to be continuned” message and half the audience would be like “wait what...what I miss?”
Will the puppy be a vital emotional companion for Murphy now that Avery is gone? Who knows. It could just as easily disappear next episode and half the audience will be more concerned about a dog that has been on the show for two episodes then Avery.
He's a series regular, according to Diane English. So he won't be disappearing.
Loved last night's episode and am looking forward to the season finale.

In the original show, Jackie would often try to keep the kids secrets from Roseanne. She was never successful. It’s kind of amusing to see Becky in that aunt role. Couldn’t decide if Becky was seriously giving Harris drinking advice or just trying to be amusing without getting involved.
Jackie must be the least successful life coach in tne entire world. Who would take advice and encouragement from someone who cuts a turnip with a rock, and puts up with Peter?
Maybe. But it's nice to see her reach her limit with Peter. Dude is a piece of work.

Harris is so much like Becky and Darlene... it's something to see her be grounded, given their behavior when they were young lol.

I HATE Walmart with the heat of a thousand suns. Won't darken the door for any reason. Will always be a Target girl .
But Target is killin' me. I don't know where the " round round" crap started. Don't care. Just STOP. please stop!
The Target commercials have usually been fun. But damn this year, the "round, round" is brutal! Did they EVEN ask a focus group???
Yea I'm no fan of those Target ads. That said, I'm an 'any store that has a good sale' kind of person myself.

I feel like some of the declarations of "bad acting" have to do with the delivery of lines. As I watch the old seasons, the lines were quite quick and snappy. Obviously the actors are much older, move more slowly, and speak more slowly. To base criticisms on this is just age shaming. Candice has had a stroke and is 72 and still does a great job. I can totally believe that she and Avery are mother and son.
Word. I'll never get the complaints about this show. Honestly. I figure it's in part due to viewing this show through rose tinted lenses. Only seeing the show as what it was and not what it is now. Is it perfect, no, but it's not trash. The actors are doing a good job and I'm proud of that and appreciate the show as it was back then and what it is now.

This was GREAT!!!! I love Ben-Hur Benny Brown!!! Avery was SO ADORABLE in his excitement at learning they got a dog! And I loved how Mama Bear Murphy became when she learned what the “E” was for on the cages.
And now I’m worried about next week as it
OH SNAP! at Avery’s closing and final remarks with the mic drop!
Definitely. :)
SpoilerWord. But we never know with this show if that's going to be the case. It could be how they're framing things.
Really liked his closing and the mic drop there.

A couple of old interviews with George H.W. Bush feature a quote from him mentioning an old song he refers to as “I’ll Be There Ready When You Are” and I have been trying to find info on it but have had no success. Maybe he had the title incorrect? Most results are either for the theme to Friends or to Baywatch. My hunch Is he was referencing a hymn, not a theme from a tv show.
Found a version of it, in this Fox News article: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/george-h-w-bush-reflects-on-aging-and-the-importance-of-family-in-letter-to-his-children

S11.E13: Happy New Year
in Murphy Brown [V]
I didn't mind Diana at the end of it, maybe just have less of her next season.
Nah, it didn't fall flat for me. But that said, I do agree with you about the administration never showing up there. Still liked the joke for what it was though.
