  1. Do the producers bring security with them to film at the houses of the more volatile cast members? They really should start if they don't... And thanks for the info on CPS -- I was just wondering what it takes to get a child removed from a bad situation. All of the kids seem to be in obvious danger, but I think as of right now, Marissa has it the worst. At least Jace has Barb and Kaiser has Nathan's family who seem interested in him. Endtable is still young so hopefully some changes happen before she gets a little older, but Marissa seems to be entering the formative years and she has to have a pretty good understanding of what's going on. I thought she was like 11 or 12, but I think somewhere I read she's only 8 (she's just tall, which makes sense considering UBT's height). Either way, I hope things change for that poor girl. Like, hey, you can't stay with your mom or your grandparents, so you're stuck with your creepy dad. And, surprise! You get 2 step-siblings, a baby half-sister, a lazy uninterested step-mom, and your life will now be filmed and broadcast on national TV. Ugh.
  2. I agree with this. I haven't watched the second episode yet, but I've obviously seen the show before and the pitchers come from all different walks of life and financial situations. Shark Tank is for entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas, and the show, as far as I know, has never specified they have to be desperate or in danger of losing their business. I am not an entrepreneur myself, but I would guess that any good idea certainly can always use all the exposure it can get. So, even if what she was asking for was unrealistic, isn't she demonstrating that she is a good entrepreneur by taking every opportunity she can, even if all she gets out of it is exposure? Maybe she was working the system a bit, but it didn't seem like she was playing dirty or anything like that. I think anyone in her position would have taken the same opportunity. If the producers cast her, what's she supposed to do, say "oh, they probably won't go for my deal, I'd better not."? No way. She may have thought, "they might not go for my deal, but at the very least I can show my product to a ton of people and build it up a bit, and see what kind of feedback I can get from the sharks." Just my opinion. And yes, when calling a woman a gold digger, even if that's the term they regularly use on the show, they should have at least clarified it a bit. Those guys were being kind of dickish to her.
  3. Yes! I sometimes have a hard time keeping all of the names/people straight. Too many similar sounding names -- Randall, Rebecca, Kate, Kevin. And I can never remember Beth's name, I don't feel her name really suits that character. For some reason I see her as an Angela. Even Sophie...I still think, "Who?" every time she is mentioned. And I agree, they should show more of the two little girls. They're so cute and seem like good actresses.
  4. Yes, I totally felt Rebecca helping young Kate with her song was coming from a place of love. How exciting for her that her only daughter has an interest, and maybe even some talent, in something she is good at and has experience with too? I thought the dress thing was so sweet, and Rebecca was clearly excited that Kate was following in her footsteps, and hoping she could mentor her and help her. What could have been something that brought them closer together (and I'm sure that's what Rebecca was hoping for) ended up causing a lot of unnecessary resentment. I loved the shushing of the bar guests when Kate started to sing. So embarrassing, but 100% absolutely something my parents would have done. It's interesting to me, having seen a bit more of the backstory between those two, that adult Kate seems to be specifically auditioning for singing gigs in bars, exactly what Rebecca did around her same age. There are so many other directions she could go in, especially in LA -- musical theater (professional or community), take classical voice lessons and join a professional choir, commercial voiceover work, church gigs, even focusing on jazz and learning a new style. I feel like by sticking to doing cover songs at the bar is too similar a trajectory to Rebecca. Kate isn't necessarily setting herself up to get over these issues anytime soon. She'll just continue to compare herself to Rebecca and blame it all on her. And, yeah, how rude of everyone to bail on Kevin! Randall and Beth picked a totally inappropriate time to have that argument. I know Randall likes to get things off his chest, but that was a little dramatic. Kate and Toby, understood, although it would have been nice to see Kate text Kevin explaining why she had to leave, but to break a leg or something. Instead they all just ghosted the poor guy. He was probably so confused to see just his nieces and Miguel sitting there, when he arranged for them all to be in the front row. Geeze. I'm not sold on Sophie. She totally threw him under the bus reenacting his meltdown -- why would she think that was appropriate in terms of his feelings, regardless of whether or not they were on set where they had no idea who could be hanging around.
  5. Totally agree. I actually think Juliet and Garrett made a good couple. They looked good together, and they have the whole fitness thing in common. He and Kelsey had like zero chemistry, but I did feel like he and Juliet had a little spark. I mean...as much spark as two people with severely bland personalities and serious vocal fry can have. Chloe was the best part of the whole show, and considering how in the beginning they portrayed her as having these super intense rage issues, she came a long way by quietly leaving the party in the finale when she felt uncomfortable. She also moved out and found her own living situation, got a therapist...really, she's the only one who had any substantial growth over the course of the season. I wish they would have showed more of Madison's job search, or even Kelsey's modeling, or showing the girls working behind the bar when it's actually busy instead of having their friends visit and help them cut lemons when it's super dead (which I'm reasonably certain is probably a health code violation) -- SOMETHING other than them just hanging out in bathing suits and going on vacations. I really hope they introduce some more likable guys in the next season. Brandon and Garrett are okay, albeit a little boring, but Pauly and Alex are disasters. I find absolutely nothing interesting about Alex. Kind of a strange choice for the "lead", but obviously his family is paying for that. Also can I just say that when Kelsey was talking to her MOM about potentially hooking up with Alex on vacation...oh my good lord. I mean I know it's a different world out there nowadays, and I'm about 10 years older than the characters on this show, but my mom probably would have FAINTED if I even suggested such a thing in her presence. Her mom's response was funny though, "is it really that hard to not hook up with somebody?" LOL.
  6. I didn't see it either. When did they show it? As of last night's episode, she was of course still dress shopping. But admittedly, I sometimes only half-watch this show, so it's possible I missed it.
  7. The makeup would have been one thing if it were like, a birthday slumber party for kids, or another age-appropriate setting for them to play around and get creative, but for mom to present them like that in front of a bunch of adult strangers is bizarre. I know it's a different world out there nowadays, but I used to play around with kiddie makeup at home and my mom made sure I washed every last trace of it off before even riding my bike around the neighborhood, LOL. I'll admit, at first I thought it was hilarious that Jenelle wanted Olive Garden to cater her wedding. But, the more I thought about it...if she's expecting people to show up in typical, dressy wedding attire, and bring an expensive gift, and potentially appear on camera -- Olive Garden is probably not the most appropriate. I could see it working for a casual, low-budget wedding situation, or like, a graduation party maybe. But if you're flying to NY to buy a dress, AND hiring hair and makeup JUST to try on dresses (give me a break...especially for someone who is supposedly launching their own makeup line), you kind of owe it to your guests to spring for something a little nicer. On the other hand, Jenelle probably thinks Olive Garden is actually a 5-star, fancy restaurant, so I guess it makes sense.
  8. I will say, for a group of just-out-of-college, beautiful, rich kids, it's refreshing to see that none of them (off the top of my head) seem to have had any unnecessary plastic surgery. Although, I predict by next season (if there is one), the majority of the girls will have huge fake boobs. (Nothing at all wrong with fake boobs or plastic surgery, I just love how confident they are without it when they clearly could afford to do whatever they want) Some of the women, particularly the additional friends/extras/b-squad, are straight up ripped and look incredible. I just hope none of them pulls a Heidi Montag so they're unrecognizable.
  9. Is it just me, or was it weird that Leah brought her kids out at the end of her speech? They were clearly uncomfortable saying their 5 affirmations, and probably had a hard time remembering them in a strange situation. Idk...I could see doing it if the audience was a little younger, or if she maybe encouraged them to say their favorite affirmation instead of going through all of them. But telling them to repeat 5 things they share in private with their mom, in front of a room full of strangers (AND all of the cameras too) rubbed me the wrong way. I would have been terrified to do something like that at that age. That being said, I am not a mom, maybe it's good to push your kids out of their comfort zone, the whole thing just seemed unpleasant to me.
  10. I liked how the fancy mentor makeup dude just name dropped Lemonade totally out of the blue. He was talking to one of the contestants and just convoluted the conversation to be all about him. LOL
  11. I do think this theory would fit the show really well. I read earlier in this thread someone saying that teenage Kate doesn't seem to be very overweight. Maybe she was heavier as a kid, then lost some of it in high school, and after Jack dies, the eating for comfort due to her guilt begins again.
  12. I definitely thought about that, and that's a good point. But even if she didn't have a huge breakdown, she likely would have been talking to doctors, police, and/or firefighters...all that talking, at least some of that lipgloss would have been wiped off. I've done some makeup work for film/tv, so maybe I'm just too nitpick-y about that aspect and reading into it way too much. But when I was watching, I couldn't help but think, "Wow, her makeup looks really pretty. Wait...is this all happening in the same night?"
  13. One more thing I just thought of -- Jack could have been in a different room of the house that the fire hadn't reached yet, but since the rest of the house was on fire, he couldn't just go downstairs and out the front door. Maybe the door to that room was closed, and he knew if he opened it, he'd be letting in a ton of smoke/fire. He could have jumped out of a second story window, or from the roof, and died from complications from that (maybe he fell head first, or hit a tree?). Which would explain why his belongings are in such good condition. Because he wasn't actually IN the fire, he died trying to escape. I would say he jumped holding on to Kate, and he died saving her that way, but she probably would have been in the hospital in that case, and not at Miguel's. Just a thought.
  14. I agree that Rebecca did look like it was a regular day driving home. Although her expression was blank, her makeup looked *perfect*. Not what I would expect someone to look like who had just found out that their husband died and/or their house burned down. It is hard to believe she didn't have some kind of facial reaction that would have smudged her makeup or caused some of it to run/wipe off, even if she was doing her best to hold it together. It just seemed like too much perfect looking lipgloss. I know they shot this scene much later, so maybe this was just a fail for the hair and makeup department. I also agree that it's possible she didn't know the house was burned down. I have to remember how not everyone had cell phones in 1998, and if they did, it was usually just the parents, or one for the entire family. So I think it's a possibility she may not have gotten the memo on the house yet. Either way, with the belongings in the backseat, she knew *something* happened to Jack. Rebecca's makeup in that scene is REALLY throwing me off!! My original theory was that Kate asked Jack to drive her somewhere, and Kate didn't know Jack was drunk, and he got into an accident which killed him. But that wouldn't make sense, since Kate didn't look like she'd been in an accident, or a fire for that matter, when they're in Miguel's apartment. However, we do know that Jack is dead at that point because they "need to find Kevin." I do think the fire and Jack's death happened all in one night, otherwise they wouldn't have necessarily taken the dog with them to Miguel's. Although I don't think Jack died in the fire, due to the condition of his personal items in the car. As someone else mentioned -- having Jack die from something else AND a house fire all in one night is almost too much tragedy for one family to really be realistic, so I'm interested to see how it all ties together. And regarding Beth and the adoption...we all see that she doesn't seem into it, and her suggestion to adopt an older kid seems like a compromise to Randall. It's not necessarily something she wants. I wonder if they will go through with an adoption situation, Beth ends up unhappy as maybe the kid has a hard time adjusting, and she takes it out on the kid. She and Randall seem to have a dry sense of humor, but there's usually a smile or joke behind what they say. In that last episode I didn't really see her smiling much. I wonder if they're setting her up to lash out once this adoption becomes real.
