  1. Francesca 007 mentioned it several posts ago. Speaking of 007, the scene in Skyfall when Silva flirtatiously interrogates James Bond and says "There's a first time for everything" and Bond says "What makes you think this is my first time?" was sexy, but in a twisted way. On the other hand, there was nothing twisted about the sexiness of Bond and Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale.
  2. So do I. IMO, Shia Le Boeuf is just a batshit crazy douchebag whose talent-what little there actually is of it-is far exceeded by his douchery. He's like the White Kanye. As for Wendy's claim that she doesn't know why she likes him, it's called "bad taste," dear-something you're very familiar with.
  3. Paramitch: While Twilight may have technically come after Charlaine Harris' books, Sookie/Bill feels like a Twilight rip-off to me, now more than ever. If the show does to Sookie/Bill like it did to Edward/Bella in Twilight, I not only wouldn't be surprised, I'd be pissed. Re this episode, given the vigilante citizens' stupidity, Rocky aside, they deserved to be H-vamp food, as far as I'm concerned. To quote one of them, "Shit happens." About Sarah, she's not as lucky as she thinks she is, especially where men are concerned. Sarah's track record: Jason dumped her, Steve, her ex-husband, was a gay vamp American who was in love with Jason and met the True Death at Eric's hand, Gov. Burrell's dead and now her yoga instructor/fuck buddy is dead. As if Sarah's incurring the wrath of the Yokosama Corporation and possibly the Yakuza for Ms. Suzuki's death wasn't bad enough, Sarah now has Eric and Pam to worry about. Sarah's one of the people directly responsible for spiking the Tru Blood with HepV and ordering that Nora be infected with it, not to mention the Fellowship Of the Sun's involvement in Godric's fate. Godric may have willingly gone there but Eric didn't know that at the time when he first disappeared. Eric has some big scored to settle with Sarah. She may be able to outwit the Yakuza, but Eric? Not so much, I'm guessing. If the Japanese mafia don't get Sarah, then the Viking vamp will. Not me. For one thing, much of what happened to Willa was her own fault. She chose not to wear her anti-glamouring contacts the night Eric kidnapped her, she chose to tell Eric about her father's plans and she chose to let Eric turn her. That said, however, Eric's treatment of Willa post-making has been shitty at best. Eric's not only left Willa alone for months when she needed him most, it was basically because he was mourning Sylvie, which apparently, is French for "plot device." Now that Rev. Daniels has kicked Willa out for LM's sake, Willa will need Eric's help more than ever, but chances are he'll be too busy planning to go Viking on Sarah's ass to care. Bill's putting his hand over Sookie's mouth to keep her from screaming was no accident. Bill may not have meant to hurt Sookie at the time, but he hurt her anyway. I disagree. That wasn't The Authority who wanted to kill mainstreaming vamps and use humans as cattle (at least, not at first); those were the Sanguinistas. Roman, the founder of The Authority and the first sponsor of Tru Blood, believed in mainstreaming, as in having vamps and humans peacefully co-exist; the Sanguinistas, however, wanted the exact opposite. Roman believed that if vamps kept on, in his words, "act[ing] like savages," the humans would turn against them and he was right. Plenty of characters have made mistakes, but that shouldn't excuse Bill from his, whether he was high on Lilith or not. Bill wasn't solely responsible for things going bad between vamps and humans, but he was responsible nonetheless and his feeling bad about it now is too little, too late, as far as I'm concerned.
  4. Ballet is another important part of dance in film. Here are two examples: The Red Shoes is inspired by the Hans Christian Anderson story about a ballerina played by Moira Shearer who gets a pair of special ballet shoes. However, the shoes are cursed and anyone who wears them can't stop dancing. Here's the main ballet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn-v792-fkc Another great ballet is from Black Swan, with Natalie Portman's Oscar-winning performance as a troubled ballerina obsessed with winning the lead in a production of Swan Lake. This ballet shows how much her character blurred the lines between fantasy and reality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wprhePnbAc
  5. The "two shirts" scene at the end of Brokeback Mountain chokes me up everytime.
  6. And [Eric] didn't turn [sylvie] immediately? Please. Eric was put in chains after they killed Sylvie. He didn't have the opportunity to turn her. ICAM, re the first point. Eric not only blatantly defied the Authority, he told them to "fuck [themselves]," without thinking that he would be punished. I thought that Godric had taught Eric better than that. No vamp survives as long as Eric has by being stupid, which pissing off the Authority was. Eric's arrogance and Sylvie's stupidity not only got Sylvie killed, Eric and Pam almost met the True Death themselves because of it. I believe that Eric and Sylvie had plenty of chances to at least consider the possibility of turning Sylvie before the Authority showed up, but apparently that didn't happen, which is yet another reason why I don't believe that Eric and Sylvie were not only not in love, as far as I'm concerned, Sylvie was, to paraphrase Pam's description of Sookie, just "a gash in silk pajamas," and a human one, at that. It's a big deal when the person doesn't want to be turned, ala Tara. Sookie and Lafayette knew that Tara despised vamps with great reason, especially because of Franklin, but instead of respecting her feelings, they turned her into the thing she hated most against her will for selfish reasons. As for Alcide's potential refusal to stay a vamp had he been turned into one, when Tara was first made, she didn't know what to do and she was born a human, so I shudder to think how a werewolf like Alcide would have handled it. His choices for potential makers were bad, at best. Jess is too young and I wouldn't wish Bill or Violet on anyone. Given all the shit that Sookie did wrong with Alcide, especially getting him killed, not having him turned was the only thing she did right. Not that I know of.
  7. Two more great dance sequences epitomize the joy of dance: First, "Work Your Body" from Breakin', features a break dancer on crutches. The smile on his face says it all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itIB3d3oao0 Next, from The Blues Brothers, "Shake A Tail Feather," starring The Blues Brothers and Ray Charles, who were great, but it's the dancers who stole the show, especially the kids near the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDFDLCd5IOg
  8. This is the thread to chat about all things related to Game Of Thrones during Awards season. Case in point: it's just gotten 19 Emmy nominations, including for Best Dramatic Series and Best Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage. Congratulate the nominees, speculate about their odds of winning and most importantly, talk about what they wore.
  9. Here's the thread to discuss all things related to Downton Abbey during Awards season, especially the Emmy nominations for Michelle Dockery, aka "Mary," Jim Carter, aka "Mr. Carson" and last, but never, ever least, Dame Maggie Smith, aka "Violet Crowley, aka 'The Dowager Countess'."
  10. I totally disagree. A decent plan would have had Alcide involved, knowing the risks and making up his own mind, not rushing in to save Sookie after she went off half-cocked behind his back for the umpteenth time and getting killed because of it. As for the scenes with Bill, they were just filler, and boring filler, at that. Co-sign. Violet may have vanquished Maxine and saved Rocky, but neither of those things negate her perpetual shittiness to Jason. Violet is a bully who literally gets off on pushing Jason around. That's typical of a psychotic vamp bitch whose definition of "real" men were sociopathic fucks with "iron-hard cocks" who killed innocents without remorse. The sooner Violet meets the True Death, the better.
  11. I thought that Leo and Kate Winslet's love scene in Titanic was very sexy, especially the part when Rose's hand smeared the fogged-up window, showing just how hot-and-heavy things were between her and Jack.
  12. No tribute to dance in film would be complete without the late, great Bob Fosse, so here's some of his best: From Chicago, the "Cell Block Tango": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA6R1DMb-z8 Then there's "The Rich Man's Frug," which inspired Beyoncé's video for "Get Me Bodied," from Sweet Charity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0--eFfzDAM Next, from All That Jazz, "Air-Rotica." Four letters-"NSFW": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSHnK4dvi3w
  13. Here is the thread for the Most Disturbing TV Moments, such as the "Red Wedding" from Game Of Thrones, in which a whole wedding party was killed, including Robb Stark, his mother Catelyn and even his pregnant wife at the behest of the Lannisters, who are the Stark's enemies. As someone who has never read the books, that scene not only freaked me out, at the risk of aging myself, it reminded me of the infamous "Moldavian Massacre" from Dynasty. Post your picks for the most shocking, horrifying and downright disgusting TV moments here-if you dare.
  14. From Se7en, all the crime scenes were disturbing, but the one when the presumed-dead murder victim came back to life scared the shit out of me the first time I saw it. As bad as that scene was, the prison rape scene was even worse.
  15. A couple of months ago, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender were on The Graham Norton Show to promote X-Men: Days Of Future Past and Hugh told a story about Michael's being an intense actor who sometimes takes so long to prepare for his scenes that only one song can get him out of his trailer: "Blurred Lines." As much as I hate that song, that's how much I loved seeing the three of them dancing to it. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if there was twerking involved:
  16. Two words: "Stockholder syndrome." Alcide wasn't the brightest bulb on the tree, but he was never dumber than Jason. True, Eric has been around for over a thousand years, but that doesn't make Sylvie any less useless IMO. I never believed for a second that she was the great love of Eric's life. Eric's having a death wish because of Godric or Nora is one thing; Sylvie is another. Given the average vamp "life" span, they're going to meet all kinds of characters, but they should at least be moderately compelling and Sylvie wasn't even close. I think Andy would disagree. I disagree. I still find them more compelling and believable than Jason/Violet and Eric/Sylvie-and don't even get me started on the Twilight ripoff that is Sookie/Bill. Sarah was one of the people responsible for Vamp Camp and spiking Tru Blood with HepV, which Nora was infected with at Vamp Camp, so Sarah is as much to blame for Nora's True Death as she was for Ms. Suzuki's death.
  17. Re Rafe, I've got no sympathy for him. Silas and Sam haven't been the best guardians by any means, but Rafe chose to do drugs, he chose to lie, he chose to steal and worst of all, he chose to get behind the wheel of a car while he was high and three people almost died, a baby did die and now Molly-the girl whom Rafe claims to love-could die too. I don't give a shit what happens to Rafe-it's his victims whom I'm worried about (Sabrina aside, because I don't give a shit about her either). Rafe's choices have hurt himself, Patrick, Sabrina, Emma, Silas, Sam, Alexis, TJ and now Molly. The only good things that could come out of Rafe's death would be Molly and Alexis finally patching things up and Ric's coming out of hiding for Molly's sake. MSt's acting is getting shittier by the day. The more I see Nina, the worse she gets and that goes double for Rosalie. Based on what I've seen so far, Rosalie's just a snotty, annoying bitch just like her boss. Nina bribed Rafe and helped him escape to cover her own psycho ass, not to save his. if Rafe wasn't wired at least half the time he would've known that $500 wouldn't have been even remotely enough to get rid of him or keep him quiet forever. I'm not the biggest Silas fan in the world, but Nina and Rosalie are way worse than he is. Re Patrick's response to Emma's question about whether he and Robin were getting divorced, I'll just chalk it up to grief. Loved seeing Ned/Nexis again. Alexis' putting Ned on the right track where Tracy and Fluke are concerned is long overdue. Ned never bought Tracy and Fluke as a couple and now Alexis' doubts about them have given him more ammunition, which serves them, especially Tracy, right. Tracy has put Fluke above herself, above ELQ and even above the family and she could end up losing all of them, which would also serve her right. Now that Alice is ill, maybe Tracy will finally start the long, slow and painful process of pulling her head out of her ass.
  18. Interesting episode, in a mostly bad kind of way. Leave it to Sookie to find a new way to piss me off, this time at Alcide's expense. Everytime this season Sookie has wandered off alone at night it's lead to trouble, especially this week. Sookie said that she didn't want anymore innocents dying because of her, but it happened anyway, this time to Alcide. One of Sookie's cockamamie schemes backfired. Big shock. Alcide may not have been what some considered "exciting," but one person's "boring" is another's maturity. Alcide wasn't responsible for bringing the werewolves to the show; Russell was, nor did he bring the werepanthers; that's on Jason. He was the one who went chasing after Crystal because he thought he was in love with her and he tried to help the people in Hotshot the best he could. What followed gave proof to the old saying "No good deed goes unpunished." Alcide has not only saved Sookie's life more than once, towards the end he even saved Bill from one of the H-vamps who attacked him and Sookie. So Sookie feels guilty about not loving Alcide as much as he loved her? She should, IMO. Sookie had lead Alcide on for months, knowing full well that her feelings weren't as strong as his. Sookie wanted a way out, which she got, to say the least. Congrats, Sookie. Once again, you did something dumb and dangerous and an innocent got hurt. Your not having Alcide turned like you did to Tara was the only smart thing you did the whole episode, if not ever. That you didn't appreciate Alcide says much worse about you than him, as far as I'm concerned. RIP, Alcide. You were not only much better than Sookie, you deserved much better. Re Bill, letting those vamps feed on him in Vamp Camp may have drained him of the fae blood that he stole from Benlow, but it doesn't absolve him of his past sins, nor should it. As for Bill's misty, water-colored memories of his human past, they were sweet but pointless, Hoyt's ancestor aside. Speaking of sweet and pointless, that leads me to Sylvie, Eric's French, human girlfriend. Her death was Eric's fault. If Eric hadn't dissed the Authority and the Yokosama (sp?) Corporation or hooked up with Sylvie in the first place-who probably only did it to piss off her father-she might still be alive. IMO, Eric didn't love Sylvie; he just loved fucking her. Re Maxine, while I'm glad she's dead, I hate that it was Violet who killed her. Maxine was an ignorant, overbearing and hateful shrew, but she didn't deserve to be killed by someone who's worse. Rot in Hell, Maxine. Re Sam, it was smart of him to change to escape the angry mob who were trying to kill him, but it would have been smarter and funnier if he had turned into a fly. That way, he would have been almost impossible to see in the dark. About Sarah, between Eric and Pam's coming after her for spreading HepV and the Yakuza assassins coming after her for Ms. Suzuki's death, I'd say her days are numbered and it's about time. Same with Rev. Daniels reversing Willa's invitation to the house, for LM's sake. James and Lafayette were the best part of the episode for me. The two of them getting high was sexier to me than both of Eric's sex scenes with Sylvie combined.
  19. Ciaran Hinds was the voice of Pappie the Troll in Frozen, playing this month on Starz.
  20. Naxie was one of the very few highlights of last week. Naxie has the kind of chemistry and spark that Maxie's relationship with levi lacks, to the point of non-existence. As for their getting handcuffed together, I blame Maxie. If she hadn't let Dunkledick mess with her mind, she probably wouldn't have been protesting at the brownstone in the first place, let alone handcuffed to Nathan, which is the only bright side to this whole mess. Nathan brings out the best in Maxie, not the worst. However, I do agree that Nathan should have called Mac because I believe that he would've kept quiet, but he also would've rubbed Levi's nose in it every chance he got, which would serve him right, to say the least. I've asked that question about MB for years. Even at his worst, Ryan Paevey is still way easier to take than MB on every level, as far as I'm concerned.
  21. Sex. A small word with a big meaning, especially in the movies. It can be as subtle as the breeze blowing up Marilyn Monroe's skirt in The Seven Year Itch or as explicit as whatever Dennis Quaid's hand was doing to Ellen Barkin in The Big Easy. It can be funny, such as Meg Ryan's iconic, orgasm-faking scene in When Harry Met Sally, prompting the hilarious response, "I'll have what she's having" sweet, like Jack and Ennis' reunion in Brokeback Mountain or somewhere in between, such as the food scenes in Tom Jones or 9 1/2 Weeks. Whether it's a quickie or something serious (no hard-core, please), post your picks for the Sexiest Movie Moments here.
  22. More faves: Another great dance sequence from Breakin' 2 was the hospital dance, with nurses who are so sexy they can not only heal the sick, they can even raise the dead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzysbFcCYS8 Before that was TKO Vs. Electro Rock. Two words: "Nun chucks": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQiYuehTecU Another great one from the first Breakin' were Ozone and Turbo teaching Kelly how to breakdance to Rufus' "Ain't Nobody": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXuNa_h804c The last two numbers from the first Breakin' were great, whether it was the audition or the finale that followed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkIYF80xSdw The ending from Take the Lead was a blast, from tango to freestyle and just about everything in between: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxQzIDsN0oo
  23. Bumping it up with one of the best dance routines I've ever seen in my life, the Hip-Hop number with Alex Wong and Stephen "tWitch" Boss to L'il Jon & LMFAO's "Outta Your Mind" on So You Think You Can Dance, brilliantly choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon Dumo, aka "Nappy Tabs." The audience, the judges and even host Cat Deeley loved it, with great reason: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhyWzC7df-0
  24. Andy's description of Jason's detective skills as "Pizza forensics" cracks me up.
  25. One of my favorite characters on the show is Lafayette "Lala" Reynolds, the fry cook at Bellfleur's (formerly Merlotte's) who is/was also a part-time drug dealer, hustler and a medium who also happens to be gay. Even though he's made some big mistakes (agreeing to let Tara be turned into a vampire against her will, to name one), his humor, compassion and all-around fierceness more than make up for them. The thread title is my homage to one of his lines from (IIRC) season 3: "Ring, ring hooker, ring, ring," which was his ringtone. On the romance front, Lafayette's relationship with Jesus, the nurse who cared for Lala's mama Ruby was very sweet. As much as I loved them together, that's how much I hated the way it ended, with Jesus' dying at Lala's hands, because of Marnie, the witch from Season 5. However, things might be looking up on that score, if the chemistry with James, Jessica's boyfriend, is any indication. I think that the two will not only become lovers, James could become Lala's maker. Lafayette asked Eric to turn him in Season two, but the timing wasn't right them, but with the show ending, if it was to happen anytime, it could be this season. Share your thoughts on all things Lafayette here.
