  1. If Jessa keeps on having another one every 15-18 months she may have to send them to public school. There's only three potential aunt-moms left in Hannie, Jenni, and Jordyn with 3 Duggar daughters (plus a Duggar daughter in law) so far trying to win the fecundity race. At least one is going to lose out unless they all move into the TTH and live a communal lifestyle. They might use Josie as an aunt-mom if worst comes to worst but I have a feeling that won't work out so well.
  2. Yeah I don't think he's gay. It seems like a case when you're working for IBLP/ATI you have to project some sort of family image. Even though Gothard himself was not married or had children.
  3. Yeah because I remember Brandon being talked about incessantly before there was even a courtship announced. I'm guessing he went the David Waller route of getting married because he had to.
  4. I've wondered about this. Michael and Brandon courted for a lifetime (in fundie circles). They started courting January 2014 and married August 2015. Benessa I could understand courting so long because Ben was so young. But Michael and Brandon weren't teenagers. Plus weren't they "special friends" before Brandon officially asked her to court?
  5. It also didn't help that the Duggars seemed to circle their wagons even closer after Josh had to "stand up" in church and the letter in the book describing what was happening to the daughters was discovered. I suspect that's when the "Your family are your best friends!" came into play with the Duggars and the idea of home-churching. The Duggars were very isolated. They homeschooled. They limited their children's access to people outside of the family unless it was for photo-ops and the all mighty dollar. I've never believed that the Duggars and Bateses were best friends, I thought that was all for show. It hasn't been until recently that some of them have been exposed to other worldviews without their parents breathing down their necks about what is right and what is wrong. That "freedom" (if we can call it as such) came from doing their #1 duty. Getting married. Now if they are actually exposing themselves to other world views or not now, who knows. Sure they may invite 1000+ people to their weddings but very few are probably true friends to the Duggar child in question. Even fewer would probably try to get them to think critically about any situation.
  6. Alive against three defendants who did not have the lawsuit dismissed against them. However the three defendants have filed another appeal to get the lawsuit dismissed against them. Dismissed against InTouch, employees of InTouch, City of Springdale, Count of Washington, and the county's lawyer. Basically chances of a million dollar settlement are nil. I know it's easier just to sue everyone but there were even little technicalities that the law firm should have caught. The lawyers named were never in a position of being policymakers to the government. A quick search would have shown that. I think they were just happy to take Duggar money tbh.
  7. I keep wondering what the lawyers representing the Duggars are thinking. It's not a tinker toy firm. Did the Duggars just pony up a lot of cash? The two lawyers were listed as policymakers in the lawsuit and they were clearly not in a position to decide or determine policy within the government. They were only advisors. Which the judge commented on. Then InTouch and Bauer Media just bringing one defense in order to have the lawsuit dismissed against them which was a previous SCOTUS ruling. I'm almost wondering what other little technicalities were overlooked when the suit was filed.
  8. That's entirely it. They can keep on wasting their time and money appealing the decision all the way to the Supreme Court at this point. InTouch/Bauer Media brought one defense to the dismissal hearing. One. And that was a case heard by the Supreme Court. The dismissal ruling outright states that the court believes they cannot permit the Bauer defendants to be held liable for their conduct without defying binding SCOTUS precedent. Even the judge's statement noticed it was unusual for a defendant to only bring one defense but they made their case. So the Duggars can keep on re-filing lawsuits against InTouch/Bauer Media but they are just wasting time and money in doing so.
  9. I think the current firm will bow out and they'll have to hire Barry Zuckerkorn. :D
  10. The lawsuit was dismissed against the city and county as well as the county's lawyer. O'Kelly (Springdale PD Chief), Cate (Springdale's lawyer), and Hoyt (Washington County) are still on the hook. Those are the ones who are left.
  11. Unlikely. InTouch cited a SCOTUS decision for dismissal of the lawsuit and it was dismissed. Page 6 and 7 of the judge's summary explain it better.
  12. I was wondering if the city and county's insurance companies would cover any judgements against former employees, especially if the city and county as entities were not found liable. We will find out soon enough. It looks like the cap in Arkansas is relatively low for any sort of civil judgement. I'll defer to the legal experts on that one.
  13. Well I'll be damned. I thought the lawsuit against InTouch would go further than a simple dismissal. What chance do they have of getting money out of the remaining defendants?
  14. Jessa Blessa knows what sells. That is pictures of her two very adorable boys. Dullard is on a mission to see how many haters he can accumulate on a daily basis.
  15. The lawsuit against the city and county were dismissed which was expected when the lawsuit was filed. The lawsuit was also dismissed against the county's lawyer. The parts of the lawsuit against the police chief of Springdale PD at the time and the guy employed in the Sheriff's office weren't dismissed. Part of the suit against the city's lawyer was dismissed but not fully dismissed. http://www.nwaonline.com/news/2017/sep/29/some-defendants-dismissed-but-bulk-of-d/ The full ruling is somewhere in this thread. So the lawsuit just moves forward against O'Kelly, Hoyt, and Cate as individuals rather than the city and county. The rest is against InTouch and Bauer Media. I haven't seen any mention of a motion by InTouch to have the lawsuit dismissed yet. Don't know if I want to re-read the lawsuit to see what exactly they are suing InTouch for again.
  16. Under Arkansas law at the time meant that as long as the documents were properly redacted, it could be released for public consumption. Now it's basically whether the documents were properly redacted or not. And anything against InTouch for requesting under the FOIA and publishing the documents. Did they deserve to have the information made public? No. But that was the law at the time and their parents couldn't be bothered to get legal advice on whether the interviews would end up being available pending FOIA requests. It's quite possible they would have been able to have the records expunged or sealed well before a tabloid decided to take the plunge to request the documents. They knew enough to retain a lawyer for Josh so the Springdale PD couldn't interview him. Why not spare a few pennies to see if the daughters were similarly protected?
  17. I'm re-reading the documents. I'm getting the distinct impression that Jim Bob's hand was played with the "church elders" (whomever those people were) because it was JB, Josh, and a church elder that went to the sheriff. Aren't religious figures in positions of authority mandated reporters? If so, the "church elders" failed these women as well by not reporting the abuse to the proper authorities. Jim Bob going to the sheriff was long after the incidents had occurred and after Josh was sent to a "rehab" program.
  18. If you go back into the documents released by InTouch someone sent an email to Harpo studios alleging that Josh had molested his sisters. Harpo studios forwarded the emails which triggered an investigation. She makes no mention of the letter in the book there, just that Oprah should confront the Duggars about all their secrets.
  19. I could be remembering this incorrectly. Didn't one of the commenters' back in the day post that anyone could go down to the Springfield PD to get copies through FOIA requests to prove the rumors were true? It will never cease to amaze me that the Duggars and TLC knew the rumors were out there but never checked to make sure that the files were not accessible through FOIA requests. Yet they knew enough to retain a lawyer for Josh so he didn't have to be interviewed while the other children were being questioned. We will have to wait and see how the rest plays out. I am finding some things strange. Like how they referred to the lawyers as "policy makers" in the original suit and that helped get parts of the lawsuit dismissed. I'm sure a bit of research would have yielded what roles the city lawyer and county lawyer played in the administration of both the city and county. I wonder what other holes the defendants' lawyers will find. I get a feeling that there are a lot of technicalities that will reduce the lawsuit considerably by the time everything is said and done.
  20. It'll come in handy when Spurgeon is in charge of homeskoolin' the younger ones.
  21. I think JB and Michelle (and TLC) don't care that Jinger isn't pregnant. It's actually a better story line that Jinger and BAAAAAAAAABE managed to make it this far without a pregnancy/baby. If they make it to their first anniversary with nary a pregnancy, hot damn. Plus Jinger being all the way in Laredo keeps a fairly healthy distance. Jinger and Jeremy are away from the constant pressure to reproduce like bunnies.
  22. Leave it to this show to think that the entire situation is resolved and the Nine Nine will go onto more wacky adventures but there's still one last thing to tie up.
  23. I've said this before and I'll say it again. Jinger would have married Satan himself if it meant getting off and away from the compound. I don't think she envies her sisters' lives one bit and I do believe the Vuolos not having children yet is a joint decision by Jeremy and Jinger. I do not think it's a unilateral decision by Jeremy.
  24. This entire thing could have been avoided had Josh gotten professional help when the first molestation occurred. What happened is not normal. They trained their daughters that it is perfectly normal for a brother to molest his sisters. Jill was putting in the same "safe guards" for her future children if she has a daughter. You want to yell at them this is not normal!!! This is not okay!!! You know that no one in that clan has the critical thinking skills to realize their mindset is not normal.
