  1. At the beginning of Episode 4, as Roger’s driving through the arch, it says, “Lallybroch 1980.” I think it’s fair to say it could be 1981 by now.
  2. Your post made me very curious, so I looked up a couple of things. Daniel Morgan was born in the Colonies (probably New Jersey, according to Wikipediea). His parents were Welsh immigrants, and all four of his grandparents lived in Pennsylvania. (He also had 6 siblings.) It seems likely he would have a Welsh accent or at least his accent would be strongly influenced. The bio on the Hunters was lacking in details. They were orphaned very young and taken care of by their Quaker community before a relative was located in London. Denny went to school in Philadelphia and apprenticed in London. (I believe Rachel stayed in London.). I’m guessing their accents would be heavily influenced by their time in London. It seems to me that accents of the time would really be determined by the community a person lived in. I would suspect Jemmy had a strong Scottish accent, because Fraser’s Ridge was mostly Scots, and I get the impression that the nearby Germans we hear so much about have maintained their German accents. I was bummed Breanna didn’t have a Boston accent. I’ve read that it’s a difficult accent to learn, but I think it would have been cool. i actually like the character of Breanna and the actress. (I know, minority opinion.) I do wish someone would tell her that she says “anything” wrong. She’s been on the show for seven years. Surely someone in production has noticed 😊
  3. The character has already been introduced this season. I just wasn’t sure if it was something I had missed in previous books. I'm really looking forward to my reread of Echo. Now that I know who to look for, I’m hoping I’ll follow the story better.
  4. After the mid-season finale, I plan to reread Echo.
  5. This plot point completely went over my head until I read something in Bees. Had we already met this individual before this season?
  6. Wow … The Skye Boat Song is going to sound very different this week. I’m absolutely going to be in crying and thinking of her family.
  7. So, I've been giving this way too much thought, but ... Even if Graham McTavish were playing Buck, would a nonbookreader have actually recognized Buck at the end of the episode? I'm honestly thinking they probably would not have. He was barely in the earlier episode, and it was just the one episode. I'm starting to think that the show runners saw it as more of a cliff hanger than a reveal.
  8. That part did seem silly. I think that was the one part that was bothering me. I liked much of this episode, but the parts in the woods should have been suspenseful and just weren't. Jamie & Co. looking for Claire and bump into Denzell, then everyone relaxes because there couldn't possibly be anyone else nearby. Ian almost shoots an arrow at Jamie, but then sees that it's Jamie. Oh, good, we're fine now. Claire and Jamie proceed to have a conversation out in the open. They've done such a great job in the past, that this was just a bit of a let down. Did I mention I did like this episode? Because I really did, other than the lack of tension in the woods.
  9. He was responsible for Roger getting hanged. He is Morag MacKenzie’s husband, and he thought Roger was a bit too friendly with her.
  10. I read the books a few years ago and only read Echo once, so I really don’t remember much. I’m so glad we got to see Walter Woodcock! He and Claire we just so sweet together. Loved Roger and Bree discussing time travel and his Hitchhikers Guide :-) Awesome way to end the episode! Roger was way too nice to Buck in the past. I forget, does Buck realize who Roger is at this point? I don’t even remember why Buck is in Scotland.
  11. The Outlander universe is very, very small. It seems guaranteed that the cousins will see each other again.
  12. I honestly have no idea what the requirements for Plant Inspector would be, just that Bree mentioned those in particular. I thought Bree did a really nice job of stating her qualifications and demonstrating her competence. I was honestly quite surprised by the number of people questioning it, but, hey, we all notice different details. Again, I don't know anything about what qualifies someone as an engineer, but I did watch The Big Bang Theory. They often mention that Howard (the Engineer) is the only one without a PhD. Howard maintains that few Engineers have a PhD, and that it isn't necessary in most cases.
  13. She also mentioned that she had "earned the relevant city and guilds qualifications." I work in education, and it's been years since I was applying for jobs. But when I was fresh out of college, I seem to remember that schools wanted to know you had the degree first. If you had the degree, then they would make sure you had the relevant classes and certificates. I don't know if that was as strict in 1980. Then again, Bree wasn't applying to be a teacher, so it could be a completely different situation, not to mention a different country (since I'm from the US).
  14. lol - probably lost at sea in Season 3.
  15. I have to know, was I the only one yelling at the tv when they were about to amputate Williams arm?
  16. I had the same thoughts! I seriously need to reread the books, but I'm kind of enjoying not really knowing what's going to happen next :-)
  17. Yes! That moment is in the theme song. I don't always pay attention to those scenes the first time through because they generally don't make sense to me ... yet. But I remember this one for some reason, so I was really excited that they tricked me!!! Totally thought it was Jamie before this episode.
  18. It is a change from the books, but it was vague in the book. Bree did see an article in the paper, but I do not believe we saw it at all. I think the only information the reader had was that Bree saw an article. She and Roger returned to the 20th century and saw an article and looked at each other and said, "It changed!" I don't recall ever knowing exactly what it was that had changed. There was a short Epilogue in A Breath of Snow and Ashes of two printers (from the 18th century) discussing the article they were about to print. One said this was old news if it happened in January. The other said it happened in December, but he didn't have room for the 2. There was never anything in the book about this being a fake-out or a plan to make people think they were dead. That was just speculation from nonbook readers.
  19. I was really surprised Claire didn’t say something about Joe. It would have been a nice way to remind the audience about Joe, and it would have been completely normal for Claire and Bree to share a memory about Joe or the family.
  20. He doesn’t have the time traveling gene.
  21. Paige has no friends because her parents hired someone to be her chaperone and all she is allowed to do is study. When she traveled to Sheldon's school for a presentation, the other students in her group all went out for drinks and she was left alone with the chaperone. Basically, Paige isn't allowed to have any fun because her parents are afraid of what might happen to her.
  22. What??? I completely forgot about that. I guess I merged the book and show :-) Yes, they did go back to Scotland, but they also returned to the Colonies.
  23. I hadn't thought if it like that :-) But I kind of agree. I do appreciate when we see what happens, but now that you mention it, watching them make there way to a pay phone, call Joe, acquire money, travel to Boston, etc. does sound a little boring and unnecessary. I would probably be thinking, get on with it already!
  24. Jamie even said that after Mrs. Bug died. "Why did I not let her take it? What did it matter?" I think in the heat of the moment, Jamie was thinking that they were steeling from his aunt. Later, he thought more and realized that what his aunt had was stolen and she (and Jamie) had no more claim to it than the Bugs. Initially, though, Jamie simply felt betrayed.
