  1. Anybody else think the officer who was retiring is involved? When he sent the one guy to get ice he made a point of saying take Chester with you. Then he was in such a hurry to send the Swat team when that should have been Faith’s decision.
  2. I agree that we’ll probably see Sunny again. I think it’s interesting that he owns grocery stores. Isn’t that what Emily’s husband did in season 1?
  3. I am liking this show very much. The scenery is gorgeous. I was lucky enough to visit that area a couple of years ago and it is so beautiful there. Was anyone else afraid that the girls running through the desert would stumble on the bodies of the Mormon family?
  4. https://deadline.com/2022/05/surrealestate-previously-canceled-paranormal-drama-series-return-season-2-syfy-1235020384/ So happy to hear this! I loved this show!
  5. They’ve already done “stranded on a desert island” but if they want to stick with Verne and sidestep 20,000 Leagues there’s always Mysterious Island.
  6. https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/01/11/redwood-forest-owned-by-king-tut-of-hoarders-in-santa-cruz-mountains-begins-new-chapter/ Here is an update on Roy with all the cars. I haven’t seen his episode in quite some time but I thought he was battling cancer that had taken a turn for the worse and that was 10 years ago. Am I confusing him with someone else?
  7. I’d bet that the judges are allowed an up close look at the final products before the contestants are brought in for the on camera presentation. There have been times that a judge has commented on something on the back of the piece that they couldn’t possibly see from the judges table. Either that or they are fed information from the production staff who should be able to recognize potential issues.
  8. I think that Lady Loki stole the reset charges and sent them back to critical points in the Sacred Timeline where even a small deviation would create a rapidly branching new line. This would force the TVA to deploy most, if not all, of their teams very quickly leaving headquarters unprotected. We saw multiple teams heading out almost immediately. The portal she and Loki went through might just take them right into the TVA.
  9. I watched the first episode and couldn’t bring myself to watch more but I have read recaps from several sites and all the episode threads here. My theory for how it ends is that Perry gets Alice on the stand and she loses it. Maybe he asks her about mothers and if she thinks Emily was a good mother. The floodgates open about Birdy and the things she’s put Alice through. Birdy then loses it in response and we get an “after everything I’ve done for you” confession.
  10. Corey nailed it when he said Althia set unreasonable prices on things because deep down she really didn’t want to get rid of anything. I have a friend who has 200 craft/art projects each about 80 percent finished. She goes on and on about how she needs to sell them to make some money but she refuses to finish them. She says she keeps them unfinished because people always want them bigger or smaller or a different shade of whatever color but that’s just an excuse. If she finished one she might actually sell it and that’s the last thing she wants to do. Althia is definitely a hoarder but I also think she’s stuck in her grieving process. She’s furious at Julius for not seeing their dream through and leaving her with the mess. The hoard and the house are constant reminders of that, continually feeding the anger. On some level she doesn’t want to give the anger up because once it’s gone what’s left? For many people it would be acceptance and peace but Althia’s not wired that way.
  11. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1994-01-23-9401230385-story,amp.html I’ve never tried to post a link so I hope this works. It’s an article from 1994 that talks about people renting rooms in their homes to attendees of some huge home show near Greensboro and they interview Sandra. They estimated she could bring in $25,000 just renting out bedrooms during the show. I don’t think they showed any pictures of Sandra’s current location. Her brother made it clear in his follow up interview that she was still hoarding but that she had refused to participate in the new show. I think the footage they showed was from the first show. It may have been unaired footage but I don’t think they had anything new of her.
  12. They’re saving the “Slovenly Assholes” title for the hoarder/hemorrhoid sufferer/proctologist show they’re planning for next season. 😈
  13. I only started watching this about six months ago and with repeats and compilation shows I'm not sure how long ago this case happened. There was an elderly man and his German shepherd who were in an accident and the dog went into the windshield or the dashboard so hard he fractured his skull. It was so bad that every time he took a breath his forehead bulged. They had to transfer him to the trauma center at the university I think. Dr. Emily got a call saying he made it there but we never heard anything else. I assume the worst because they usually love to follow up on miraculous recoveries but even in the worst case there's usually a voiceover or comment on the screen when an animal doesn't make it. Does anyone else remember this? I think the dog's name was Rip.
  14. I think my favorite episode is the one where Opie raises the baby birds after accidentally killing their mother. It's not funny at all but I love the ending. I think of it every time I find myself in a "glass half empty" frame of mind. Opie releases the now-grown birds and sadly says that the cage is so empty and Andy says, "yes, but don't the trees look full".
  15. That moment did stand out to me also because the attitude seemed different. We've seen him yell, cry, threaten and plead but not this. When he did the stammering all I could think of was - very bad actor failing miserably at looking guilty and repentant. I do believe he thought it was cute in kind of an endearing way, still a fail. He always has some smart comment to make and this was one of the few times, if not the only one, when he didn't seem to be able to spew words. It's like he was trying out a new type of response and hasn't perfected the act yet.
  16. I won't disagree about Justin having social anxiety issues but I bet he does OK when the interaction is on his terms and concerns something he is really interested in. I have a funny feeling that left on his own he wouldn't have expressed any interest in contacting Dr. Now. Sitting in a small shop that only attracts people that are interested in the things you love might be heaven to him What is the possibly that he was coerced into participating? I can see Steven screaming and crying and guilting his dad into getting Justin to participate. Either because TLC said they wanted a package deal with the two of them or no show or because Steven knew they (he) would get twice as much airtime. If Justin was a reluctant participant to begin with I can see how a horrendous trip halfway across country while everyone caters to the brother he despises would push him over the edge. Then he gets to Houston and a doctor followed by cameras gets in his face and just wants to scare him about his health and make him stay right near his brother. That's not how we see it but look at it from Justin's POV. I think it was just too much for him.
  17. When Princess said that she was taking the TV and then went to bring in his laundry I really didn't expect him to pick up the phone and call (fake call?) the police. I thought he was reaching for something to throw. I figured she would walk back in and the TV would be in pieces on the floor with Steven smirking and saying, "Go ahead and take it. It doesn't work anyway". On top of that he could then complain about the crappy TV they loaned him...
  18. Several years ago my husband took a nasty fall and broke a couple of ribs. They checked him out in the ER and sent him home with two days worth of pain pills telling him to see his primary care doctor as soon as possible. We were able to get an appointment very late on the second day. We're members of a big HMO that has it's own medical offices, hospitals and pharmacies and they are all on a linked computer network. The primary entered a prescription for 15 days of pills into the system. I got my husband settled in the car and then walked to the other end of the complex to the pharmacy. When I got there they told me that they could see the prescription but they couldn't fill it because there was a second step that the doctor forgot. When he entered the prescription in the network he was supposed to follow up with a confirmation fax by phone so it was outside the computer network. The reasoning being that someone might hack the system and enter prescriptions for narcotics but they wouldn't also be able to use the phone system to fax the confirmation. Unfortunately by the time I got to the pharmacy and found this out the doctor had already left for the day. The pharmacist said there was nothing they could do. I asked what I was supposed to do with my husband, who had a difficult enough time breathing due to some medical conditions now complicated by broken ribs. Their only solution for me was to take him back to the ER where I would have been charged another $250 copay. At this point I'm angry and walk back to the ER since that was the only place I could be sure of even finding a doctor at that time of day. I went to the check in area and started to tell the lady at the desk what was going on. I'm almost in tears and had the original pill bottle they had given us two days earlier in my hand. Before I could even get the words pharmacy and refill out of my mouth she was shaking her head and reaching for the bottle. She said, "Honey, I know exactly what happened. You have a seat there and I'll be right back". She was back in less than five minutes and told me the head pharmacist was going to have the prescription ready for me by the time I walked back to the pharmacy and that if they gave me any more trouble to come back and she would have a doctor go with me. Regarding Steven and how he could get away with doctor shopping for a month I can totally believe it. Whatever database Texas has it has to be monitored by some department of the government. The bureaucracy/red-tape has to be incredible. Even if the database is updated real-time I doubt it is fully automated. I would bet that cases are reviewed by someone before they actually pull the plug on somebody receiving services. Steven also seems to use his middle name a lot. If he checks himself into the ER under his middle name and says "Oh, I'm in too much pain. I didn't think to grab my wallet with my ID" what are they going to do to him?
  19. I think its far more complex. I think enablers have a pathology of their own and it could be for various reasons. They need to be needed, they want the person they are enabling to stay put or it puts them in a position of center of attention. There are always the chubby chasers too. I think we have seen many examples of this over the years. There are probably as many types of enablers as there are the enabled. I can only speak my own truth... I started by learning very young that I wasn't entitled to my own feelings. When I was four I was upset about something, don't remember what it was but I told my mother I hated her. I'm sure every kid does that at some point. Instead of just telling me that I hurt her feelings and walking away for awhile till I calmed down she refused to speak to me for three days. Once she started talking again I got another full day of "I don't know why I should talk to you. You hate me." I was four. About a year later I was going out to play with some neighbor kids. At the last minute my mom came up with some chore that needed to be done and I stamped my foot in frustration. A loose tube in the TV fell onto the wiring and set the TV on fire. The neighbors had to carry the TV outside before the house caught on fire. That's just two examples of my immature attempts to speak my mind having catastrophic consequences. There was also the unending litany of "You don't want to be selfish, do you?". Selfish was the worst insult my mother could throw around. Factor in years of perceived disappointment "Why did you only get 95 on your calculus test?" and you've created a real mess of a person. This is someone who will work themselves sick trying to get that last 5% of approval who is also unable to speak up for themselves and set boundaries because their experience is that that always backfires horribly. Fast forward many years and I was married to a man who had learned when he was young that throwing tantrums got him what he wanted. Nothing physical just a lot of yelling. I felt I couldn't be upset because my feelings didn't matter and I truly believed that if I had just tried harder he wouldn't be upset. While it is happening you feel like a failure on such a basic level that it is hard to explain. That's what I see with Lisa and James K. She knows giving him the food will kill him but in the moment you really hate yourself because they are unhappy. If you are fortunate enough to end up with a partner who is rational with realistic wants you'll be OK but that doesn't describe James K. or Steven Jr. The best definition I ever heard for co-dependency was - taking someone else's temperature to see how you feel. My husband also had many health issues so on top of everything else I was always ready to cut him some slack because he didn't feel well. He's been gone for several years now and it took me a long time to realize that having health issues and being a jackass aren't mutually exclusive. I don't doubt that Steven Jr. has true medical issues but all I see is a jackass that's going to exaggerate, lie, manipulate, scream, cry and whatever else he has to do to get what he wants when he wants it. I agree with everyone who says we don't have the whole story on Steven Sr. and Steven Jr. but distance doesn't matter when it comes to co-dependency. There were times that I was hundreds of miles away from home and my husband would call and go off about something. I guarantee that if calling and ordering a pizza would have shut him up I would have done it.
  20. Hi everyone, Another newbie here who signed up because of James K. I'll be posting something in his thread but need to rewatch first to get my thoughts together. Regarding Dr. Now and the foot stools- Back in January I had to have my gallbladder removed. I'm about 350. When they put me on the operating table it felt awfully narrow so I asked if there was a wider table. They said that there are extensions they can put on the sides but then the doctor can't get in close enough or high enough to get the necessary leverage to insert the laparoscopic instruments. I imagine that if you are a little on the short side it is even more difficult.
