  1. Can't add much except to say that I'm really looking forward to this. So glad that David Dawson's Alfred is still on board, and new characters as well. The other Viking show is enjoyable but a bit too 'stylish' for my tastes. I prefer the more historically accurate, grittier version, and the cast is excellent. Here's hoping it will continue.
  2. I omitted a lot due to bad memory, fear of overloading the page and annoying people, but just one more scene and I'll stop, I promise. It takes place on Cynuit Hill, after Ubba has returned from Ireland. Alfred has split the army and is off fighting Guthrum, while Odda takes on Ubba. At an impasse, a negotiation meeting is arranged because these are always so productive.
  3. I used to think she was somewhat overrated, but came to appreciate what a talented and fearless actress she really is. Another amazing female-centric film I loved is The Hours. Scene at the train station with Nicole Kidman and Stephen Dillane. How HE got shut out of the noms is another story.
  4. Things I Learned from The Last Kingdom, season 1: For a Saxon, traveling through the Danelaw could be hazardous. Keeping a low-profile meant lookin' rough, lots of fur, and perhaps a sex slave on a leash...a bit like Vegas back in the day. Things to avoid in the Danelaw: Danes Also: avoid wearing crucifixes, crowns, and clothing made of cloth. Never participate in an axe-fight with barefeet. This should go without saying. A Seer will stop seeing when a penis gets involved, but a tree branch up the butt has no ill effect on their gift. Danes took the phrase "Going out in a blaze of glory" quite literally. Raped nuns are some of your most enthusiastic fighters.
  5. Maybe, but she doesn't strike me as caring about fitting in with a bunch of snobs. All she had to say was she was pressured or didn't know what she was signing, but she didn't (that I can recall). Plus, she did just kill a guy. Not that he didn't need killin'.
  6. It was surprising that Bonnie would sign such a petition in the first place, but apparently there's more to her than meets the eye. I never got the sense that she didn't know what she signed, only that she was unaware of Maddy's involvement. Curious position for her laid back hippy lifestyle.
  7. Maybe something to do with this guy :-o
  8. I hear you, but this is a completely fictional Monterey in many ways, to better serve the story. I've heard it described as a working class tourist town with fabulous views, and that seems pretty accurate. It does seem a bit more conservative than, say, Santa Cruz, but any mayoral concern over fucking puppets would probably come from a desire to remain uncontroversial and tourist friendly.
  9. I think there was intentional misdirection re: Ed & Abby because the placement of scenes is very well thought out. A Greek chorus woman was talking about how all the guys were ogling Bonnie's dancing and how she "saw erections." Quick cut to Ed eyeing Abby on the deck.
  10. Oh, I know! I meant it as a joke, but it would look better to go on the offense rather than defense.
  11. I hope the show gets a second season. I'd be more willing to let it go if I thought HBO had more smart, female-centric shows in development, but who knows. They don't need the same director - in fact I wasn't crazy about some of his artistic choices - but I like the cast, the writing, and the setting. I understand the criticism, but True Detective, season 1 was the most mesmerizing thing I've seen on television. I didn't expect to like it, but it absolutely blew me away. I wonder if Cary Fukunaga would be interested.
  12. I was more concerned about a drunken misguided confession to Ed than the murder.. I mean accident. It's one thing to suspect but I'm pretty sure Ed doesn't want it confirmed.
  13. Those stairs were an accident waiting to happen. Celeste should sue them for negligence.
  14. Yes, Perry was apparently a one-man sex crime wave in Monterey. Given Bonnie's out of character reaction, the clutching of her neck at the stairs and later at the beach, I suspected a hint that she was also one of his victims. Surely they wouldn't take it that far..or would they?
  15. As much as I love Freeman, hearing something like that makes me think they probably shouldn't be in the entertainment business. Not that I blame him, really, but some things are best left unsaid.
  16. Interesting that they've used Neil Young twice in the show. Since he also lives in the area, Kelley probably knows him.
  17. That shot of Celeste laying on the floor was powerful. I was hoping she'd tell him on the stairs "You just got the wind knocked out of you!"
  18. The guy dubbing for Scott sounded nothing like him. I would rather have heard Scott's real voice, terrible or not.
  19. Next season - Detective Zippo investigates the death and learns that Bonnie had motive?
  20. Rebar through the throat. Very satisfying end, better than expected. ;)
  21. Some of us haven't seen it yet, though it seems pretty obvious that Perry is the one who "needs killin", as they say. I think it would be far more painful to him, and more satisfying to the audience, to see him at home in restraints as Celeste keeps him out of the loop on a new cereal for the kids, an impromptu playdate, and similar life-altering incidents. He'd likely implode from rage.
  22. Thanks, I appreciate it, Anothermi! Yeah, I like to be as accurate as possible on the dialog, so good to know. ;)
  23. I could listen to Skarsgard speaking Swedish all day long.
