It gets awkward in a fandom when there is a subset of fans who think Actor and Actress have awesome chemistry and are made for each other and maybe even have the secret hots for each other, and when there is another subset of fans who are aware that Actor and Actress don't get along that great in real life (you know, it's called "acting!") and they just have to be quiet, polite, bite their tongues and let their fellow fans have their fantasies.

Perhaps forgotten in this discussion is the experience of "strip-watching," or watching episodes five days a week via syndication. I don't even know how prevalent that sort of syndication is any more, particularly with hourlong dramas. But I watched "ER" that way. I'd tape the daily episodes and then watch them every day after work (back in the days of VCR).

I tried to watch Battlestar Galactica but honestly, I just couldn't get past the word "frak" as a curse word. I just can't. Also, the shakycam. Also, the old theme song was way cooler. What can I say, I'm a child of the Seventies.

Whedon does nothing for me either! (Maybe this isn't exactly an UO, eh?)

This is the topic where you can confess to actively avoiding listening to artists and songs that are seemingly everywhere but which you've managed to completely escape. How long were you able to avoid listening, if you couldn't manage to do it forever? I managed to completely avoid hearing "My Heart Will Go On" for two and a half years. I have only heard about 5 seconds of "Let It Go." (Partially explained by the fact that I don't have kids)

I can understand not liking Carol and Doug - and the problem was Carol, because at the time, Julianna M. was a bore. My ER ship was always Carter and Benton anyway :-)

Jim Rockford Warned Us About Google and Facebook Back in 1978 Discussion of "The House on Willis Avenue." To me the most unique/prescient things about the episode were that 1) it proposed that private companies, not the government, would be at the forefront of data gathering on citizens; 2) the government would be interested in obtaining this information and 3) the required data servers - the ones in the desert - would be massive and possibly bad for the environment. The episode also showed Rockford using this computer system for his own investigative purposes, a wee premonition of normal modern-day Internet usage. (And it also showed Richie Brockleman "Googling" Rockford!) It would have been a much more conventional 70s line of thinking if it had been "the gubmint" that was doing the surveillance and data gathering. Yet the episode didn't go that route, possibly because the show was never really paranoid about the power of the government (just disdainful of government bureaucracy).

Jamal's anger doesn't bother me. If I was gay and my dad treated me like that and said things to me like that, I'd have a chip on my shoulder too. That said, I'm glad he finally struck out on his own.

Damn, and here I was shipping Puma and Cookie, and then you bring up the very good point that there's probably another shoe that's going to drop (about Puma)... My God, I love Taraji Henson in this. The whole thing where she said grace (somehow slipping in a skank reference) should alone get her an Emmy. I just wished I cared more about the other two sons: Andre is just weird, and Hakeem is a spoiled brat.

Speaking of David Birney, I wonder why this show never took off (cancelled after a half season)-

The strange this is, I was never able to get into Twin Peaks when it was on, but now that it's coming back in 2016, I'm strangely enthused.

I caught the second episode of this (not having seen the first, but knowing the general gist) and found it surprisingly good (I suppose it's because they have a director who knows what he's doing?). I'm not going to watch it live, but will DVR it probably. Fave moment from this episode was the cold-eyed way that Cookie turned around stared at Lucious in the elevator - twice! Also, Porsha cracks me up.

Unfortunately, I find that Ming-Na deadens just about everything she's in.

My grandmother, back in the '70s, used to live in northern Arizona, where a lot of film and TV productions would sometimes shoot (lots of nice woods close by to those picturesque red rocks of Sedona which were down the road a few miles). So there are a lot of pictures of little toddler me with celebrities... and I don't remember a moment of it! Nobody absolutely super famous, but Claude Akins, I'm told, was my favorite.

Speaking of The Affair, why does Joshua Jackson always get cast as the second male in these things? Seriously does anyone think that anyone would cheat on him with Dominic West? (and yes, I realize some people may say "Yes I do!" as a UO!)

I think it's the tone of Doctor Who that throws me off every time. And I realize that fans of the show love the tone, so it really is just me. And it could be just a thing that has to do with the Stephen Moffatt era and not Doctor Who as a whole series. I mean, I really really want to like Doctor Who. I love sci fi. I love classic sci fi. I deeply respect the fact that show has been on forever. I watched "The Day of the Doctor" 50th anniversary just out of respect (and, I actually did enjoy that episode). I liked Matt Smith. I like Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. I just can't get through an episode.

The sad thing is that the real Paradise Cove is now super-exclusive, and in fact the locals even got in trouble recently for trying to strongarm ordinary citizens off the beach (which is against California state law; beachfront is all for all citizens to enjoy). I understand it costs $40 to park in the parking lot where Rockford's trailer once was set up. (though, the actual spot where it was, is now covered with sand and is part of an outdoor cafe).

I'm rewatching Season 6 right now, so maybe I will. Maybe. Season 6 may have had its problems, but "Paradise Cove" was a great season premiere. Christmas Eve gunfire! Buried gold under the trailer! And Mr. & Mrs. Polaroid, snarking and kissing! I weep that Garner and Hartley never had an actual TV series together. It would have been so awesome.

My 3 favorite shows of all time? Desert Island shows? Quantum Leap, Fringe, and the Rockford Files (which I only discovered this year). Possibly also Frasier.

My most disturbing movie moment is in The Great Waldo Pepper when a stunt pilot crashes his biplane and gets stuck in the wreckage... and the wreckage catches on fire. And Robert Redford tries to get him out, but can't, all while the guy is pleading that he doesn't want to burn. Well, Robert fails to get him out and must retreat. And the guy burns alive. Horrible! I don't even want to think about that scene again, much less watch it. Runner-up is the scene in Strange Days where the guy murders the girl and then uses the virtual reality thing to force her to experience his thrill while he gets to experience her terror (which he sadistically gets a thrill out of). That scene was so fucked up on so many levels. I wanted to walk out right then, but we wound up walking out later when the movie just went on and on and on.

I keep, keep, keep trying to watch Doctor Who. And every time, I keep wandering off in the middle of the episode. Every time they get a new Doctor, I tune in again because I think this time's going to be the charm. And every time... I can't.

Based on my previous love/tolerance for JJ Abrams shows, genre shows, serialized shows, and what my dad calls "ooley ooley oo" shows, I should have liked Lost, but I didn't even last into the first season. There were too many characters and too much shouting. Sorkin can't meet the logistical requirements of anything. I attended a college commencement where he was the speaker, and he came to a big climactic crescendo about three times.

"Jaime"? "Catelyn"? "Robb"? I dunno, it all just strikes me as fantasy fictional names that a 12-year-old girl would think up. An unconvincing mixture of badly contrived sword and sorcery type names (Greyjoy, Margaery, etc) plus names of her 7th grade classmates. Also, there's the small matter that I tried to read the books and found them to be shite. :-)

I can't bring myself to watch Games of Thrones because the fantasy character names seem so silly, like a bad approximation of the fantasy genre. I keep expecting them to bring on characters with names like Kristen Greylock, Shanelle Wolfslayer and Jonathan Livingston Moorcliff.
