Good post from WOTW Had there been no books to go by, ‘The Rains Of Castamere’ would have been universally panned. I’m convinced of it. The fact that this episode is so lowly rated is proof of it, IMO. This amount of hate isn’t because of fans feeling like the Euron ambush didn’t make sense and that they should have been aware of him. Or that Cersei should have just killed Dany outside of the gates. Those are reasonable criticisms. But logistical stuff doesn’t drive the majority of fans nuts. The hate is because of the direction of Dany’s character and where it is headed. The book stans refuse to believe this is straight out of George’s mouth to D&D’s ears. It’s amazing. And I’m not knocking legitimate criticisms. I’m just claiming that those wouldn’t drive thousands of people to rate it a 1 out of 10. This episode was far better than any episode in season 7, and IMO , the best this season. For it to be regarded as the worst in the show’s history is insane. I’ll predict next week will probably be rated lower, because some truly crazy Red Wedding-esque shit is about to go down.

Even if only 20% of GoT's audience watch the prequel it will be the most popular show on HBO. But I don't care about the prequel tbh. At this point at least.

I think GRRM just played with that "secred prince" trope. He would never put him on the Iron Throne if he really wants to avoid typical fantasy tropes.

Daeneeys' entire storyline was building up to this moment when she will finally bring fire and blood. "Dragons leave no trees" She will Queen of the Ashes.

Starks being the Lannisters of the last season is also interesting ending. We wanted them to be powerful House, but now that they are they are just as corrupted as anyone else. This feels like GRRM to me.

This is just like Joker vs Batman in TDK, the "only" difference is that Cersei successfully breaks Daenerys.

Dany failing at the end because she became corrupted by power is like Frodo's and Thorin's stories in LOTR and Hobbit.

What? She wanted to burn Yunkai and Astapor. She said in S5 that Meereen could return to dirt. In S2 she said (in show only speech) that she will burn armies ans cities.

And she wanted to do that in S6 as well, so it's not true that this comes out of nowhere. Some people just convinced themselves that this won't happen.

Then why all those Mad Queen theories existed for years? Director of 606 said that the inspiration for the last scene of that episode was Hitler's speech.

I'm surprised that people are constantly surprised about the same things every season. As I said before this season started D&D have their MO that brought them success. So if you didn't like last 3-4 seasons you won't like this one. What you expected? That they will change their style?
