Does anyone know what that rap/hip-hop song was when Gregory first sat down with Janine in the club? Tunefind doesn't have it. I've googled clips from the lyrics I thought I heard but had no success. Is it possible it was just something created for the show?

Janine slow grinding on Greg! Giiiirrrl.

I *think* it's Pigeon Food by Hannibal Leq.

Adding to that…paychecks would be direct deposit.

Yep. At my last job (local government) one could in theory get a physical paycheck but it was pretty damn hard and you had to have a good reason.

  3. I actually liked Ava in this episode (and side note whoever did the actress's hair for the majority part of the scenes was on fire, it looked amazing!!). And I had no problem with Melissa and Barbara venting about Jeannine. I like the girl but damn, that poor coworker doesn't feel comfortable in the break room because of her.  That's a problem.

The one thing that pulled me out was right in the beginning with the talk of Ava not signing paychecks. Those are government workers under an elected body, no absolute way that Ava has anything to do with payroll except possible time sheet approval on non-exempt/hourly employees and those teachers have got to be exempt and probably salaried. That's going to be payroll and HR for the district.

Am I the only person who finds this commercial sad? I mean, yes, it's wonderful that the father creates a giant snow globe for his daughter, but I've always assumed that the snow globe has some relationship to the mother who's no longer in the picture (either through death or divorce). I assume we're shown the framed picture of the father, mother, and daughter for a reason.

Maybe I'm reading this all wrong?

No. I thought the same. I actually came here thinking the conversation would be in the tearjerker thread.

  5. I thought they were in the middle of a semester which would mean Kimberly is concerned about how to pay for the next semester. And did she go meet with a bank for a private loan or someone at the school? The way they were treating the loan process or seemed like maybe it's was a bank.

I think Bela's parents are high paying doctors?? So not Leighton you're of money but probably pretty decent.

  6. I like Kevin Costner as an actor but have zero desire to see Yellowstone (it feels like everyone I know watches it). I do love Mayor of Kingston and I read some review that said they're basically the same show just different environments. Not sure how true that is but if it is then I figure I got Yellowstone covered.

Outside of a couple of skits with Girl You Never Want to Meet at a Party (?) I haven't seen a full SNL in awhile. I think that everyone's Best SNL tends to be whatever they grew up with.

  7. I still don't like Powell and I don't see that changing. The character is unlikeable and sadly the actress is either unable or unwilling to have enough of "it" to overcome that presentation.

Bode can't be a firefighter with only one kidney, can he? Or does it not matter?

Possibly. I knew a firefighter who had CF. As long as he met the minimum requirements with the respirator he was good. I can't find NFPA 1582 (the medical standards most departments use) online, but I don't remember any time against it when I worked with firefighters (this was a few years ago).

  9. I can completely believe Gemma and Dave haven't taught Gorver to sweep. There's never been real evidence that the kid has been taught any chores at all. I like Gemma and Grover but man she babies that kid. He's 12, not 5. Sure you monitor internet usage but "no internet" is just not realistic. They really need to start showing him some basic life skills or he's going to be in a lot of trouble later on.

  10. I finally watched the episode (missed that it was on Sunday) and I thought it was an incredibly mature way to handle the situation especially for a cop show.  Scola is probably my favorite character on the show and I like Nina so hopefully this lets her stay around awhile.

  11. So for what it's worth I just started watching this season and (trying) to catch up on past seasons through paramount+ and I cannot stand Maggie. I don't know if she gets better but she reminds me way to much of Olivia Benson from SVU. I liked the blonde girl from the first episode this season, but I only saw her that one time so maybe that was a fluke.

That's Powell who has that tendency. Cabrera shares her faith with Deacon and is Latina like Christina Alonso was. I thought Cabrera had the rogue instincts but I confused her with Powell because the actresses look so similar.

Honestly it's only when I read this forum that I realize there's two of them.

I really liked everyone on this episode, except the aide, but seeing how Ava now has to deal with the fallout of her being and idiot maybe she's gone?? Please??

I liked Erika too. Janine needs a friend.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good eye cream? I need something thicker for overnight, specifically ultra moisturizing. I'm not worried about dark circle or eye bags, just something that will help with dry skin around the eyes.

I've used a few (I do the fab fit fun box so I use whatever I get in it) and the two I've liked a lot so far is Algenist Eye Renewal Balm and Verso Super Eye Serum.

Since when did Janine become an expert on nutrition?  Shouldn't the cafeteria workers have been consulted before giving the kids the juice?

Definitely. And there's absolutely no way a teacher would have the ability to change the order anyway. Most government contracts have to be processed through purchasing/procurement and typically bid out.

Yeah, Ashley is a big 'No' for me. She smiles too much. And yeah she's a bad aide.

I really like that one cafeteria worker.  He cracks me up every time. He makes what little screen time he gets really count.

As much as I know the show wants to kinda revere Barbara and play up Janine's naivete, I think in this instance it would have been nice for Barbara to be shown to be in the wrong regarding the juice.  I have known a lot of long timers who are cynical and hate change or like their dyed-in-the-wool systems.  And at times, I have been the Barbara.   I have worked where I have a long time and have seen so many high-ups at my school come in and want to make their stamp and they start changing things up and i roll my eyes because of course what they are suggesting isn't new, someone else has tried it and it didn't work and we go back to what we always did when they inevitably cycle out.

But sometimes, something new does come along and is a real improvement and can make things just a little bit better and easier.  The knee-jerk adverse reaction to anything new can be just as bad as the pie-eye optimism that Janine shows.

I agree. I do it myself, but yeah if you're so closed of too change just because the current thing works, you miss good opportunities and innovation. Also it would have been a nice change of pace for Jeanine to be down to have some good, useful ideas. Truthfully I don't think the juice was the problem, or eat the crappy bathrooms. (But perhaps of Ava was better or even have some basic competency at her job she extorted the bathroom situation might be a bit better.)

Gregory, Jacob, and Melissa still continue to be fantastic.

  18. Is Todd supposed to be completely unlikeable? He's not coming across to me as a quirky but charming good guy (or whatever he's supposed to be). He's more like an entitled and over indulged mamas boy who has to get bailed out constantly because he's just not very good at his job. If I was the other PI at that firm I'd be pissed too.

Homicide: As it aired, Homicide was iconic! It may not have been to your liking because it was one of the first plot-driven, headline prevalent cop shows, viewed by you past its prime. Brauher was perfection, Koto, too. The lesser-known Baldwin played a great troubled cop. Hoffmann, Leo, Secor (who knew the innocent rookie would go on to play both villains and heroes equally well?). The run was too short, (sadly, way too short) and included guests who pretty much filled out the more successful Law and Order cast. It was the first TV show I ever actually mourned.
Within a year after it was gone, I went to Baltimore for a family wedding. During down time, we explored the inner harbor, shops, local haunts. Walking around, we dropped in to a bar for munchies and a local brew and when we came out, I looked across the street and stopped dead in my tracks. There, in front of me was the building they used as the Homicide precinct! Took a lot of pictures of an abandoned building. But still, to this day I will watch anything anyone in that cast participates in (sadly, no matter how bad it turns out to be).

Homicide is possibly my favorite show of all time and I pretty much echo everything you have said.

I can't handle both Dottie and Ebu. I barely tolerate one awful person, we don't need a backup.

Have they mentioned Moreniki and/or where she is at? I don't recall seeing her this season.

I really didn't like the idea of bringing Christina back to MaxDot. The reasons she left (the disrespect and taking blatant credit for her ideas) are still valid, to bad the show cheaped out on the ridiculous "slept with an underling" nonsense.
