  1. If you've been trained in the design/studio culture, then yes, of course, if you have time, you help your colleague. First of all, all the designs are judged on their own merits. Your design needs to stand on its own. (On a show like Project Runway, if you have enough time and talent to help a competitor, it's highly unlikely you are the one who's going to be eliminated.) But also, everyone benefits if everyone does her/his best work: the critiques become much more valuable, both for the "top" and for the "bottom." Finally, helping a colleague meet a deadline is just plain fun. You're not ego invested and so you get to just make/play. There are lots of benefits to the person helping from doing that. (Studio artist and designer here, and former student of art/design, and teacher of art and design.)
  2. I hate this season. I hate Victoria. I (now)hate this show.
  3. Yes, but not the "birthplace of modern architecture." That house hunter was such a poseur. I may have to give up watching House Hunters International. The locations are lovely but the house hunters are infuriating.
  4. The Verona wife was so annoying. So ignorant and pretentious at once. She kept calling Verona the birthplace of modern architecture and then she called it the theatre city. And then I threw up. She styled herself as a designer but seemed to feel insecure with a (rightfully called) designer husband. I almost couldn't get past the shorts to enjoy the views of Sweden. Poor woman. What was she thinking?
  5. I teach design. She's an idiot. She can self-identify as a "designer" but that doesn't mean she has any skills.
  6. The Amsterdam woman's vocal fry made me want to climb the walls. But I do love the agent!
  7. After viewing the episode I detest them both. The guy is loathsome and she is pathetic to cater to him. But it was great to see Paris and Adrian!
  8. Re: Digging in Sheffield. Please, please, oh pagan gods, deliver me from young women and their oversize glasses. I shall sacrifice shade-grown coffee and free range tofu. Thank you.
  9. Meh. Martha Stewart didn't commit insider trading. What she did do was to lie to a federal investigator. I thought her sentence too harsh, but she served it with grace and creativity. I'm a fan.
  10. Nor at Tropicana Field (Tampa Rays). For me, those with intelligence and talent can do whatever the fuck they want with their hair.
  11. Fortunately, vocal fry is a learned characteristic. It's become an easy convention that can be adopted or dropped. It has nothing to do with equality, justice, power, authenticity or any attributes of feminism. "Young women, give up the vocal fry and reclaim your strong female voice" https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/jul/24/vocal-fry-strong-female-voice That said, if you wish to choose it, fry on.
  12. For me, one of the pleasures of watching Love It Or List It is imagining that all of the women (including the one on this episdode) who have this hideous vocal fry are sequestered on an island so that they cannot breed. Admittedly, I am old but I shall never understand how any woman can think that this vocal affectation is desireable.
  13. As soon as the wife said she couldn't write because there was wallpaper on the ceiling, I rolled my eyes and they never unrolled. If one can't write because of wallpaper on the ceiling one is, quite simply, a crap writer.
  14. Watching "Hometown Vegas." Sweet couple with two young children. I only wish the wife hadn't bought into the vocal fry craze. (I'm kind of a "Get off my soundtrack" kind of person when I hear that. 😀)
  15. Just saw the Las Vegas Mark and Dave episode. What a sweet episode! I love the Property Brothers because their designs are clean and elegant but even more so because they are so compassionate and good-natured. They empathize with their homeowners and truly want to help make their lives better.
  16. Of course Perry killed his brother! (Or so I have assumed ever since we learned his brother died.)
  17. They seem to be rolling in dough. Why doesn't she get speech therapy?
  18. As an artist/designer and lover of process, I agree completely. Seeing everyone's process, and Christian's mentorship, was enthralling.
  19. Diane von Fürstenberg is a genius. She's 72; I'm 71 and I remember clearly how revolutionary she was with her wrap dress in 1974. Imagine: a wrap dress that anyone could wear (when we were all encased in structured, skirted suits). I love her. As for Hester Sunshine, she is a genius also, at styling, but her clothes are mediocre, at best. And oh how I loved Sebastian's last look, the leather dress.
  20. Mine was a small scale print, on a black ground. It was an amazing dress and I wish I still had it.
  21. That show with Santino and Austin Scarlett had some of the best hours on TV ever! So sweet and funny and at the same time their designs were so skillful. I would LOVE to see Christian traveling around the country designing for real women.
  22. I'm glad Erin won. Her collection was my favorite by far. (I appreciate her exuberance and humor. And her collection was really smartly styled.) (I also don't care how she looks or sound although I thought her runway dress was adorable.) I also appreciated Laurence's elegance but her collection put me to sleep. I hated Robert's transparent skirts, and loathed Rik's collection. As for the season as a whole, I really enjoyed it, in part because there were interesting looks in every week's runway and because there was such diversity in the designers creating those looks. They were a hard-working and generally affable and likeable bunch. All in all, this season provided a lot of entertainment for me during a stressful fall.
