  1. @ItCouldBeWorse, you're right, that's how it worked on iZombie. That was such a great way to wrap up. Great sponsorship opportunity for Tide if they were interested.
  2. I wish I had not seen that Dracula. This is a way better vampire series. Yeah, it was in there. After the fact I remembered that the Underworld movies had a version of that - transmitting memories through blood. It may exist elsewhere too.
  3. The 2011 National Theatre presentation of Frankenstein that is mentioned up thread is available for free on YouTube at the moment. They have both the version with Johnny Lee Miller as the Creature/Benedict Cumberbatch as Frankenstein and the version with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Creature/Johnny Lee Miller as Frankenstein. ETA: It's part of a fundraiser for the National Theatre.
  4. Great screencaps! That does look like 19th century clothing on Colin. There is another photo, next to a gold rat statue, of all four vamps in front of the house and it looks like it is a similar age.
  5. I was suspicious that all the photos were from the 70s, but did not expect how awesomely nuts that was going to get! Whoever directed this did a fantastic job of building up to the climax in the attic. Amazing sequence. The final trifecta of Guillermo flipping off the vampires, diving backward out the window, and the camera crew having to run for it was great action and great laughs. Guillermo really stepped up and saved the amateurs. He's on the verge of being their mentor instead of their saboteur. I mean, he was a short John Wick with stakes. I have to think the hunter they lost is going to come back as a vamp. I really want to see that confrontation. I always forget that of all the vampires, Colin Robinson is the one who comes closest to living in a dungeon. My favorite joke about the curse was how excited (for him) he was about forwarding it to all his co-workers. If they put out a soundtrack for this show I might buy it. Whoever picks their music is so clever. ETA: This is a good point. I thought initially he must have read it because he opened that one letter for the first time about the enemy general asking for peace, but maybe it was in a different language that he does remember.
  6. Watched this today. It kept me guessing, and I appreciate a procedural that does that. I wonder if the concept for this series was inspired by a 90s movie called "The Interview" with Hugo Weaving.
  7. I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought it was Billie Piper at a glance. Maybe it was my subconscious projecting because David Tennat was in the first episode. I knew where it was heading but it was interesting.
  8. Fantastic season finale. Great quotes thoughout. "Salt and Pepper, you say?" "A firefighter touched our child/We washed him off/Yeah but I'll always know." I don't know when it was added, but Jake telling everyone to wash their hands was the most of-the-moment line I've seen in recent TV. I felt so represented by Rosa this episode: "I'm excited to meet your baby when it's clean and wearing clothes..." "I do not want to be around when page 53 happens." And I really laughed at how page 53 was censored. I immediately thought "Nakatomi." I assume Amy insisted on alphabetical.
  9. I'm with everyone who was creeped out by how Glenn was shopping his foster son. They could have played this so much better, like he was a looking for a temporary place until he turned 18 and went to college. But even then, when Sandra is not an approved foster parent and Glenn is, it didn't make sense. The Cheyenne and Mateo plotline didn't really wrap up so much as end. I didn't care for it that much. There was one nice touch - in the ad video for the party one of the stock photos still had a water mark in the middle of it like they pulled it off a website without buying it. If they need to bring a character into a more central role I vote for Sayid. Not as manager, but as a regular. Brett as Easter Bunny "Eggwin" made me laugh. Right now Jonah can claim that they are part of the proletariat, and not suits. They are the working class underdogs in his story who are covertly promoting unionization. I liked that they brought up how big a deal this would be for someone in Amy's position, and that Jonah should not be treating her as a sell-out for taking a position that will benefit her family. I've heard of this, especially for upper level posts.
  10. I was wondering if Guillermo woud meet a hunter this year, and he met a group! I didn't suspect anything until I saw Craig Robinson, and they started grilling Guillermo on his feelings about 'blood suckers.' Nice addition with Jenna's roommate, and Guillermo apologizing to her. When the vamps summoned the wild animals to run with/at the neighbor, I was expecting wolves, and got a laugh from the dog pack, especially the beagles. I was delighted! It's just something about how Matt Berry says it.
  11. I loved the first episode more on the strength of Haley Joel Osment and Benedict Wong. I could not stop laughing from the necromany on. I hope they find a way for both of them to come back later because this was too, too funny! I do love the Guillermo is embracing his vampire killer instincts against his master's enemies. He is my favorite. And he got Topher's mini-fridge! I am glad that they found a way for Jeff to recur again, but creepy dolls creep me out, and I'm not psyched about ghost Nadja's host. I missed these morons!
  12. It's from Lethal Weapon. Murtaugh, played by Danny Glover, has the oft quoted line "I'm to old for this $h!t." Riggs is Mel Gibson's character. Here's a clip with the quote (NSFW). The movie has funny bits, but there is a lot of drama and heavy material. It's also a bit...of its era. ETA: DearEvette beat me to it! Lol'd a lot at this one. It was great fun. Kevin staring intensely into Peralta's eyes cracked me up.
  13. For a limited time HBO Go is allowing people without an account to watch certain shows. "The Wire" is on the free list. I never saw this in its original run. I've made it through the first three seasons in the last two weeks. I heard it was impressively written, and it is. I cannot get over how good the casting is, and how much talent they have sharing scenes. Lance Reddick, Michael Kenneth Williams, and others were known to me from their other great work, but it took me about four episodes to recognize that little Michael B Jordan was playing Wallace. How interesting that he'll be in the upcoming adaptation of "Without Remorse."
  14. Man, RIP Brian Dennehy. I always think of F/X first, one of my first B movies, but I enjoyed him in so many things. I also remember that Patton Oswalt used to do an anecdote about meeting Brian Dennehy (NSFW language).
  15. This is a tiny complaint, but last heist didn't Kevin say he enjoyed it and would be back for the next one (with a disturbing grin)? I was look for him to pop up.
  16. Danny Trejo was on Brooklyn 99 - maybe they can share contact info with their new-network sister show.
  17. This was a fun! I'm ambivalent to reveal parties but they made the most of it. (I have to overlook them not noticing the cake was green before they put on the white frosting.) I couldn't believe they capped the green cake with Captain Peralta cutting off his other thumb. I did get a snicker out of Hitchcock and Scully's time share in Figi. I'd enjoy seeing Terry play in the band in the future.
  18. This was a lot of fun. I need to find a screencap of the rest of the customer safari white board items. I'm sure I've seen at least 50 points worth. I really like Dina and the vet. They are sweet and slightly dysfunctional, not unlike Jerry and Sandra, just in a different direction. ^This. She wasn't prepared, and was stressed because of it even though she clearly likes him. As far as who replaces Amy as a manager, I think most likely Glenn takes the role back. I think Dina is best as the enforcer. If Glenn stays floor supervisor, then it's hard to guess. I have two off the wall thoughts - Jeff or Marcus. Jeff isn't liked by corporate, and I could seem him being demoted and exiled. I don't know how well he would blend into the day-to-day operations of the store, though. They would have to have him get over Mateo fast. Marcus, in his brief try out to be Amy's assistant, was weirdly competent and had some office experience. I don't know how they would (or could) justify it being him, but I think there would be entertaining possibilities.
  19. I lol'd when they panned up to reveal JK Simmons coming out of the elevator. Genius guest casting yet again. And directed by Kyra Sedgwick is a fun bonus! I hope Simmons recurs. Part of me wishes they would do a locked room mystery as a follow-up. OH! They're on NBC now! They actually could! I noticed that, though I think it was not intentional. It would have been nice if they had thrown in a line about Dillman being an excellent craft store salesperson due to his detailed knowledge of glitter, but that being a detective meant more. I'm sure that this was written and recorded before current events. (Sorry to hear about your situation and best wishes.)
  20. Part of me wishes it was a clean wrap up without dangling threads because of the uncertainty. It was fine on the whole, but maybe not great. I echo those above who liked the scene with Sue Lynn and Dex drinking at the grave. It was a good, calm character moment. And my favorite part of that scene was the fact that Dex broke a Pottery Barn vase at Sue Lynn's house on her first visit and Sue Lynn lied and said it was a family heirloom. I was also glad Cosgrove was back. Usually I'm fine with the musical cues on this show, but I didn't like them recutting "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" to put choruses back to back.
  21. I thought it was the drug use.
  22. I suppose having Holt pull a Van Helsing at the open coffin would have been a bit much for prime time.
  23. Glen is not the most self aware person. While not mentioned, he and Jerusha were also foster parents to many children before having their own biological child. They probably feel their experience entitles them to comment. I did smile at the complete anti-climax of the baby obstacle course. I would kind of like it if Dina got to stay with the vet for a while - or if they gave up on her and Garrett entirely. Though I suppose this is her trial run at a 'real' relationship that paves the way for appreciating a future with Garrett.
  24. I missed Justified in its original run, and always hoped to go back and try it because of the good things I've heard. It came back to Hulu recently, so I decided to give it a try. On the whole I really enjoyed it. It's the sort of show you can obsess over. I liked all the recurring character arcs - their story continuity was exceptional. This holds up really well in a streaming era. I struggled with the first half of the first season. Raylan alone was not interesting enough to me. Bringing Boyd in to complete the other side of the picture was what made me keep going. I saw a piece of trivia on imdb.com that they originally intended to kill off Boyd in the first episode. I'm glad they changed the plan, because without the adversarial dynamic between the two of them I don't think this would have worked nearly as well. I didn't always like Raylan. Timothy Olyphant's performance grew on me with time, but the character was arrogant and often aimless. In the end Boyd was the most compelling character to me. Walton Goggins was really, really good at his different moods and personas. You could see when he switched gears mid-scene from one tactic and mannerism to another as the character recalculated. They did a great job of setting him up against characters who were more despicable than him, and having him trying to achieve his own American dream. I could still often root for him, in spite of what he was. My interest in Ava varied, and I didn't care for the prison story line at all. I see others above commented that Season 5 isn't well liked, and I felt the same. All the marshals - Art, Gutterson, Rachel - were fun characters. I sometimes wish the show had spent more time on them. The recurring character casting was amazing, and I think it's a major strength of this show. The Season 6 wrap-up was very good. I wasn't sure how they would find a way to bring things to a close, but they did as well as I think they could possibly have done. There is one aspect that I feel they glossed over - the lack of consequences for Raylan. I recognize that he's the hero, but he did a lot of shady things that never caught up with him.
  25. Forgot to comment the other day - there was a lot of licensed Pearl Jam in this. I wonder how much that costs.
