  1. The vale of tears may be getting to me. I look at an episode in my playlist and feel like it's going to be a struggle to get through another one, what with the inevitable sadness and grief. In my mind the show had more humor in the earlier seasons but perhaps I'm misremembering. I thought something more would be made of Sister Usurla's presence, but she was just kind of rigidly strict and then gone. What with all the dire outcomes on this show, it's plausible to assume the worst about Trixie being out of breath, so I hope it was just her being a little out of shape. (Although that's kind of hard to buy with her having an active job and the exercises being very mild.) I didn't mind the cousin who was adopting; she had her sorrows as well. Seriously. That was a huge cop-out for the show.
  2. The taped Maury bit was no Handsome Men's Club, but there were almost as many stars and Molly was a good sport. Jimmy, I promise I won't watch Matt Damon's new movie, The Great Wall. But only because I always wait for streaming. Too bad the world spoiled Jimmy's supposed exclusive unveiling of the new bachelorette. Say what you will about Chris Harrison, but the man wears some very well tailored suits.
  3. Maybe it's still coming or my eyes have gritted over, but I didn't see the promised darkness or subversiveness. It's a teen soap with all the expected archetypes. There are crushes, secrets, and a dead guy but daytime serials have explored that territory for 50+ years. I thought it was well enough done but turns out I have no interest. The actors aren't egregiously old to be playing sophomores but they seem so to me. Cheryl Blossom did make me grit my teeth in impatience, if that counts.
  4. I don't have any feelings or nostalgia about the comics one way or the other but am in, at least initially, for the whiff of a Twin Peaks-ian mystery vibe, and because of my lasting fondness for the Everwood and Jack and Bobby era Berlanti.
  5. I mean, the runners have $17.85 per day to feed, transport and house two people. Even Motel 8 charges around $40-50 a night. As others have said, the deck is heavily stacked in favor of the hunters.
  6. Seems like a single-season concept, doesn't it? Contestants will now know which actions work/don't work. Why the need for burner phones, especially for the hole-up-in-the-woods option? Is it for Internet access? This reminded me of the series "I Almost Got Away With It" about criminals who really are on the run. They often bug out one step ahead of the law with only a backpack or sometimes nothing. Some of them aren't caught for years or decades, but yeah. The majority for sure leave the area. Geographic restrictions are a huge impediment for the runners on this show.
  7. Please forgive a latecomer as I've been watching the past couple of weeks for the first time. I'm just starting season five but there are a few Things I Need to Get off my Chest: Can't stand Iris. Why Reese would have the slightest interest in that zero personality milquetoast with no professional ethics is beyond me. I hope he ditches her soon. If every bad guy who sees Reese nicknames him the man in the suit, he needs to quit wearing the damned suit. I've never had this thought before about a TV show, but there are too many badass women -- assassins, enemy agents, government agents, random hacker killers for hire, soccer mom spies, crime lord underbosses, etc. All super good looking. It's Mary Sue overload. Caveziel playing Reese with lockjaw. Certainly there must be other ways to convey emotional repression and stoicism while still moving his mouth. At least the writers had one character ask why he talked like that. Overall I'm really enjoying the show. I watched an episode or two when it originally aired but it didn't hold my interest. Binging gave it a big boost. If there's a dividing line here, I'm on the side of those who think the later seasons were the best. :) Was sorry to lose Carter but came to love Shaw. Tolerated Root. Fusco, Reese and Finch for the win.
  8. Naw, naw, naw. Love Tim and am okay with Drew, but I couldn't make it through one episode of iZombie and my stomach isn't up for this, either.
  9. Right? I was looking up photos of her after watching the episode and it seems like she was an early Streisand, only posing in profile or 3/4 view. Your majesty, that is NOT a good look with the no-chin thing you have going on.
  10. Not anything on 20/20, I don't think. But Marty went from being a very public critic of Scientology to now turning on Rinder, Tony Ortega, Chris Shelton, etc., calling them names and protesting what he calls ASC, the Anti-Scientology Cult. He stopped criticizing Miscavige entirely on his blog and of course his wife dropped her lawsuit, even though it had made pretty good progress in the courts.
  11. Great summation, @stillshimpy. Unlike Michelle (and the majority of Democrats, apparently), I always thought Biden was creepy with the ogling and handsiness. I imagine him smelling of hair grease and mothballs. Bad touch!
  12. Is it general discussion for shows that don't have their own forums? Not being sarcastic, just new around here.
  13. I think the producers/Leah have done a terrific job focusing on the abuses but still providing enough context about the basic belief systems so that viewers can understand how Scientologists are indoctrinated and why family members readily comply with disconnection and fair game policies.
  14. I don't remember if this a spoiler for episode 1, but tagged it anyway.
  15. I'll join your ramble to say it can also go the other way, with men being shamed for sleeping around, but women who have a lot of boyfriends being "unlucky in love." John Mayer or Adam Levine vs Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jennifer Aniston, for example. Are gender-specific terms like womanizer and slut equally "shameful"? Is "promiscuous" okay to say, even though it also connotes disapproval? Maybe it's best if I stop gossiping about people's sex lives altogether. :) (And hi! Finally registered after lurking for ages.)
  16. I'm not sure why Theo thinks Aaron is a piece of shit when he's the one trying to save Elena. If Theo supports that end game, he's got no business spitting on Aaron for the way he goes about it. Does wanker Theo think he's capable of doing it by himself? I was glad to finally get the backstory of how Aaron conned his way out of the Red Zone. I just noticed that the series is rated TV14 DLSV. I'm old and don't have kids but not sure I'd let an 8th grader watch.
  17. Aside from Letty wanting to get Sean out of the way, shouldn't Javier be getting another job offer soon? I'm interested in the nuts and bolts of how he runs his business -- how much he charges, how often he gets jobs, how clients get a hold of him, if he ever leaves the South, etc. We know he's fairly efficient at killing but crap at covering his tracks.
