  1. When I go down for breakfast, I'm usually just in my underwear and socks. Sometimes I have to take things like meds, the odd paper, a credit card, etc. down with me, so I put them in my bra. I cannot tell you how many times I 've gotten to work and wondered why my bra was so scratchy or what happened to the meds I meant to bring... Oh - there's stuff in my bra! Sometimes I go the whole day and when I take off my bra in the evening, stuff falls out. As long as stuff doesn't fall out at work, I think I'm OK. Maybe. Kinda sounds like old lady stuff, "Ma, did you put your insulin in your bra again?" I may be in trouble...
  2. And wasn't he wearing those slipper socks with rubber non-slip treads at one weigh-in? Who walks around public in slipper socks who's not in the hospital?
  3. "It's a party today." Oh, Dr. Now, you jokester, you!
  4. And such a face on that one! Everything seems to be too much trouble. Just go home and eat.
  5. Holy Mary, Mother of .... What the heck is Dr Lola wearing? I haven't seen sleeves like that since I was a kid in crinolines.
  6. Yeah. I wondered if it was a skin condition, but I'm gonna agree, maybe they just need to wash more. She wants red beans and rice. So do I, sweetie, trust me, red beans and rice sounds perfect, but I gotta do this low carb thing so I don't lose my toes and my vision. If you want to go on stage, you can do it, too.
  7. I was watching the previous episode while actually looking at the TV. These people are huge. To see them just sitting in Dr. Now's office, they looked mountainous. And once again, I have to ask myself - why didn't they stop when they were 3-400 lbs? WT flying F?? What is this screaming and moaning? Over what? Talk about your arrested development!
  8. Soy chorizo, peppers, onion, beans with a low carb wrap.
  9. Yeah, it's homeowner. I'll be the first to admit that years ago, probably on Television Without Pity, I saw HO and wondered why posters were calling everybody on the show a HO - in capital letters. : )
  10. I remember what I wanted to mention! Did you notice how they moved the mattresses into the truck? They make mattress boxes and thick mattress plastic bags for moving. Those trucks are filthy. I can't imagine putting my mattress in one without it being covered up. Even wrapping it in an old sheet would be better. Yuck.
  11. I only caught this at the foul-mouthed end. Did the HO want a stripper pole? I love Clinton, but I think you'd really have to know your client to put a stripper pole in the rec room. Is this where family is going to hang out? How do you explain the pole to the grand kids? I sure wouldn't want to have a pole in my basement (bedroom, living room, whatev). And Hildy's one claim to Prince fame is the toy car? WTH? While I'd be more than happy in a purple space, I can understand why a designer would back away from that a bit, but I didn't see any Prince in that room. What were the stripes about ? I've seen Prince in person. I don't remember any stripes...
  12. Yeah, I looked up the ingredients and did a Snopes check. No pancake mix. No tiny Styrofoam balls, either.
  13. I never heard of Orange Julius until I went to Ann Arbor. Everybody out there loved it. I never developed a taste for it. That and Vernor's.
  14. Michael Hebranko. Yes. I remember him from Brookhaven as well. No matter what he did to change, he couldn't seem to stick with it. Being lactose intolerant, my milkshake days are over, but I make them at home with soy or almond milk, frozen fruit or - get this - sugar free jello mix. Orange mix in 'milk' tastes just like an orangesicle. It's fantastic - and a lot fewer calories than anything from a fast food restaurant.
  15. HMR meals Jennie Craig Nutrisystem Optifast I'm sure there are more. If they were really serious, they'd ask the store's nutritionist to help with selecting vegetables /salad ingredients to go along with the prepared foods. But that would take a little effort on the part of the obesee and for the most part, these folks don't like making any effort at all. I keep thinking what it would be like to have someone bring me everything I needed. I can't even imagine. Oh wait...amazon...
  16. I'm reading stuff over on reddit and was reminded about Brandie in the grocery store saying something along the lines of this would be hard to do every week. W T H?? People go out to work, volunteer, take care of the kids, coach, do shopping, cooking, and laundry - sometimes in the same day. That's why most of us aren't 600 lbs. If you got your fat hips up and took care of yourself a bit more, or maybe helped Clarence deal with your father, maybe you wouldn't have gotten so big. I don't mind her not knowing about the asparagus. I'm vegetarian and see stuff I don't know how to cook. If she wanted to stick with food they knew while getting used to the program, I'm OK with that.
  17. Thanks for the info. It looks like the nearest to me is Novi, MI. Being familiar with the area, Novi is not where I'd like to spend my vacation money/time. : ) That said, what is their claim to fame - do they try to get people off meds or are they sticking by the ADA play book? You can message me if this is going to far afield.
  18. Yup and double yup. She doesn't want to change what / how she eats so she thinks she can work it all off in the gym. Most of Dr Now's patients lose 50-100 lbs before surgery w/o doing any exercise, because many of them just can't (joint problems, etc.) They still lose weight because of the diet. I don't like her, but I do think she is occasionally attractive in her THs. Occasionally being the operative word.
  19. I wanted to attend a 3 day seminar on how to eat with diabetes and other diseases. Some blood work would be taken and there would be medication review and revision. This was done by doctors and nurses, not some diet guru. My insurance wouldn't pay for it. They would (and continue) pay for my meds to the tune of 14K a year and if I'd wound up in the hospital needing an amputation, etc. This doctor has been doing these seminars multiple times a year for maybe 20 years, but no payment from my insurance. While many diseases react favorably to changes in diet, diabetes has to be one of the few where you can reverse the course of the disease, get off of meds, improve Syndrome X, etc., by how you eat, but no... Joslin also offers this type of seminar, but they aren't covered, either.
  20. Federal grants! 1 million for 5 subjects for 6 months. 20 grad students, and some new equipment for the investigator. There's an obesity problem in the country - I'm pretty sure we can get NIH to fund this, especially if subjects are poor blacks and rural whites.
  21. Back in the 1970's, I had a weekend job as a ward clerk in the clinical research unit at UM's hospital. This where they were starting kidney transplants on twins, sickle cell treatment research, and while I was there, some obesity research. The obese people (I don't recall seeing any of them) were in the hospital for awhile, first eating their usual foods so researchers could see where they started from, then going to the eating plan (which I don't recall ever learning about). After a bit, they were moved into apartments close to the hospital for something similar to what you describe. It's been many years, but I remember the nurses saying that it really didn't make much difference. Nobody stuck to the plan once they were on their own. It was the first time I ever heard of someone being too big to drive or to pick up their small children. I was also told not to respond to the call button from them - that they were so big that when they sat on the toilet, their hips touched the wall and would set off the call button. Jeez. I can't remember my name sometimes, but I remember that.
  22. They looked like public housing to me that is typical in smaller towns. No one builds 10 story, Cabrini-Green style buildings anymore.
  23. We have a small Chinese food section in our grocery store where they make take out. For the first time in almost a year, I got some food there the other week. Calorie counts are right there on the menu board. They are also around the other little take out sections. If our regional grocery can do it, I'm pretty sure McDonalds, Wendy's, and everybody has has calorie counts available. If not, I know they are available online and every one of these folks seems to have a smart phone and/or a computer. No excuse.
