I wonder why he couldn't remove the other one? Was it age only? I know 2 people who had their breasts removed due to cancer in the family. They didn't have cancer themselves, but apparently some people have this done when breast cancer has a strong family history. You'd think they could do it for an older person, unless she had other health issues that made the operation problematic.

I watched Renee's repeat tonight. I found myself getting misty-eyed as well; surprisingly. When she was in the bookstore (a treat to see in itself) and said she never thought she'd be in a public building again, you just want to cry. How on earth does life get away from these people so much that they wind up 600 lbs, often bed-ridden, and just on the fringes of being human? I hope she is doing well and that we get to see an update. She needs breast reduction STAT, though. There was a scene where she got up and those boobs swung out, it was almost scary. I've had breast reduction and I was no where near her size. I guess no one would operate at her weight, but I hope Dr Now can do it as part of her skin removal. At that size, it's not cosmetic, it's medical. Mine was medical as well, and covered by insurance.

I don't know where to put this, so I'm going to put it here. It's something I've been thinking about for awhile. I write a regular column for a journal aimed at managers in my field. One of my recent articles was about seniors and stereotype threat. I did a lot of background reading on biases against the elderly and learned that it was one of the earliest prejudices we develop - starting in children - and we often say really offensive things about older people that we wouldn't say about minorities or the disabled. Anyway, I notice that here, and very much so on Reddit, people refer to Dr. Now as 'cute.' I have to ask, "How is he cute?" Because he's older? Because his age makes him non-threatening? Cute, when applied to an older person, seems to diminish them in some way. It doesn't seem respectful. In getting background for the article, I learned that I am 'young-old.' Groovy. Now that I know that about myself, it's possible I'm a little sensitive about the age thing. : ) Y'all feel free to tell me so. I just wonder why we refer to an older person as 'cute.' Dr. Now is a caring humanitarian. He has skills and talents that few possess. He has saved many lives. He is the occasional badass - I'm just not sure that he is cute.

Take care of herself, how? She lives with her parents. She doesn't work. She's a waste of space. -

She lost a finger or she had an injury that required stitches (which might be the same thing, but you'd think she'd say she lost a finger the first time. -

Is she on assistance? A lot of municipalities have contracts with motels/hotels to house those on assistance or homeless women with children. -

My split pea soup story: I was down to my last bit of money in a train station in Amsterdam. I was starving, but all I could afford was the split pea soup - which I didn't even like at the time. Well, good lord, they brought back this soup plate with potatoes, carrots, ham...you could stand the spoon up in it. With that and the roll that came with it, I was stuffed. I will never speak badly about split pea soup. It is life's elixir. -

Good evening. How's everyone's eating habit? My stomach has been weird the past 2 days; I'm afraid to eat. Dr. Now would say that's a good thing. -
My 41 yr old son doesn't want to do lawn work (we both live in the same townhouse community) so I get it's not a male/female thing. It just drives me nuts when they look at a big yard and say, "How am I going to do this?" If you don't want to do it, no problem, hire someone. If you like mowing and weeding, but the yard is too big for you, that's fine, too. It's just like they always make them say this stuff without thinking through it. When I rented the house with the lawn and hired someone, I was happy to have someone do it. When I bought my place, I knew I didn't want to deal with a lawn and that, being a homeowner, I'd probably want to spend my money on other stuff, so I picked a place where the condo association takes care of most of it and I only have a teeny bit of lawn area with plants in front of my place. I didn't cry about it, I just knew what I wanted and looked at for that kind of housing without wasting my and my agent's time.

I forgot about the high ceilings thing. I understand the husband's point about heat/cooling, but gee, dude. Really? He didn't seem like a bad guy, but he was awfully close to being a Hank Hill - and not in a good way. eta - single Iowa girl. When I first came to Iowa, I rented a house with a big yard. I called a yard service company. They did the grass in the summer and the snow in the winter. Problem solved. It seems to me if you can buy a house, you can get a yard guy.

Watching the repeat because all my good Sunday shows are gone. Maybe this has been raised elsewhere, but it strikes me that when they say, "No doctor will help me," what they really mean is the doctor said they have to lose some weight before the surgery and they don't want to do that. I guess it's that magic pill thinking - just let me get the surgery and it will all be fine. I won't need to diet.

Binge watching now. I currently live in Iowa and enjoyed the Des Moines episode; the HO's voice grated, though. I'm 'not from arrund here' and can sometimes find that Midwestern whatever accent annoying. The couple in Kansas didn't bug as much as I thought. I'm not sure I see a big difference between 10 and 20 acres, but OK. I wouldn't want to live with a lot of projects (which is why I bought move-in ready), but he's an engineer and if he actually does them in a timely manner, OK. I liked that he wanted to teach his boys how to do stuff. I'm watching the woman in the DC area now. I haven't seen pearls like that on a young woman since Barbara Bush was first lady. I'm from DC and have relatives there. Every now and then, to amuse myself, I look at housing costs there and remember why I decided to stay in Iowa. Oh goodness - she's looking in Herndon? Does she work in Northern Virginia? That's a hike into DC.

'Night, all. I already made my lunch so I'm going to see wassup at reddit before heading to bed.

God bless you, Diana!

I am sure you will be OK. I know 3 people who have had hip replacements and they have done fantastic. It is making a big difference for them.

"I'm just doing what you asked me to do." Few of these other folks (Jame K. I'm looking at you) seem to get that.

I'm giving up Halo Top for 2 weeks. Not thrilled about that either.

Ya know -- yes it takes some planning for Diane to prep her food and bring a blender, etc. but it's not terribly hard. Why do so few of Dr Now's patients actually make an effort after the surgery? I bet she's not eating chili 3x day, either. She learned what she can eat and she eats it. And when she leaves the house, she doesn't run to fast food, but thinks ahead and works her plan. I can't fault her at all.

No lie. I worked at a law firm where 3 lawyers died one summer. They just hired new ones. I worked at another place where a really sweet woman complained about a headache, but said she still had some work to do, and pushed thru to complete it. She died later that evening from an aneurysm. You know what the organization did? They hired a replacement. None of this stuff is worth it.

Swing that suitcase, Diana! My girl!

Uh oh - famous last words, "I'll figure out what works for me on my own." Don't do it.

Thank goodness he mentioned knee replacement. I love Dr Now, but sometimes I think he downplays the joint pain people have. Yes, weight loss will help, but as he said, so many years of being overweight has damaged the joint. Sometimes replacement is the answer. I hope he mentioned a cortisone (or steroid or are they the same?) shot off camera. My mother gets those and it makes a big difference.
